MLB 2010 Discussion Thread

I am going to go to bed tonight and pray to God that BJ throws his arm out and needs career ending surgery. Guy is a fucking joke and an embarrassment to the Pinstripes. fuck you BJ and get the fuck off of my team.

A high school pitcher would be doing better than this clown. Yankees are going to be forced to give up a prospect for Lee now.

And I am sorry for defending BJ compared to Kawakami. BJ is flat out atrocious. 2 outs and nobody on base and this Million Dollar Arm with a 1 cent head gives up 6 hits and 3 homeruns/ 5 runs. Great Job Cashman! Only stuck with this idiot for another 3 years 60 million. Only thing the Yankees can do is pray he pulls a Brien Taylor and let the insurance pay his contract.

Enjoy the win Yukine. I am going to enjoy when BJ suffers a career ending injury. It will be Christmas for Yankee fans. Scrub has given up 7 runs all coming after 2 outs and nobody on base.

Well the bullpen hasn't gone to work yet, they can easily give up a 6 run lead in no time. I think the bullpen ERA is something like 6.95?

You shouldn't worry about the bullpen when the Yankees are making Lopez look like Cy Young.

Yankees offense can beat up on Santana, Pelfrey and Halladay but get schooled by Lopez, Kendrick, Moyer and a Japanese rookie scrub.

If I am another baseball team facing the Yankees, I would just put flat out scrubs for the starters. Yankees wont him them and it's been like that all season and for years. Pretty funny that a team can beat up on Cy Young winners but cannot handle AA pitchers.
we knocked him out

mets piling it on early.
ANGEL PAGAN!!!

If Manuel Platoons him in RF when Beltran comes back I am going to flip out.

seriously, i just dont want to ruin the kids momentum. He has been great in the past two months. C"moin Pagan...Just a homer for the Cycle!

Yukine, you were right about your DBacks relief pitchers. Vazquez is god awful.

Yankees offense looked 100000000 times better against Haren than they did against Rodrigo Lopez. The trend continues as the Yankees can handle great pitchers but not scrubs. GO FIGURE!

It's like the better he hits, the worse his pitching gets.

You know you are having pitching problems when Ian Kennedy and Heilman are probably your best starter/bullpen arm this season.
Haren hasn't pitched well at all this year.
Dan Haren could lose both arms and still be a better pitcher than Rodrigo Lopez.

Two stupid things I read about the Mets decision making today. One, they would trade for Lee without requiring a negotiation window to sign him to an extension. The only good thing is the article said they wouldn't trade Davis, Niese, or Mejia but even considering renting this guy is silly.

Two, Manuel and Minaya have said that Pagan will be the 4th outfielder rotating in each of the 3 positions. Seriously, how stupid can these guys get. If this really happens I am going to lose it. Pagan has been the best clutch hitter for the Mets all year. He has fixed his problems of not being able to focus and making dumb decisions and has been one of the best players on the team all year. So lets start Jeff Francoeur over him?!?! The guy can't hit and still swings a everything. I like Jeff but I rather have Pagan in there. Only thing Francoeur has is a better arm. Manuel and Minaya should be fired before this happens.

It all depends if they rotate him right, but then again it's the Mets. So I doubt they do. The best way to rotate him would be something like 2 in CF, 1 each in RF/LF, and then an off day. Rinse and repeat. He'd play like a regular and get similar rest.

Yeah but like you said it's the Mets. I have no confidence in Manuel to correctly rotate him. I don't think he should be rotated any way. I rather most of the at bats go to Beltran, Bay, and Pagan.

Haren has a career high strikeout rate, a walk rate of 1.74 per nine innings, and while he pitches in a hitter's park, he has one of the better defenses in baseball behind him. What is hurting him is a fluke BABIP of .342, 40 points higher than his career average - with a career low LD%. Line drives have a BABIP of around .720 this season, so expect his BABIP to fall, and fall fast. Also, expect his LOB% and HR/FB rate to normalize as the season goes on.

I hope the guy who has Haren on his team in my fantasy league feels the way you guys do - I'm looking to nab him and Greinke.

Johan Santana has been accused of Rape!

http://www.tmz.com/2010/06/23/new-york-mets-johan-santana-pitcher-sexual-battery-florida-rape/

TMZ obtained a copy of the report filed with the Lee County Sheriff's Office on October 28, 2009 -- one day after the alleged attack in Fort Myers. In the document, the accuser (referred to only as Jane Doe) claims she and Santana were walking on the golf course when he "began to kiss her and pull up her top, unclasping her bra."

The report continues: "Johan began to pull at [the accuser's] skirt/skort and attempt [sic] to place his hands into her underwear." According to the document the alleged victim "told Johan no multiple times but Johan persisted."

The report gets more graphic, when the accuser claims Santana penetrated her, grabbed and bruised her calf, and "ejaculated on her upper thigh."

The accuser claims she "cleaned her thigh with her underwear" -- and then returned to a tennis court with Santana, and actually watched him play tennis with someone else.

According to the report, a detective collected all of the accuser's clothing as evidence.

A spokesperson from the Sheriff's Office tells TMZ Sheriff's detectives met several times with the prosecutor from the State's Attorney's Office to review the case. Law enforcement sources say DNA evidence did prove there was intercourse, but, according to a Sheriff's document, the prosecutor concluded, "There was not enough evidence to prove lack of consent, the alleged victim's statement is not consistent with other witnesses." The case was closed out on December 8, 2009.

We contacted Santana's rep, who said, "Johan denied the charges and was never charged with anything. As far as the law enforcement side of this goes, the case is closed."

Just to add about Pagan staying in when Beltran comes back, In 16 games since batting at the top of the order, Jose Reyes and Angel Pagan are batting a combined .315 with 15 RBI and 20 runs scored, during which the Mets are 12–4. That was taken from Metsblog.com.

I know they played a couple of bad teams in that stretch but still...
Because I spoke about Pagan, he leaves tonight's game injured.
that is what you get for worrying. Dickey looks pretty good so far and Reyes is back hitting for the Mets. All the Mets have to do is get Jason Bay and Jeff Frenchy to realize the season is almost half way over.
Red Sox just put a hurting on Ubaldo. This is the American League, son. :D
Glad they roughed him up, especially after Cameron's blunder yesterday that cost them a run. And his ERA only jumped .45, to 1.60. That's crazy. I'm a bit surprised to see Bard in the 7th, but I wonder if he goes 2 and then Paps. Or if he's one and done.

The Red Sox scored almost half as many earned runs off him (6) as he'd given up in all his other starts combined (13). God he's been ridiculous.

And like that, Papelbon blows it. Go figure.

Yankees offense goes back to sucking. Willis pitched 2 1/3 innings gave up 2 hits and 7 walks and only 2 runs. Yankees offense gidp'ed a ton of times and had numerous bonehead base running mistakes. Simply Awful! Should have scored 8 runs off of Willis.
Wow, what an impressive outing by Demel.
Do not get too excited. I do not want to take away from your Happiness but the Yankees flat out suck against rookies and scrub pitchers.

As a Diamondbacks fan, I'm always cautiously optimistic. ;)

Still though, his first stressful inning of work and he strikes out the side; Swisher, Texeira, and A-Rod. Not bad at all.

Edit: Now for the regularly scheduled 9th inning meltdown!

What did you think of our little stadium? I think it's very charming, and hopefully they're going to keep building up that area.

Though it's funny, I was all gung ho for them to build a new stadium when I was in college here and the Nats first arrived. Then I became a DC citizen and looked at my taxes and heard myself say "What the fuck is this stadium tax bull%$@#??" :D I'm still glad they built it though.

I really liked it. The only stadium that i've really spent any time in is the Red's which is pretty nice and gives the fans plenty of home runs to see. I'm sure i'll be going back plenty of times. My girlfriend just moved there for a new job and so i'm there about every 3 weeks or so. And honestly, my favorite part was riding the metro there from Takoma Park which is where she lives. I've always hated sitting in traffic and paying a ridiculous amount for parking.

It's definitely way better than RFK was in that respect (as well as pretty much every respect), very metro accessible.

Do yourself a favor sometime you're out here and go up to Baltimore and check out Camden Yards. The team sucks, but it's by far my favorite stadium in the majors (and I've been to a lot of them). Fantastic place to see a game.
Welcome to the National League, BITCH! So great to see Giambino hit a walkoff off of Papelbum and make the whole Roid Sox Nation cry themselves to sleep.

Good to see he's not totally useless after he quit juicing.

Big rumor going around is that Mike Lowell might be dfa'ed. Guy is in a huge slump, old, slow, etc and the Sox need to make a roster move to put DMat back on the roster.
