Bite The Bullet

Shooter/Arena
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - No
Netbook Friendly

Theme: Science Fiction

Bite the Bullet is the latest creation by 9_6, developer of the colorful Hyper Wars: The Mega Firestorm. The game plays very differently from standard shooters, in which the player has to avoid bullets for as long as possible to increase the bonus count.

Shooting with a bonus greater than ten will activate the autofire mode and imbue the ship with temporary invulnerability. The number of homing projectiles shot during this period depends on your bonus counter.

Press the A key to shoot and hold the S key to activate the slow motion mode, but only if the gauge shown at the top right of the screen is filled up. This bar replenishes steadily over time, and holding the same button will change your ship into a hit box, allowing players to easily dodge bullets.

The bonus counter increases when the player doesn't fire any shots. Destroying an enemy ship awards the player with a health collectible, though acquiring one can be a rather difficult task as your adversaries do not stay around for long.

Tiltor is a game made using AGS, but surprisingly there's not a single element of adventure to be found in this effort. It's actually a linear puzzler that requires the use of only four buttons for all actions, including menu selection and saving your progress.

The objective in each level is to get a red block to the exit by tilting the screen left and right

N'vaders is a rather unique Space Invaders tribute by TehSilentOne. Enemies are made out of blocks which you can destroy part by part, while collecting blue orbs will increase your energy count.

Midas

I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. Wanderlands' contribution to Ludum Dare 22 is a formidable little puzzle platformer centered around the myth of King Midas, the man with the golden touch. It's also surprisingly poignant. Each level is centered around the same task. You, as the titular character, must make his way to some blue blocks in order to remove his ability to transform everything into precious metal. The reason for this constant quest? A girl whose hand you want to hold.

In spite of the simplistic visuals, Midas is actually rather tough. Your talent for turning things into gold will be both a boon and a constant thorn in your side. Thanks to the fact that golden blocks are heavier than black ones, you'll find yourself spending a lot of time dodging falling geometrical objects and moving carefully across long paths. One false move and you'll find yourself bereft of a way back. - IndieGames.com

So last night, I got some time to actually play an MMORPG. I chose to give Shaiya a shot since I featured it here recently and the whole permanent death of your character appeals to me.

I played for 2 hours and 3 mins. In that time I went from lvl 1 to 11, earned 302,321 Gold and died 2 times in safe zones. I made a 'Alliance Of The Fury' - Vail - Assassin. I was solo for 1.5 hours and teamed up with 2 friends towards the end.

The game plays very well. The actual game content and story line needs more polish. I can forgive a few typos but I noticed more than 10...mostly lower case letters on names and extra text at the end of certain reward text like '/e.'

The teleportation system is great but expensive...though there are quite a few ways to find free teleports throughout the game.

The game feels hollow but I thinks that the desired affect. Since I will be moving on to 'Danger' zones and quest in which I can lose my character I think the depth of the game is not so deep that when a player does lose a character it will not feel utterly awful.

One gripe that I have with the game is that once you go to one side (faction) you must del all of your characters of that side to make a character of the other side. I am sure this is to balance the game some how.

Overall, I like that game and I will be playing it for a little longer tonight to see what the 'Danger' is all about.

Madhouse

Theme: Horror

MADHOUSE is truly a unique game; a top-down shooter adventure-RPG with a comical horror theme. With iconic, retro-stylized graphics to give the game an "old school" feeling, this game plays like no other. Featuring a medley of colorful and original characters, all possessing individual weapons, stats, and special abilities, MADHOUSE gives players the opportunity to play as a vengeful zombie, a gasmask wearing amnesiac mercenary, a deranged sociopath dressed as a clown, or a mysterious little man shrouded in rags... And that's not even mentioning the twelve other playable characters that are waiting to be unlocked!

Be warned, though, MADHOUSE is not a game for the faint of heart! Although the graphics give the SD style characters the appearance of being "cute" or "lovable", the story is quite serious, and the game play itself is vicious and intense! Guns, bombs, chainsaws, flamethrowers, and various melee weapons are the standard for killing anything that stands in the way! Did I forget to mention all the blood? But don't be scared; as violent as it sounds, it's all done in good taste with plenty of lighthearted fun!

Megazell's Comment - There is no AI in this game. So this is a good game to play with a friend over the web - IP by IP or with 2 to 4 ppl on the same computer. Game Story

Recently, you have begun to find yourself unfulfilled and distant in your daily occupation. Strange dreams of prospecting, stealing, crusading, and combat have haunted you in your sleep for many months, but you aren't sure of the reason. You wonder whether you have in fact been having those dreams all your life, and somehow managed to forget about them until now. Some nights you awaken suddenly and cry out, terrified at the vivid recollection of the strange and powerful creatures that seem to be lurking behind every corner of the dungeon in your dream. Could these details haunting your dreams be real?

In the morning you awake, collect your belongings, and set off for the dungeon. After several days of uneventful travel, you see the ancient ruins that mark the entrance to the Mazes of Menace. It is late at night, so you make camp at the entrance and spend the night sleeping under the open skies. In the morning, you gather your gear, eat what may be your last meal outside, and enter the dungeon...

Enter the World of Net Hack

NetHack is a simple dungeon crawling RPG that can be played on almost any computer. The game is simple but follows most the traditional RPG styles. Rank up your character, choose different races to play, increase stats and skills like strength, dexterity, charisma, constitution etc.

Just don't forget to come out of the dungeons for real food now and then OK?

Megazell's Comment - I played this game years ago. It was a lot of fun. I know a few people that still pay it from time to time when they can not meet up in person for their weekly DnD meet. :) If you are turned off by the look of the game but love the gameplay style...I highly suggest you look at the mods for this game because there are many that change the tile sets to make the game 3D. The screenshot section shows some of the mods that I am talking about.

Gate 88

Real Time Strategy
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - Yes

Theme: Science Fiction

At first glance Gate 88 seems quite reminiscent of the game Asteroids. And fittingly, with its colorful vector-style graphics and space theme the game does successfully capture the feel of the classic shooter.

But once you get past the introductory tutorial, you'll realize that Gate 88 is much more than a simple space shooter, because it's also a really fun and unique real-time strategy game!

The action is fairly straightforward, but also very exciting and explosive. The real challenge is to build and maintain your fleet while you fight for territory, because you have to stay on top of it all if you're going to win!

Gate 88 also features a great soundtrack and great battle animations to accompany your missions, and with the online multiplayer feature, there's a ton of replayability in this completely free game.

Megazell's Comment - Another game that is a blast from the past for me. This game is very impressive but won't be liked by everyone due to the graphics. Your eyes may bleed if you are not use to the neon colors. Other than that this game is a great RTS game with a lot of unique gameplay mechanics.

Climb to the heights of the heavens on an Icy Tower?

Harold the Homeboy is struggling! He needs your help to climb an Icy Tower! You will jump from platform to platform up and up and up the tower. If you miss one, you will fall down and down and down.

Download characters such as Bart Simpson, Sonic, Mario, Guybrush Threepwood, Kirby, a worm (PC-Game Worms) or make up your own characters! It is an easy process and a lot of fun to see the character you designed in this game trying to scale the tower.

Every level gets a bit tougher

This game, though free, is very addicting. You will try and make it up the 100 floors each time you play and wonder why you can't seem to make it all the way up the Icy Tower. Download this game for hours of free fun and challenges!

Megazell's Comment - This is a very fun game. BTW - the game will ask you if you want to install toolbars @ the end of the installation. This is optional. I recommend you DO NOT install them. Scorched 3D

Turn Based Strategy

Theme: Warfare

Experience a Modernization of the Classic Scorched Earth

Scorched 3D is based on the classic DOS game Scorched Earth, "The Mother Of All Games", and features lively three dimensional landscapes with varied and detailed terrain where the battles take place. View scenes full of beautifully rendered elements, such as naval vessels, soaring jets, water, birds, and even prehistoric flying dinosaurs.

Experience the real-time strategy action found in this turn-based artillery game as you face off against armies of enemy tanks. Counter your enemies' weapons with an assortment of creative accessories, shields, and tactics.

Simple Yet Challenging Gameplay

The interface and controls are quite simple and easy to pick up. In essence, you choose from several different tanks and then start up a game on a height generated map, mostly an island on which you are positioned between your rivals. Then it is a simple matter of adjusting the height-angle, direction, force, and weapon type you want in order to hit your enemies and ultimately destroy them.

When you kill someone, you will earn money which you can use to buy new weapons and items before the start of the next round. The addition of a third dimension to the gameplay adds in many challenges both in navigation and aiming, but at least the controls, with a freely rotating camera, help to keep things in perspective.

Intriguing Strategic Options

With the wide array of weapons such as lasers that cut through the bumpy terrain and nuclear warheads, there are plenty of different strategies which you can try as you take on your opponents. Enjoy a challenging single player experience against the computer or play online against up to 24 players, mixing computer players with humans on both randomly generated 3D landscapes and user designed maps.

Learn skills in timing, aiming and judgment, navigating the landscape, and even how to out-smart your adversaries economically. Practice and master the various maps in order to become a consistent winner!

So if you like intense turn-based artillery action, download Scorched 3D and start the fight today!

"They want war too methodical, too measured; I would make it brisk, bold, impetuous, perhaps sometimes even audacious." - Jomini

Steel Panthers is a tactical WWII era historical war game. It follows the format of alternating turns ("I go, you go" or IGOUGO). Steel Panthers includes a timed option where each player gets a certain amount of time to make his move before the opponet gets to make their move.

Simple design and fun play make Steel Panthers a winner!

You will find Steel Panthers to be easy to play because of the intuitive nature of the game. There are icons which represent armory, artillery, and mortars. The field is laid out so that each hex is equal to 50 yeards. This game is an interesting and easy to play tactical war game!

One cool feature of this game is the variety of tanks which can be used. Try the Leopard 2A6, M1A1, Challenger II, Merkava MBT, or a host of other prototypes! Hop in your tank and let yourself engage in Steel Panthers: World at War!

The game also features a multi-player mode where you can have a blast trying to decimate your opponents' units.

Official Description:

Sopwith and its much-improved successor, Sopwith 2, is a CGA game designed for both single player play, and also equipped to handle up to 8 players in multiplayer mode (4 human, 4 computer). It is a side-scrolling biplane action game involving two sides - cyan and magenta. The object of the game in single-player is to destroy all of the enemy buildings and vehicles, either by shooting, bombing, or colliding with them.

Shoot 'em up on the glorious high-seas!

Sea of Chaos is a 3D shooter that brings the action to some very restless waters. In the game you'll be manning multiple ships in your quest to defend the homeland against the evil pirates and finally bring peace and security back to the seas.

The game play is fun and straightforward: blow up your enemies as soon as you see them! Coupled with a surprising storyline, beautiful graphics, and a cool soundtrack, the only drawback is that the game isn't longer than it is.

Game Story:

In an age where violence rules the seas, there is a vast ocean that divides the land. Powerful countries have formed due to their advancements in ship technology, but despite that, many smaller countries lead a more simple life in the open seas. It is common to find traveling merchants and mercenaries throughout the land.

Captain Chaos of the 3rd fleet of the Crusaders is an admired leader in his home of Oppenheimer. One day, terrible news came from a merchant from the far shores of a vast country named Vandamour. He was told that a grand Vandamourian fleet was making its way towards smaller countries to conquer them.

Knocked off his feet, Captain Chaos could not believe what he had just heard. There was no way he could ever give up his country to a bunch of outsiders.

Frightened but strong willed, Captain Chaos gathers his fleet in a battle to fight for his country's honor and survival.

Empyreal Nocturne

Clear the Skies of Your Enemies!

Giant monstrosities have entered your domain and threaten your very existence. Take to the skies as a god bird and use your flock of birds to hit these behemoths' weak points to bring them down. Experience third-person aerial action as you command your legion of birds in the exciting gameplay of Empyreal Nocturne.

Unique Gamplay

Empyreal Nocturne has some rather interesting gameplay mechanics and, yet, keeps the controls simple enough that even new gamers can get the hang of things within only a few minutes of play. You control the large god bird and utilize the flock of smaller birds that fly in front of you to do a variety of actions.

Control the flight of your god bird with the 'WASD' keys and aim with the mouse. The cursor will change and rotate when you are in range of one of the monster's target orbs, then just click with the left mouse button to send out your birds to attack. Additionally you can sacrifice a bird with the space bar to get a temporary speed boost or regain some of your health by clicking the right mouse button. You can also have your birds defend you from attacks by rolling the scroll wheel on your mouse backward, and simply reenter attack mode by scrolling the wheel forward.

An Entertaining Experience

While there are only a handful of enemy monster's to fight, each requires some skill and patience to bring down. You are pretty much fighting a succession of bosses and each one gets progressively more difficult to defeat, even with the additional birds you receive with each progression. There is also some strategy involved in that you are constantly replenishing the birds at your command, but you must be careful how many you send out to attack and that they have enough time to get back to you to defend against your enemy's counterattack.

So if you are looking for a fun and interesting game that doesn't require a huge time investment, then try out Empyreal Nocturne and experience fascinating aerial-combat that doesn't cost you a single penny!

A fun and free Castlevania parody tribute!

Hasslevania is a satirical platformer that will remind you of all the fun you had playing Castlevania. You'll get to run around some challenging and fun levels, roaming cemeteries and such chasing the likes of Count Dracula!

In Hasslevania, the Count is actually your next door neighbor, and he's a noisy one at that. In fact, he's keeping you from getting to sleep at night! Your mission in this game is to rid yourself of this neighbor menace - but beware - there are plenty of skeletons and medusas that will get in your way! Also note: this ghoulish game is PG-13, and therefore not for the younger kids.

Thread Update!

I wanted to take the time out to say thanks to those of you who have been using the Megaupload links that I posted.

Those links where mainly put up in the event that the primary link (which is usually the official link by the developer) is down.

By the amount of people using the Megaupload links I was granted a free year on Megaupload...So thanks for that...but I highly recommend everyone use the primary link.

Also, even if my backup link works...let me know if the primary link is down...maybe the developers moved and I can replace that link with a more recent one.

Peace,
Megazell

Hurford is a somewhat average music loving teen - who still happens to like animal slippers.

One night a storm hits and Hurford finds himself transported to an incredibly odd world where citizens of many planets are made to think everything is simply OK. However, Hurford refuses to believe the propaganda and is determined to find the cause of his unexpected relocation and imprisonment.

Out of Order is a brilliant point and click adventure with humurous dialogue, colorful characters, and challenging puzzles right up to the very end. You'll help Hurford navigate "The Town" and with the help of other characters, and of course items you pick up along the way, expose the secret of the myserious "Panel" who controls The Town and its citizens.

A lot of laughs

From Hurford's sarcasm to an alien doctor with a lisp, you'll get quite a few chuckles from Out of Order. The game doesn't take itself seriuosly and loves to throw in a few cracks about adventure games and computer game addicts along the way. Although challenging and at times nerve wracking, the puzzles are clever and will give you a sense of accomplishment when you figure them out.

High quality freeware

You will notice from the begining that Out of Order really stands out for a freeware game. Considering these are folks who spend their free time working on these games in small numbers without funding, you'll be really impressed with the level of quality here.

If you love adventure games, especially LucasArts classics like the Maniac Mansion series or Sam and Max, Out of Order is right up your alley.

Block Towers

So, this is a multiplayer game for 2-4 players sitting on the same computer. It's an action platformer with puzzle elements, and it's about building block towers, as the title suggests.

The game has loads of special blocks and special moves and special features, but mainly it's based around a simple idea. Actually I was a bit inspired by that article Paul Eres wrote some time ago about agressive games(about destroying stuff) and tending games(about building stuff). The games from when I was little that I remember the most had both elements, you both build and destroy in a fine balance. I wanted to create something like that. Also it has a very clear element of stress that I always enjoy in games.

Step into a world of epic fairy tales.

A Tale of Two Kingdoms is a fantastic adventure game made in the style of such venerable classics as King's Quest.

The ancient kingdom of Theylinn is beset by enemies both from within and without. Within the castle walls, nobles vie for the old King's favor, and not everybody is happy with the sole heir to the throne, princess Rhiannon.

Meanwhile, danger approaches, in the form of an invading army, a hostile giant, and a mercenary troop who are ancient enemies of the Theylann king. And there is mystery yet. For hidden within the borders of Theylinn lies a second kingdom, named Thierna na Oge, where the faeries reign. Little is known about this shrouded, exotic realm.

The playing atmosphere is full of magic and intrigue which is accompanied by a rich storyline and a great soundtrack. Overall this game is a very polished effort and a worthy tribute to classic adventure gaming.

This critically acclaimed game also features five different endings; multiple side quests and alternative solutions; teamwork mode with other characters; and even a director's commentary!

Save Your Beloved Penny

Tux and Penny were enjoying a lovely picnic on the ice fields of Antarctica when a shadowy creature stepped out from behind an ice bush and after a bright flash left Tux unconscious. When he awakens, Penny is gone and only a threatening note remains. Apparently Tux's mortal enemy, Nolok, has kidnapped his true love and whisked her away to his imposing fortress.

Help this intrepid penguin as he fights Nolok's minions and travels across the vast ice fields in search of his darling Penny. With gameplay similar to the classic Super Mario Bros., Super Tux presents an enjoyable gaming experience that gamers of any age can savor.

Classic Action

The gameplay itself is reminiscent of the classic side-scrollers of old. You control Tux with the arrow keys as you have him negotiate the various levels, avoiding the wide assortment of minions arrayed against him. Collect snowballs to double Tux's size or grab the red colored flowers to grant him some fire wielding abilities.

Jump on your enemies' heads to stomp them from the screen and collect coins in order to gain more points, or even an extra life. Find plenty of other Mario similarities such as hidden blocks, destroyable crates, the ability to run over small gaps by holding down 'run' and magic stars which make you temporarily invincible.

A Nostalgic Feeling

The similarities found in Super Tux with the classic games of old provide an entertaining gaming experience. Fans new and old can quickly pick up this title and be running and jumping in seconds as they work to complete all 26 levels. Experience some moments of nostalgia as you fight your way to the villain's castle and try to save your beloved with this amusing quest.

Journey to Finally Become a Wizard

For as long as he can remember, Mortimer Pibsworth has yearned to join the ranks of wizard-hood. His fixation led to an apprenticeship which, while exciting at first, has whittled down to little more than chores and household duties. A recurring nightmare now haunts his sleep and his spirits have fallen to all new lows. After falling out of bed in his sleep, Mortimer faces an entirely different morning...

Join the intrepid young apprentice as he sets out on a not so epic quest to collect the ingredients needed for his first spell. Explore a fantasy world full of wacky characters and experience all the elements of this endearing story.

A Classic Point-And-Click Adventure

Built with the Adventure Game Studio editor, Apprentice plays out like the classic Lucas Arts adventures of old. You navigate the various scenes simply by clicking your mouse and search for various items to be used in your quest.

Dialog is handled through the use of dialog trees and the full voice acting really helps to draw you into the story. Although there are some slight control issues, such as not being able to right click to alternate between actions, the inventory system is rather well implemented and fully compatible with the fantasy setting.

An Entertaining Story

With quite a bit of humor and some minor in-jokes, Pib's comments are sure to put a smile on your face as you meet a variety of quirky characters and scenes. The incredibly high production values help to draw you in and are reminiscent of the classic point-and-click adventures of the past. The music is very good, the cartoon style graphics are excellent, and the game is full of detail with nearly everything being clickable and verbally described.

Put some of your problem solving skills to the test as you try to decipher the various inventory based puzzles that you'll discover on your expedition. If you really get stumped, there is always the typical adventures' "try every item in the inventory on everything" strategy.

So if you are a fan of old style point-and-click adventures, download Apprentice and start Mortimer on his travels today!

Of course it seems too simple to be addicting. But that is the beauty of DX Ball. The simplicity means you don't have to spend hours climbing a learning curve before it is fun. You can download the game and have fun playing immediately... for FREE.

Witness the re-birth of Brick-breaking Games!

Why spend the rest of the afternoon learning a new game when you can get started with DX Ball right away. Enjoy power ups and other creative spins to this classic genre.

Some of the cool options in DX Ball are: Lasers, Grab Paddle, Fireball, Explosion, Extra Life, Grow Bricks, Next Level, Slow Ball, Through Ball and a few others you can find out by playing and downloading this game! Are you still reading? Download DX Ball and start having fun right away!
