Microsoft E3 Conference Discussion - Halo 3, GTAIV, Live Anywhere, Lumines Live!
Live Anywhere - Vista, 360, Mobile

Looks like you can play X360 games versus people playing on Vista.
Keyboard and mouse people will own the shit out of 360 controller users for FPS!!

Although I'm getting a little weary of all the PC stuff, being able to buy it on XBLA and play it on your phone or PC IS pretty cool.

So MS now has a VMU type thing but instead of a VMU we use cell phones?

Live Anywhere will provide cross-platform possibilities. Just scratiching the surface of mobile gaming. "Start a game on Xbox, continue it on your phone. There are games that will work that way."

GTA IV as a 360 exclusive as well as Halo 3 obviously being exclusive means Microsoft has a VERY good shot at locking up the males 18-34 market. Sony has a very uphill battle in the US now.

It looks as though you can edit skins (and other things) in Vista and then transfer them back over to the 360 as well?

That's what I gathered.

Live Anywhere is an interesting concept... I wonder if they can pull it off.

Can we assume Fable 2 will show up on the PC then? GTA 4?

MS seems to want to unite all three things (360, mobile phone, PC) into one kind of super entity.

Click the watch now on the video player. The Gears of War demo is awesome!

I keep getting a Subscriber screen.
GTA IV is not exclusive.

From Joystiq:

- Microsoft and Rockstar games have entered into an exclusive partnership to provide exclusive episodic content through Xbox Live. Moore is interrupted by applause after this announcement. The crowd was not expecting this, and is pumped to hear it.

That's cool. I thought I heard something about that, but the boxed game will ship for both systems.

So... I wonder if they will do a joint release for Halo 3, on 360 and Vista? It wouldn't make sense for them not to, espically since the two will be so closely bound together now.

then they would lose money on the 360

to what extent will the Live Arcade be integrated with Vista? My main motivation for considering the 360 was the upcoming Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on Live. If I can just get UMK3 on Vista, and still play online with 360 users, I could save myself some cash!

Why did I get excited after seeing that Halo 3 trailer? I've hated both campaigns for the first two...but I'll still be picking it up for multiplayer, I guess.
then they would lose money on the 360
Yeah, my 360-owning friend and I were just discussing this. We figure they're going to have to stagger releases for PC versions of games, or the need for 360 purchases will really fall off.
then they would lose money on the 360
Um... how? Most people would rather buy a 360 anyways then upgrade their comp. Microsoft seems very intent on merging the PC and 360 worlds together, with common Marketplace, Live on Windows, 360 and PC people playing against each other, why would they then deny their one killer app to a new operating system they are trying their hardest to build?

It wouldn't surprise me if they did a joint release, because it would probably be a huge selling point for how Live Anywhere would work.

Oblivion still sold a ton for the 360, and that's while it was available on the PC as well.

I wouldn't buy a 360 for Halo 3, but would I buy it for the PC if it was available around the same time? I sure would. I would also play it on Live through Windows Vista.

I don't think the 360 sales for Prey and Shadowrun will be hurt either, because they hit the PC on the same exact day.

I have no clue. The game they used as an example was Zuma. I'd assume not all the games will make it to every platform.

I'm somewhat anxious about this whole Vista & Xbox 360 marriage. I don't think it will cut into 360 sales at all though. People who want to play the game on a console will buy it for 360, people who want to play it on the PC will buy it for Vista.

It will definitely be interesting to see how Live Anywhere turns out.

Sony just got it ass kicked all over the place by MS and Nintendo. I love this E3!!

If GTA4 is going to be a system seller, why would anyone buy the PS3 version knowing they will be missing out on the episodic content? Oh yeah, PS3 is also $600

GTA games have so much content already that only a small percentage of people that buy it actually finish it.

Considering how much the trailer for Halo 2 differed from the final content, I'm going to keep my expectations a bit more subdued this time around.

However, I've been in an either/or kind of mood with the 360 and the PS3, and after the conferences, I think I'll be squeezing the trigger on the 360...

Okay, so by opening up Live to Vista and Mobile, Microsoft has effectively greatly increased the amount of people that could potentially subscribe to Live. This is going to be an opportunity for them to make a lot of money off of subscriptions.

Sorry... I'm still sorting through all the possibilities of this announcement.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. So far, seems like a smart move to me.

But seriously...that Halo 3 trailer? Boooring.

I believe Halo 2 was supposed to be launching on Vista. Highly unlikely MS will release Halo 3 on 360 & PC at the same time; just look at the amount of copies moved when Halo 2 was introduced, and imagine the number of 360's that will be sold thanks to that game. MS will do the same thing that they did with the rest of the games in the series: release it about 3 years later on the PC.

Then what is the point of integrating Live and Marketplace into Vista, if they are just going to hold back the best games for it? I really doubt they are taking this strategy.

As Shipwreck said, people who want it on 360 will get it there, and people who want it on PC will get it there. I don't think Halo 3 hitting the PC / 360 will take away 360 sales... people with a 360 aren't going to upgrade their PC, and people with shitty PC's (which there are many) are just going to buy a 360 and not deal with upgrading.

Only the tech heads will get it for PC... and to release it years later, when nobody cares (like Halo 2) won't do anything for the Live Anywhere cause on the PC side. They are just killing their own sales for the PC if they choose this route.

GTAIV was the show stealer here. The Halo 3 teaser was just the icing on the cake or the "overkill." It was pretty much what I expected.

You make some good points there Roufuss about those with the high end PC's going for Halo 3 but I don't understand why MS would push to bring Halo 2 to Vista only to release Halo 3 also. I don't think anybody would want Halo 2 and this time around Bungie is working on the port so you know MS put some money into the project. Here is a link to the article from GS a few months ago.

And THUS why I will be purchasing a 360 at the next price drop. GTA IV exclusive ... Sony just got kicked in the nuts!!

But it's not exclusive.... just the downloadable Live content is.

By the time GTA 4 comes out the 360 might even go through a second price drop, since didn't they want one every year?

i agree, i don't think they would release h2 and h3 for vista too close together; that would make h2 irrelevant, especially if h2 and h3 cost the same amount...

i think if they make h3 for the PC, they will bank on h3 being so popular on the 360 that when they release h3 on the PC, people would still be intersted in playing against 360 people so they would still generate fairly good sales for the PC version..

GTA IV will NOT be a 360 exclusive. Where do you guys get this shit from? It will be released simutaneously for the 360 and PS3 in October of 2007.

Yup, the downloadable content will be exclusive to 360 only. Damn thats going to be friggin sweet. I never expected this.
To be honest, the only thing I was wanting to hear from Microsoft was a price drop for the Xbox.
I don't see that happening. Xbox is dead to them, short of back compat. They don't want to sink any more money into that sinking ship.

Well, their NVIDIA contract or something is up... so tehy stopped making them.

You are correct they haven't been in production for a few months now.

I just finished watching the Microsoft press conference. It was ok, much better then Sony but not nearly as good as Nintendo. Gears of Wars looks great, Fable 2 could be good (I hope it's less linear and longer then Fable 1).
Having Xbox Live on Windows is a good idea, but is it Vista only?
The Halo 3 trailer was really boring.
