Mass Effect - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pinnacle Station DLC Now Available 400pts

asked once already but didnt see an answere. Does this game load up the details one at a time for anyone else? For me it loads the colors then the lines then the rest of it. Takes about 5 to 20 seconds.

It is an Unreal 3 engine issue I believe. A majority of the time I do see the textures load bit by bit but it is considerably faster than 5 to 20 seconds. Usually more like 1 to 5 seconds at the very worst.

I'm a little disapointed I can't just kill people for no reason NEARLY as often as in KOTOR1/2 (which, IMO, is the obvious comparison to make). Why can't I shotgun orphans???

is the game really on the unreal engine? if so I woul of thought the unreal logo would've popped up when you turn it on. if so, it sure as hell dosn't look like what the engine does. The engine has some dead giveaways.

Mass Effect is Unreal 3 engine.

You are absolutely ridiculous.

With it using the Unreal engine it is odd that the logo forit is not in the game nore on the box. Anyway might just be my 360 but it is well more then 1-5 seconds for the textures to load. The longest has been 20 the shortest 5.

Got my level 60 achivement. I'm going to go take a breather from this and play GUN which I got in the mail from the BB BF sale.

The achivements for 150 kills or using the med kits do they stack up from game to game or do you have to do it in one play through. Also when you beat the game do you start over in the next game or are you at the level you beat the game at.

well, to be blunt, the fact that the game dosn't have any looks of all other unreal games is the most impressive thing I've seen in a while.

It is all independant of which characters you are using or which game you are playing through or whether or not you die. The counter that counts achievements for most games (including this one) immediately increments everytime you do something. This is why if you wanted you could constantly reload the same fight over and over until you got a particular achievement (ie: load a fight with 5 geth over and over until you get the 250 synthetic kills achievement).

They carry over if you use the same character.

I got the 150 sniper kills within 3 kills of my second playthrough.

And yes, the texture pop-in is a Unreal 3 issue.

It doesn't have to be the same character. I got the pistol achievement after like 3 shots with my new character.

Good to know.

Ok I'm going for the achievements for having the same person in your crew the whole time. Does exploring side planets have an effect here, the achievement says majority so is this just for the three main missions then?

Sidequests also.

Sidequests also count. You have to be very careful with some of the characters. I just finished a playthrough where I got the achievement for one ally, but not the other. I was pretty pissed because I got my completionist achievement before visiting Virmire, so I thought it was a lock.

I'm going to have to add the achievements to my growing list of problems with this game. At least I'm done with it now. In retrospect I'm regretting the last 20 hours I put into it. That time would have been better off spent playing another game.

Yeah, I'm real close to Extreme Power Gamer.. I could probably grab 140 or so more achievements on my 3rd playthrough. Would take 2 more for me to get all 1000. Just not worth it.

Well that's fucking gay, I played for an hour last night
on the road to Peak 15, and dealing with those annoying "bugs" or whatever and powering up the core
, only to find out that the auto-saves didn't really save.

Ugh, guess I'll have to play through that part again.

I saved pretty much every 5-10 minutes to avoid situations such as this. By the end of two playthroughs I had saved 270 times. I really wish that console games of this type would do a better job with (1) autosaving, and (2) providing some sort of quicksave button. I just started playing through Bioshock again with the vitachambers turned off and it suffers from the same problem... I find myself going into the menus every 5 minutes to save and it really takes you out of the immersion.

I saved nearly 800 times on my first playthrough. I save a lot in games. I can't stand bad checkpoint systems, if I die there should automatically be a save at the last thing I completed, be it scouting a mineral or hacking a chest. I save pretty much after I do anything on a first playthrough. Plus I went save crazy when playing on a towel tricked 360. My new Falcon works like a charm though, and is much more quiet, except for the dvd.

Saving a lot less on my second playthrough though.

I'm Rich Bitch! lol That was easier than I thought to get. It seems the ally achievements will be much harder. I'm a soldier and I had Williams and Wrex with me but then everytime I'd be screwed because I don't have any decryption or electronics. I needed it for the part to get Wrex's family armor so I ditched williams and went with Garrus. That combo would be better anyway but it sucks that I probably don't have enough patience to get the ally achievements.

Are you a joke account, or no?

They turned off auto-saves for the most part because it just takes too long for them to happen. Imagine those long hitches every 5 minutes.

Why don't these games have a quick save button? :\

Bind X to holster/draw weapon. Bind B to grenades. Bind Back to Quick Save.

BioWare should hire me ;)

Agreed. That would be the most obvious, and thus worse, idea.

How hard would it be to make it a configurable option then?

The save system should have been better... they probably just ran out of development time.

Well to me everytime I see the loading screen, I would think the game would auto save then. It's the perfect spot yet it doesn't save there. I'm collecting all the minerals and stuff, are there just enough so if I miss one I'll be screwed or are there a few more than needed in the universe?

The most time I lost to dying because I forgot to save was 10 minutes.. :whistle2:/

At least it saves at the start of every planet. The times I died most unexpectedly was to a thresher maw cheap shotting me.

I just started playing for about an hour and am pretty confused so far...was this most people's reaction when they first started? Also, what class do you think was probably the best class to start out with...I chose vanguard but am regretting it now that I know I can't use a sniper...shoulda picked infiltrator maybe?

Yea you can always start over if its in the beginning. I picked Soldier and although I can't do any cool mass effect moves I loved it. I now realized how to shoot people without aiming with the sniper rifle. With the sniper riffle, hold down RB to have the menu pop up, this will show a little circle in the middle as your reticle. Line it up, let go of RB and shoot instantly taking out the enemy!:bouncy: SO FREaKin AWESOME! (have explosive ammo so they really go flying:lol:)

I heard the Vanguard class is slow, just ride it out and you'll prob love it in the end.

I just beat it on hardcore and now will go for insane... plus 4 levels away from 60. Cool to see hardcore unlocks a gamerpic. I wish more games rewarded the player in-game for getting achievements like this game. The percs you gain from alot of them are superbly usefull.

You get a gamerpic for beating it on Insane difficulty too.

I wouldn't have said "confused," but I did initially regret my purchase. But too many folks said the game was great for it to be a fluke, so I stuck it out. I would say that I was hooked sometime after spending all that time at the Citadel. (If you haven't been there yet, it's after your the first mission.) I'm about 20 hours in (and have done a lot of side missions), and am enjoying it thoroughly. Stick it out; you're going to enjoy the game.

I am a Vanguard, and I don't regret the choice.

My character is just ripping things apart on normal without any effort. I'm just running and gunning... How much harder is hard, or insane?

Also, at what point am I able to adjust difficulty and get the achievements? Do I need to start a new guy? Did I miss where I changed it, or do I just have to change it on the normandy before the first mission?

Beating the game once unlocks Hardcore (I *think*. Not sure specifically what unlocks it). Beating the game on Hardcore, unlocks Insane.

I played through the game on Veteran and only had difficulty in a couple of spots here and there, but nothing that I generally couldn't handle. Then I went New Game+ with my character into Hardcore and it's been a breeze for me. I stopped partway through to let myself play some other games so I can't comment from there but my friend had no problem what so ever New Game+'ing Hardcore but he claimed to have difficulty at one part in Insane.

Pretty much all enemies levels are based on your characters levels. I had a post a ways back on what it specifically was but it would take me too much time currently to search back for it since I'm at work. It was in a spoiler tag if you want to take the effort to go back and mentioned something about leveling before it if you want to go back and check specifics without jumping into one of my other spoiler tags.

Oh and I also hear that IF you start a new character on higher difficulties, it will be harder starting out as opposed to importing a previous character with New Game+.

Yea I heard you get a gamerpic for achieving insane win and high lvl achievements. I just broke lvl 50 and I think my friend said he got one when he did but I didn't check.

I'm almost done with my second playthrough, this time on Hardcore playing as an Infiltrator with shotguns. I'm actually finding it really easy, even though I started with a new character. The unlockable shotgun ability probably has something to do with that as they're my go-to weapon the whole game. Next I'll try out Insane as a Sentinal (w/shotguns) and maybe that'll be a real challenge.

Otherwise the game hold up very well on a second playthrough as the combat is so great and different depending on class. My only criticism is that the Paragon and Renegade paths aren't different enough. I made my second character to look as close to my first as possible and it feels almost like out-takes from my first playthrough because so much of the dialogue plays out the same and then when it doesn't it comes off as being out of place. I would have preferred them being completely different, but oh well, there were still enough fun Renegade moments to make it worthwhile.

I feel like I want to mix it up with a female biotic renegade after a male paragon run-and-gun playthrough.

do both sexes have similar dialogue trees? apologies if this has already been discussed.

Exactly the same except for certain romance subplots.

Well, I'm going to try and breeze through Insane and forget about side quests... I'll do that after insane and then I'll do it on easy :)

My insane run will be entirely renegade since I got the paragon in my hardcore play. This time it'll be a bit more fun to play.

Do you miss out on a lot of side-quests when playing renegade?

I'm going paragon this run, but i'm noticing that a lot of the renegade responses in dialogue are along the lines of "I don't have time for this."
