Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

I have yet to finish 47 - 50 and I still haven't unlocked 45. Do I just do more side ops to unlock 45? Seems dumb that side ops can or cannot be mandatory to proceed. Same for the main missions. I enjoyed mission 46. Nice twist. Almost there!
Max out your bond with Quiet which should unlock Side Op 150. If it's maxed, then take off the butterfly emblem if it's on. Anyway, completing Side Op 150 will unlock mission 45. :)

Great, thanks.

So I just viewed the Mission 45 Quiet ending last night.  I already saw Mission 46's truth ending too.  After doing a search, I watched the CE episode 51 uncompleted ending and saw the hidden nuke disarmament ending as well.  Aside from those 4 endings, is there anything else I'm missing to watch?  I'm going to skip missions 49 and 50 since I think I've unlocked all of the endings but if there's another ending to unlock with those two missions then let me know (I think this goes to Supplice since you're the only one in this thread that has gone this far lol)

So now that I've "finished" the game and I'm going to try out MGO.  Hopefully it's good because I'd like to keep up with this game but if not I'll just trade it in and continue with the next upcoming games for the holidays.

Nothing else comes from completing those two missions besides emblems. Congrats on completing it! :D

Just finished. If they do make MGS5 without Kojima, hope they keep the gameplay from this one.

Remember, Kojima said no true Solid sequel would be without a number at the end(or go unnumbered, forgot the wording). And it's obvious what the V is about once you beat it. Giant Bomb Spoilercast on MGS explain it a little more if your lost. Just their theory, but......Kojima.

Asking for small spoiler, are there other locations than Mother Base and Afghanistan? I don't know, facilities complex, laboratories, mystic lands or even hell, whatever? After 16 hours of playing the same locations I get bored. Opening level was great but too short.

Is it just me or was this unsatisfyig? For core entries in the series this is my least favorite. It wasn't a bad game but I just felt unsatisfied.

Course it didn't help by the 100th time I was sick to death of flying in on the helicopter to the same areas over and over again to do one of 9 different missions.

But the story over all just felt flat and uninspired. It started out well enough but declined and never picked back up. Some of it just made no sense or seemed pointless. But mostly I didn't like any of the characters really.

Maybe I was just expecting more of a send off to the series and dissapointed myself.

I got to around mission 18 or so and I got bored. I want to keep going I am just getting sick of planning everything then getting spotted and waiting 15 minutes for them to forget about me

Im at 71% complete now. Doing side missions is becoming a bore! But i need to push on! My base is fully upgraded for both online and offline. I think i only have a couple of weapons to upgrade. Need to go back and get some specialists i missed out the first time. So the weapons gets unlocked. Im mission 40. Dont want to go forward due to the sequence if events that will happen once i start mission 41. Hehe!

I got through mission 31 (which as far as I'm concerned is the game's ending since there's credits and whatnot) but wasn't interested in doing anything after that. It was fun but I was glad to trade it in and be done with the game. Definitely got boring with the same areas, enemies, etc.

Yep, that's what killed it for me. I have no patience. If I royally fuck up a mission I tend to put the controller down and have little motivation to pick it back up. And I tend to fuck up a lot of missions.

There's actually more story after 31 and I wouldn't say that is the ending to the whole game. Probably the ending to the saga with
Skulface.
I agree that the two areas can get boring after awhile. They're big maps but after a while they just felt old. Wish there were about two more different locations or something.

I had a blast though but fuck i spend forever plotting and make one mistake and i might as well just start the whole mission over. Its easier than waiting for them to go back to original patrol

Just finished the game last night and it felt like a letdown. The game felt incomplete and I think Kojima needed more time but Konami was unwilling to give it to him.

So, I finished chapter 31 and am wondering if I should continue...

I have Fallout 4 coming and the Nathan Drake Collection waiting for me. I know everyone is gonna clamor over FO4 but I'd rather wait a bit so that they can patch some of the major issues/bugs (you know it's coming). Uncharted was arguably my favorite series of last gen so I am absolutely amped to replay all 3 games after seeing it in person.

I checked my stats for this game and saw that I put in 82 hours into the SP and only 46% done. I cannot believe I spent that much time on this game and I'm not even done. I don't think I spent more than 70 hours on Fallout 3 and its expansions. I feel like MGSV is gonna end up being forgotten... I mean, I've been having a ton of fun with it and it just seems to get better, but I just don't feel motivated to keep playing.

Chapter 2 is pretty short. Most of the missions are repeated older mission but made harder. You don't have to play them either, just play the one with the yellow dots to advance the story and if you can't advance the story any further just complete some side ops to unlock more story line missions. I counted and there's only 7 new missions that are new for chapter 2 and you really only need to complete 5 of them to see the true ending.

Awesome, thanks for that info. I was just wondering that... the repeat missions are much harder than expected even with some heavily upgraded equipment.

Sucks to hear your impressions about the game overall though I've the same (at least, regarding the story). I read that a lot of the story is done through the tapes and just checked and noticed I had 99 tapes that haven't been listened to. No gonna bother going through all those. I think I'll finish the main missions and just read the synopsis.

The Hamburgers of Kazuhira Miller set is great.

Gameplay is very good though it's just the story that is very lacking and I kind of expected more in the story since it's Kojima last game.

That's just it, the story is there... it's in the tapes. I started listening to some of them and it's pretty interesting. It's not in cutscene or conversation format and after seeing the series' story presentation progression from the original MGS to MGSIV, yes, it is a letdown that you only get tapes in MGSV but it might be fitting given the time setting that the is mostly in vocal format.

Thinking back to MGSIV's story, it was mind-blowing amazing... this is nowhere near as good though.

I havent really enjoyed one since mgs2 myself but i really like this one. Just got burned out. I will pick it back up and keep going through. I just know since i have mostly bad grades on every mission i will probably never see the real end or whatever people are saying it keeps going.

It isn't tied to ranks. To see the true ending (Mission 46): complete all story missions excluding [Extreme, Subsistence, Total Stealth versions], complete all core side ops (yellow marked), and upgrade Mother Base to at least level 3 or higher on all platforms.

About the ending:

So I completed the game and the timeline that scrolls after Venom Snake walks into the smoke is different from the one I saw on youtube. My timeline ended with skull face is killed and not Big Boss dies like the one I see on youtube. How do I unlock the alternative prologue?

If you play some leftover missions, a new arc will pop up with more missions.

Oh, that's it? I also thought it was tied to the rankings. Shit, I'm almost there then... only got a few missions left.

Oh a site note, I was wondering why I didn't see the main missions (yellow dotted ones) and it's b/c there are important side ops I need to finish. Wish they would have mentioned that.

No matter how I feel/what I tell myself, any time I play this time I just can't help but mess around. It's just damn fun. I literally needed to extract 1 individual (for a important side op), which I was able to do in like 4 minutes and then ended up clearing out the whole base. LOL

Man, thats how most of my side ops go! I only need to extract a prisoner or get a skilled enemy to recruit and end up tranq and futtoning everyone that has a decent stats (A upwards). Actually enemies in side op missions tend to have better stats than main missions! I like doing armored soldier side ops coz mostly all of those armored enemies will have great stats. Still at 71% complete. Been playing 2k16 the last couple of weeks. Hehe! Need to go back to mgsv!

I hit 100% and got a plat sometime last week and traded it in to BBY for $43.20, which was $0.24 less than what I bought it for at Walmart due to a price error. Go me! :D I don't remember what the final timer was, but I spent like an hour letting it idle almost every night to do Combat Ops or develop gear so the final count is kind of a wash for me.

In hindsight, the best way to go through the game with minimal headache's is to stealth in the beginning and just go rambo if you get caught or reload the checkpoint. The penalty for killing and restarting is basically non-existent(maybe 10k GMP off your score?) because the main factor in s-ranking is time. Most missions can be completed in less than 10 minutes if you get in and get out. You only need to develop maybe 8 or so items as well. For the side objectives, I'd wait until beating the game unless you need the GMP or resources. Fultoning animals and dropping cages will also help with GMP along with building heroism points and knocking down the Collectors trophy/achievement. Throw in a few Side Ops between missions and you should be in pretty good shape as you approach Chapter 2.

Make sure you build up the parasite suit and armor parasites to equip before Side Op 150 to save yourself some headaches.

Yeah you will enjoy the game more if you're not that paranoid about getting caught because the penalty is not that bad. You can still S rank mission with an alert.

The latest patch fixes the resource farming exploit (fulton X containers in X mission > abort to ACC after checkpoint) in order to get more people to participate in FOBs. Also, you can replay a certain mission seven times to get a certain character back.

Wish i knew about that resource exploit. I was grinding nonstop to get fuel resources! But not anymore since i maxed out on upgrades. Hehe! Glad they finally patch the game to get a character back. I can finally do mission 41 without worrying! Hehe

I wouldn't sweat it. I didn't farm at all and I had plenty of resources to the point of selling them for GMP. Glad they patched the character back in though.

Yeah once i maxed out on bases, I was actually just letting my staff farm for the resources and selling excess for GMP. Those damn upgrades are expensive. There were nights il just leave my ps4 running and buy morning i would have enough resources for another upgrade.

I enjoyed the game and would recommend it.  The gameplay is quite different in how the open world structure gives you so much freedom that you really can accomplish any mission in a multitude of different ways.  Having played the prior MGS games, out of habit I played with an emphasis on stealth.  The problem with traditional MGS players is that the wide open landscape makes stealth play much more challenging since you can be spotted from a 360 degree angle now.  I think if you're an impatient player and don't mind the rankings, you're better off just blazing through rambo style as soon as you get detected.  The game isn't very hard on an action level since the AI isn't as good at chasing you down.  I think the game's difficulty is on a stealth level.  The mother base metagame was a smart inclusion as it helped the pacing of the game as a perfect compliment.

With that said, a lot of the story is left on the cassettes and I think most people just usually skip those (even I myself didn't bother to listen to certain tapes).  So it's understandable most people felt the story was shafted since we're accustomed to full blown cut scenes but I think it's a reasonable compromise given that the criticisms of MGS games are the story scenes were too long in the past.  I think they should have highlighted the importance of the cassette tapes better though.  As for the ending, the main message to get was that it wasn't so much as Big Boss being the legend as it was YOU the player.  The end scenes kept going back to that point and hammered at it but some people may have gotten too caught up with the other plot reveal in missing the point.

Some of my gripes was how the chapter 2 sequence was a lot of rehashes of prior missions which should have been better laid out as optional since everybody assumes the main missions are required when they aren't.  Same goes for the side ops.  I thought it was a little clunky that I had to look up how to progress the main storyline by having to do what I thought were optional missions.  It was very obvious that Kojima's team had more missions in mind since some significant plot details were left on the cutting room floor.  Chapter 2 could have had more stuff to it but from a total content perspective, MGS V had a lot of production value given it's MSRP cost.  I don't think they emphasized the importance of mother base enough since I could see some people ignoring it as well even though I had a lot of fun maintaining my own mother base.  I found myself constantly checking for when the next opportunity was to expand my home base.

I would still rank MGS III at the top of the list since the gameplay and story content of part III was a perfect mix.  So I would put this at #2 as follows:

MGS III > MGS V > MGS IV > MGS Peacewalker > MGS II > MGS

This was very worthy of a MGS designation but not quite the cream of the crop.  Many thanks to Kojima and his team.  I have the utmost respect for his work and hell, I adore them for what they've created.  I'm still upset about the Silent Hills cancellation and will keep a close eye on his team's next project.

I didnt like listening to cassettes too specially the long ones. I get bored easily. Would have been nice if there were at least some visuals besides the player. Thats one of main gripe i have with this game. The cutscenes were obviously awesome but i really would have like more of it even if some maybe just slideshows.

It helps to listen to them in free-roam when going for resources or soldiers.

Here's what my ranking of the series are:

1. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater

2. Metal Gear Solid

3. Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain

4. Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker

5. Metal Gear Solid 4

6. Metal Gear Solid 2

After playing Fallout 4 a little bit I really can see the difference and appreciate the 60fps in Phantom Pain. Movement in Phantom Pain was way more fluid and felt more natural than Fallout 4.

Ok, this is driving me nuts. Key missions stopped showing up for me and in trying to figure out what was going on, I found out I need to do side ops 150 (also had much of the remaining story ruined for me). I was hoping to have this game finished days ago but I cannot unlock side ops 150.

Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn't beaten the game!

I've got max bond with Quite and I've done all the other yellow marked missions/side ops, and even did some of the extra hard missions. Still nothing. The only thing I've found is that I need to see Huey exiled... I can't get that to work. I've done extra missions, listened to all the important tapes... nothing. I've only gotten a tape where Huey is caught so I'm guessing I have to do something else, maybe another mission, before it unlocks. Those missions are a huge PITA... I've finished two now where I had to do them 2 or 3 times b/c as I try to get out of the hot zone, I get caught by some cheap-shot patrol solders that just appear.

Wish they made this clearer but maybe this is just the sign of how Kojima was forced out.

EDIT* Figured it out.

You need to finish a mission before you get the message, come back to base and get the scene. Now the missions are available. Finally.

If your bond is maxed, take off the butterfly emblem if you have it. Make sure main missions 32, 35, 38, 41, & 43 are completed. If not, then my best guess is to complete some side ops.

I figured it out... did everything right but needed to finish a mission so that Snake gets called back to the base b/c of such and such. That got me the scene and opened up the key side op.

Beat this a few days ago... the ending was... ok. It's kinda nice to see some of the breaks in the story get tied out but it definitely felt unfinished/rushed.

More than anything, this game makes me wanna replay MGS, 3 and IV (I can live without 2).

Funny, after beating the game, I want to play the original Metal Gear. It would've been awesome if we had a remake in Fox Engine with gameplay from V. 3 is still my favorite overall though. It just seems the most fleshed out. 4 was kinda fun, but didn't blow my mind.

I played a few more missions and as before, I ended up spending 2x as much time doing shit as I wanted to.

My Nathan Drake Collection Press Kit finally came today (after 20 freaking days in customs) and I finally decided to put the game down. Logged in something like, 110 hours I think... I honestly can't say I've spent that much time in a game in forever.. the last game I logged a ton of time in was Xenoblade and even that was only 65 hours.

Even though the concept of the game isn't original or anything, it was so well done. This would have been a much more fun game as a new IP, I would have rather had a normal MGS game with 5 hours of gameplay and 10 hours of story but with all of that said, it's was a damn fun time Venom Snake.
