Mega Man 9 Coming to Wii - Update: Again... Now for PSN/XBLA and Rubber Surgeon
That shit better be running 60 fps
lol.. what excuse could they possibly give for running anything less.

incredible move and really, who the fuck said companies couldn't make 8 or 16-bit games any more? There's definitely a market.

This makes me want to temporarily own a Wii.

I am very disappointed that they are going with an 8-bit version. They won't even have to try and the game can be made by only a handfull of people. This should be ready in about a week.

I'm really excited about this. I'm a HUGE Mega Man geek, have been since I was little. I really hope this is out on XBLA, as I will buy it twelve times :D

To preserve the feel of the original games along with an 8 bit graphical style the frames have been restricted to 15 :p

As am I, I could have probably ignored a 16 bit look but 8? Too big a step back
Eh, definitely would've rather seen it with Mega Man 8 style graphics and sound... 8-bit is just... archaic.
Agreed. I mean , I love the old 8-bit megaman games , but it seems really stupid to have megaman 1-6 be 8-bit , 7 be 16-bit , 8 be 32-bit , then 9 be 8-bit again. Are we living in a time warp? If they wanted to do a new 8-bit megaman game thats cool , but why'd it have to be the much awaited #9?

Edit : After reading an article about the games anouncment on 1up , I kinda gotta retract my feelings a bit. Although I still think its kinda stupid , after finding out that sadly , it doesn't appear that this is THE megaman 9 , just A megaman 9 , it makes it less of a big deal to me.

As cool as this could be, 8 bit just seems lazy. Be it for nostalgia or not. After Mega Man 3 when they added the slide, all the NES ones pretty much been the same minus different Rush abilities. They have no excuse to not make it look like Mega Man 8. Its not like it would take that much longer to make that and the gameplay remains the same as well.

I would find it hilarious if the Wii got an 8bit version, and XBLA/PSN got a version more akin to Mega Man 8.

I'd rather pay 2000 points for a MM game that looks and sounds like a quality product. I don't care about saving money when we so seldom get good MM games anymore.

well, at least there's a MM9 being made... I do think capcom is splitting fans though. In this case I do see that they will need to do a follow up within this year or soon in the form of MM10 but like MM8 style or better.

Lame, I can play Mega Man 1-6 for the 8-Bit feel. If they are making a Mega Man 9 it should be in a clean, new style that matches the original artwork for the series.

Even with a Wii downloadable they could pull that kind of game off, Capcom has always had the best sprites.

Morrigan's not so sure about that:

There's probably some souped up frat boy version coming to XBLA/PSN, complete with bump-animations and alphablenders.

So quit yer bitchin', bitches.
I think its pretty bad ass frankly. I just hope they play with our expectations and nostalgia of 8-bit.
I agree. I think it's odd/unexpected but it still wont block me from buying it. Mega Man 2 is my favorite game ever. This direction seems made for me.

I can't wait to hear more about this game. I knew there was going to be more to this game than just a straightforward sequel. I was initially underwhelmed because I loved the art in Mega Man 8 and 7 (which looked better than a lot of Playstation games IMO). So much so that I actually beat Mega man & Bass. But now, I think this is a fantastic direction to go in and will turn out to be a labor of love from Keiji Inafune.

My hunch is that the 360 and PS3 versions will be proof somebody at Capcom played Space Invaders Extreme or Pac-Man championship edition.

That fanmade morrigan sprite art isn't too bad considering it only took a couple hours. Kinda messed up her hips though, and she should be smiling! (and boobs too but shh)
I would find it hilarious if the Wii got an 8bit version, and XBLA/PSN got a version more akin to Mega Man 8.
what is wrong with your bro? Don't even joke about that. Do you realize how likely it is they would do something like that and call it 'supporting the Wii'. *shudders* Just don't.. don't even say it. I'd rather wear a T-Shirt that says "Brett Ratner for Robo-Cop 4"

The Wii will probably get a cool 8-bit version, while the 360/PS3 get the same thing, but loaded with bloom and blur effects...oh, and everything will be tinted brown too, next gen hardcore extreme
.oh, and everything will be tinted brown too, next gen hardcore extreme
well obviously because Megaman comes from a post-apocalyptic future where mankind has lost hope and he was to restore it, quite frankly I'm not sure how they'll get around not making it black and white.
Hopefully the 8-bit graphics with lower the cost of the game.
HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
Yea, right. Like that's going to happen.

8 bit graphics is kinda cheesy though. There is nothing wrong using modern graphics with 8 bit gameplay.

why 8 bit? its 2008 why would anyone want to play with eight bit graphics anymore. i feel that capcom is taking a step backward with mega Man 9. mega man seven was 16-bit and mega Man eight was 32-bit. why go backward ?it seems like a lazy cost-cutting measure to me. Mega man is your mascot capcom don't be stingy.

I think the gameplay will hold up. It's amazing what I've seen people do in less than 100kb of game data, so expect gameplay to be good but graphics pulled back... or at least I hope.

Am I the only one who feels this 8bit move is being really lazy? It just seems like they're playing it a bit too safe.

Hopefully by 8 bit they mean they're keeping the 8 bit style, while adding a bit of more modern 2D flare.

It's easy to say they're being lazy, but I don't think that's it. I think they hope to hook people with the novelty of something that looks like it's straight out of 1989.

Well, it seems like everyone but a couple Capcom apologists hate it so far...
So many tasty tears in here. I dont even need to eat today.
I'm sittin' pretty knowing I wont have any lag :whee:
I'm sittin' pretty knowing I wont have any lag :whee:
You're still on about this? You realize that I was right about HDTV's lagging on 480i content in every non-CRT TV?

I put a link to a faq on HDTV input lag in my sig, from fubarduck, who is well regarded in the fighting game community.
Well, it seems like everyone but a couple Capcom apologists hate it so far...
I'm a Capcom apologist? Crazy! I haven't been enamored with much of Mega Man since the 8-bit days, hence if they're trying to perfect what they did back in the day in the same visual style, I'm all for it.

CAG actually seems particularly negative about it, for some reason. GAF is predominantly positive about it.
Well, GAF also bans you if you walk into a thread complaining that a game isnt on X platform with A, B and C instead :p
Eh, I kinda wish they did that more often so there would have been a lot less whining about WiiWare, no achievements, HD, etc before it was generally understood that it would be coming to XBLA and PSN as well.

I can see why people are upset at the 8-bit style of this game. I'd be pissed if a new 2D Metroid was coming out and it was on par with the NES Metroid. Or if it was a new Castlevania that played and looked like the first one on NES.
Well, it seems like everyone but a couple Capcom apologists hate it so far...
Everything I've read/heard has been extremely positive, save for a few haters.

It seems like this move is more risky than safe. Hopefully it turns out well!
Eh, I kinda wish they did that more often so there would have been a lot less whining about WiiWare, no achievements, HD, etc before it was generally understood that it would be coming to XBLA and PSN as well.
Can you elaborate on this point? I hadnt been paying attention to their thread.

Now if only they could add some functionality to the Wii in which I would have to pick it up and blow in the slot a few times to get it to work, we're all set!

This might be my second digitally distributed purchase (first was Geometry Wars).

Exactly.
Can you elaborate on this point? I hadnt been paying attention to their thread.
The likelihood of an 8-bit Mega Man being a WiiWare exclusive is pretty slim - in addition, it had been rated by the OFLC for 360 and PS3 to begin with. If it (or another Mega Man) does not show up on the other downloadable services, I'd be shocked.

According to Sven on the Capcom boards, Maverick Hunter X is getting rereleased on PSN for PSP. And there are more secrets about the game not revealed in NP, so who knows what they're doing.

Yeah, but Mega Man looks better than those games (also plays way better too IMO).
Yeah, but Mega Man looks better than those games (also plays way better too IMO).
Which is exactly why I'm not concerned at all. This is akin to releasing a sequel using the SMB3 engine. It's not a grand slam that it'll be good, but if level design is well done, it'll play perfectly. I always thought the control of the NES MM games was way better than their 16bit counterparts, even the first X.

The proportions are all wrong when they started dinking with MM's sprite. Squat, 8bit MM is the way it should be.

Honestly, I've never cared for MM 7 or 8. 2 and 3 and my personal favorites, and I like 4 because of the charged up Mega Buster.

I really like the X series up to a point, which was X4. X5 was OK, but I felt that it was the beginning of the end, i.e. X6 through X8.
Well, it seems like everyone but a couple Capcom apologists hate it so far...
Resident Evil 4. Mega Man Legends. "Capcom apologists" exist because the company has shown the ability to turn things franchises around when they really want to. Its really hard to do. Sonic the Hedgehog was supposed to revive the sonic franchise. The last Medal of Honor was supposed to reenergize the series.

We've only just started receiving details about this game, so excuse me if I sound optimistic.
