NST's said that they recently ran through the single player adventure and clocked it, putting it just shorter than the time it takes to complete the original Metroid Prime on the GameCube.

The game actually has a "bark mode" like Nintendogs called "Rival Radar." Snag someone's profile in this mode and you can actually track your rival's progress over the Nintendo Wifi network

The multiplayer modes include Survival, Bounty, Defender, Capture, Prime Hunter, and Nodes. There are, according to the demo, 19 different arenas to choose from. Lots of options to set before the battle: turn on or off the radar to see enemies on the lower screen, turn on or off friendly fire, adjust the level of damage shots give on an enemy. You can also set up what type of weapons to use during the match.

Everyone gets a "Hunters License" in Metroid Prime Hunters Wi-fi Connection. It keeps track of the Wi-fi wins/loss record, and lets people know who keeps dropping a game with a "connection history" percentage, reducing the percentage from 100% if they hit the power switch during a battle -- if the connection is accidentally lost, it won't affect that number

Now we're into Voice over IP. It's like a walkie talkie, holding A to send the message. Sounds great. You can also instant message using an on-screen keyboard

Interesting note is that Samus will be fully powered-up from the start, which goes against the normal Metroid presentation of finding all the abilities throughout the experience. Scanning is just as important in this game as it is in the GameCube Metroid Prime series: find scannable items, switch to the scan visor, and use the Fire button to scan the item.

updates to come soon

So, from the sounds, it's looking good? Because I played the Hunters demo long ago, and it looked (and played) pretty crappily. But, I always have faith in Nintendo. Maybe I'll check out the vids when they have them.

Unfortunately this will be another FPS (read: all of them) that I suck at, but still torture myself with by playing against others.

same here.

I do agree that the connection % is a great plus. Not to mention the game is alot less discouraging than Mario Kart.

It hope it'll be an exceptional single player experience. They seem to be giving an awful lot of attention to the online and multiplayer aspects, which I dont care about at all.

I'm mostly worried that they're focusing too much on making it a FPS instead of focusing on what a Metroid title should be.

People were initially worried when the original Prime was first revealed that they were taking a cherished series into FPS territory, fundamentally changing it from what people loved. Luckily that was avoided, and ever since there was been a deliberately careful branding of "First Person Adventure" to avoid that pitfall.

Hunters, sadly, looks to me like they jumped right in to the FPS genre without looking back. *sigh*

I can't friggin wait to play this when I get a Lite. single player mode almost as long as metroid prime plus wifi play = heart.
what I wouldnt give for a true sequel to Super Metroid, I know the GBA has some but it just wasnt the same.
do you think they will ever make a 2d metroid on the DS now that Hunters is coming out so soon?

I certainly hope they do, especially with how the 2-d Castlevania turned out.

oh, I don't think aynoen has to worry about the upgrades like old metroids actually. In some ways, it's still there. The IGN dosn't mention that when defeating the other bounty hunters (ie, bosses) in single player, you gain their special weapon, thus an upgrade. Upgrades are there for your gun, but nothing new for morph ball or armor or anything...

Glad they changed it. after playing so much metroid, I've gotten sick of finding all the little things at first.

After over a years worth of dissinterest, I'm finally starting to get excited about this game. I don't care so much for multiplayer FPSs, but the single-player campeign in this no longer sounds like an afterthought. While I would agree that this really is a FPS/Metroid hybrid (the same way metroid pinball was a pinball/metroid hybrid), that doesn't necessarily sound like a bad thing. The metroid series has always been known for its environmental puzzles, exploration, and secrets, and all that seems to have been left intact. The control scheme, and the fact that you get most of your powers from the get-go is what alters the formula making it a more action-heavy affair. I'd still vastly prefer a new 2D Metroid game, and of course, Prime 3, but I consider Hunters to be more of a Metroid spinoff and as such it sound pretty nifty.

On a side note, for those hwo use the thumb pad, doesn't it scratch the screen a lot? It seems like your natural inclination would be to press down somewhat hard on the screen since you'r essentially gripping it vs using the stylus where you hold it like a pencil and have more control. I'm very careful around my electronics and even my screen is already covered with hair scratches from Meteos and I'm a little worried this game would make it worse.

I have seen this in a few different forums, but WHY did everyone say the control was bad? You used the stylus to aim! How in the world is that bad control? I was performing kickass moves within seconds of booting the game up the first time. I must be completely missing something.

That said, can't wait for this game. This + Tetris. Goodness.

I never ad problems... I use the techinque of putting my stylus hand pinky under the DS and it feels natural... the thumb saddle is great as well.

my hand gets tired from it, but I can shoot more accurate than I normally do in FPS games. she shoots where you point and jumps when you double tap, arrows strafe and the stylus turns...seems idiot proof :whistle2:?
my only complaint would be switching to and from missiles on the fly...never got used to tapping that on the screen.

same here, but some people are not idiot proof.

Uh oh... stylus and D-pad at the same time? Might be the first game to be somewhat difficult for us lefties.

not really. It's actually the most lefty handed user friendly game out there. Swutching hands is as easy as pie, in fact it may be ever easyer than righty.

It's alright, I'm buying it either way. I will be able to see for myself in three weeks.

This was posted on IGN a week or two ago, I think, but I just saw it for the first time. It's a cool piece profiling Samus and each of the the six new bounty hunters.

I am so stoked for this game I can barely stand it. I just keep thinking how MK DS is far and away the best Mario Kart game I've ever played and took my appreciation of that series to a whole new level after I thought I'd had my fill. If this game even approximates that achievement with the Metroid franchise, we're in for quite a treat (ditto for Tetris DS).

EDIT: The profiles on the official site (www.metroidhunters.com) provide better pictures of the hunters and their alternate forms, as well as pre-rendered and gameplay videos of each in action.
