MLB 2010 Discussion Thread

Travis Ishikawa's strike out was pure comedy. Shit was way outside. Computer shows it's outside.

McCarver: "Perfect pitch"

Just put on the Phillies jersey McCarver/Buck. End the suspense!

Madson didn't have to pitch two innings, ugh.

I wonder how Brian Wilson will be for 1 2/3 innings.

Well, there's 2 outs. Was Victorino doing a hit and run? Uggggggggggggggggggggh.

Don't think that was a good call to bring Lincecum in from the pen. Even without having given up two hits, he just pitched in game 5. I'd have kept him out at least until game 7 if you needed him in the pen then.

At least Wilson got the double play to get out of the inning. Should have just went with him for a the 6 out save rather than trying Lincecum.

Hell yeah! Phuck the Phils!

Great to have a World Series with some new teams for once. First time for the Rangers, 2nd for the Giants in my lifetime (and they lost both times).

THERE IS A BASEBALL GOD!

That final out was so nerve wrecking, but it's very satisfying to see the Phils go down. This calls for celebration. Who wants to pop the cork?

Who was the last WS team to be as bad or worse than the Giants on offense? I can't even think of one as bad as they are.

Totally agree. If my Yanks couldn't get there, it's nice to see two new teams get a shot. Maybe this will make people forget about payrolls for a week or two.

Howard would have struck out on that last pitch anyway. Oh well, there's always next year.

If Giants want any chance to win the WS, they need to step up their game big time. Even if the Phils beat the Giants, they would have had a rough time against the Rangers.

Let's hope not. ;)

Congrats to the Giants, I picked a Rangers-Phillies World Series, but I'm much happier seeing this matchup.

Here we fucking go baby. I can't fucking wait for Wednesday. Time for Cliff Lee to get back to work.

How many times do we have to go over that everyone outside of Giants fans picked the Phillies to win. Can you really blame them? They were the better team on paper, but you can't win while in a slump. Lol to you, the person that doesn't understand baseball and stats.

I was at Game 6 tonight... was pretty sucky.

Kudos to the Giants for taking advantage of a team in a SERIOUS slump. It is just very frustrating to lose to an inferior team, but I guess that is why you play the games.

To real Giants & Rangers fans - remember to enjoy it.

Too bad Baseball is real and not on paper. The better team won, our pitching overmatched your hitting it's plain and simple. Phillies players and fans went into this thinking it was going to be an easy trip to the World Series, but I guess they were all wrong. It was awesome seeing Phillies fans crying in the crowd, just felt so nice.

Yeah, I really think ph33r m3 is the west coast version of wildcpac. He has all the tools.

I understand that I have a biased opinion and I'm also trying to reason with a troll, but the Phillies were a team of extreme highs and lows this whole season. We hit one of our trademark slumps at the wrong time.

We would've lost a 7 game series to Seattle or the Mets playing the way we did.

Like I said though, to all the fans that have been with the Rangers and Giants through their highs and lows, enjoy the World Series. It's a lot of fun.

Agreed. I think this will be one of the best world series in years.

If the rangers hitting stays strong and the pitching stays consistent, the rangers should take it. If the giants want a chance, their batters need to step it up.

So, are we going to see a Lee/Lincecum game 1? That should be fun to watch.

I'm not trying to troll, the Giants pitching put the Phillies in that slump. I think another reason that the Phillies did so bad, is that the media and maybe their management put into their heads that the World Series was theirs.

We had similar slumps against other teams, including a 3 game sweep at the hands of the Mets where we didn't score any runs. I'm not discounting the Giants pitching, it is pretty good. The problem was very much mental with the Phillies this series. We were lucky to sweep the Reds with a similarly anemic offense.

Definitely the sort of thing one comes to expect from Giants fans. Class, honor, dignity. Hallmarks of San Fran fans.

I guess I'd be pissy too if my team had never won anything in its history, but the Dodgers have so many World Series championships that I have trouble remembering them all.
Let's keep it civil in here, if it's not too much to ask.
Aw, come on man. You didn't have to delete the part about the Dodgers having all those WS championships and the Giants having none.

We're still celebrating championships from a long time ago?

Were you even cognitively efficient back in '88?

Hell, while you're in your time machine Doc Brown, make sure I bet on a kid named Michael Jordan.
We're still celebrating championships from a long time ago?
I guess you'll have to wait until your team wins championships to find out. I wonder how long that wait will be for Giants fans. :cold:

As we "couldn't believe what we just saw", we swore we heard screams of terror from the north.

And since we're reminiscing, our #1 pitcher actually got the save when he came in in the NLCS.

You got me man.

Good thing your Dodgers beat the Phils in the playoffs.

Remember that home run Ethier hit off Halladay?

Wwww-ait?

You mean Los Doyers didn't beat the Phillies the past two years?

Awkward.
Welcome to the Mets Sandy Alderson

Now please fix us!
Not getting my hopes up but I think it was a good hire.

Ehhhh. We probably would have cared more about getting past em if we didn't have any championships at all. But when you've got em, you come to realize that they're all that matters.

But srsly tho, big congrats on the NL banner. Def something 2 b proud of.

For reals though. Sandy Alderson? Maybe it's because I hang out on this board with a bunch of Mets homers, but they really couldn't do better? I expected them to get a big name and Alderson isn't...? Those Padres teams weren't particularly great.

Just sayin.

How about the A's teams from the late 80s- 4 AL West titles, 3 pennants, 1 WS title?

Good point. I forgot all about him working for them. I'm an NL west homer. Anyone hear any names on the list for manager?
Not getting my hopes up but I think it was a good hire.
i concur. He is a great baseball mind and he usually takes time to make all his decisions and he thinks everything through. He is not brash like Minaya. I wouldnt of mind the Mets just waited for john daniels till after the post season ended too. I figure he would have some interest but it looks like the Rangers will lock him up for the long haul.

He was CEO of the Padres so he let Towers run the show for those padres team...at least he aided them to a World Series albeit against the juggernaut yankees.

None yet, Just Wally Backman and usual Bobby V rumors.

EDIT:
Althought i was had a very very tiny glimmer of hope that Dave Duncan wouldn't sign that muli-year contract and have the Mets make a run at him but I know LaRussa and their ownership was not going to let that happen.

So, earlier in the thread, someone pointed out how the Giants fans have no class when there were two 10 year olds who had signs that said "Phuck the Phillies" and I'm pretty sure they were Yankees fans, just wondering how you feel about your fan base after hearing about them spitting on, throwing beer at, and yelling stuff at Cliff Lee's wife?

Also Dodgers fans are pretty funny, they get to the park in the 3rd and leave in the 7th no matter what game, Dodgers as an organization have one more championship than the Giants in their entire history, though all of the Giants wins were when they were in New York. Sure, they have a few wins in LA, but the last one was in 1988, 22 years ago, completely worthless to this generation of baseball fans, anyone under the age of pretty much 30 who is a dodger fan probably doesn't even remember it. I'm glad the Dodger fans are happy about their future, but it's going to be fun watching them crash and burn for the next several years.

Anyways, Go Giants, still the underdogs and right where they want to be. I'm going with Giants in 7, I want a great World Series.
