Modern Warfare 3 Discussion Thread - Out 11/8/11. New Multiplayer Trailer!

Mad, I already activated on the PS3. My question is WTF about the "founders" card and the separate code there. Honestly, I could care less about when it shows up. I got in on the PS3 and got the elite activated. I *may* need to run out and grab something for tomorrow, so I may be later than planned, but I will be on tonight.

Apparently that code is for activating Founders Status at a later date. I really have no idea what it does other than that and it might actually be resellable. It was originally anybody who activated Elite within the week got Founders but they changed it when they shit the bed launching the service to anybody who activated by the 30th.

I did not have to use the card to Activate Founders, I just installed Elite on the PS3 btw and logged in.

After spending a few hours in MP, I'll agree that the spawn points suck. I counted at least 6-8 times that I spawned in the middle of 3 or 4 enemies. Had a good time other than the couple of times we had crappy hosts.

Time to setup some custom classes now.

Used my prestige token for 2 hr double xp. Then registered for elite so got another 2 hrs. They stack I assume.

The spawning is terrible, but because the maps are not huge and because people like to spread out everywhere I can understand why its as bad as it is. The lag is almost as bad as MW2. The report player feature is great to put a stop to cheaters.

I am planning to be on most nights after 8pm PST time. Probably will not be able to play with the East Coasters too often with the time difference, but I can try.

Don't spend Prestige tokens on double exp, it's probably the biggest waste, IMO. You're better off substituting Mountain Dew and Doritos for a few lunches. Once you Prestige you can unlock gear/perks/whathaveyou to take with you the rest of your Prestiges.

Reminds me I have a token to spend and I found a Doritos code I need to input. Just put in 4.5 hours of 2x XP with two more 12 packs of Diet Mt Dew in the garage.

I think I'm hitting TRU at 9pm tonight. I may be on before that and I will be on after that. Stupid Skylanders....think I'm also going to get him a cheap RC car to wreck as well.

SKYLANDERS!

(I'm getting it for my 8 & 5 year-olds, at least that's what I'm telling my wife...)

It's just a group tag, unfortunately it doesn't offer any sort of clan functionality. I thought it would. All it does it pop up a little icon next to whomever else tagged themselves for that group which you'll have to go over their username and select "Show Common Groups".

Elite is disappointing more than anything else, I thought you'd be able to get together with people who were group tagged but that doesn't seem likely. It just pops up a Restroom Dude chest up with a + sign on their chest next to the score numbers in a lobby.

My friend made an actual clan for my friends and I. Not sure how though, since I'm not a founder.

They unlocked clan creation for everybody like a day or two ago. My only question is can you be a part of multiple clans, if so that'd be awesome. Likely not though.

Just started a clan (I think); look for CAG Central. It said something about an XP bonus, but I don't know if that's Clan xp or player xp or what...

That was the Founder bonus one time exp for joining or creating a Clan, which is why I held off of creating one, beyond other reasons.

I finally got around to ordering my copy of MW3, so it will be December before I'm on again. It should be fun to get in games with all the old players, like old times!

I started a clan for casual gamers over 30 who don't obsess about k/d ratio or prestiging before everyone else. They play because they enjoy it. If interested, log onto Elite then look up the clan, 30+Clan, and request an invite in the clan feed.

Good luck with that. MW2 and 3 have been about straight competition and kill cam whoring, hope you get what you want out of it.

Been playing mostly solo Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed. Sucking a lot, and trying to level up weapons. Do the weapon levels reset upon prestige, if so I wont bother using multiple weapons. I know Mad is sick and is playing Valkyria Chronicles and I have not seen too many people on when I was on. I tried a solo Survival mode and got to level 20 before being killed by armored goons cause I ran out of bullets. Definitely not enough time to go buy ammo, airstrike, grenades inbetween rounds.

Yes, the weapons all reset when you prestige. Personally I've still been leveling different weapons for the XP bonuses they give you for finishing certain challenges (250 kills, 500 kills, 50 headshots, etc).

i killcam whore all the time. I try not to but i feel I need to get the attention I crave. I will crawl up behind some sniper and wait til the last second and then stab them. everyone laughs. or I will support class and eventually get advanced uav and stealth bomber, wait til 7100 or so and then multi kill cam whore ending ;) i did that 3x in a row the other night and my clan was pissed cuz i kept doing it. lol

god i hate getting escort airdrops and the enemy shoots it down or emp's it. ugh
just give me juggernaught! ;)

Got to level 10 and the Juggernaut and ran out of bullets - no comments on my horrible shooting there. Anyway, hand-to-hand is not the way to take one out. If I was smart I would've started laying claymores. Sort of hard to do when you are getting pummeled. I considered it a lesson learned.

I agree on the time thing. If I am lucky I can get two of the three done, but not all three. I always try to hit ammo.

I may be on around 9pm Central - after my Dexter fix.

I was paired with some random dude on Survival last night, if you use the split level house in the middle as your base, you can make it to 2 of the 3 terminals between rounds. Predator missle >>>>X juggernaut.

I killed the 2 juggernauts with 1 predator, forgot what round that was. Then I used an airstrike to kill the 3 juggernauts, round 20?.

Can you play spec ops with 4 players, and can you play spec ops online with two players split screen on one console with a third player joining from online?

No and no. 2 player max.

I sent out a bunch of invites today (people on my friends list) for the "CAG Central" clan on Elite. If you want an invite just let me know or try looking up the clan on Elite.

Strange.....so in that last game I got booted to the main screen, assuming I was the host since everyone came along, then my system reset, then I get presented with the 4.00 update. Weird. And I sure as fuck need to learn to aim better.

Clan thread yet? Probably focus on playing Thursday and Friday nights. I beat campaign on veteran and that shit was frustrating (talk about a depressing end to things). Now to run clean-up to get all the trophies, then on to spec ops.

Moi "I'm calling it right now, Pablo"
Hito "You can't get Pablo on Dome"
Moi "Is that a challenge?"
*fade to match starting*

*Maniacal cackling can be heard but is seemingly ignored*
*More cackling as the Attack Heli is overhead murderlizing bitches*
*Attack Heli gets shot down and yet more cackling as the in game announcer notifies "Pavelow Incoming - Mad39er"*
Hito - "Mad, you hacker"

Just a some tips for making the MW3 multi transition a little easier.

MW3 is a mix of Black Ops and MW2 in terms of play stylings. While you can win a 2-3 on 1 run and gun action, you tend to lose 75% of the time if you aren't lucky and take out the first two before the third knows what hit 'em. With that comes one of my infamous numbered lists.

  1. Luck is not your friend, there are no Akimbo Rangers to save your ass.
  2. Don't bunch up.
  3. Rushing, camping and progressive moving are all valid tactics. They all have their uses and you should treat them with respect.
  4. Learn when to rush, when to camp and when to progress.
  5. If you're rushing against a camping team and dying, you're doing it wrong.
  6. If you're rushing against a rushing team, you're doing it wrong.
  7. Scoring 6/6 is better than scoring 20/20.
  8. Aim to break even, anything on top of that is a bonus.
  9. As long as you break even, you are not the one causing your team to lose at the end of a close match.
  10. Slow down, running is the fastest way to die.
  11. Stay away from the random nubs and anybody who does not have Assassin Pro. They're giant blipping red dots on the enemy radar.
  12. Most players are self-trained to react to the radar. Be unconventional and use your radar triggering to your advantage.
  13. The high ground is always better than the low.
  14. Don't shoot at the guy who will clear the corner he's at before you kill him unless you want him to turn around and kill you.
  15. Don't chase. Period.
  16. If you are being chased, fake panic and accept you may die, then do the most unexpected thing you can.
  17. Throwing tactical grenades ahead of you to "check" for hit markers is a waste of a grenade and gives away your position/angle of attack.
  18. If you stir up a shitstorm... do it by yourself, don't involve your team mates unless you give them warning first.
  19. Ammo goes quick, pick up any good looking dropped weapon. If it's an enemy gun you can always refill it by killing that same enemy and taking their ammo.
  20. Be responsible for yourself. Any decent player does not need a babysitter or a sandbox buddy, find your own space and your own kills.

After the last match I played last night you need to add a couple more to the list.

21. Do not open any care package unless your team members tell you they called one in.
22. If you choose to ignore #21, then only open said package when no one else is around.

Literally witnessed someone open that and kill the entire team except for me. Everyone but the noob knew it was an opposing team trap box.

Mad - your multi-kill C4 video is pretty good.

We should add another one - if I score higher than everyone on the opposing team I can openly mock them in-between rounds. :)

Can you change Clans easily? And was there a general CAG clan, or only CAG regional? If we make a CAG general clan we could probably get better bonuses than region specific? I will be on tonight after my PS3 updates.

Last night sounded fun, is it MWF game nights then?

what Mad created (CAG East) was a 'group'. I think you can be in as many of those as you want. (I'm in a handful)

what I created was a clan ('CAG Central'-as in, the centralized location for CAGs to gather on Elite. It was either that or my defunct FIFA CAG League's name, CAGchester United).

Don't know about jumping from clan to clan or joining multiples...haven't tried yet myself.

I think game nights are whenever there are enough of us online and someone (thank you evilwon) has the guts to send out all the invites and get stuff organized.

nothing set in stone as of yet.

and feel free to join my clan and then drop out as soon as Mad starts the 'cool' Clan.

I would.

I am not cool enough for Mads clan, lol. My MW3 stats are horrendous compared to my MW2 stats, which were not anywhere near noteworthy (did not even break my nuke cherry, sadface).

Will probably be firing it up again tonight. What do you have to do to join the clan? I really have not looked too much at the elite stuff.

CAG_East was a group tag that I started, group tags really offer nothing special. They're good for regionally identifying people you're playing against, that's about it. I thought the group tags would be a bit of a bigger thing. I think a CAG group tag would be fine for everybody though. Especially if you're not on everybodys friends list it lets us identify CAGs we wouldn't otherwise know without a CAG clan tag.

I'm so not starting up a proper CAG clan. If for whatever reason I do, it'll be for tournament competitions and not for general game play, which means tryouts and handpicked clan mates. I don't think anybody likes me competitively enough to go that far yet. I won't however join a clan because I'ma be selfish with my Founder exp bonus.

I'm still cracking up that time monkey, you and I were trolling the matches nuking people and we kept taunting you to nuke. Granted monkey is mo betta at the nuke than me.

I remember those few games, it was great, and frustrating on my part... ce la vie.

I played a few games last night and was able to get host advantage on the first 2 games. It is obvious when you are host cause you have a good 2 seconds before they even know you are there and shoot at you. Went on a nice 14 kill streak but was support class so was not able to call in any big guns.

I plan to be on tonight if any of you guys are planning to play.

I'll be on tonight, not that it helps. :)

You are right about the host advantage. I've had to check the killcam a few times when I never saw a shot or knife get off before mine.

Good games tonight, though we ended up losing most of the KILL CONFIRMED matches. We were rolling teams on DOMINATION and holding our own on TEAM DEATHMATCH. We need to remember to vote for certain gametypes/maps, as majority of the time it is only 3-5 people voting on a 18 member lobby. Good to see ToxicSky again though that first game I was like, oh its Toxic, and he is on the other team, and he just shot me in the face.

Seems like GroundWars is the place to be for a good mix of skills, and the spawning is not as bad. I do not know how Velo was rocking 20-30+ assists but damn that put him on the leaderboards on almost every match. Rocking a silencer and assassin pro got me into some good positioning to flank the enemy. I am still trying to figure out how the 3rd strike package works as it is multiple perks after hitting kill streaks (benefits mostly if you unlocked the good ones already through level-up). I just need to put the time in to hit those prestiges.

Langdon, I do not know where the invite to the clan is, I checked both from the PS3 and my PC and nothing shows up. You sure you got my psn_id correct? kaiser_von_metz

No clan invite here either. Did miss Mad tonight and his version of insanity to add to the mix. It was fun. I have to hip fire more often, that is one of my downfalls.

hey langdon, send me a clan invite as well. Had a good time last night for the while I was able to stay with the group. Apparently I shook the bed a couple of times when I got pissed that someone killed me. Wife wasn't too happy to get woken up like that. :hot:

OK, from what it looks like, you have to use the Elite web app to get into the Clan, that part of the PS3 app isn't up and running.

So if you're on the Web app, go to 'connect' and search for the Clan 'CAG Central'. evil, kaiser & now Quantam, you're all listed as 'pending invites' so hopefully it will let you in?

you know what, TakeoverClown13 is the only one who got in so far, maybe he can shed some light on to how he made that happen???

Yes I can. I clicked on the invite and that was it. I logged in through my computer though so maybe that makes a difference. I also have the Elite membership and founder status too. With as screwy as the whole thing is maybe that makes a difference too. The invite was under the invites tab and also the notifications tab so check there.

I also noticed that according to the site it will take me two months to progress from level 66 on prestige 1 to level 1 of prestige two. I know I am not that good but I think I am better than that lol.

That's stupid. Why have an app on the PS3 that allows you to see everything if you cannot join from there? Fail.

What clowns do they have developing the elite website? Horrible is too kind of a word to use. Looks like I'm in though. Sheesh....
