Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

Yeah i didn't know who she was until I played this game and saw a youtube video of her speaking Japanese fluently. Wow I think I'm in love.

Damn Panzer. You wanna stop by my place and help me with my play through? I got beer.
I played the game like an asshole and had Quiet S rank everything for me. Most broken part of the game.

It's still a good 40-50 hours, though, and even then I'm now only sitting at 45%.

I'm grinding my way through Side Ops before I jump to mission 12. Fun stuff!

For mission 11:
Before reading about this technique to beat this mission, I had experimented with dropping supplies on troops to see what happens, but I kept on screwing it up with Quiet because I didn't mark her on my map after trying to crawl to her for 20 minutes. I ended up developing the tranq sniper rifle and took her out after experimenting with the regular sniper rifle. Little did I know that doing her full non-lethal was an objective. I guess I'll be doing that mission again...lolz.

Currently, I'm finishing up mission tasks since I'm at 70%. I still need to get around to collecting animals. Putting down cages before setting foot on a mission really helped out starting the collection.

So last night it took me an hour to finish mission 6. That damn honey bee rocket launcher was hard as hell for me to find. I'm not sure if it was because it was past midnight when I usually am in bed by then but I invested so much time in the mission I forced myself to find it before going to bed. The caves seemed endless to me.

The big difference in difficulty I've found is that compared to past MGS games, the stealth gameplay was easy to keep up with since the missions were more linear - you could see all of the enemies on screen. Now, with all the open space in MGS V, you have more enemies to worry about and enemies that easily go unnoticed, tend to spot you much easier therefore setting off the alert symbol. The hardest are the damn snipers on the cliffs.

And what is up with the shrapnel/horn sticking out of Big boss? I don't recall seeing it at the hospital scene where you get to see your reflection but later in the game it just suddenly pops up without using any specific scene to explain it. I wonder if that's intentional or not. My guess is yes?

So I was playing last night and hopped into the side-ops mission Extract the Lost Little Sheep - I swear I went through that entire village 3 times and could not find the thing anywhere - I ended up clearing out all of the guys, hoping on horseback, Ocelot says they may go to the wild.  Eventually I had to look up a guide to find it's in a feaking pen not 10 feet from where I entered the village.  I'm a dumbass!

In the hospital the doctor tells him he has shrapnel in the cerebral cortex and removing it would kill him. I think you don't see it at first because if I recall that part of his face is bandaged up.

Surprisinly I did that misson very stealthy. Don't know how I pulled it off. I remember throwing a magazine to distract the gaurds and sneaked past them in the caves.

Konami really needs to fix the shit servers when online.  Last night, I completed a mission, and while my results were loading and the game was accessing the online portion, the servers shit the bed.  I waited like 2 minutes and killed the application, relaunched, and loaded my save.  Came to find out that nothing had saved and I had to redo that specific mission all over again.

Such horse shit...although I did get a better ranking the second time around lol

So I finally took Quiet on a mission this morning and while I S-ranked it with no real trouble, I think I like using DD more.

Also, any tips to maxing the bond with D-Horse? I'm apparently three away and wouldn't mind wrapping up that trophy soon.

DD is better to me than Quiet. Being able to see all enemies and prisoners within 150 meters is invaluable. Not to mention able to stun riot guards or cause distractions if needed and costing far less to deploy.

To max out D-Horse; just complete missions with it and go around in free-roam completing side ops since D-Horse's bond raises the longer you ride it.

Ok, so this game is a lot more fun after the first few missions and start to figure things out though there's still a lot to figure out. I'm only 4% done even though I've probably put in 8+ hours and only finished the first 6 missions and a dozen side ops. I've been screwing around a lot and time just flies when you play this game... just played it for 2.5 hours without realizing it...

I got some questions if those of you've gotten a bit farther.

1. In missions that you replay, can you complete just some of the objectives and quit the mission and still keep the rewards from said objectives? I want to go back to the first real mission, and want to try to extract the 2 specialists (transport specialist and some soldier). If I go in and do those objectives and quit, do I get to keep those recruits?

2. Is there an easier way to get a transport specialist? I know he's one of the specialists in the first real mission but I cannot find him no matter what...

3. Besides D Horse, DD and Quiet are, there any other buddies you can use? When can you start using DD (he's still a puppy at my base) and Quiet?

4. Snake is all bloodied... how do I get new cloths?

1. No, you have to fully complete the mission for the objective to count. I'm unsure about the recruits.

2. Specialists are usually prisoners, interrogating a guard can reveal the location if that person is on site. If you don't get a specialist there, they might show up in other missions.

3. Last buddy is D-Walker. As for DD and Quiet, complete main missions and visit the base.

4. Besides showering at Mother Base, change your character or camo.

So I unintentionally kicked off the fight against
Quiet
by trying to get the blueprint for the stun arm.  I was just heading up there and it kicked off a cutscene.  I gotta say, it was pretty easy (though I didn't try for the incapacitate, only the kill).  I used
the bombardment option through my binocs - hit her with two of them and she was down for the count.
This game just keeps sucking me in.

I managed to get plat/100% completion on the game. I was surprised to see I finished with over 800K heroism.  Only thing that annoyed me was any mission task that involved listening to conversations since some wouldn't trigger normally.

Wow, good job. Meanwhile I'm sittin' over here with my measly 6%. I probably wont need to by another game for the rest of the year.

Wow, nice work. I'm at nearly 40 hours in and just about to do mission 20 tonight. Not gonna be even close to the plat
On this one, lol

LOL, I'm pretty much there with you - I'm at 7%. What's worse is that I finished mission 10, then went BACK and did it again because I wanted to get the prisoners out. Guess I'll see how this all ends sometime in 2017!

I'm at mission 14 and 18%. I pretty much have all the side-ops done except for target practice. Those are going to suck bad.

Aw, thank you both. :) If anyone wants advice on a mission, feel free to ask.

Whoever decided that

The Sahelanthropus fight would have zero checkpoints is fucking stupid.  Had him down to a sliver of health and then one of those reflex points showed up while I was reloading...and in the process of that I managed to walk backwards off a small cliff and die.  No way I am replaying that...

Just wait til the extreme version, lol. My biggest trouble with the reflex part is that I carried nothing but grenade/rocket launchers so id have to keep backing up and hope my splash damage didn't kill me (which it did, twice...)

Lol, I ended up beating it (regular battle) Friday night on my first try and then traded the game to BB yesterday for $42.

I somehow unlocked mission 45 and thought I was stuck and got something locked out of the game permanently. Re-did a couple earlier missions to see if there were any issues from unlocking 45 and turns out there weren't any. Now I can go back to doing all the side objectives for all the missions with ease.

I have to admit that part of me wants to just blow through the rest of the game just to finally beat it since I already got spoiled on a couple things, but the twists were kinda predictable.

Am I the only one that hates mission 22?

No checkpoints at all (not even at the start, so you need to re-watch the intro scene every time) makes it such a PITA. I've now gotten past the first two platforms and 1/2 way through the third twice then failed... either b/c I can't figure out how to go any higher and end up getting caught/killed or accidentally dying b/c I fall from too high of a place.:bomb:

Just picked it up this afternoon since MGO comes out on Tuesday. Was really hoping I would be able to wait until it went on sale or maybe BF but I really wanted to play and was tired of waiting for a sale to hit.

Damn this game lol. I have been doing mission 6 for the last 4 hours now. Kept getting spotted and destroyed by the chopper. Finally made a rocket launcher so im ready to blow that sucker out of the sky. Worst part that is taking me forever is i am at the end and cannot find the damn bee thing. The guy who was supposed to tell me either died or i set him down somewhere and i cant find him LoL. Either way i cleared the base but it will probably respawn and im really screwed then.

A question about the post-game:

After defeating Skullface/Sahelanthropus in Mission 32; you get a credit roll, only to then get a preview of the "second half" of the game, along with an additional 28 or so missions.
I guess my question is this: does the second half of the game have an actual overarching story to it? Is there a new story to tell, or do they just explore smaller character moments throughout? I noticed alot of the new missions are just remixes of previous missions; unless there is a good incentive to play them again, I wasn't especially interested in doing so.

[customspoiler='Answer to post-game question: ']Chapter 2 continues the story with a few more events and eventually leads to the real ending of the game.[/customspoiler]

Keep going into the underground and you should find some Intel that shows where it is - it'll be around the underground open area. Just remember that splash damage is your friend.

I found it finally lol. I must have walked by it a thousand times. Then i tried to leave and got a holy s*it moment on the way out lol. I havent played a mgs game since mgs 2 and i didnt play much of it but i didnt have anything to play right now and picked this up. Wow i am glad I did. The sheer crazy things that happen are incredible. I dont know many people who play the same way. I thought i would hate the planning and scouting but it has a calming effect like mining in mass effect did for me. Like the calm before the storm. Ive done quite a few side ops and you plot them all out and 90% of the time they go to hell in a hand basket but when you finally nail one it is the most satisfying feeling ive had in a game in a long time.

1.04 Update History:

-Added “Metal Gear Online”

-Additional Features and Enhancements for FOB missions”
The following notification covers the details of an update to METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN, scheduled for distribution on Tuesday, October 6th, 2015. Many new specifications have been added or improved upon, largely focusing on FOB Missions. This will be an ideal opportunity for newcomers to try their hand at infiltrating FOBs!

New "Event FOB" missions added!
Until now, only the FOBs of rival players could be infiltrated, but following this update you will have access to special "Event FOBs" prepared by the game developers.

In "Event FOB" missions, there is no risk of retaliation (no defending player will invade your base later as revenge), so you can steal materials and abduct staff without fear of repercussions.

FOB insurance service begins!
Your FOBs are always at risk of coming under attack. Now, you can rest easy with FOB insurance (paid service). If you sign up for insurance, then during the insurance period you will be compensated for any materials and staff lost due to rival infiltrations.
* Staff/materials stolen by the rival will in fact remain on your base, and an identical amount of staff/materials will be handed over to the rival instead.
* MB Coins are purchased with real money, but free MB Coins are also distributed periodically as login bonuses, etc.
* The following are not covered by FOB insurance:
・Staff/items that are not fully your property, such as abducted staff being held in your Brig (FOB)
・Wounded staff (staff lost due to death or extraction will be compensated)
・Staff used by you to deploy in defense of the FOB (neither death nor extraction will be compensated)
 ・Nuclear weapons

New and improved missions for Combat Deployment (Online)! Rewards also get a huge boost!
Get ready for a broader, more varied range of missions available in Combat Deployment (Online). The rewards will diversify to match!
Some missions may reward you with extremely high-rank soldiers, and others may provide rare medicinal plants such as Haoma and Digitalis (Lutea).
Additionally, the time it takes your units complete their mission can be shortened using MB Coins.
* MB Coins are purchased with real money, but free MB Coins are also distributed periodically as login bonuses, etc.
* Deployment time can only be shortened in Combat Deployment (Online) missions. Normal offline missions cannot be shortened.

New equipment added! A higher level of performance... Grade 7!
New weapons and items are on the way, to give you that added edge in missions. Additionally, where the highest possible grade of equipment was previously Grade 6 (★6), following the update you will have access to development projects of Grade 7 (★7)!
The following are just a few of the new weapons on offer.

Night vision equipment can now be developed for your Security Team staff!
You will now be able to develop special NVGs for your security guards, to give them an advantage against night-time invaders and vision-restricting tactics such as smoke grenades. Don’t miss this opportunity to maximize the abilities of your Security Team.

Infiltrate without leaving a trace!
If you avoid being spotted by enemies, and refrain from killing/extracting staff and damaging/extracting containers and equipment, you can now play all the way through an FOB infiltration without the rival player being notified.
Enjoy this added thrill to your FOB Missions!

FOB expansion time reduction now available!
Constructing new platforms for your FOBs takes a long time, but now you can use MB Coins (paid service) to purchase time reduction and speed things up!
The more platforms on your FOB, the more difficult it will be for a rival to infiltrate unseen.
* MB Coins are purchased with real money, but free MB Coins are also distributed periodically as login bonuses, etc.

Improvements to on-screen UI elements and point scoring!
Following the update, there will be certain improvements to the way data is displayed on menus such as the Controls and Results screens; for example, detailed breakdowns of espionage points earned or damage suffered due to your FOB being infiltrated. Look forward to a tighter, more refined FOB Mission experience.

GMP and materials limits are greatly increased online!
Following this update, the maximum amounts of GMP and materials you can possess will be much higher than before, as additional amounts can now be stored online by the server.
* You will need to be online to make use of GMP or materials amounts that exceed the local limit (the limit when playing offline).
* While offline, you will not be able to make use of GMP or materials stored on the server.

Other changes
Improvements have also been made to other elements, including PF Rating, which indicates the strength of your Mother Base, and sort functions on the mission deployment prep screen.
Also, for auto-assigning staff to units, an option for prioritizing the Security Team has been added, to make FOB Missions even easier to enjoy. Various balance adjustments and bug fixes have been implemented as well.

PSA: Don't install the update if you want to keep your resources and vehicles. There's no way to liquidate them for GMP once they go on the server.

What a fucking mess this game is turning out to be. It's almost as if Konami wants to burn every last bit of goodwill it has for the game.

Been playing MGO a lot. First day was smooth and didn't see much lag. Yesterday I seen a ton of people CQC me when I thought I hit them first and also seen a ton of people get shot run 2-3 steps then die. Hopefully it's just all the traffic from the first couple of days. I really like the concept, hopefully they ad more game modes.

I don't think it's going to change considering the matchmaking is P2P. :???:

Is there any disadvantage from deciding to upgrade my main command center over my FOB's?  The cost of the additional platforms are higher on my main command center than my FOB so I was thinking about using my resources into upgrading the FOB's before maxing out (level 4 platforms) on my mother base command center.

From what I understand, building the platforms only helps to increase my diamond dogs capacity so if I were to upgrade #2 on my FOB over my #4 mother base, I still get the same benefit - it's just cheaper to do so.

No disadvantage. Building the FOB platforms to 3/4 will cost the same as any 4/4 Mother Base development. However; at 4/4, the FOB costs are more than a 4/4 Motherbase if iirc.

Thanks. The GMP isn't a problem but it's easy to eat up the material resources.

Ok so I'm stuck on the disease outbreak portion. I know it's the
Kikongo language
but as I quarantine my staff it's still killing off my army one by one (albeit slowly). I must be missing somebody but I went through my entire staff and I still don't see it. It's annoying because it takes so long to go through your entire roster. I decided to move onto the main missions in case the code talker will help with the cure since I imagine that's going to frustrate anybody without the guide. I usually check my guides when I'm stuck with my missions but I've finished mission 28 in which I've rescued the code talker. Now I'm about to start the next mission so I'm hoping that's what stops my infection.

Even if you get everyone, the people that are quarantined will die one by one. If more are dying, it's usually the people in the brig which you really can't do anything about. So just do main missions, asap.

Thanks for the peace of mind. That really sucks my elite soldiers are dying =(

Is the Mosquito event under the Events tab of the FOB an online 1v1 mission? What do you get from it?  I'm trying to crank through the campaign before playing any online but it looks like it's a limited time event only.

Can you fulton helicopter?
Nope. It's odd considering you could do that in Peace Walker. :???:

The event is you versus a low level AI base and there is no retaliation if you get caught. As far as actual rewards from completing the event---there are none. It's just there as an intro to FOB invading.

On the other-hand, it's an alternate way to farm some online materials depending on which base structure is invaded. Ex) R&D giving diamonds when reaching the core.

Thanks, Supplice.

Ok so I'm basically at the end of this game. Finally! I've been playing this since Day 1 the amount of content on this game is huge. One thing I don't like is how the main missions include repeats of what you did in Chapter 1 with modifiers (i.e. total stealth, extreme setting). I was confused why I was replaying some of the missions and I thought initially they were just starting out as flashbacks. It's kind of confusing and I think they should have just been moved over to Side Ops instead. It misleads gamers like me thinking that you have to go through all of them because apparently at least some of the harder ones (i.e. the extreme boss battles) I found out that you don't have to complete them even though they are listed in the main missions list. I finished the Truth chapter (mission 46) and wow it all makes more sense now. Another peeve is how it jumps all over the place towards the end. I have yet to finish 47 - 50 and I still haven't unlocked 45. Do I just do more side ops to unlock 45? Seems dumb that side ops can or cannot be mandatory to proceed. Same for the main missions. I enjoyed mission 46. Nice twist. Almost there!
