I think the next "tier" of armor is Alloy, or Jaggi. Alloy will be available once you start mining ore, and Jaggi needs a bunch of Great Jaggi parts.

After 7 runs at the Jaggi event quest, I think I'm done. But the rewards are so good. Ended up with 4 Jaggi Heads, 3 King's Frills, and a good number of charms and armor spheres. Last time through we tackled my first Qurupeco and picked up a couple Strange Beaks and other parts.

I'm certainly not good at the game yet, since without a really good third of fourth person my friend and I are totally outclassed, but at least once we have that good third or fourth, we don't screw it up!

Edit: I will be returning for more Jaggi Head hunting. You can upgrade the Jaggi Mask with an additional 5 Heads, so I will have to go for 4 more this weekend.

Just beat Rathian offline and wow she was a complete pushover. Got hit twice. With a hammer and superpounding her head she is easy lol.

Edit: sigh I hate hate hate lagia.. and I hate hate water combat. Feels so slow compared to land.

I just got the last bundle set from my local gs yesterday and I have to say i am enjoying it. I have only been playing the single player game so far but hopefully i can get in with some sort of low level group online sometime soon. Thanks to all of you who answered my questions about the game and convinced me to get it^^
 
Me and these other guys have been questing for 2 hours and I think I might be getting new Rathian Armor soon. :D HR15 now, soon to be HR16. WOOT!
 
SSF4 has been limiting my time with the game the last 2 days, and will probably continue until mid next week.

At least I'm at HR12. Raithan over and over seems like the best strategy for ranks.

EDIT: HR18 almost, just need around 500 HR points. Soon to have online 3* quests. So tired now though, played for 4 and a half hours straight. Fought a Lagiacrus online, so much easier...

Played for a good 4 hours last night (and stayed up way too late). I almost have a full set of Jaggi armor and I also found out I suck using a great sword. I tried killing the qurupeco with one for almost 1.5 hours and kept failing. Tried it once with a SnS and won the first time. Now I unlocked the Switch-Axe which is awesome. I'm taking down great Jaggis with ease.
 
Anyone feel like playing soon? No CAGS came on last night. :/

HR17 now, if anyone has 2* online quests unlocked I could use your help to do another quest or 2, then I can fight Lagia online and get 3* online quests. :p
 
Was on last night but all CAGs were full so found a random to play with. Ended up getting HR 16 last night myself. Still need to kill that Lagia offline to get 5-star quests so I can upgrade my weapons. Won't be on until at least 11pm or later est time tonight as someone quit at work and I have to fill in the 3pm-whenever it stops being busy time.

I need to capture this Lagiacrus on my offline game, but I just don't see how I can by myself... He is simply way to tough underwater, but if I can end up doing it I'll be happy.

I'll edit this post to share my results. Time to plan my attack!

EDIT: Actually, not going to capture him yet. I'll just go do the powderstone quest and try to make Cha-Cha's mask. I want my Cha-Cha back! When I have him back I'll be able to do that cap quest (If I want to) a bit more easily.

I'll be playing again in about an hour online. I suggest you get some online experience Just-Joe it's an awesome experience. Offline is fun, but online is just way better. It all depends if you can get a good group that can work together and hunt nicely together.
 
Been using Hammer a lot recently, but I love the Great Sword and starting to love the Switch Axe as well.

Gonna take a break from MH3 for awhile now, I'm burning myself out of the game. Not awhile as in days, but hours, lol.

See, I can't get used to the great sword. The timing of the swing throws me off. Plus, you basically have to attack, dodge, attack, dodge, right?

With the switch axe, I love forward + attack and then attack again to do an overhead swing.
 
GS is usually Unsheathe attacks. Charge to max level if possible, attack, dodge, sheathe, and repeat. But, if you want to you can stay there and assault the monster with combos.

I'm a fan of most of the melee weapons, actually all of them. Switch Axe is an awesome weapon, that still will take awhile to master both sides. Sword mode and Axe mode.

However, the Hammer is an excellent weapon, not only because of it's large amount of damage and mobility, but because it can KO the enemy. It's attacks are limited though, and can't reach far up compared to some other weapons, but it's still a very nice weapon. (Then again I could be mistaken about the reach of the weapon).
 
During the hammer spin attack interrupt it by tapping the two attack buttons (I think) and it swipes up wide into the air. Been using the hammer with water splash damage and using the paralyzing switch axe + (so close to upgrading to the blitzkrieg but I'm still holding back so I don't get an uneven online experience).

Me and a friend were trying to do some capture quest but we kept killing 4/5 times :lol: I been restraining myself from playing for a little when I got to 4 star single player so that friend could catch up. We are now HR 7 and 6 respectively. Trying to get to 9 so we can do the other event quest. Maybe we'll be on later this evening.

Alright, I'm game. I'm going to hop on soon and hopefully can unlock 3* online quests.

I want a Volt Axe badly... Need 2 Lagia tails and 2 Isisium. (I believe?)

Am I correct in assuming I need to do some specific online quest to get to HR9? Wouldn't mind trying out the Ludroth quest if I were able to get there just by grinding HR, but if I need to beat other monsters I'll probably wait till I progress further offline (haven't even gotten around to the Qurupeco there yet).

You only need 3 Jaggi heads as I found out... IF you have 3 you can go and make it, it costs a fortune though... 30k...

Got to HR18 and now am at 3* online quests. :3

Yeah, you need 3 to make it, but 5 more to upgrade it (if I ever decide to do so - figure I'll just get the stuff now as a bonus to HR grinding). And the zenny rewards aren't too shabby either. I'll be able to afford the mask after the next successful run.

On to Recruiting > Wisdom 1 > Gate 33 > City 1. Think we'll have room for one more, hopefully someone better than the three of us in the city. :lol:
 
Lol, I may join even though I just got off... and now have to clean up dog puke in 2 spots... Guh...

I may just put it off so I can let it dry a bit, and it won't be as bad... (You guys didn't need to know about this, lol) So yeah, I may go hunting.

Hmm... Right now I just want to get a new weapon.. Might just go and make that LS and see how it goes.

I just want a Lagiacrus Switch Axe... Barroth one isn't worth it for the -20 Affinity.
 
Thanks for the help, Nirran! Managed to get my 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Jaggi Head in that one quest. I'm good for the future upgrade!

Good thing too since the damn felynes stole all my potions.
 
Haha, yeah, that's my friend. He was worse when he had a hammer!

We're going to be doing some 1* quests to see if we can't get up to HR9. Though considering my (lack of) progress in the offline, I'm not optimistic I can get through that yet.

How good is the online play with this. I have been holding off on picking this up due to fearing it would suck. I really loved MH1 on the PS2 and hated it on the psp so I have been waiting for some time for it to get a new console release, any feedback?
 
The online is pretty good. It's got a lot of people on there, and it's really fun. There are some moments of lag where you'll see monsters or other players warp, but it's not a problem really.

I'm up to HR14. I need 1 Rhenpolos Scalp to complete my Barroth Armor, which is something I definitely want for some upcoming Online quests.
 
Barroth armor is an armor I used to want, but I decided to just get Qurupeco armor since I could make it at the time.

I'll make the Barroth+ armor, when I can make it. I believe that's HR31+ armor.

Just need a few more Los scales and a rare scarab (need to remember where to find those), and I can finally complete my armor set.
