Furry, heated bras may soon appear in some Japanese wardrobes as the country prepares for “Warm Biz” — a nationwide government campaign urging workers to bundle up and save energy on heating this winter.

The Warm Biz Bra, unveiled this week by Tokyo-based underwear maker Triumph International, is lined with material that the company says helps save warmth.

The bra also has removable pads that can be heated in a microwave or hot water — as well as long, furry straps that wrap around the neck like a scarf, and matching shorts. “Warm Biz lets you add a little fun and chic to office wear, and prevents global warming,” Triumph says. In an attempt to cut energy use, Japan’s government has recommended setting thermostats this winter at 19 degrees Celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit) for government buildings, and 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) for private companies. The government said this year’s June-August “Cool Biz” campaign — which had bureaucrats and politicians sporting open-collar, short-sleeve shirts to cut down on air conditioning — saved 210 million kilowatt hours, enough to power 720,000 households for a month. ap

You know you want one

In other news, CNN reports an expected 60% drop in peanut smuggling this winter. :whistle2:#

Toasty undies is an interesting idea though.

when I used to use a space heater I would throw my clothes on it before I left my house to walk outside in the cold Pittsburgh winter

Maybe I'm wrong here, but isn't that basically a huge fire hazard? I'd actually shove mine in the dryer for about 20-30 mins before I left for class in the winter.

well its not like I went to class with clothes on there, I'd put it on for a couple min and head out. Doesnt take that long for warm clothes, though clothes stayin warm is another story.

Yeah, I was thinking that, too. I just deal with cold clothing, it doesn't bother me much having grown up in high-altitude Colorado.

I guess it depends on the person, knowing me if I tried it I'd be checking Cag for a couple mintues realize I was shorter on time and rush out leaving a scarf or something sitting there.

Anyhow, as per the heatable bra, though I obviously don't need one, I do understand the need for heated clothes. I love my heated socks.

If you tried to wear that under a normal shirt or blouse it would look stupid.
If you wore it as strictly upper clothing and nothing else, it defeats the purpose of trying to stay warm.
Those crazy Japanese.

[quote name='GuilewasNK']Heh, the women get all the technological advances. What about some heating pads for the "bro"?

Unrelated to the topic, but what channel and what time does this show (Extras) air?

I'd like to check it out -- seems hilarious. :)

Man, this sucks. I had this idea years ago and should have tried to do something with it. It started with my wife's roomate from college, who came up with making a bra out of flanel so it would be warm in the winter - but then I thought of the microwavable packs.

Oh well, that's how it goes. Although mine had a much better name. The Brrra. Get it? For cold weather?

Now to get the patent for my Toaster Fish before someone beats me to it.
