In my opinion, they are already proactively taking charge... Microsoft set the standard by doing one release per week, and hell sometimes they don't even do that.
Nintendo is offering 1 - 4 games every Monday guaranteed... that's taking charge to me. Sure, the games may not be what everyone wants, but they are still off to a great start.
The problem is that ever since the ESRB list got leaked, people get their hopes up every Monday until one of those games shows up, and, if it dosen't, they complain. I like knowing what's in the pipeline too but I'm also glad for the stuff they do put out.
Once I find a Wii, I'm getting a good majority of these TG 16 games since it's the one system I never got.
First of all, let's separate out quantity and quality. I don't care if Nintendo releases four games, if they're all poor to mediocre quality. This week isn't an example of that, but last week (Urban Champion, Baseball) was.
Secondly, let's separate out Nintendo's and Microsoft's catalogs. Nintendo has a rich enough profile to be able to release more than Microsoft. These games are already coded, and it's just a matter of prepping them for the VC, which I'm sure is pretty trivial at this point.
You may just have different expectations, but taking charge would be what's happening in Japan. Here we're getting a slow trickle that is making people more careful and cautious with their purchases. I suspect a good amount of Wii owners (including me) would have made lots and lots of purchases with a more substantial list and even let the excitement trickle down to purchasing lesser games just to give them a try. That's what these old-school games invite, right? You don't have to buy a couple and play them all the way through. You buy a bunch and just switch betwene them playing a level at a time and enjoying the nostalgia.
