Many of us would avoid paying $30 for a game, even if brand new.

Some games, for whatever reason, are never sold at a reduced rate.

What games, in your experience, did you absolutely *have* to buy, despite your extreme reluctance to pay full price for it (or worse yet, above retail price)?

I'm not good enough of a CAG to recall some horrible expenditues on games (although an import PS2, HDD and FFXI two years ago was around $450 altogether).

I did have my first CAG bonanza today - I'm not sure if my TRU is late, but they had a bunch of 50% off titles in stock today, so I picked up DC NFL 2K1, DC NHL2K, Unlimited Saga, Galerians: Ash, GC SSX3, GC True Crime, and Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution for $55.53. I'm pleased.

myke.
...just received his MSX in the mail today!!!!

The most expensive game I had to get was Street Fighter II For the SNES when it first came out, that junk was like $75 inclding tax. The most I ever spent was $200 (non tax) for the Sakura Taisen Collection for the DC. Hell I even spent $45 on a SGGG VMU. I love the DC.

Yeah there were some horrible 69.99 + tax SNES games back in the day. Super Street Fighter II and TMNT Tournament Fighters stick out. I remember The Legend of Gaia or something costing 74.99 to 79.99? Man I hope no one paid that.

SSFII was only 59.99 at Best Buy the first week of release.

Probably the $75 it cost for X-Men vs. Street Fighter and a 5-in-1 cart for the Saturn. That one game made my 32/64-bit decision for me as I just HAD to have a Saturn. Granted, I played the hell out of it, so it was worth it.

that game is really great. I can't wait to get a set of Arcade Sticks to play some more of it. Everything abou it is nearly flawless. That is one game I would say is well worth 75 bucks (I have spent a ton of money over the years on that game in the arcades)

I still pay the big money if the release is good enough. For instance, I'm definitely getting Halo 2 for close to full price, when it's released in two months.

dam well i didnt buy it back then but my first n64 game was mk trilogy and it was like 79.99 at sears if i remember right...

dam 64 games were expensive

yea I got Crusin USA and KI Gold and they were 75 a piece when the N64 first came out

pokemon stadium for 60 bucks.

I think that's the biggest price I paid on a single game.
But I've paid for quite a few games full-priced, sad to say.

I paid $44.99 (After GGC) for Dynasty Warriors 4 on its release day. I played that game for over 200 hours though, so it was well worth it. Next full priced game purchase - Shadow Hearts: Covenant.

$69.99 for a SEALED copy of Tales of Destiny 2 for PS One from Defender's site. I had to have it because I had never seen one in person and it was the only way I'd get it and I am not interested in fooling with Ebay right now.

I've so rarely paid more than 50% of SRP it's hard to say. There was a period when I was almost suicidally depressed and spent like $70 on a SNES RPG because I didn't care if I had enough left to buy grocceries the rest of the month or ever at that point. Can't recall which RPG it was, though.

I got Turok at Sears when it came out in 1997. Not sure if it was $79.99 or $89.99 it was a long time ago, and it wasnt my money so yea. But I know it was at least more than $70.

SWG, I almost forgot about it I think I have blocked it from my memory. What a sad, sad waste of 50 bucks, and I will never let my former roomate live down recommending it.

But since finding this site late last year I don't think I have payed over $20 for a game. Skies of Arcadia and Cubivore are the two I payed the most for @ $20 each. I can wait for most games now, too many unplayed games for new games to be a "must buy". The only chance I will break that is with some big Nintendo exclusives coming up, they never ever go down in price or have big deals. But already have MP2 preordered with the gamerush trade-in deal, only $15 out of pocket including what I paid for the trade-ins.

I think lufia 2 on SNES was 75$ when I got it, that would be the most. Then games like perfect dark and mario rpg that were 60$ or so. Oh yea also earthbound was 64.99, i still have the tag on the box.

never myself paid more than 40 for a game, i always either wait a week for a deal or wait half a year and snag a non-gh copy at 20$(mostly GT3, every tony hawk)

i have paitience so its all good

i believe that back in the day i payed $80 (or was it $60) for Mario Kart 64 when it first came out. Well, i'm not sure exactly but remember back in the day when standard SNES carts were $60 (especially rpgs). damn i wont even spend $50, and barely maybe $40 for any game nowadays.

I remember paying some serious money for Phantasy Star for SMS, I think it was around 70-80 bucks if I recall correctly. I had to mow a lot of lawns for that one. And to think I then got Dragon Warrior for FREE from Nintendo Power...

Well, I paid 200 for Steel Battallion on the XBox when it came out. I didnt get into it too good. So, I let the CAG in me get the best of me. I sold it for 300 on ebay when they were considered rare.

$64 for Valkyrie Profile off of eBay. I saw the video of Freya dealing like 1 million damage to some enemy and was like "Oh shit, I need this now">
yeah i paid like 60 or more for pokemon stadium but thats the olny game i ever paid over $50 for
Yup me too. Even before I met this wonderful sight, most of my game buying consisted of whenever I could get enough cash for more pricier games *yes I know sad* or GH type titles, also until they opened my Fry's.
$100 for Phantasy Star 4 on Genesis
Same here. Except I got my copy for $85 or $90, if I remember correctly.

Damn good game, though.

Soul Calibur II was the last game I payed the full $50 for in recent memory. I can't think of anything more expensive than that in recent memory

I remeber paying $70 for SNES games like Street Fighter II and Final Fight. But the worst might be $60 for Rampage for the NES. Which I passed the very same day I bought.

I think he meant games that never dropped in price. For me it was Final Fantasy 2 and 3 on the SNES. Those still go at like $40-$50 on ebay cartridge only. Secret of mana to. I sold just the cartridge on half for $48. Those squaresoft games never went below $40-50 ever.

Passed? You weren't supposed to eat it.
90 dollars for a sealed earthbound game on ebay. One HELL of a steal!!!!
Damn, I can remember when Best Buy had those for $5 and they just sat for months. If I'd bought a few dozen and kept them stashed away for a few years...

I think software etc. (or was it gamestop?) charged $55 for sonic adventure 2 when it launched, but I really wanted to get it signed by Yuji Naka, so I unded up paying that much.

Probably not a bad investment, come to think of it.

Chrono Trigger SNES used copy for 100.00 and Shining Force 3 for 125 used for Saturn.....ill never pay more then 50 for a game ever again!!!

Steel Battalion. I didn't even have an xbox, so I had to buy an Xbox plus Steel Battalion. But it was worth it, ohhh was it worth it. (goes off to play Steel Battalion)

$70 for Donkey Kong 64. What really pissed me off was that I had already bought an expansion pack for Turok 2, but they didn't offer DK64 without the damn thing.

I actually paid about $60 each for all my N64 games, but I don't regret it. Those were some damn good games.

Well, yes, that *is* what I meant. On the other hand, I find it far more interesting to see what games cost in the past. I had almost entirely forgotten that. Since many of you mention the high cost of cart games, I recall buying a copy of SFII: Turbo for $50 somewhere, and returning it at K-Mart, where it was listed at $75.

I was not an ethical youth.

Keep them coming!

myke.

Star Fox 64. Came bundled with the revolutionary ?Rumble Pack. I think it was 70$
Great game by the way, got lots of play out of it.

Once a Gamestop B&M charged me $55 for Final Fantasy X. I don't regret it one bit, though, one of the best games for PS2 IMO.

Oh yeah. I prolly sunk a good $100 into it at arcades, and even entered on of the rare local tournaments for it, and didn't do too bad. And I'm sure I've played at least $100 worth of games on the home version. That, and nothing beats going Double Jug on my friends.

Most moolah I ever spent on a game was 65$ for Shenmue 2, the european import. It was damn worth it. Btw I found Valkyrie Profile at Gamecrazy used for 30$ around 6 months ago
