Mega Man 9 Coming to Wii - Update: Again... Now for PSN/XBLA and Rubber Surgeon
Exactly. You can remake a game all you want, but it's still fundamentally the same thing... this is a series that desperately needs something new, so at least this has a chance of finally delivering that.
It's tried something new and it doesn't work. But if by "new" you mean hi-res graphics then I agree.

But I don't think the series desperately needs anything. The GBA games still sell well to the kiddies right? I'm only asuming that because they've already had like 15 sequels.

The major gripe I had with Mega Man 7 was the sprite animation for Mega Man. In all other Mega Man games while powering up the Mega Buster, Mega Man stands/runs naturally. In MM7, he holds it up there taunting opponents like 'here, chop it off. Right there. Come on. I can't do anything while it's charging.' It was just annoying.

BTW, I don't care what people say, the 8-bit style choice is awesome. That's how Mega Man is known. As an 8-bit sprite.

Heres something interesting, an interview with Inafune from E3 2006 with Planet Megaman.
Transcript

Sean: That's really great. And, one really quick last generic question, are you considering any Rockman titles
for the Nintendo Wii or PlayStation 3?

Keiji Inafune: PlayStation 3, probably the target audience that's going to purchase the PlayStation 3, uh, it's
going to be people with a lot more money, and maybe it would not be the most suitable, uh, platform for the
Mega Man series.

Sean: I agree.

Keiji Inafune: However, the Wii definitely has some potential, and it's maybe one where our target audience
could embrace the Mega Man series. So while we haven't planned anything specific now at this time, I think
probably that the potential is the highest on that piece of hardware.
To be fair, Capcom really doesnt understand the concept of exclusive.

HA.. everyone laughed at me and look what turns out to be probable. obviously Kotaku isn't gospel. But with Capcom taking the time to remove the listing it looks like it COULD happen.
They skipped Mega Man 9 though, Mega Man X is suposed to be Mega Man 10 right?! ;)
the X in Mega Man X isn't for 10 it's for 'future'. It's a different series like BattleNetwork or whatever they call the new ones

What are you happy about? As a Mega Man fan I'd want this game to be available to the largest audience possible. High sales could lead to more Mega Man classic.

It isnt quite as simple as going for more sales vs less sales, depending on the costs involved.

For instance, will the discerning PS3/360 user buy it, or do they demand a game with higher graphical fidelity?
Is it worth the money hats involved to go full or timed exclusive?

With that aside, its the business of console partisans to want their library to be stronger, especially at the expense of other platforms.

Also while it shouldnt be the case here, many people believe that games built with a single platform in mind are better than multiplatform games.

This is gonna be an 8-bit game, it should be everywhere. I can't fathom this game having any huge development costs and it just ain't right to only limit to the Wii :/

Granted I have one with 3000+ points to spare, but I'd be down for a PSN release as well. Nintendo's online shop isn't even on par with XBLA/PSN, plus the internal memory blows + backing up stuff on SD cards = NOT FUN.

People sure do like to complain when a low-fi game coming out in a respected franchise only appears on one console. I wonder why that is.

I'd love for Catan and Carcassonne to be on Wiiware, but that aint happenin'.

And yet, when it was supposedly headed elsewhere, everyone decried the graphics and such.

Make up your damn minds, kids.

I can't fathom playing an 8-bit game with the 360's horrible D-pad. And I'd refuse to play it with the Analog stick too. I'd rather play it NES style.

 the wink means sarcasm. But I knew someone would try to correct that.

How do you know its the same people? I have no interest in crappy looking XBLA games just like I have no interest in 8 bit games on Wii Ware etc. I can't stand to play that kind of stuff on my HDTV. Both for graphics, and I don't usually feel like turning everything on to play some old game, or some pick up and play arcade game.

Put it on the DS, and I'll give it a go. Both because graphics don't matter there and I mainly use it for short bursts so a game like Pacman CE would get much more play on the DS than it has on my 360.

Just delete it and redownload it later if you want to play it again. It's probably faster than using the horridly slow SD interface in the Wii anyway.

It's for piece of mind and just in case I don't have internet at the moment.

I'd love to play Mega Man 9 but I don't have any of those new fangled systems. Being broke sucks. I hope it comes out for PS2, DS, or PC one day!

Did people already fogot already the best version of MM1-3 is actually Wily's war on genesis? It has the original MM with 16bit graphics

Is that better than MM 1 with PSP graphics?

I dont think that game was ever released retail tho...

it was exclusive to Sega Channel.

I think....

seems that (I am guessing though) it may have co-op:

I'll have to find my Nintendo Power to confirm, but I believe it said there was a level that had 'shadow Mega Men' that came out of the wall when you pass certain spots; that seems to be what that screen shot is, not co-op.

Edit: From Nintendo Power's article: "In Plug Man's stage you'll have to deal with shadowy Mega Man clones that emerge when you walk past certain walls". Although co-op could be hella fun...
Inafune (Mega Man creator) is aiming for Mega Man 9 to surpase Mega Man 2. I still pop in my Mega Man Anniversry Collection and play some Mega Man 2. This urges me to play through the entire series again. Honestly I prefer this over a Mega Man 9 with 3D graphics.

Remember, we're also getting an brand new NES game. I think that's pretty cool.
I like Inafune but think he's loony if he thinks he can surpass such a STELLAR game. turns into Quickman and throws Boomerang at Rodimus. ;)

I agree, Mega Man 2 and (my other favorite) 4 will not easily be beaten.

I also love the graphics of 8, so if they aren't going to go for the best graphics, they are doomed.

I'm still going to play it, but I didn't even try 6.

So September 08 in Japan it seems. Atleast that ugly wall of text reveals one thing.
I also believe the second Mega Man was the best, just ahead of Mega Man V for the classic gameboy which almost rivals it.

Having just played through all the NES ones (some of which I hadn't played before) I think my current ranking goes something like this:

2 > 3 > 4 > 1 > 6 > 5

The one bright spot in 5 was Gravity Man's stage. Other than that, from level design to music to bosses, it's a complete throw away. :(
It's funny how people love MM2 the most when he didn't even have the slide or buster shot yet.
So what? It was the memorable bosses, level design, music, and weapons that helped the game shine through. Mega Man & Bass had an autocharge feature (you didn't have to hold down the button to charge anymore) that was pretty awesome but the game still wasn't able to stand out.

I actually like the fact that people enjoy the Mega Man 2 over all the rest, I was only stating an observation.

My favorite has been MM3 since it came out and my friend got it for his birthday. As soon as we discovered the trick about holding right on the 2p pad, we started doing all kinds of crazy stuff in that game.
I just love 4 for it's awesome Robot Masters and the charge beam.
I couldn't get enough of the awesome music. Skull Man's stage is still one of my favorite themes ever.

After seeing that brief video clip, I'm stoked. Looks like it's a return to form for Mega Man.
