I don't think they'll make that 'mistake' during the playoffs, though.
 
Good God, what is the MLB record for runners left on base in the postseason because the Cubs HAVE TO BE VERY CLOSE TO BREAKING IT!!!!

I thought we got screwed when the Cubs didn't get the double play call that lead to the 3rd run but it was clear on the replay the umpire made the right call.

I guess this year's "Bartman" is Augie Ojeda. That son of a bitch ex-Cub has killed us in the series. That and the fact that Soriano and Ramirez forgot how to hit all of the sudden.

Why the fuck are the D-backs stealing bases up 4 in the top of the ninth? That's pretty shitty of them. That's like trying to run up the score in college football.
 
That's because the Diamondbacks don't start relaxing, even if they are up. If the Cubs were in the same position, and saw an opportunity they would of taken it as well.
 
Yeah with Soriano and Lee coming up as the 3rd and 5th batters (that is if Lee even gets to the plate), they are in a position for some major damage. I wouldn't let my guard down in a Playoff game. If this was regular season then yeah, it'd be an asinine move.
 
Well looks like I will be rooting for the winner of the Phillies/Rockies series. Actually scratch that, my rooting got my team eliminated in three, maybe I should ROOT for the D-Backs and curse them;)

last night jobba throwing the wild pitch was the best thing I have heard in awhile...I was one of my best friends wedding, in NJ, sitting at a table full of yankee fans. All of them were checking there phones for updates every couple of minutes. Top of the 7th, they were all grins going on about 1 - 0, jobba was just brought in, In jobba we trust, games over blah blah blah...seeing there faces about 2 hours later was just classic for me, as they were all outside going on and on, it is oct, it is the YANKEE's, we don't loose in oct...

I saw the highligts, yes it sucked that there were a shitload of bugs, but come on, throw a fastball. The analyst were talking about it on espn, no one could see why wouldn't you throw a 99mph fastball that most people don't get ahold of anyways, and with that bug/flea problem they wouldn't have a prayer. It was either horrible pitch calling by posada, or horrible coaching from the bench.

June =/= October. I'd like to see a Boston/Colorado series for sure. There isn't anyone on Arizona that's a compelling story to me. With the Rockies, you have Helton finally making the playoffs, the-should-be MVP Holliday, the minor-league coach's wife who got voted a playoff share, the ROY canidate TT....there's a bunch of stuff to look at and be interested in. The Diamondbacks....new uniforms?

Hopefully Boston and Cleveland can take care of business today and set up two great LCS matchups.
 
I can't believe people here are rooting against the Yankees. Do you not want to see Yankees/Sox in the ALCS? Are you not a baseball fan? I don't get it. Cleveland has a nice team and mabe they deserve to win as much as anyone else but for pure entertainment value in all of sports NOTHING beats Yankees/Sox. I'm not even a fan of either team but this is the matchup I want to see. If it doesn't happen I probably won't make a point to watch the games unless they are on and I'm home. I'd plan my day around Yankees/Sox though.
 
Cleveland is a superior team to the Yankees and therefore would provide a much greater opponent for the Red Sox. We're baseball fans, we just care about seeing the best teams play each other, not a really loud crowd.
 
I'm sick of the sports media considering the Yankees and Red Sox the two most important teams in MLB. There are 28 other teams out there and it'd be nice for some other teams to get the spotlight they deserve, especially when the Yankees up to this point in the series have shown they don't.

While I agree the Yankees/Sox playoffs are timeless and always end up being a classic. I think we are now in the years that other teams deserve to go higher in the playoffs and make the World Series. The Yankees had the game locked down from the early 90's all the way till 2001. If the Sox win the World Series again by playing some good baseball, or even the Rockies win the World Series It's a nice change of pace that baseball needs to see. The Indians certainly deserve advancing after battling the bugs and pwning the Yankees in game one. I wouldn't be suprised to see them beat the Sox but I am rooting for the Sox obviously being a Sox fan.

Oh, and nothing beats seeing the Yankees lose in the first round of the playoffs. Money can't buy everything is proven once again.

:rofl: Cleveland is not even close to being a superior team. The Yankees swept the season series from them and have had the best record in all of baseball since May. Even still, assuming it's a toss-up as far as who is the better team (which it probably is) I'd still rather see a Yankees/Sox series than anything else.
 
Trying to speak as objectively as I can (which is difficult for an dyed-in-the-wool Indians fan as I am ;) ), I think the rooting against the Yankees is the underdog effect. Even if they have a worse team, their history in recent years prevents them from being viewed as an underdog. I like variety in my championship games from year to year rather than a Yankees or Bulls-esque dynasty of constant wins.

As an Indians fan, no matter how good Cleveland was nor how horrid the Yankees were playing, they always seemed to be able to beat us. Going up 2-0 in this series feels really, really good from that aspect.

The Indians haven't won a World Series since 1948. I hope they get a shot at it again this year (and therefore needing the Browns to make it to the Super Bowl so that every Cleveland team gets into the Championship of their sport... HA! ;) ). But one game at a time. They need to finish off the Yankees, in New York, before thinking about the ALCS.

I totally agree. I just disagree with dafoomie saying that the NL team is a "sacrificial lamb." I think either NL team has a good shot against any of the AL teams.

Losing the season series does not make one a worse team. It merely means you lost those particular games. The Cleveland Indians have smacked the Yankees around this series because they have a much fuller, more well-rounded team with a foundation built on the 2-headed monster of Carmona and Sabathia. The Yankees have relatively weak pitching outside of Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera. The Indians have speed and adaptable hitting, while the Yankees are basically geared for overwhelming offense.

Cleveland has the pitching and other basic tools necessary to win in October. The Yankees don't. Furthermore, even if the Yankees were somehow able to come back and face Boston, they would likely be taken by the cleaners by Boston's fantastic pitching staff, so it would end up being a boring, predictable series.
 
watching the playoffs on tbs brings a much more important matchup to me. dane cook vs frank tv, in "which commercial will lead to my suicide?"

:rofl: Dane Cook wins that series in a 3-0 sweep for me. I've enjoyed Frank's stand up routines in the past and at least his commercials change it up a little bit. Still annoying but not nearly to the degree of Dane Cook.

:lol: I still don't get how people thought the Yankees were going to win this series easily over the Indians. All the announcers talked about in Game 1 was the vast difference in playoff experience and look how much good that did for the Yankees.

At least they're falling apart again so you don't have to endure this much longer. ;)

Well it is easy to say that now that they are down 2-0 but before the series started, why would it be so hard to believe? Sabathia and Wang are pretty much equal but nobody knew how dangerous Carmona was going to be in the Playoffs (this is his breakout year) so the safe bet was on Pettite and his experience. And Clemens vs. Westbrook? Not to mention this year's Yankees offensive numbers were the best in the league while Cleveland's best hitter is equal to Matsui (who is not even the 4th best hitter on the team) with 25 homers and 100+ ribbies.

There was no way the Yankees were going to win this thing, based on Cleveland's pitching and the Yankees' lack of it. TBS certainly wants New York to win, as Cleveland is a much smaller market.

Clemens was not expected to do much, with the injuries he had at the end of the regular season, having to sit out the rest of the regular season, etc. $20 million for 2.1 IP/3 ER. Great investment, I wonder if he'll fleece another team next year?

The season doesn't mean jack anymore and the stats can only say so much. The Indians are a great team, but the Yankees are not. They rely too much on one player to carry the load while the Indians spread the offense around and work on stringing hits together to create runs in crucial situations. The Indians have a great staff (Carmona was a completely unexpected surprise as a replacement starter), solid hitting, a good bullpen, and as a result a really good, solid team, but nobody ever believes that until they beat them.
