Megazell's Free And Legal PC Games List!

Post Update.

This game is no longer in alpha!
Facewound

Shooter/Platformer
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - No

Theme: Horror

Facewound is a 2D side scrolling shoot'em up that should retail for about $15, but Facepunch Studios decided to stop production and release it for free. Actually, the game is not complete, and is stated that the released version should be handled with care - unfinished, unpolished and should be treated with the same attitude you'd treat a leaked alpha with.

With that out of the way, it's time to say that Facewound is a brilliant piece of old school shooter action. It deftly merges the control scheme we know and love from Abuse (keyboard for movement and mouse for aiming) with some furious zombie shooting and visual effects aplenty. Unfinished? Yes, things like stair climbing animation are missing. Unpolished? Maybe, it could use some play testing to make sure the difficulty level and weapons access is balanced. Furious and fun? Absolutely!

Our hero is facing a zombie invasion and needs to cross the levels by shooting everything in sight and jumping a lot. You can perform some fabulous headshots but sometimes the zombies keep coming even without their heads. Dead enemies drop some green plutonium bars that must be collected to increase a meter and earn credits to purchase better weapons. It will take some time to experience the entire arsenal, ranging from simple handguns to machine guns, bows, grenades, laser weapons and flamethrowers. The visual effects that accompany the more powerful weapons are something to see, from the burning scenery (and zombies) to the glowing edges of buildings. Explosions are loud and the whole game is fast and frantic.

The weapon handling feels great (despite some occasional bugs, with a couple of them separated from your hands) and the bullet impact sounds perfect, with some delicious 'crunch' effects. Music is hard-hitting and powerful.

Facewound is a blast. It may be dubbed unfinished by its authors but it's extremely playable as it is and the bugs aren't that noticeable. Absolutely recommended.

Megazell's Comment - This game plays extremely well. It's a great game in all honesty. Very fun, funny and full of challenges. If the game is incomplete I did not notice it at all. I have yet to end it but from playing some of the levels it is groovy.

:) Not sure about AZ but in NYC there are plenty of free ISPs around. Maybe you can give it a gander. Unless you was offline for other reason then I apologize :)

Hey Megazell, any recommendations on ARPG's? My friends and I have been playing Torchlight 2 and we're almost done with it. We're going to need a new one soon.
Hey Megazell, any recommendations on ARPG's? My friends and I have been playing Torchlight 2 and we're almost done with it. We're going to need a new one soon.
Does the settings matter? Fantasy or Science Fiction?
Not at all. As long as it's fun, we'll play.
So you're looking fora 2 or more player ARPG...Hmm

Dungeon of Fayte - This does not play exactly like Diablo but it has the same sort of mechanic. The graphics are 8-bit. If you're looking to play online only then this won't fit for you guys since it's a HOTSEAT CO-OP meaning 2 to 4 ppl can play on the same machine.

SECRET OF ULTIMATE LEGENDARY FANTASY UNLEASHED - If you have LAN multiplayer as a option you can try this.

Summoning Wars - This is good for online play for 2 to 8 players.

I Shall Remain - Prologue - Though this has RPG like elements it plays more like a top down horror shooter.

^ I don't think these games fit exactly what you are looking for but take a look. I do an awful job for sorting the games at times especially when they are in genres that I don't play much.

It's not on my list but Drakensang Online is a good Diablo-Like MMO. I played it awhile back and had a good time with it without spending a dime.

You do more than enough as it is with this thread. Can't start separating everything into sub-genres, that would take months. Thank you for the suggestions. I also looked into Marvel Heroes and that looks up my alley. It's going to be F2P too if you want to keep your eye on it for this thread.

Eventually, I am going to break down the genre of each section in the same way that I have the shooters section.

I am also hoping to have time to then break down the multiplayer sections to LAN, Hotseat and Online play.

Then break it down even further into sections that would read Windows Only, Mac Only, Linux Only and crosses between the 3.

Marvel Heroes looks interesting but it probably won't make it to the list because of the subs and cash shops. My kids still play Marvel Superhero Squad Online quite often though.

Cube MetalHeart is a multi-player shooter based on the Cube 2 Engine. It's an extended version of Sauerbraten, like a standalone mod. Featuring new graphics, textures, levels, sounds, models, soundtrack and backward compatibility to Sauerbraten maps and servers ! Music by lukhash.com

Megazell's Comment - I've played CUBE games here and there. I enjoyed AssaultCube and still play it from time to time....but this version is SUPER FREAKING AWESOME. First off the menu and setup is not that much different but it has enough changes from the CUBE 2 to make it stand out and I really do appreciate it. The 3D menu is nice but a little hard to get use to. The Desura description does not do it enough justice. There is a strong SP option here to take on bots in all of the modes CUBE 2 has and the added INVASION mode which is my personal favorite. This is great for LAN and ONLINE multiplayer with some friends.

Well it's been 5ish years and that was the first SPAM attack on this thread. That's a good track record! :)

So with M.U.G.E.N are the character assets already in the program? I see a battletoad fighting Leonardo which is badass. I have no experience with making games or anything programming related but this seems cool

edit... watched the video, not sure if I'd be able to make anything decent but may try anyway

Wait, where'd the dick pill ad go?

In the video description are links to more characters. I once dl a torrent that had over 30,000+ characters from Street Fighter to Action movie stars. Also in the fighting section are a few MUGEN games. You can dl those and take the characters from there also.

The mods did final justice on the dick pill ad.

Ah thanks for the heads up. 30,000 characters???? Holy shit, how could you even get through the list to see who you wanted to add? and do they all have their own moveset already? Very intrigued by this, will try to check this out this afternoon.

and Damn those selfish mods, they wanna keep the secrets of having a giant pocket rocket all to themselves

Depends on who made the characters. Many character makers put movelist text files in their char folder. So if you really want to read up on the character before you go in check those folders.

The file I dl was not in a game yet it was just characters. I took the ones I wanted out and made my MUGEN. Ultimate Mugen 2009 was last contribution that I worked on. I just edited out characters with fixed characters from other sets. I am currently collecting every freeware character made to make a freeware MUGEN fighting game. I am not sure when this will be complete as I have a lot of other projects on my shoulders.

Thats awesome, and I'm sure you are wicked busy, this thread alone seems like a job! Thanks for the work you do btw.

I have no programming skills at all so I think I will wait to you create the character collection before I try anything even if it takes a really long time, I'm in no rush

Black Mesa

Black Mesa (formerly Black Mesa: Source) is a Half-Life 2 total conversion remaking of Valve Software's award-winning PC game, Half-Life.

Utilizing the Source engine, Black Mesa will reintroduce the player as Doctor Gordon Freeman, along with the original cast of memorable characters and environments seen in Half-Life. Black Mesa was built and founded on the basis that Half-Life: Source didn't fully live up to the potential of a Source engine port of Half-Life. As such, Black Mesa was founded to fully reconstruct the Half-Life universe utilizing Source to its fullest potential in terms of art detail, level sizes and code features. It should be noted that the project is being built from the ground up and is not a simple port of Half Life maps and models into the Source Engine. The idea is to remake the storyline used in Half Life into a new polished Source Engine version with new models, maps, soundtrack, voice acting and textures.

This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source to play - only the Source SDK Base 2007 which is available for free on Steam.

Megazell's Comment - I find the Desura install to be a lot easier. Take your pick, though.

It took a few hero movies for them to unite against a common threat in The Avengers. So it’s with perfect timing that Brazilian developer Zvitor launches Marvel First Alliance, an indie game created with the popular OpenBor engine. The game is a beat’em up inspired by the likes of Streets of Rage and Double Dragon and features a dream team that will certainly please any Marvel fan. But best of all, it features simultaneous four-player action in one computer!

We begin the story mode, where we fight against malefic organization Hydra, by choosing our hero from the few available, such as Hulk, Captain America or Thor, among others. While these are as good as any, it’s great to find out that others will be unlocked as we defeat the enemy bosses – prepare to meet old favorites such as Wolverine, Storm, Spiderman, Colossus, Iron Man, Nightcrawler, Cyclops and many more. Each character is not just aesthetically different and faithful to the comic sources; they also have different movement types, speed and special attacks. The author mentions that he has no affiliation whatsoever with Marvel or Capcom – it’s a fan game after all – so let’s hope that the game remains available to all fans of good and free beat’em ups.

The long development period is reflected in the final game, with the large number of heroes and the attention to detail in the backgrounds. The classic side-scrolling gameplay throws large quantities of enemies at the player, most of them clones that serve as filler until we reach the final boss in each level. Although gameplay is entertaining and properly frantic, it’s also somewhat repetitive due to the nature of the concept itself. Thankfully, the large and diverse cast offers some variety to the proceedings and there’s always the will to try just another new hero to see how he/she looks and feels. - FreePCGamer.com

As part of a pack of rats sporting some of the scariest grins I’ve seen in a while, you’ll jump and glide along boxy maps of basic real-world settings—an office, a train, an alien cryo chamber—while jockeying to peg a foe on your reticule and dancing away from everyone else’s. It’s simple, and that’s the point—Instagib, like its namesake mode, boils down the FPS to win or lose, kill or die. - PCGamer.com
