Just make sure you talk to Liara and Ashley a lot (i.e. in the ship after every mission (not assignment and they generally don't say anything new in between side quests for the most part) otherwise they may not develop an interest in you.
.
OK, so I got Liara, and used her in the mission about her mother. And yet I can't fucking find her on the ship to talk to her. Where the hell does she hang out??? (Note I haven't looked since right after I got her so maybe she wasn't there at first and is sitting somewhere obvious now - but just the same I might as well ask since I wasted 15-20 minutes running around the ship looking for her ;)).

She's in the medical bay.

Go down the stairs to where the elevator is (the one to go down the hangar where Ashley, Wrex and Garrus are), go down the hall to the right of the elevator when your facing it.

Go in the door straight ahead, walk through that room past the Dr. and through the door in the back. Liara is in that room sitting at the desk.
I think what did it was "Ahhhhhh!!! They're raping us!!! They're raping us and it hurts!!"
That quote is actually from the Imaginationland Part II episode of South Park, just incase you didn't know.

D'oh! Is there a room PAST the medical bay? I definitely looked in the bay itself but not past that - forgot there was a room there. Of course the was the only place I didn't look I guess... I'll head down there fitst thing after I clear out those Rachni (still mopping up there) to get me some blue alien action in classic Kirkian fashion ;).
That quote is actually from the Imaginationland Part II episode of South Park, just incase you didn't know.
No, I didnt know that and did not see the episode. I like SP but am not a huge fan where I make sure to watch it. It was just so funny as applied to Mass Effect because it really is not far off from how that news report made it sound. Ridiculous.

Anyway on topic:

I am level 23 biotic now, in my second playthrough, and am pretty sure I got every ach for the biotics. I'll also easily get the Garrus adn Wrex achs b/c I've been using them and really enjoying the dialogue and playing renegade. I am about finished with Feros and already did Art. Tau. A few questions:

Why the fuck is Garrus such a pussy? I have his electronics skill leveled all the way up to where I can unlock hard things (which also adds to his shields) and still he drops like a fly. I guess he is getting killed quick by things that pierce his sheilds b/c his health isnt that high?

Q: How did you level up Garrus when you played with him?

Wrex on the other hand seems an unstoppable beast.

I didn't see her early on either, except for the fact that she appears as a blue dot on your radar past the doctor.

Question: I beat the game at level 50 using an engineer. I got the Power gamer achievement. This guide: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox360/file/930279/50960 says:

"Reach level 50. Start a second play-thru with the same character to continue
leveling him/her to 50.

UNLOCKS: All experience rewards improve by 10%."

Do I only get this 10% exp boost if I use the same character or does it apply to my new biotic Sheppard? What about 5% for completionist?

It's for every character using your Xbox Live account when playing. Although I heard from a friend a ways back that achievements gained on a 360 will effect other accounts on the 360 with their passive bonuses and bonus talents selectable at character creation.

I've spent so many hours playing this game only to be let down.

I've finally made it to the conduit and did not make my way before the 20 sec timer runs out. Now i'm stuck , every time it tells me to take the road that leads to the conduit but the damn door won't open anymore.

Wow thats wierd, be specific, what door are you talking about? I'm sure you're not stuck but just missing something. Either that or you ran into a glitch or something. Its a shame really because you're soooo close.
That's why you need 3 or 4 saves you save in order each time you save.
uhhhh....what?
I don't get what your saying. There's no door in that section. All you have to do is rush through the Geth Armatures (hope not to die) and drive into the light at the top of the hill.

That will teleport you through the conduit and back to the Citadel.
uhhhh....what?
He means use three or four different save slots, and save in a different one each time on a rotating basis. That way you have a back up if you hit a glitch, or do something stupid and save etc.

Oh I see, I have a few different save slots and just make a new one every 10th save or so. I wonder if this is an effective way of saving.

I usually have 3, and just always save over the oldest of the three each time. Allows me to get out of glitches etc., and doesn't clutter up the Hard Drive with too many save files.

The last door that leads the Mako down the long stretch of road before the conduit. Not only is this door locked also all other elevators are locked. I'm 100% sure it's a glitch and how could Microsoft pass something like this. Are tester and producers slacking off?

Nah dude, at that door, get out of the mako and look to the right. There is an opening there where you can go down and talk with some terminal that will open up that huge cargo bay door.

Yeah, pittpizza's right. You just have to get out and find the terminal to open the last gate.

I thought you meant on the last rush to the conduit, and there's no door in that last stretch. Just a bunch of Geth Armatures to get through without dying.

We're such Mass Effect nerds. I seriously think I know just about (but not) everything there is to know about this game. It's a good thing I figured it out early becasue I may go for 100% acheivment points, so mapping out a strategy for 4 playthroughs (minimum) to get them all is a good idea.

It's tough too because there are alot of nuanced things that are difficult to figure out, an example is whether the 10% and 5% exp boosts for completionist and power gamer achs are cumulative.

Thanks i'll try it out...i totally forgot about the terminal...as I thought It would be on the other side of the cargo door much ways down the road.

Well I'm proud of myself... I finished the game last night. About 42 hours I think and I ended my first play through at level 49. I wasn't power gaming but taking my time and enjoying the ride... I did all but I think maybe four side quests, got competionist and tactician, and the rifle, sniper, shotgun achievements but no ally achievements . Played most of the game with Ashley and the Quarian. Ahh let's see what else... paramour and Charismatic (from Wrex's mission). At some point I must have made a choice between Ashley and the blue chick, cause I ended up with the blue chick.

So I started two more playthroughs... the first one is continuation of the first, which is just freaky.. starting the game on level 49 with all that equipment INCLUDING duplicates of John's equipment, which I thought was weird... so now I have two copies of each of the Spectre equipment. I also enjoyed leveling Jenkins to level 49 only to get blasted by Geth bots !lol!... I played that game for about 15 minutes and got the level 50 achievement and the pistol one, which I likely was only about 15 kills away.

The second of the playthroughs I created a redheaded female Shepard which I made an adept with a talent in assault rifle. I'm working towards the throw/lift etc achievements.
Question: does the game allow you to program more than the a tap of the RB button for biotic powers and the like?

Man I think this is my favorite game in a long time... I've played Wing commander Privateer 1 and 2, as well as MS's Freelancer... so I was well prepared to for this game, and it delivered. I hope MS makes a Mass Effect 2 and allows us to continue a player of our choice... think how awesome that would be... well unless they plan on making enough changes that it would be worthwhile to play as Ashley and John's lovechild, or some other generalization of the next generation.

Yeah, this is my favorite game since SotC probably. I usually don't like RPGs, but I love this one. I wonder what the DLC will include though...and I hope its not too expensive.

Huh...it says you over-rode the security, yet the door isn't opened? I'm thinking it may be a glitch.

Damn Poopmouth, I didn't think thats where you were talking about.

Perhaps it is a glitch. I remember some part close to there I got kind of lost but found a hallway to go through. Are you sure you're on the right level (elevation wise)? Maybe you took a wrong turn and you're actually above or below where you're supposed to be.

IIRC though, that is the part you're supposed to return to the mako right? Are you super sure you did eveyrthing you were supposed to do in the previous area?

Well, I just got the shotgun achievement (after getting the pistol one). I really wish I could switch to the other 2 types but with my character I can't. What character type allows for assault rifles and sniper? When you restart with your level and gear intact does that have to be the same character you made with the same class and everything? If so, that seems kind of pointless. I guess you could go after the different ally achievements and the level 60 one that way, but if I play again I want to do it in a different style.

I don't even remember what it is I picked, but I'm a male with the pistol/shotgun combo and the biotic throw/lift/warp abilities. I've already racked up the Paragon points achievement and I haven't even gotten to Vermire yet (saving the 16 colonists on Feros helped big time there). I want my second playthrough to be as a female soldier/tank type doing all the renegade stuff .

I also think it's pretty wierd to watch the cinematic that comes up when you start the game as that Shepard looks nothing like the one I made. I tried to make him look like me but it isn't all that close (at least as far as my kids are concerned). But I watched the cinematic last night and it seems like the voice is all wrong for the "standard" Shepard and he looks like a jerk to me too ;).

Soldier class has all weapons availible, but no tech or biotic powers. When you restart you are starting with your same character, thus same class.

Unfortunately, on a second playthrough if you want to keep your exp pts, weapons, skill pts, etc.. you have to play as the same character.

There are bonuses that you get no matter what on subsequent playthruoghs though (e.g. exp points boost for power gamer or +10% shields for tactician).

If it makes you feel any better io, my character didn't look like me either. On a second playthrough (renegade is so fun after being nice for so long), I used a biotic sheppard who looked like the default guy (kind of mean and renegade I think too).

Hmmm... I'm going to want do do all the hacking/damping/etc things along with assault/sniper. Is there a class that can combine those abilities?

I guess I could do one more playthrough with my current char and get the ally achievements and level 60 one and maybe the harder difficulty. Then so it again with the different class. I'm definitely going to get near 40 hours on my first playthrough though and wouldn't do it again if it took that long - but it definitely won't take me quite as long if I power through it and skip most of the sidequests.

Just curious (Advocatus or anyone else) - how do you get the Charismatic achievement on the Wrex mission? I didn't even have a grayed out option for doing anything like that, and I had my Charm ability maxed out (for the level I was at - still had some unlocked bits at the time, which I now have all filled up). Spoiler tag it of course please.

Just finished my first playthrough...right around 18 hours. Got paragon, paramour, tactician, and a few other nice achievements. Didn't get sniper or assault rifle, though, since I only started using the AR once I finally got one that was kinda accurate. I think I got close, though. I mowed through the last couple areas of the game like a buzzsaw with the master spectre AR fitted with tungsten rounds.

Seriously, though. That was the best story I've ever seen and definitely one of my favorite games of all time. Top notch.

Io it seems to me you're thinking about getting all the achievments. If you want to do this you basically have to two it in at least three full playthroughs. YOu need to beat the game with every squad mate, so thats 3 playthroughs, and you also need to get 150kills with every weapon (need a soldier playthrough) use all the biotics (need a biotic playthrough) and use all the tech spells (need a engineer playthrough).

Plus to get to level 60 you need two full playthroughs.

When people say they get the charismatic ach on the Wrex mission
they're actually talking about when you can talk down wrex from going nuts, its either on Illos or Vermire, but very close to the end of the game.

You don't necessarily have to do a solider playthrough. I'm using an assault rifle (untrained) as a Infiltrator, you can do it that way as well.

Ah, thanks - I thought he meant on the Wrex sidequest where he goes after his armor. So far that's the only Wrex mission I've done. I do have Wrex on my team along with Tali. Hopefully those 2 achs will unlock soon. I only switched out Wrex twice - on the Liara (getting her mother) and Garus (sidequest) ones. The Liara thing might have hosed me I suppose but I listened to Tali who suggested I take Liara with us on that part of the game and I figured story-wise it would be more interesting (turned out to be mostly wrong as there wasn't that much interaction between the two).

So did I hose myself by playing the hybrid class (and getting SOME weapons and SOME biotic done)? Oh well - I may not go for every achievement anyway, I just want to maximize what I'd get on a second playthrough. So I may play again with the same char to get level 60 and the hard difficulty one (and 2 more allies) and perhaps a 3rd in a different style to pick up the Engineer ones. It's not too important to me to get 1000 if it is too time consuming and repetitive. I can always save another playthrough for a year or two from now as well so it is more fresh.

Lordwow - wait, do you mean you can equip the other weapons even if it says "untrained"? I never even tried but I will in a minute. I'm bored with the shotgun and pistol now anyway and want to do something different.

Okay here is the thing...it's complicated but I'll try to explain it clearly, this will address lordwow's points as well.

It is POSSIBLE to get SOME of the random "use X 75 times" using hybrid classes like infiltrator or vanguard. But because there are so many unique abilitiles, (6 under biotic: warp, stasis, lift, throw, singularity, barrier) the ONLY way to be SURE to be able to get all of them is to plan 3 pure class (adept, engin., soldier), and if you're plannin on getting the ally achs, know you need 45 assingmens and 15 story missions (and will therefore get "completionist" ); also plan on who to use on each playthrough. Mine for example will look like:

First: Engineer, Normal difficulty, Asari and Soldier Ally achs, all tech achs, completionist, tactician, geth hunter, ...

Second: Biotic, Hardcore difficulty, Agent and Krogan Ally achs, all biotic achs, power gamer...

Third: Soldier, Insane difficulty, Tali and Kaiden Ally achs, all weapon achs (if this is even posible)

Im around level 40 on my second playthrough. Eventually, I will have to take one of those characters through almost an entire additional playthrough to level them up to 60. It really is too bad you can't use the same character and change their class for a playthrough (and perhaps just rearrange or re-allocate thier skill pts. )

Yes, my Infilitrator is trained in Sniper Rifles and Pistols, and after I got the achievements for those I started using an untrained assault rifle. It is nowhere near as powerful or accurate as your trained weapons, obviously, but you can still use them and rack up kills.

I hate threads like these, because by the time I play the game nearly everyone else is so far ahead.

Two questions:
1) I have yet to figure out the door unlock mini-game. No matter what I do, it doesn't work.
2) How can I tell if I completed something? I mean by that, apparently there is a cheesemint that has to do with talking to Nihlus on the ship. I'm already past that part, but I don't remember if I asked him what I needed to.

I assume you're talking about the Get All Alien Races in your Codex or something that lines. If so, you need to talk to him about Protheans during the convo between you, him, and Anderson. Check your codex; if you have an entry for "Prothean" under "Extinct Races", you did it.

I'm on the planet Norveria, and I'm at the part where you
kill all the guys in that one SI room or whatever its called
. It keeps telling me Decryption: Skill too low for any of the lockers and other containers. What gives? I don't see any place I can upgrade my skill.. how do you do it? Back to COD4 until I figure this damn thing out. (I'm only level 8.. not too far into the game as Noveria was the first planet i went to)

You just need a character with a high decryption skill. At level 8 even Tali might not be able to handle an average or hardened decryption...she simply isn't leveled enough. I went to Artemis Tau first, then Noveria, and I was able to open everything.

First, what class are you? Some classes don't get a decryption skill which means you'll need to rely on your team mates ability in that area. Tali, Kaiden, and Garrus get decryption.

Oh, that could be it. I'm a soldier I believe.. don't remember. Don't have any of them in my party either.. oh well.

I've played for about a dozen hours now and the only quest thing that I've done so far was get the scientist lady. I've just been floating around the cosmos and visiting planets. It's actually quite enjoyable to "not" play the game and just randomly do whatever.

Dammit, despite my very thorough playing style where I talk to everyone and do everything I can find, apparently I missed this one. WTF!? When you choose a second playthough with the same character do you keep your Codex entries? If so I can just start up again later and snag this one pretty easily.
