Metroid Prime Trilogy - Out of Print (Thanks, Nintendo!)
I'm hoping to pick this game up, but not for a while, due to my giant backlog.
No matter how great 3 games for (usually) under $50, I can't pull myself to go out and buy it.

"if i had a million dollars"
i wouldnt have this massive backlog of future purchases.

My GS had the poster but no t-shirt. I'm not too heartbroken. After some clever trade-ins, I probably only paid about $30 for the game.

I'm like 15 minutes into MP1 at the moment. I got distracted by the gamefly-ed Batman arriving yesterday. I'll play more either tonight or later this weekend. If anyone's up for trading codes for those silly bonus token things, I'm down.

The GS poster (picked up in store) was just rolled up with a rubberband around it. Dunno about how they get shipped out.

I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon and the Poster came folded. I haven't had a chance to try it out since I'm trying to finish the Monkey Island special edition from Steam. If anyone has played the game is it true that they removed the original metroid as an unlockable, I hope not since I would love to be able to play it widescreen.

I only need 3 more Artifacts then I can go to the final part of the game. I want to get a couple of more items for 75% items, though.

Heh - I picked this up even though I had no intention of doing so. I just couldn't resist price matching the Fred Meyer ad at Best Buy, getting the $10 gift card, and using a $10 RZ cert. So I paid $20 (after using my cert that was going to expire in a few weeks and I usually never shop at Best Buy) and got a $10 card and the game - sweet!

I already beat the MP3 100% though. But maybe I'll play the others. I never finished the first one and barely started the second.

I'm sure this has been asked 100 times but I'm feeling mighty lazy tonight and have 20 other threads to check up on. Does it use the save from MP3 (should I feel like firing it up again)?

:bomb: My shipment from Amazon came yesterday. I opened it up today and I didn't get a manual. In it's place was the crookedly cropped cover of the manual. I like to keep my collectors stuff in mint condition and in tact. I guess I'll email Nintendo customer service and see if I can get a replacement. I checked their site and you can purchase one for $1.25, I hope they don't end up charging me for a factory error.

It does seem that way since a few select EU gamers get the original Metroid for free:

Damn you EU, first your free health care, now your free Metroid.

Wouldn't help me much as I already got the original Metroid. And, it's old news. Also, it's never "free". Your taxes are just increased. But regardless...

I got past the first set of keys in Echoes. I noticed something in Prime, and I didn't think anything about it until I got to Echoes. Um...are you supposed to have the Spring Ball throughout the entire game? Even when you lose your abilities at the start of Prime and Prime 2? Because I sure as heck don't remember you being able to.

Also, the compression on the cutscenes in Echoes in quite noticeable. Like...REALLY noticeable. That's probably how they got it all into 1 disc, too.

It was added.

I did the math a few pages back that a 1:1 copy of MP1-3 fits on a DL DVD with 1GB to spare. WTF Nintendo?

NOA did the same thing with the cutscenes for Brawl in America. In Japan, they're fullscreen. Here...compressed and bordered.

I have the original metroid for the nes and the GBA classic series version but I was hoping that they might include a widescreen version since the original looks all stretched and blocky on my TV. I guess I will just have to stick with playing it on a small screen using the Gameboy player.

I loved the springball in metroid II if they added that then I guess it makes up for getting rid of some of the old unlockables. I will have to check out the compression issue you mention, shouldn't be a factor considering how small Metroid Prime I and II, they can't be any bigger than 1.5 GB each.

Well, from what I could see, Metroid Prime was not compressed AT ALL during cutscenes. There was some cropping, though (but that's been known).

Also, the Mission Complete screen changed from the original and Samus looks really stupid.

Depsite my better judgment, I picked up this game. I shouldn't have as:

1. I've got all three original games and beat them all on Hard/HyperMode with 100% completion
2. My wife's got me on a tight game budget (I snuck this one under the radar)
3. I have a huge, huge backlog, especially of current gen games
4. I should be supporting games like Muramasa, Little King's Story, Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga, or Phantom Brave on the Wii instead of first party stuff, as Nintendo does fine with most of its releases.

That said, when I saw the steel case, I knew I was going to lose $50 soon. I've not played it yet, but I am very much a Metroid fanboy so I know despite 2 to 3 playthroughs of each game that I've already completed, I'm good for 2 to 3 more on this compliation for each title.

Unfortunately, in my haste to open up the game, the knife I used put a small scratch on the top of the steelcase, which pissed me off, but lesson learned - relax and be more careful when opening awesome games. I really do like the artbook/timeline summary included. It's nice to see Retro/Nintendo tie together each part of the story from Metroid through Prime 3 (not sure if all the log entries and messages in the Prime games sewed together the tale so smoothly).

I'll be working on Prime 3 friend vouchers tokens soon. When Prime 3 came out, I think somebody made a separate thread for trading vouchers - any interest in a thread like that for Trilogy?

You know what isn't so 'awesome-ist'? The fact that Retro took out sequence breaking.

As much as I'd like to pretend it isn't, Metroid games are generally linear. Sure you're not forced to do things like go to the next area and so on, but you really can't go anywhere else (other than backtrack for powerups) because you need another item to progress.

That said, still one of my favorite games of all time (MP1).

Apparently even in the Players Choice NA version you could at least get the ice beam early...now there's an invisible wall there lol...anyway I've only played Prime 1 so far but thats what I've noticed.

I still need to get this one... it will eventually be mine.

If I had the originals all sealed except MP1) would anyone recomend a repurchase for control sake alone?

I have to admit, while I always bought these games I am not (yet) a huge MP fanboy. So I most the time never finished them...

Should I play through my current copies or jump for the new one?

Between the originals and the trilogy, I would definitely pick the trilogy. (Note that I never was able to complete the first 2 games due to my dislike of the controls) There's obviously some nostalgia that you might miss if you played the originals, so in your case it really boils down to money + controls. Control wise, I would say that the trilogy definitely benefits.

Thanks for the reply.

good gamestop experience yesterday: i went to return my online GS pre-order since i got boned out of the pre-order bonuses (i in turn ordered for $10 cheaper at buynextgen). the store had a shirt in so the guy gave it to me along with a bunch of other pre-order stuff that they had sitting around in the back, including the muramusa wall scroll. if anyone wants the metroid shirt, i'd be willing to trade it for something.

I would seriously buy this game at $50 if I could use my save files from MP1 and MP3. MP1 save importing was a little unrealistic, but no reusing of the save files from MP3? Really Nintendo?
Actually the could of included importing the Metroid Prime save file if they wanted to, in Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World if you have a Gamecube memory card with a completed ToS game in the Wii when you start a new game you get some bonus items.

My guess is that Nintendo didn't really want to let Retro include importing saves, it seems like with these New Play Control games they want them to stand out from the Gamecube version (for example no bongo controls in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat).

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.jpg

Don't remind me. Here's my very first thoughts on the Wiimakes:
fuck. Why can't Nintendo just reprint the damn games? The ONLY games I can see benefiting from waggle is Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2 with Metroid Prime 3 controls.

$50 for all 3 games is a good deal.

However, I like the Gamecube controller option just fine with the first 2 games. I guess it would have killed them to throw in that control option this time around, but Nintendo is content to force us to use the motion sensor, rather than giving people an OPTION.

I didn't have a problem with MP3's controls when I played, but you know what? I'm not a 100% fanboy of the Wii and I DAMN SURE think Nintendo should toss in standard control options with their games. MP3 would have impressed me better if they'd done just that.

And now I'm seeing people badmouthing the Gamecube control option as if Nintendo will hate them if they don't. Guess what? I like the Gamecube controls, I think they're great. I also like classic Resident Evil games and saw nothing wrong with them, unlike the hordes wo turned against them when RE4 came out.

I really have no love for companies that look down upon their customers like this, but it's the game industry, and game companies hate their customers.

Pikmin 1 worked pretty well with Wii controls. Just...the controls from Prime 3 are so much better than those in Prime 1 & 2.

After a few days, I picked up Corruption again
saving all 4 Guards, got 1 Friend Voucher and 3 Blue Credits
for my work up to now. I'll probably play a bit more later because I think I've played too much Batman too fast.

Oh, Christ. Cry more.

The point is the new, better controls. If you like the Gamecube ones so much, get the Gamecube games.
Some of you people bitch so much that when there's actually something important to bitch about, no one cares because you bitch so much.

I just recently acquired the
fire beam from Ghort
. I also have about 9 friends vouchers.

I love the controls in Prime 1 and 2 in the Trilogy. I feel they make the games more fluid. The original controls were good, but I like the upgrades better. Yes, I know they are missing effects.

I just started Bryyo in Corruption. Man. I don't know if it's the fact that I've played both Prime games back to back, the fact that Corruption brings nothing new, or the fact that I'm starting from scratch (scans and all) on the thing, but...I'm not really into it like I was 2 years ago.

I also now recognize what 'bloom lighting' means after all this time. This game's like 99% bloom. But that's not really a bad thing. It's just a jarring comparison from Primes 1 & 2 to 3.

I just received a used copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy from gamestop.com and it is in great shape, but I notice on the sleeve that it says it includes an artbook. I don't see an artbook, just the manual, reg card and "if you liked..." sheet. Am I missing the artbook or was there ever really one in the case? It doesn't look like there'd be much room for one.

I too bought a used copy from gamestop.com.

Mine did come with the fold out Art "Book".

Looks like this http://bulk2.destructoid.com/ul/138032-Metroid_bonusLG-620x.jpg

Everyone was perfect, got quite a few coins for reggin' it, but my tin has an impression on it. oh well.

for $16 spent after gc, I think it was worth it.

Bad ass game especially for 20 dollars. Has anyone noticed how dark prime 1 is on their TV? Seriously I popped in the old GNC disk and it was way lighter. I have to have my TV brightness to the max to play this game.
