Microsoft ruins boy's one-of-a-kind 360

I have a feeling this kid is going to recieve a new unit complete with many many more signatures. The gaming developers seam to always dot the right thing for kids like this. Still it's a shame this happened, I feel really bad for this kid.

While I also wouldn't have sent the thing in, it's pretty shitty to blame it on the guy. It's not his fault they lied to him and destroyed the artwork.

Maybe he was a little naive for trusting them, but it's the employee's fault and so Microsoft should probably send him a new 360 with everything redone. That would be hard as hell to do though. Maybe they could just give him free games for life or something :p.

I like how some people here are calling the guy a dumbass for sending it in and act like it's easy for just about anyone to buy a 360. Nevermind if someone has bills to pay or a family to feed.

If he wanted a new 360, he would have done so. It wasn't just the case he wanted back, he also made mention of wanting the system itself back as well.

Also, the person who wiped down the case doesn't represent Microsoft as a whole. I don't see how that logic works.
BTW why is everyone calling him a boy? The guy is a registered nurse
lol

and i would've just bought a new 360 and kept that one up for display. lesson learned.

What I don't understand is how people are baffled about HOW this could happen. He sends it in, it ends up with someone who DOESN'T SPEAK ENGLISH, and it gets placed into an assembly line environment where one guy has the job of cleaning the consoles.

Let's be fair here, too, and even assume that MAYBE the cleaner speaks english... look at the TOP of the console. The top looks like teenage chickenscratch with DEROGATORY comments about the 360. It's entirely plausible that the cleaner thought the guy was dicking them off.

Point is... all repaired consoles go through the same procedure. Special requests mean nothing, and if that GUY (emphasis, since some people are still calling him a 'kid') cared that much, he never would have sent it in. MS screwed up by making consoles that need repaired, but the guy screwed up by trusting a corporation with his 'priceless' console. Regardless, he'll be compensated nicely and go on his merry way.

It also is a fact that the wipe down and cleaning of a return console is done as well.. They probably never got the Memo.. and it just went though the normal process.

This sucks but don't you think he could have had it fixed by a small company? If I was in a similar situation I would have had it repaired by some small off company that wouldn't have fucked mine up. It would cost money, Sure, but it would be worth it.

Taken from this thread on All Games
Let's look at the evidence provided. I did zoom in an reorientate the areas in question.

If you look closely at exihibit A. (The smudge) You will see that it is below an slightly to the left of the "0" (zero) in XBOX 360.

af692cb0e6ef11dcbc89c12vs2.jpg

Exhibit B. (Master CHEF) There is no writing in the area in question pointed out in Exhibit A.
Note where the writing is in relation to the "0" (zero)

af346110e6ef11dca72c9bbfa5.jpg

Exhibit C. (The nail in the coffin. Pun intended) There is no writing anywhere near where the "The Smudge" came from.

ae9e62a0e6ef11dcaaee254xe1.jpg

Giving the evidence at hand with the orientation in relation of the XBOX 360 logo that none of the writing displayed on exhibit B or C could have been could have caused that smudge directly.
Given the alleged thorough nature of the cleaning it is also very small possiblity that the smudge could have been a product of residue left by the cleaner.

You can take my investigation for what you will but I consider this myth: BUSTED!
It said the sigs were all from RT, Bungie, and Microsoft. As closely knit as they are to the gaming community, a little PR and this guy is going to get a brand new 360 that was initially passed around like a whore to collect tons of signatures before being sent his way.

You know it's going to happen, he's going to get a tricked out system in the coming weeks, you watch.

~HotShotX
My thoughts exactly.
I can't believe the kid was using the system in the first place. What, does he practice for little league with his dad's signed Mickey Mantle ball, too?
You don't smack around a video game console.
I think it's funny how most people are like "yeah, I wouldn'ta done that!" like that proves that they're smart or something.
And in comes the voice of reason....

Or maybe it's an elaborate scam to trick MS into giving him a free 360 that's gonna get passed around to Bungie, etc.?

Either way, retarded to send something like that in.

Would you send your Mountain Dew Xbox to be repaired lol?

Speaking of which, they should do a Mountain Dew Green 360.
Wow. So now everyone has to assume that they'll be screwed over or treated like shit by those people who are *paid* to take care of things for us, even when assured that they will, or else they're a dumbass?
Pretty much my exact thoughts. Why is everyone calling him a dumbass, it's not like he just sent it in without re-assurance.
Pretty much my exact thoughts. Why is everyone calling him a dumbass, it's not like he just sent it in without re-assurance.
It's just the way people think. If he would've gotten it back perfectly then he wouldn't have been called a dumbass.

Not saying it's right, it's just a bias that people usually use. They judge how bad or good a decision is based on the outcome. Guilty as charged.

I lost my first skin when I was surprised to get a brand new SKU after my second time sending in my coffin to support; first for the e76 error, second for the RROD I got 6 days after I got my machine back from being fixed. That individual should have marked the signatures on the skin, so then you could take it off later but yea that's too bad what happened. I just skinned my new replacement with the Gamergraphics Transformers BumbleBee skinhttp://www.amazon.com/Gamer-Graphics-Transformers%253a-Bumblebee-Skin/dp/B000U6DT02/ref=pd_ys_iyr_img?pf_rd_p=258341101&pf_rd_s=right-2&pf_rd_t=1501&pf_rd_i=home&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=07H9PRTZ27YPAD3Q67QE

Honestly, who really cares if your Xbox has signatures on it?... If they scrubbed it all off, I think it's wrong, but WGAS honestly?
He should've bought a PS3

Just kidding, just kidding ;)

PS3 > 360, he needs to realize that. :D

This story is dumb. The most annoying part is because of the incessant whining of the bloggers, he'll probably get something in return.

The e-mail he sent into the tech support is just irritating. The idiot sounds like he wants to marry the damn thing.
C'mon guys. The Kid / Nurse? will probably get a shietty game for free. Do any of you remember the 2004 Viewaful Joe Demo sent out by Sony that will erase your memory card? Wait, they compensated people for it? Where the hell was I when this happened? I would've liked a free game for my 100+ hour FFX file :(

The guy should have written that letter in Spanish. Anyone who has ever been to McAllen will know why. (Hint: it involves illegals with no English skills.)

You don't even have to go there, you just need to look at where it is in Texas on a map. It is practically IN Mexico.

What he said^

Hate to come off as a dick but this guy/kid/nurse combo was just plain stupid.

I am a big time soccer fan...I have a soccer ball that is signed by a couple of player. You know where it is? In a fucking case in the closet only to be taken out when I try to get more people to sign it.

I dont go to the park and play with the damn thing.

Once you get the xbox signed...and if you care enough about the sigs on it...just fork up the money to buy another xbox. One for play...one for getting signed. Any idiot knows that.

Also...this seems less like an employee being a dick and more like red tape. There is most likely some rule that says that every xbox that goes out must me cleaned/wiped/ whatever and the guy most likely didnt want to wipe it off but was made to.

But he shouldnt have sent it in...in the first place. Sending a letter does nothing. You know how many bricks come in there a day? The worker most likely doesnt even look in the box anymore just grabs the xbox and does his job the goes on to the next one for 8 hours.

All I am saying is if you fix 20 xbox's a day 5 days a week 8 hour at a time you most likely dont give a fuck what comes in the box or about some letter that came with it.

This guy/kid/nurse showed that he didnt care enough about the xbox to take the proper lengths to secure it so....sucks for him.

Things you do to keep something priceless from getting messed up.

1. Dont use that item every day
2. If its an item that you would like to use...buy another copy and use that one.
3. Never trust it in the hands of anyone that is not right in front of you. If you can not stand behind the person fixing/cleaning/detailing your priceless item its not worth it to give it to them.
4. Keep it in a safe place......locked case, safe, whatever.

If the xbox was so important to him to cry over then it should have been important enough to make sure it never got destroyed, altered, wiped, whatever. This guy did everything wrong and then wants everyone else to feel bad for him.

Also...does he not know another fucking person with an xbox? You couldnt just ask someone you know can you borrow their case so you can keep your priceless one? Christ..the more I think about this the more I think this guy is an attention whore.
This guy did everything wrong and then wants everyone else to feel bad for him.
Yup, this is alllllll his fault. :whee:
Yup, this is alllllll his fault. :whee:
When its your priceless item, that no one would care about but you it is indeed your fault.

If something is that important to you..you should take every measure there is in protecting it. Big companies tend to not give a fuck about customers on a base by base account...you know that I know that everyone over 14 should know that.

So you should find another way to fix it. I am sorry... I am just not a guy who puts his hand in the fire and then blames god for having it hurt.

Its your item...you should take the time to ensure its safety. Assume the worst and find another way then put your priceless item a box and ship it half away across the country.

Also you have to remember it was just the case. Not the actually xbox. You are telling me you couldnt find a way to get another case on your xbox before sending it in? By and xbox take the case off....send in your bricked one. When it returns......return the repaired xbox to wal mart no questions asked for a refund. Easy. There are just many many many ways he could have gone about this and he picked one of the worst by trusting a random person on the phone, and sending a letter addressed to no one. For all he knows he could have talked to a 17 year old high schooler whos only job is to answer the phones and make coffee.

He could have taken it to a local repair shop. There were just to many options that he could have taken for me to just put all of the blame on MS. They did nothing but what they said they were going to do. Return his xbox working...in which they did.

Hell this guy could have ebayed another fucking xbox case for little or nothing and then sent that one in. Are you kidding me its not his fault? Common sense grows less common everyday.

Microsoft put out shitty hardware that breaks easily. The guy calls Microsoft and Microsoft assures him he will get his 360 back in the same condition. He writes a letter to Microsoft so a Microsoft employee who is suppose to do his job can fix it and not touch the case.

See what I did thar?

Yeah, you blamed a company because you dont like taking personal responsibility for something that you care about.

I dont give a flying fuck what MS is suppose to do. If you care so much about it dont even allow it to even get messed up.

Watch this.

Mircosoft put out a shitty hardware that breaks. Doesnt matter. You went out and bought it. So you either didnt do any research and bought something blind..which is your fault..or you did do the research knew it was going to break and went ahead and bought it anyway. Still again. your fault. Actually knowing that xbox break a lot makes you even more worthless than before. Since after all you would know that your priceless xbox would break eventually so you should have had plenty of time to either buy another one, or find a spare case to put on it.

MS DID NOT assure him anything but the safe return on his xbox. He got his xbox back in working condition did he not? Unless he can prove that the person he called was the highest level manger that overseas every xbox that came in the door its worthless. Again, by not making sure he had a team leaders names, the name of the tech who would actually be working on his xbox, shipping manger name. Then just calling means nothing. Again. His fault. Unless he gets someone to actually say, I TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR XBOX. Then the call and letter is worthless.

A MS employee's job is not to read the thousands of letters that come into the shop. His job is to fix the broken xbox to working order. His xbox is now working. The tech did his job.

Or, what this person could have done is simply, ebay another case and send that one. Problem solved before it was even a problem. Why even leave it in the hands of fate?

http://video-games.search.ebay.com/...trksidZm37QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQsacatZ62054

There you go. There is a kick ass blue case for 20 bucks....or if you dont have any money you can buy an regular for 9 bucks. So again your are telling me this guy couldnt spend 9 fucking dollars to ensure his priceless item? Its 9 dollars.

9 dollars and the safety of your priceless item because its still in your possession.

Hmm, talking to random MS reps, sending in priceless item on the hope that someone cares enough to read your letter.

Hmmmp. Tough choice.
Your argument makes about as much sense as arguing about women's heels  :whee:
Apparently so. Thanks for playing.

Easy Breezy.
Changing the Case Voids the Warrenty
Yes it voids Msoft warranty. But you can still get it fixed by others.

Or you could have got a in store warranty that would allow you to just switch out the xbox with a working no questions asked.

Again, there are many many ways he could have gone about this. No excuse.

Also, the case is what is important to him not the xbox itself. If you care so much about the case...switch it out with another one and take it back to a store.

Also I have and have seen people send in xbox without the warranty sticker. I had a custom xbox cover that I took off and replaced with the original one when it bricked. Sent it in and got a new one. Proceeded to take off the original for my custom on again.

Sad indeed. But I can't say it was Microsoft's fault. They may go through hundreds of consoles a day and there's really no exception. BTW, there are ways of changing the case without voiding the warranty. ;)
It would be really nice to see easy,non-warranty voiding custom cases/case mods next gen.
I'd make these things you could snap on the front of cases and call them "faceplates". It'd be awesome, you could have whatever you wanted on the "faceplate" and swap 'em out with different "faceplates". ;)

I don't know what happened to his console but why would you send a console like this back to Microsoft? I don't care if you talk to Bill Gates that is just a catastrophe waiting to happen. Why wouldn't you get a new console and change the case. You void the new warranty you say? Well we know the other console didn't have one so why not fix it yourself. There is a lot of things this guy could have done and he simply chose the worst one.

Don't get me wrong, MS should be reliable for this but this could have been easily avoided especially with such a treasure as that console USED to be.

imo I think he was sad he got RROD and saw this as an opportunity to get some publicity and free shit out of it. I just don't see someone sending this away for repair, regardless of financial situation.
Good news. Link
I reiterate, everyone needs to stop referring to him as a 'boy'. This was a not a child, but a man old enough to be a registered nurse. I guarantee that 50% of the sympathy that's been generated with all of this is because they keep calling him a 'kid'.

Anyway, rant over. This is exactly what we all knew was going to happen.

man, i feel bad. If i have a signed 360, i would not use it to play because i would know that the systems are all unstable. I would probably get a new system to play games on and keep the signed one on the shelf. That way i will know for sure that its safe.

I agree with those saying he shouldn't have used it... I have a basketball signed by a whole NBA team. I certainly don't use it to play pick-up games.
