Mortal Kombat Armageddon

This thread is breaking my heart. This was supposed to be the perfect send-off for MK, but it sounds like a half-baked rush job. Maybe the Wii version will have some updates.

Guess I'll hold out awhile.

From what I've read, I'm disgusted, and I'm a huge MK fan. I'm not looking forward to the next-gen MKs either, because let's face it: they can't come up with cool new characters to save their life, the character designs have been consistently horrible since Deadly Alliance, and everything they do seems to be so half-assed.

I'll probably get MK:A before the year is over, but I'm not too pleased about the game/franchise.

I didn't realize the lack of character specific fatalities would have such an effect on presentation. Back during my MK and MKII days I picked characters based on the fatality I wanted to pull out at the end of the match. The generic arm ripping and decapitation fatalities sound like they will get old fast. But then again I loved the Johnny Cage glitch in MK where you can knock off multiple heads off a body. I'll probably wait to pick this up when the price drops. Hopefully, I'll be able to find the Kollectors edition on clearance like I did with MK Deception.
I tried out the game, beat Konquest and played the game for a while after that.

I wasn't too impressed. I'd personally give it a 5/10.

I like the fighting a bit more than the previous one, more focus on timing and countering, but the timing of the combos seems a bit off.

Konquest was too easy, I beat it in about 5-6 hours and almost got everything on my first time through. It's an uninspired Shaolin Monks mixed with normal Mortal Kombat. Most enemies can be easily killed with super moves and then you get back most of your magic power after using the super moves. The only real way to get killed is to get hit by the instant death traps.

Motor Kombat? It's a cheap knockoff of Mario Kart, simple as that. They should have left in Chess and Puzzle combat. Chess combat was fun because it combined strategy and MK gameplay.

No character specific fatalities? Yawn. Everyone pretty much has the same fatalities now and that's boring. They could have at least had taken the time and given everyone 1 character specific fatality and still had the "Dial a Fatality" in.

It still seems that some of the characters are unbalanced such as Moloch. He does up to 35% damage on simple combos, takes less damage from combos and is knocked down by very few moves.

And as for the endings...

They consist of your character doing some kata while a couple of sentences show up, that's it. How lame.

Not worth a purchase and barely worth a rental.
Totally agreed... I had to fight Moloch last night and the dude does 28% damage off of a simple two poke combo. Once he even did 44% off of a 4 hit combo, that's sick.

I beat Konquest mode last night, I don't know where reviewers pulled out the 10 hour mark on that one, because I went through in 5. The ending sucks ass.

I've already unlocked EVERYTHING in the crypt, other than the ? mark... I keep going up and down with this game, I mean I want to love it but I'm not feeling that same excitement and fun I do from any of the older Mortal Kombat's.

I gave it about 6 - 7 hours... once the initial "OMG I knocked that down into the acid bath" and "WOW there are 62 characters!!!" feeling wears off, the game just kinda feels blah.

Oh, I did mess around with the create a character, didn't really seem all that great.

man im about to get the damn ps2 premium version. . microsoft still hasnt announced bc.. fucking morons...

i want to also play some umk3.. does the premium version just have it on the same disk or are the extras included on a seperate disc.

i enjoyed conquest in deception so im sure ill like this.. plus im a mk freak.. love everythings that got to do with mk (minus special forces)

ill prob just swap it for the xbox one once its bc
Anybody who wants my copy, a PS2 regular edition, like new (never even read the manual), it's yours for $32 shipped.
That's why I'm glad I didn't buy it.
That's why I'm glad I didn't buy it.
I got suckered into the hype. I figure someone out in CAG land wants a copy regardless of how much me and you hate it, and hey, $10 off (game was $42 for me after tax) isn't so bad.

If I don't get a taker by tonight it'll go on Ebay.

Konquest kind of ended abruptly just when it was getting halfway decent, that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

This game is broken and unbalanced as fuck! Haha. It's just a matter of time before everyone figures out the aerial infinites etc. I'm sure a good amount of ppl know by now. Fear Moloch.

at least with those infinities the game will feel alot like UMK3 ;)

UMK 3 was actually good, though.

I just wish someone would buy my copy so I'll have the money for Bully or SMT: Devil Summoner.

I'm still amazed at some of the negativity towards the game by MK fans around the net. I played it the other day with a mix of friends who've either never played an MK game or are diehard fans and we all had a good time with the game. I disagree with ViolentLee's yahoo review in the regard to not being easy for newcomers to pick up, the simple special move combos and new fatalities made it easier for some of my friends to play.

I am disappointed in some of the places were they obviously cut corners since this is advertised as the overall climatic MK showdown, but otherwise it's pretty much what I expected from the series.

yea just gettin around to mess with the game...i beat blaze already.. kinda pain but w.e

the intro was pretty bad ass....i dont want to play konquest too much since im hopin it'll be bc soon

Does any one recommend which version to get. PS2 or Xbox? Eventhough PS2 has the Kollectors Edition with UMK3, I also very interested in the graphical differences between Xbox and PS2.

so far im impressed with the 5.1 sound with this game....

also where the hell is fujin?? moloch seems alot smaller

edit.. oops found fujin

Absolutely love MK:A, then again, I love MK, so it's pretty muchg a given.

The only thing I don't like is online; too many people online play just to win, so they always have to play as the broken characters and are almost always cheap a-holes. Well that and Blaze being pretty damn cheap.

My room mate pick this up for xbox today and had been playing it pretty steadily since he got it at about 6pm. His only gripe is that there aren't too many on Live with it. If anyone has it for xbox, feel free to add his tag, PitifulHeart to your list...
Lookee what I got to complement my Deception Scorpion standee..

that's just ten types of amazing/ridiculous/shiny
nice, how does the deception standee look like?

i had this for two days from hollywood video and i just finished konquest mode. what a bunch of garbage. i played through it and all i got was a lame ending. the aerial infinite hack makes this game way too boring. the kreate a fatality is retarded because its just chaining stupid moves like pulling arms off or taking out the heart. kreate a fighter is nothing new in any game. the only fun thing about this game is motor kombat. this is for the truly hardcore mk fan..imo casual gamers should stay away until the price drop.

Did I mention how much I hate you

Been playing alot of Knoquest mode and I'm not liking what I've played so far. It kinda like Shoalin Monks, if it was made by three people in one week. Everything about the mode just feels tacked on.

Regular ole Kombat is still a blast, however. I like all the new versions of the older characters, and I flat-out love the new aerial kombos. Shame they slipped up in the testing and a few infinte air juggles found there way in the game.
I'm still amazed at some of the negativity towards the game by MK fans around the net.
I'm not really. Let's face it - MK's strongest suit is its storyline, and when they cut corners on stuff like cinematics/graphics that push that along, it's going to suffer. Having every character's ending essentially "the same" (they do their form while a voiceover guy talks about what happened) is inexcusable.

Disappointed they took out a fighting style for each character. Would have much rather that they left the 2nd style in and removed the weapon instead, especially since many stages have a pick-up weapon laying around. Taking away one of the styles makes the game feel more robot-like than it already was.

Blaze is the biggest pussy ever as a final boss. Must be that when you combine Inferno and Astaroth you only get half the power of each. Don't see why they couldn't have just put Onaga in there again, he was ridiculously tough.

I enjoy the game, the extras are nice, but for the base MK game this is a pretty weak way for the OG series to go out.

Opening movie rules though, as per usual with the last several MK games. The (XBox) graphics look fantastic on an HDTV, if the backgrounds were a little fancier it could be easily mistaken for a 360 title. Not sure if the PS2 version supports 720p or not.

the game is ok... im dissapointed about the endings as well....

this is still not fucking bc.... im trying not to play it so much on the original x because i know i would haev to start from scratch on 360

Finally got around to buying it (thanks TRU), and I wrote a little review for it:

Although fairly identical to the last two Mortal Kombat titles, there are some new features and extras worthy of a look.

The Mortal Kombat formula, as far as the current-gen titles go, is beginning to show its age. Regardless, and on the flip-side, that's not necessarily a bad thing, as the formula is pretty solid.

They've improved some elements and features - specifically the "Konquest Mode", which is more in the vein of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, and not the cumbersomely tortuous pseudo-RGP that appeared in the last Mortal Kombat: Deception - but, sadly, they've taken a step backwards in some areas - character-specific Fatalities, come to mind, which have been replaced with the not-so-good, not-so-worthwhile "Kreate-a-Fatality".

I'm not sure why Fatalities were scrapped - if it was to breathe new life into the fights, or what - but I'm leaning towards the possibility that they didn't have time to program Fatalities for the new, massive roster (specifically the larger characters).

In addition to scrapping one of their larger selling points, they seemed to scrap another: dynamic character endings, which have been replaced with an anti-climactic voice over, telling you what the ending is.

The character creation mode is fairly cool, and is treading close to copyright infringement -- you can make anyone from The Incredible Hulk from The Terminator, to Street Fighter's Akuma. It's pretty fun, and a good incentive for replay value, as you have to earn Koins, (which can be earned in the game's three modes of play) to purchase creation pieces. The down-side is that you can only have one custom character per profile... which was an odd choice.

Motor Kombat, which is Mortal Kombat meets Mario Kart, is fairly fun... but you'll get tired of it fairly quick, as you'll see all there is to see within 15 to 30 minutes of tinkering with it. I wish they'd have resurrected Puzzle Kombat instead...

The graphics, although good, are showing their age -- as is the sound, and game play.

I'd say that this is a must-buy for Mortal Kombat fans... but, to be safe, I'd give it a rent. If anything, this game is worth it for the revamped beat-'em up Konquest Mode and to see all of your favorite Mortal Kombatants on one, massive Kharacter Select screen.

Boon pretty much hinted at this game never being bc... He said that the whole MK series is changing on 360, PS3, Wii and there's no real incentive if one of the creators doesn't want it bc

I've been having more fun with Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 than I ever did with Armageddon... it just dosen't feel like MK anymore, imo. Ripping the game of its story for the most part and taking out fatalities just make alot of characters feel generic now.

This will most likely be the truth for me... that is when I get MK:A... I made the OP and I don't have it

The one thing I will give this game props on is using Reptiles costume from Shaolin Monks, and the fact that Chameleon got an incredibly bad ass costume.

I hated Rain's costume, he looks like such a douche now.

I don't know, maybe some people like it, I think it looks fruity and stupid.

I kind of agree - I disliked MK3 compared to MK2...but I'm really enjoying UMK3 on XBL Arcade, even if I still wish we got MK Trilogy instead. It's arguably my favorite XBL game to date.

That said, I don't know if I'm enjoying it more or whatever, but I think I've been playing it more.

still watiing for fuckign bc.. fuck microsoft cmon.. ive been entertained with umk3 but i really want to continue conquest..

rain's costume doesnt look too bad.... i actually wished they had a more old school ninja like reptile costume.(i dont like the redesigns of him, he was my fav character from mk1 to umk3.. they fucked him up since mk4)

my fav mk was always mk2.. mk3 was ok.. umk3 was better.. trilogy was the best..

Yea, I was never a big MK 3 fan either, but I've been playing it a ton on the 360 and it's really quite fun.

Well his is purple Rain, so it's fitting he gets a fruity costume. If it's any cosilation, his alt costume looks more like a traditional pallette ninja.

I love MKA. Yes the story (outside konquest) is complete rubbish, and the fatalities have been with some crappy KAF. However, I've been having a total blast playing with all the characters. As far as current gen games I place it over Deady Alliance, but below Deception (which remains my favorite MK game).

BTW Chameleons costume changes colors based on what attack he does (all of his specials were taken from the other palette ninjas). looks pretty cool.

Nearly a decade later, and I just got the joke for the first time.

*chortle*
Once they make this game BC with the 360 I will consider picking it up.
Bumping this, because when the new BC update comes out it will be on there, and I will finally be getting it...
