Does Forsaken World still work? Every time I try to log on it does not let me. Comes up with some error.

Just looked at it and it is telling me the password or username is not correct. I did a reset on the password and had them send me the username. Both still do not work.

According to the forum the game is up and running. There was a recent patch on the 12th. It's still in closed beta. That's all I know for sure. I've uninstall that game but I can check on it sometime tomorrow to verify.

Yep. Looks like it went down in July. Will update the list.

Up And Coming Freeware Games

Blacklight: Tango Down 2

blacklight114.jpg

The sequel to Blacklight: Tango Down is going to lower the price in addition to the, uh, tango. Zombie Studios CEO Mark Long told Big Download that the sequel to the downloadable FPS, called just "Blacklight" for now, will be released under a free-to-play model, instead of the traditional one-time purchase fee attached to the original.

"The full game will be free along with premium content that can be purchased in-game," Long said. "Blacklight will feature a large number of improvements based on the player feedback we've gotten. And we hope going free-to-play will close that loop so we can respond even faster to player preferences." And hopefully give Zombie more resources (read: money) with which to implement those responses, no doubt.

The new game will use Unreal Engine 3, but won't use any assets from its predecessor. New weapons, new levels, and new "mech" vehicles will be featured -- the latter of which can be seen in the single released screenshot, above. Since it looks totally awesome, we're guessing that's going to be a microtransaction-based item.

Burning Thirst

Action/Platformer
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - No
Gamepad Support - Yes

Theme: Horror

Burning Thirst is an action game with brutal fighting, using contact weapons in a God of War style. Following a Grindhouse esthetical it is set in a post apocalyptic world.

In the game we play as Joe Blades, an ex aircraft pilot who survived the catastrophe. Our main object is to retrieve the last existing whiskey bottle, which is in Perdition City, under the custody of Bruce Krauser and his band of mutants. To get it back we’ll have to use all our extraordinary skills to finish with all the enemies who get in our way. There will also be the final battle in the city’s Casino.

The core mechanics consists in the linking of several attacks with a short and medium range weapon, which will allow us to get rid of several enemies all at once. We also have the option of doing special attacks or of finishing off enemies in an especially cruel way using fatalities.

I thought it might have been due to the closed beta and signed up for it but still have the same issue and used the beta code. Also Champions Online goes free to play the 25th from what I have read. You cand still get a gold membership for around 15-20 a month and get some extra stuff with it or pay the 200 bucks life time fee.

I added Champions Online back when they released the F2P demo version of it. The same with any other retail MMO that did the same like Star Trek. Also the recap videos cover all MMO news and they spoke about Champions Online going fully F2P.

As for that other game, some MMO companies do weird Beta phases like that where the game gets taken down randomly but I saw no info about that game being down on their site but up to date post where players were coordinating events and such. I have not had the time to install it but I will do so soon.

Life Time fees are crazy, IMO. Good luck to them and I hope this works out.

Super Spike Dislike

Do you ever get the feeling that a game is laughing at you? Every time I die in Super Spike Dislike, I get this image in my head of the game rolling on the floor, tears streaming down its face, red-faced with laughter.

But hell, do I keep playing. Super Spike Dislike is so simple, yet so utterly addictive. You press right to make a ball bounce over and under a series of spikeballs, and if you touch one, you lose. Along the way, if you manage to string together a combo of bounces, you'll receive some firepower which can be used to shoot the mines down, earning you even more points.

There are two paths to play through, along with a randomly generated path. You can also login and upload your scores through the game, and see how terrible you are compared to everyone else. Well... maybe that's just me.

Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch
Megazell's Top Pick

First Person Shooter
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - Yes

Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch is a new multiplayer game that aims to take Mega Man’s 8-bit style gameplay and turn it into an online multiplayer first person shooter. Everything you know and love from the classic series will appear in lovely 3d with 8-bit textures and sprites. You will be able to pick from any of your favourite Robot Masters from Mega Man 1 through 6, as well as find and use their weapons scattered around levels. With it’s intense battles, unique style, various game modes and huge amount of weapons and levels, MM8BDM is sure to please Mega Man and old school FPS fans alike. This is no fancy art project! Get your Mega Busters ready, this Skulltag powered mod is coming 2010!

Gameplay Modes

Deathmatch
Team Deathmatch
Last Man Standing (Randomly selected weapons)
Team Last Man Standing
Possession
Team Possession
Capture The Flag
One Flag CTF
Terminator
Duel
Instagib (All robots fire instant killing Metal Blades)

The game also has a single player campaign that is split into chapters, based on each Mega Man game. Each chapter takes you through all the standard maps with a predefined bot set up and boss battles. Between chapters you return to Dr. Light’s lab, where you can practice with weapons etc.

Megazell's Comment - Back in the early days of Half Life mods...there was this mod called 'Battle Of The Millennium.' It was a standard deathmatch mod but it allowed you to play as Superman, Batman Beyond, Goku, Spiderman, Spawn and Megaman. Megaman was one the best characters to pick because you could touch the bodies of the dead players and get one of their abilities. It was one of the most entaiting mods to play with some friends. This game right here brings a lot of that feeling back. There are matches where you will find yourself (for those that played the early Megaman games) 'ooooh, wow I forgot about him.' Him being one of the bosses you took on in the Megaman series.

Also there are mod packs and new stuff already out for this gem.

Project X started back in 2002 when our friend "Comedy Ha Ha" had the idea of making a sequel to Capcom's X-Men: Children of the Atom. He united with a small group of creators and enthusiasts in order to make the game a reality by use of the M.U.G.E.N game engine. The project was original found on the forum Warmachine Madness with a satellite site at cjb.net.

Over time Project X when through various periods of leadership at various locations on the internet eventually settling in the hands of X-Fields. With a combination of old team members, many new additions and the blessing of those who have helped in the past, this new fan created game is slowly coming to light, know as...

The Rebirth.

Xain D Sleena

Shooter/Platformer
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - No

Theme: Science Fiction

Xain D Sleena is an excellent platformer remake by X-Out, developer of the equally impressive Prototype. You assume the role of a soldier with a mission to save each of the five planets invaded by the enemy forces.

Each location consists of two equal parts. You have to fight your way to the enemy base station, detonate it and leave on your ship. The escape is basically a horizontal shooter stage with a boss in the last planet.

Plenty of options to tweak such as autofire, difficulty and image quality. Having to restart from a save point after losing all health may discourage a few players from playing much but fans of the original will cherish this remake.

Theme: Fantasy

Meat Boy is a challenging platformer created by the developer of Gish, Aether and Coil, where players assume control of a nimble protagonist who must scale the walls of each area and reach Bandaid Girl to complete a level. Use the cursor keys to move, and press the space key to jump. Wall jumps can also be executed by tapping the same key when hugging a wall.

Levels are grouped in sets of five, and players would only need to beat three areas out of every set to unlock the next five stages in the list.

Megazell's Comment - Make sure you have the latest Shockwave Player installed. This game goes great with Joy2Key and a gamepad. You can also get the map pack with 70 levels added to the original Meatboy game - http://www.newgrounds.com/downloads/flash/meatboymappack.zip

Yeah, Bloodline Champions is nice and it runs so smooth also.

About Bonesaw, did I post that it needed Joy2key? I just checked the post and I did not see it written there...or did I say that in a PM? In any case, BONESAW IS freaking awesome.

Nurse Quest

Adventure
Single Player - Yes

Theme: Love
Theme: Adult Humor

Smooth animation, 3D models, voice acting - these have all become staples of the point & click adventure genre. However, there will be a special place in my heart for retro-tastic games like Robot/Lizard's Nurse Quest: Love Hurts. One of the few point & click adventures available on Adult Swim, Nurse Quest will have you playing as Geoff Jefferson, a somewhat helpless nerd with an impossible affection for a hot nurse at the hospital.

Now, much like any other guy smitten with the woman of his dreams, Geoff wants to impress Nurse Julia and he wants to do it his own rather unique way. What exactly am I talking about? Simple. He wants to garner her approval by sustaining the most impressive injuries possible, of course! Er, yes. As you can imagine, this silly premise sets the stage for some rather outrageous scenarios. Needless to say, the humor in Nurse Quest is somewhat lowbrow but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. While I haven't seen anything grossly inappropriate just yet, you should probably avoid playing this at work. - IndieGames

Megazell's Comment - Still finding uses for my old database. While many games are no longer hosted there are some that I consider a must play. This is one of them a very short, Metroid-like game with old school challenges and animation. The author's site is no longer around so you can get the game from the second link. Side note - I just found a small shoe box of some old 8 Mb to 500 Mb flash drives with some freeware games that are no longer available on the web. Will be posting those as I go along. Very surprised they still work because they are long over the 10 year retention cycle. This game was not in one of those but seeing it on my database made me do some digging in my storage closet.

Arachnos

Shooter/Vertical
Single Player - Yes

Theme: Science Fiction

Arachnos is a really nice Gradius style spaceship shooter. You have all the standard weapons from Gradius including "Multiples", which are orbs that float by your ship and act as additional guns. There are multiple levels that have different graphics and end in a big boss battle. Some levels have a scrolling section where you can scroll the screen up and down. This game also surprised me by having enemies sometimes appear behind you. But they always indicate this with an arrow.

I also recommend checking the Config menu. This game has lots of configuration options. You can restart from an unlocked stage, difficulty level, lives and starting equipment. This game has two game modes. Item mode is when enemies drop powerups that immediately upgrade your ship when collected. Capsule mode is similar to Gradius where enemies drop capsules and you can select what powerup you want by pressing a key. This game also has a really neat ability to record a replay. At any point when watching the replay, you can press Esc and select "Play Here" to start playing the game at that point in the replay. - ReverseOrder

IN THE YEAR 4600 THE MUSICRACER LEAGUE IS ONE OF THE MOST PROMINENT RACING LEAGUES IN THE GALAXY.

THE RACING TRACKS ARE CREATED BASED ON A SPECTRUM ANALYSIS OF ANCIENT MUSIC FROM LONG FORGOTTEN CULTURES.

YOU ARE HEREBY GRANTED ACCESS TO A CLASSIFIED TRAINING SIMULATION.
PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE LEAGUE.

Megazell's Comment - You can load up any MP3 you own to this and just enjoy the game. The video below is on easy mode...when you go to medium or higher...you get the red glowies that subtract points and distort your view of the race track.

Pixel Force: Halo is the latest installment in Eric Ruth's
Pixel Force 8-bit de-make series. Much like the rest of
the series, this game serves as an artistic vision to depict
how the Halo series may have looked if it had been released
in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This game
is only a recreation of the original "Halo: Combat Evolved"
for the X-Box and of no other game in the series.

Megazell's Comment - This game is great and fun. Use Joy2Key and a gamepad to get the most out of it. This game has no background music but if you end it...you find out why.

The game is art, It's one of those games where half of the fun is simply exploring the world. Because of this, the author is always cryptic about the game, and there is very little media showing how Glum Buster plays.

Emblem of Red Reshuffle

Fighting
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - Yes

Theme: Fantasy
Theme: Martial Art

Emblem of Red Reshuffle is a fighting game by EXZAM that features eleven characters, each with their own set of basic and special moves shown at the player selection screen.

Most of the moves are pretty easy to pull off, but important combos can only be discovered through experimentation. Computer-controlled characters are just too eager to show you how a multiple-hit combo is done.

Sprites and backgrounds are serviceable though a little on the plain side. However, the gameplay is good enough to make up for it's graphical shortcomings and will not disappoint fans of fighting games.

Press the F4 function key to switch between window and full screen mode.

Gotta love snow days!

Going to upgrade Pixel Force's Halo to Top Pick. At first I did not give it such a title because it lacked background music...then I ended it and read the credits and totally understand why this was the case. So I'm changing it.
