Well with right now being December 11, that only means 9 days until this launches.

From Wikipedia.

Weather reports and forecasts can be downloaded onto the console from the Internet via the WiiConnect24 service. The Forecast Channel displays a view of the Earth, with which users can view weather in other regions. A brief outline of weather conditions appears on this channel's icon in the Channels menu. The Forecast Channel will first be available on December 20, 2006.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_Channels#Forecast_Channel

It also says it on Wii.com

So is anyone somewhat excited? Well you know, as excited as one can be to access weather on your Wii.

I'm excited (to that certain level of course!). Being able to go on your Wii and seeing the weather and what's going on fore the week just makes the Wii just a bit different then the rest. (And then with the news channel coming next month)

But one thing that has me wondering: Will some games out there (i.e. Animal Crossing, The Sims, Harvest Moon) implement this feature into some games? IMO, it seems like a good idea. I mean, why not use a simple feature that involves checking out the weather of the day and using into a game?

Personally, I'd love to see it used in some games. The catch would be that it should be an option that you can turn on and off. I mean I guess having a game like Animal Crossing it wouldn't quite be fair to say.. people who live in Miami who want to try and build snowmen since it'll probably never snow in Miami (if it has, no need for corrections. You get what I mean!).

Well, what do YOU think?

Sweet, thanks! My daughter was just asking me when this was going to be active. I told her the 27th (pulling a date out of...). I think the kids will have fun with this for a bit (the spinning globe, being able to look anywhere, etc). But I'm not sure it will have too much long-term interest.

Yeah, the use of weather in AC would be interesting, but I'd definitely want more variety. It rarely snows here (otherwise pretty good season matching with AC as it is now). But I'm sure there's some creative way to use the data beyond a literal use of the weather for the current day.

You didn't pull the 27th out of the you-know-where ;)

The 27th of JANUARY is when the News Channel comes out. That, I can't see happening in any of the games. I don't think a story involving a serial rapist and video games will go together. (But would make for a very interesting game!)

That spinning globe REEKS of ADD. It looks like a ton of fun........for about 5 minutes and I probably won't spin the globe again for another 7 months.

Indeed - but it appears I was mixing up the News channel date, so it wasn't *quite* pulled from there ;).

Ah, but you aren't a 4, 7, or 10 year-old kid are you? ;)

ps - Liboo, I believe you are still gray on my Wii list. Add me or perish!

Oh I never knew you added me, lol

I am headed out the door in a few for work.. :whistle2:(....(that left a bad taste in my mouth, cries) I'll add you when I get home :)

Obviously you've never used Google Earth.

16+ months of useless spinning, it never gets old. Or maybe you didn't want to know what the weather is like in Istanbul or Barbados everyday. :)

I hope it has as detailed levels of visuals as GEarth can have.

It may be helpful if I decide to go fishing in the spring/summer while playing a game, and go to the Wii Menu. Hell.. nowadays, you have to wait 20 minutes for the weather channel to show a local forecast thanks to their dumbass weather related TV shows. I miss the days when the Weather Channel mainly.. you know.. televised forecasts.. instead of a show about a dog getting rescued off of the roof of a flooded house or something.

If they implement real weather in games it would rule - there are so many possibilities... Imagine being able to play any game that has an outside in the same conditions that are actually outside. Sports games, adventure games, RPGs, etc. It would be so cool!!!

Is it wrong that I’m excited just because I hate having a non-functional Wii Channel taking up shelf space? Honestly though, while it’s not exactly the functionality that sold me on the system, I’m happy to know I’ll be able to check the weather via my Wii in scant days.

And speaking of adds, io, I think you’re still grey on my Wii list.

As a news and weather junkie, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing both channels go live.

I hope the Forecast Channel lives up to the video demo with the globe spinning as fast as it did in the video.

While it would be interesting to see if Animal Crossing Wii (saw a Fall 2007 launch date somewhere) makes use of the channel. Heck, I'm looking forward to seeing how AC makes use of any Wii features especially after reading some interview with one of the programmers about possibilities. On the other hand, it's a nice feeling to sit and play AC:WW and it be sunny in the town I created while it is raining outside for real.

I wonder how tweakable the News Channel will be.

Hopefully the Internet Channel will open up when the Forecast Channel opens.

[smartass]Or you could, you know, actually go outside and play sports in those conditions.[/smartass]

But seriously, as a certified weather weenie, I am jonesed for the weather channel....It does make makes me wonder if Nintendo will face a lawsuit from the ORIGINAL Weather Channel (TM)?

One thing's for sure...No MILFs on the Wii version.

io, I finally JUST added you back.. lol sorry.
It's such a pain in the ass to do!!

Anyway.. hooray 8 days!

I wonder what time? What time do the VC games usually come out on Mondays???
I wonder what time? What time do the VC games usually come out on Mondays???
5 minutes before the Wii Store groans and dies under the load.

well....its certainly better than not having a weather channel!

but what the hell took so long? jeez.

same with the news channel, out with them already!

Can I get the local weather on this and I mean I put in my area code and it gives me the weather like accuweather, because I already have the forecastfox plugin on my firefox browser, and well this would be pointless for me without local weather but no one sayd if I can get local, if I can it would fucking rule.

I hope they don't implement a "It's a Beautiful Day! Go Outside!" thing that makes the system stop working.
oh wait I already have that its called my mom.

Wii Sports already does something like that. It just tells you to take a break if you've been playing for awhile.
Wii Sports already does something like that. It just tells you to take a break if you've been playing for awhile.
That picture makes me laugh every time. It's just something about the remote on the table and the curtains gently blowing.

LOL, I was thinking about that too!

Man, Nintendo REALLY has their asses covered with all these warnings about the remote, your surroundings, and even to actually stop playing the damn Wii!
That picture makes me laugh every time. It's just something about the remote on the table and the curtains gently blowing.
You're kidding? I've never seen such a thing - guess I haven't been overdoing it ;). How long do you have to play for this to come up?
You're kidding? I've never seen such a thing - guess I haven't been overdoing it ;). How long do you have to play for this to come up?
Not long I have played like for 15-30 minutes and got the little popup but it is random most of the time, kinda useless. Oh and back to the original topic, does the weather channel have local weather (like I put in area code and get my local weather?)
It should come up after about 15 minutes in Wii Sports.

I've seen it a ton of times.
Wierd, I've played for WAY longer than that and have never seen it. I've seen the "why don't you take a break with + button" at the START of a few games - but no picture.

The forecast channel is one I plan to put a LOT of time into, same for the internet and news channels. The Opera browser is the channel I want most, though...but the forecast channel will be great.

I honestly can't wait for this feature. I was bummed that it wouldn't be available at launch, but some things are worth waiting for.

Yes, I'm very excited about the weather.

That's the one everyone is talking about. There's also a picture that you're not noticing, in the same blue and white scheme of the "move objects" picture, of aWii remote on a round table with a window on the right, open, curtains gently drifting in the air.

Ah, well the "take a break" one that I see seems to be in the beginnings of games. And I ain't never seen no window with curtains.

I thought people were saying that right in the middle of a game it tells you to take a break. The message I'm seeing is more of a "controller tips and tricks" note upon startup - just telling you that you can pause with the + button (which I did not know at first). I'd like to see this window one though. I'll keep an eye out for it next time.

This is an incredibly bad/quick photoshop job with very limited resources, but some enterprising individual needs to make this a reality:

Hell. Maybe I'll do something like this over the holiday....

I'll buy one! Though I swear I've never seen anything like that and am starting to think you people are playing some elaborate hoax on me. After all, you're not paranoid if everyone is really out to get you.

Anyway, back on topic - weather, yeah, cool, soon, nice. Can't wait.

Nintendo can have my ass. It is basically their's anyway.

Come for me, Nintendo. Assimilate me into your mighty breast.

Also if you could give me money to do something for you, that'd be pretty toasty as well.

BAD. ASS. I'd wear that shit all the time if it came in black (and actually existed).

I swear that picture looks like someone came INTO the room through the window and gently placed a Wiimote on the table. Perhaps it was the Wii Fairy?
I swear that picture looks like someone came INTO the room through the window and gently placed a Wiimote on the table. Perhaps it was the Wii Fairy?
hehe.

I know I've seen bumbper stickers about the Rapture or something where it says, "Car will be unoccupied." That's almost what this looks like, that the person just got whisked away. Maybe we need a warning sticker, "In the event of the Rapture, this Wiimote will be uncontrolled."

Nintendo should have a warning about that before I turn on my Wii too.

That picture makes me paranoid. Do you know what I had to go through to get a second Wiimote? Now some douchebag can just reach in my window and take it? Hell to the no!

;)
Can't wait, is there local weather as of I enter my area code and get weather?
That's how it'll probably be.
I'm pretty sure that you put your zip code in.. and when your NOT in forecast channel (as in your just on the channels screen) the forecast channel should have the current temperature displayed. Not sure if it's current + the low, but I saw a picture before and it had 2 numbers. Could be "right now" and "tomorrow"....so ::shrugs::

Would be nice if this had more detailed info than just current high/low and whether it's rainy, sunny, or whatever. I'm not expecting WeatherBug or anything, but we'll see.

For me, the usefulness of this channel is directly tied to its loading time. If I can check the weather in less than 3 seconds, I'll do it all the time. But if I'm stuck waiting 10 seconds like with the Mii channel, then it won't get used.

Well, you'll be able to get the basic current conditions (high/low temp., rain/sun/etc.) without even entering the channel. So by that measure, it's already met your requirements. ;)

Good point. I'm excited regardless, but I bet it will still be a long black screen before it loads.

I will be spamming the Wii all tonight till about 4 or so in the morning eastern (I will start after midnight(, playing Socom and my laptop is on Wifi, don't want to kill my connection). Tomorrow I will be spamming it too. If I get any type of update tonight I will post it here.
