Yeah but I don't own a credit card, so I have to buy points from the card.
You could always buy one of those Visa prepaid credit cards. I think the minimum is $20.00 anyway.

My only problem is they are a piece of paper, I could see the Wiimotes, Nunchucks, and CC, but the points cards...

I suppose... I find it more of a hassle of having to call stores, drive there and look around, and to check their websites to see if their in stock every other day. Simply going to the store and buying a prepaid credit card is a very simple solution.
as far as i know you don't have to pay tax if you buy the points through the online store
Depends on where you live. Some CAGers have reported having to pay tax, it depends on your state and county I think. Since they do ask you for the name of your county.

Interesting about the county part... I figured it was just for verification, but maybe it is tax. Though then again, if it really took Cook County into account, I should be getting charged the extra 2.75 percent Chicago tax instead of just 6.5 state... In any case, I'm not complaining!

No kidding! Though I can only imagine the licensing issues with the NFL there... I wonder if EA would have to OK it under their exclusivity agreement.

I bought 1000 points online on Monday and they charged me $10.83 w/ the tax. This is in Brazoria County, Texas.

I get charged tax if I buy my points online, I only bought 2000, the rest were used with giftcards at GC, but my target had like 50 the other day I went next to the Wii kiosk that has never been turned on since launch :/

No tax for me on points, and the cheapest I can get a card is $16.04 after tax at Best Buy with the GGC.

I'd gladly eat the $3.96 and just order points from my Wii.

TN charges tax when you buy online. I guess it's not that big of a deal though since I'd pay tax in stores anyways. Wish amazon sold them...

I don't think California pays tax...or at least Alameda County doesn't. I paid $20.00 for 2000 points. For a points card i pay about $1.50 tax, so i'll be getting mine online, thanks :)

I didn't have to pay tax when I bought points online and I'm in Los Angeles. That was a huge relief to me as 8.25% tax is a real pain. I have no reason whatsoever to buy a points card especially because my local BBs don't allow me to use a GGC on it.

I'd say it would be a safe assumption as far as the Virtual Console goes that anything that requires a third party license can be written off and won't see the light of day.

I'm pretty sure as well. I just don't know the exact details of those licensing agreements. Were they for a one-time release of the game? For all releases of the game? Was it a transferrable license that went to EA? Interesting questions, even if Tecmo and others won't test the waters themselves.

Article detailing why Chrono Trigger on the VC will not be. Apologies if this was posted elsewhere (did a search and came up dry). I just thought it was kind of funny in light of the "SE plays saviour to us all!!!" thread.
That's the most retarded thing I've ever read.

What kind of "Copyright Issues" are preventing Square from releasing their own IP on the VC?

And you mean to tell me they can't put Chrono Trigger on the VC because the original team is gone? What kind of fucking stupid shit is that?

This just sounds like "We want to port it to the DS and charge $35 for it instead of $8 so we're going to make excuses".

Here's a less generalized statement from the interview:

as for seeing Chrono Trigger return in any form (a port, remake or Virtual Console release – the last option currently being a 50-50 in terms of happening), it would come down to working out copyright details between the various members of the original team (most of which are no longer staff at Square Enix);
Mind-blowing. So apparently Squeenix doesn't own anything themselves?

But hey, it's up to them. They can either offer me the chance to pay them $8 to play it, or I can go load up the CT ROM sitting on my hard drive in Snes9x if they don't give me a legally viable alternative. Whatever floats their boat.

They just recently released it as part of Final Fantasy Chronicles (or Anthology, I forget which). Did something happen in the past 4 years or so that would change CT's legal status?

You neglected to mention the other "legally viable alternative." That is, the SNES cart itself.

But I'm right there with you on legitimizing theivery. I use this kind of reasoning all the time when my wife gets freaked out about Bit Torrent uploads. "Sweetie, I wouldn't have to download these old albums/movies if they were still in print! Big Business is MAKING me steal!"

Paying $60 - $100 for a cart that may or may not work (and will just die in the future), hooking it up to a system that may or may not work, and running through inferior cables to my HDTV really dosen't do the job for me.

I hate using emulators and roms for the most part, but this is just something shitty over at Square Enix. I really wish they would get off Final Fantasy's dick and realize they have 4 or 5 other series that the fans really love.

I got a feeling they are just going to "mysteriously" find a way to bring this to the DS or some other system and charge full price.

I agree with Roufuss 100%. There's no fucking reason SE can't release Chrono Trigger on the VC. The original team members being present makes no difference whatsoever.

I choose to view this as confirmation that we'll be getting CT protable, much in the vein of the SNES Final Fantasies, and I'm fine with that. I'll gladly pay them full price to own a legit portable copy, and I'll gladly shell out another $8 a year later when they put it on the VC. There are very few games that I'd do that for, bt CT's one of them.

Sorry, but that doesn't make any sense. Square can't release a copy of their own game? The article provides ZERO explanation. I'm not buying it.

Actually one of the linked articles implies that the development team for the game may have negotiated control of some of the IP...

I have no idea why someone would agree to that, but I've seen sillier things in contracts I've reviewed.

Nothing strange about content creators having ownership over their work, it's commendable in fact, but there should be agreements in place for automatic royalties to prevent the situation from causing roadblocks.

Does anyone remember "blackthorne" for the snes?? It was re-released a couple years back for the GBA , thank god I picked that up!!! But any word yet on a VC release?? I know its wishful thinking but hey that game rocks!!!! Another game i'm looking forward to is "mother" or as some people know it to be as "earthbound" this is another series id love to see on the VC , hell i'll prob. never get to play mother 3 , o well!!!!!

Finally found a Classic Controller at Gamestop... sorry, but imo the Wavebird sucks ass for SNES games, I felt like I was fighting it trying to play LttP and I heard Contra 3 isn't much fun with it either.

Congrats on finding a Classic, Roufuss! I've found that it's actually well worth the cash. Great controller.

Anyway, any vis on Monday's VC titles? I'm halfway expecting a dud week, but I'd love to come home and d/l Splatterhouse for the TG-16. :)

Classic's aren't hard to find around here. Local K-Mart's had about 6 for a week or two, GameCrazy's had one for a few days, Target had them when I went.

Nunchucks and Wiimotes are still pretty impossible to find.

Same.. the only thing that's easy to find around here is the memory cards. This is the first time I've seen a Classic Controller since launch, and I got there just as they were put onto the shelf, and the manager told me they will sell them extremely fast.

I was waiting before I played more LttP, or downloaded Contra 3, and was REALLY hoping I'd find out before Super Mario World hit so I'm happy.

It looks pretty small though, smaller than I was expecting

The only thing that pisses me off about the classic controller is the damn cord at the bottom.

I know there was a controller hack to move it to the top, but I don't trust myself enough, i'd screw it up somehow.

Yea, I got halfway through SC IV and had to stop because it was painful. It just wasn't designed for the Wavebird and it shows, imo.

I know some people love the Wavebird for SNES type stuff but ugh, not me.

Yeah, it's wierd - when I went on my Target run a few days ago (and also stopped at a GC, an EB, and a few other stores) each store had one, and exactly one, classic controller. It was a bit freaky. Of course none of them had the fucking Wii Points cards even (let alone remotes and nunchuks).

Dumb question - is it worthwhile to have more than one CC (say for Mario Kart 64)? I was under the impression from launch that only one 1 worked and you needed GC controllers for multiplayer. But the more I think about it the more that makes little sense. My initial impression may just have been because that's the way everyone here plays multiplayer VC games. I haven't even tried to yet, myself.

It was asked a long time ago if the games featured when the Wii Shop boots are the most recent... was this true or false?

Cause now it's Contra 3, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario Bros, Link to the Past, and Street Fighter 2... and I could see those being the most bought games.

Nintendo probably puts the cream of the crop on the front page (although Street Fighter 2 the world warrior, 8 fighters only...).

Yeah, but who cares about minutiae like that besides people like us?

How about just downloaded? I know for sure that the Internet Channel was up there after it's release for awhile afterwards.

Classics have been in abundance around here. I saw five or six at BB, a couple at CC, and some at Wal-Mart. They're actually getting Point Cards out too.

Wiimotes and Nunchuks are still MIA though.

I think I'm going to BB to get me a Classic tomorrow. Hopefully they have a Point Card or two as well.

I wonder, when Super Mario World hits, is it going to be the original version, or the version included on the Mario All-Stars / Mario World cart with the slightly different graphic set for Luigi and 4 save slots instead of 3 as in the original.
