Apparently Leyland learned nothing from the the last 6 games of the season where the Tigers blew an amazing amount of scoring opportunities. Surprisingly, they lost 5 of those. I think they might make it 6 out of 7 today.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought you weren't supposed to have the mindset of "I'm going to try everything, and I'm going to get second guessed a lot" unless you were losing and needed to mix things up.

Wow, two innings in a row!

Heh, guess I don't need to watch this game much longer. Twins better lose to the A's for making us play the fucking Yankees.

We didn't make you play the Yanks, that was you and the Royals. If you didn't notice we crapped away the last week of the season too.

I think I'd rather play the Yankees with their mediocre pitching right now anyway.

WTF? The Tigers had 12 fucking hits yesterday, and were only able to score 4 runs, 2 of which were HRs.

*repeatedly bangs head on wall*

Welcome to the Twins' world. I don't know how many times this year we rattled off a ton of hits, but barely got any runs to show for it. We had the same amount of hits as the Yankees for the season, but had 130 less runs.

Yesterday we were a fantastic 0-8 with runners in scoring position.

Wow that is great for us Dodger fans, acutally that is great for any team besides the Mets in the post season. That sucks for them, such a promising year and to lose two of your top starters right before the playoffs.
Now watch the Mets sweep you guys with Maine, Glavine, and whoever starts game 3.

And damnit, all the teams I wanted to win yesterday lost. Though the Twins/A's series isn't too bad, since its not someone playing the Yankees. Come on Tigers beat the Yankees, or atleast take them 5 games and weaken their BP and starters.

The Tigers fell into the normal....cannot get a clutch hit again. Hit N Run with Pudge and he misses. That was pretty bad. Detroit is not the best "contact" team in the league....I know they were up there in K's....as Granderson let the league.

I'm a Dodger fan and I think that what the Mets lack in starting pitching is offset by the Dodgers ragtag and sometimes inept Bullpen. There have been so many games during the Dodgers season that were lost in late innings by the Bullpen, and against some really crappy teams like the Cubs, Pirates and Brewers.....so I guess that evens things out.

On another note: One thing that pisses me off this year is after seeing the Padres and the Cards suffer through late afternoon shadows in their game yesterday, is why every time the Yankees make the post season, they seem to manage to have their games in prime time? Damn TV networks think every baseball fan is a Yankees fan......Go Tigers!

well the numbers tell the networks people want to watch the yanks or the red sox, or the cubs on a national basis....also the fact that ny, boston and chicago are part of the bigger tv markets, there are more people to watch it.

i dunno man...takeshi saito has really been lights out if they get to him. With el duque out and maine starting game 1..im now really worried...because of the lack of exp in maine going against a streaking dodgers lineup. potentially they might even have oliver perez start game 4 if neccessary..which scares me even more. i think this series could be the best of the 1st rounders.

I just found out a minute ago that the Dodgers bullpen will be minus Joe Beimel as he was left off the playoff roster due to an injury to his pitching hand. Seems he cut his hand on a drinking glass in his hotel room bathroom yesterday.. He was somewhat effective in his role this year....but this has to be a blow to the Dodgers, as this was the part of the Dodger team that was already lacking this year......the bullpen....we shall see how much it will hurt this afternoon.
Is anybody watching the early game? How in the heck did they get in an inside the park homerun?
Tori Hunter made a diving try to get a ball hit by Kotsay and it got by him....bad play by Hunter!

He can't seem to figure out that he is older and he hurt his foot this year. Looks like he is making up for it with some great at bats though. Not sure why the Twins decided they would try to hit a bunch of home runs, their at bats have been terrible.

You better hope they can come up with something big in the 9th, as they are trailing 4-2 now. They will almost be dead in the water if they drop the opening 2 at home.

5-2 now. I thought the A's would be in trouble with Loaiza pitching today but he did pretty good until those 2 jacks.
Nice job Twins pulling a damn Vikings so far in this series.
Yeah, pretty terrible. They all just seem too excited or something.

So much for that great AL Central.

We'll see if the Tigers have any chance at this series with Verlander vs. Mussina. That's gotta be their best pitching matchup by far.

Edit: Nevermind... an injured Randy vs. Rogers isn't bad, nor is anyone against Jaret Wright. How the hell did he wind up on the roster? Still, they're not gonna win 3 in a row, so tonight is a must if they want to have a chance at those later matchups.

i really hope this would be the year the a's finally made it out the 1st round! they did lose the series to the yankees after being up 2-0 and going home. the famous jeremy giambi no sliding play is still fresh in my mind. i was at the game too!

i have said it before, the yanks have a horrible pitching staff....

As long as anyone other than the Yankees or Cardinals win the WS, I'll be happy. And even if the Cards do win it, since it wasn't the Yanks, it'll be ok.

With that said, lets go good baseball.

the only problem with the yanks, is even know imo they have one of the worst staffs in the post season, they do have the best offense. Historically pitching wins in oct, but the offense on some of the other teams is so weak, that they yanks might be able to do it with there offense. Lets be honest, if the yanks play oak next round, oaklands pitching is a lot better, but there offense is marginal at best.
NOMAR!!!

I knew this was going to be a good pickup for the Dodgers (I really wanted the Cubs to keep him).
Nomar is auditioning for a long term (3/4 yrs at this point) contract as a utility player next year. What better time to keep it up than in the post season?

If you want the best baseball you should be rooting for the Yankees - they have the best team.

I'm so disappointed in the Twins, what a story they've been all year. It's a shame to see them playing this way when it really matters.
If you want the best baseball you should be rooting for the Yankees - they have the best team.
I will never root for the Yankees. :whistle2:#

Thats like sleeping with the enemy. Rooting for them or the Cards.

Ideally, I'd like to see an A's/Mets WS.

The A's have choked the last two times they have been in this position, so don't be so quick to write off the Twins.

That and they've got Haren and Harden pitching games 3 and 4. Either way, if the Twins manage to win the series, Santana most likely won't be the game 1 starter in the ALCS.

Its looking more and more like I won't catch any more baseball until tomorrow.

Hopefully tradition holds up for the A's, but we have Radke going next who could be done after an inning. Then for game four (if needed) would they bring back Santana? None if it will matter until they start getting some timely hitting though.

hah i cant believe we got a double play tonight all at home. what a funny play..great game and won by just a little. boy i feel ike the dodgers suddenly have the john elway spirit and aways pull a late game comeback..good game.

Big win for the Mets today. Didn't get to catch the whole game because of work. Got to seem some of the game at work though. What was up with the Dodgers bringing in Penny?? Wagner had to give us Mets fans a scare again. Hopefully Glavine can pitch a good game and the Mets can take a commanding 2-0 lead tomorrow. On a side note the A's look really good and even though I think Tori Hunter is a great OF, that was a dumb play.

you know torii hunter wanted to be flashy so he tried to dive for it instead of playing it safe.:) yeah i dont understand why they brought in penny either...he gave up 2 runs on 2 hits. he wasnt effective at all. i thought grady little was going really overboard with that unless he just wanted penny loose for game 2. the whole bullpen gave me a scare. they started letting up runs like it was no tommorow. i thought maine would have lasted longer and he did pitch a decent game letting only 1 run up. hell yeah i hope glavine pitches well..he hasnt been hot the last 3 post season games he is in..he is due for a good game now. here is hoping the mets win tommorow.

Damn, forgot the game was this afternoon. Tigers up 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th after an effective but unimpressive performance by Verlander:

5.1 IP, 7H, 3R, 4BB, 5K, 1 HR, 5.06 ERA

Now we'll see if the bullpen can earn their keep.

Well Matsui just led off the 9th inning with a hit and pinch ran for him with Melky. And Cano is due up 3rd in the inning.

He couldn't hold down the Royals, so I'm not expecting much out of him today. He's more than welcome to surprise me, though.

I'll be damned, they're actually in this series.

good the yanks lost, too bad they couldn't get the yanks to use more of there bullpen though, with 2 more games to play over the next 2 days.

arod 0 - 4, with 3 lob, I wonder how the ny papers are going to treat him tmro?

But really there's no reason that Rogers and Bonderman can't win. Though I should be clear... I'm optimistic, but with extremely low expectations.

LET'S GO METS!

The Mets did well without Pedro for two months this season. He's not that much of a factor. The whole El Duque thing is very unfortunate but Maine has the ability to do well and we have one of the best bullpens in the MLB. The best thing that I like about this team is that if one or two people are slumping, other people pick up the slack.

I'm saying another Subway Series WS with the Mets taking it (read: not sweeping it). I just definately need it to be a win for them because I want the Yankees fans to shut the hell up around here.

Itll take a lot more than a world series win this year to get the Yankees fans to shut up.
