Guess Who
thx for the headsup.

ghostbusters is money.

question: Is Raging Bull the special edition or the one disc version?
Deepdiscount lists the single-disc Raging Bull as anamorphic, while the old OOP release isn't. I'd put my money on it being disc one of the recent 2-disc set, repackaged for half the price ($9.12 on DDD). So, this is probably the new single-disc, which ain't half bad for the price. But, of course, the set is godly and cheap.

I think Raging Bull might be the one-disc version. This is what was advertised in the most recent Fry's ads. I'll pick it up for sure if it's the 2 disc version.

If I have money, I will pick up Ghostbusters Collection and Over the Top.

If you have the other releases of Ghostbusters 1 & 2, there may still be reason to pick up this new pack. I'm not sure about 2, but I know that Ghostbusters 1 has a brand new remastered transfer. Also, all the previous extras are carried over here and there are a couple of episodes of "The Real Ghostbusters" thrown in.
Hopefully that 12 Monkeys is for the newest edition they released.
For the 1,000th time, yes its the newest edition as that's the ONLY one available now at CC. :D

Wasn't 12 Monkeys in CC's $7 bin a couple weeks ago? o_O I got my copy there...
Is the Newest edition the gold cased one?

Yes it is, but now some copies are coming in with a stanard black case. Same DVD otherwise so no need to worry.

The one-disc DC version of Alexander is the fullscreen release. The widescreen DC is two discs (for some reason). Bad, bad movie anyways..

Unbelievable deal on the Ghostbusters set, I had no idea it'd be that cheap. Judging by BB's website, it'll be $12.99 there next week as well, most likely..

I just hope that the set sells well so that we finally get Real Ghostbuster box sets on DVD.

The funny thing is that the "directors cut" is actually several minutes shorter than the original theater cut.

Besides, they are probably presuming that people who buy P&S DVDs don't like extras so that's why its only a one disc edition for them.

Here's the skinny on the Theatrical & Director's Cut discs:

The Director's Cut has had 18 minutes of footage cut from it. 9 minutes of new footage are added, making the DC a total of 9 minutes shorter than the Theatrical. The DC is a mess of a film, though, with several jumps backward and forward through time... and is overall confusing. If you liked the movie, buy the Theatrical, or if you are curious, buy both.

Sweet. That's a freakin' awesome price on the Ghostbusters set. I'm such a GB whore. I wonder who'll have the cheapest UMD price...

Excellent price on Ghostbusters! Traded in my copies in anticipation of the set. Too bad there aren't that many extras in this release, oh well! Someday we'll get that Ray Parker Jr. video.
any update?
I've been refreshing this thread like crazy too. Ah, well. Guess Trust is taking a (not undeserved) break this week

Quite frankly, i dont think we should have to suffer b.c TSD is taking a break! ;)

Just wanted to confirm for those who are wondering whether or get the Ghostbusters set:

I was looking around on the web, and saw some screenshots and early reviews: Both films have been remastered and completely smoke the original transfers. Awesome picture quality.

Yeah, it looks really good from the shots I've seen. I was originally planning to grab this next week, but I think now I may save it for the next DDD 20% off sale. I know, I write/say that about a lot of things, but they've spoiled me.

What site has the screenshots?

There's six years in release difference and there's a better transfer. Ignoring the other features, can that really be considered a double dip when the new set is on sale for $12.99 everywhere?

Not really, espically since I see Ghostbusters 1 and 2 on sale for 9.99 each everywhere else... getting both movies for 12.99 with a better transfer and extra features will be awesome, I'm glad I waited.

Ghostbusters 2 is widely considered to be a crappy movie. Most people would just grab the original for $7.50 when it goes on sale, since the disc that's out now is more than satisfactory as it is. I know plenty of people who have waited years for the first 2 Godfather films to become available individually, just so they wouldn't have to own the third movie. People are snobs, especially when it comes to silly things. There's some stuff from the first Ghostbusters DVD that isn't carried over to the new disc, so there's another point for those who don't want the second one.

What isn't carried over from the original disc? The only thing that I can think of is the MST3K-style commentary. I don't think I saw that on the list of features.

The video commentary is gone, just the audio remains now.

I don't know on this one folks... "Ghostbusters" itself actually looks a little too color saturated at times on the new Region 1 version (look at the screen cap of Slimer being captured). I'm still going to buy the boxset as I don't own "Ghostbusters 2" yet which does look far better this time around. :)

That's the main complaint right now with people looking at the screenshots. GB1 looks like there is too much brightness/color and there is some blooming around the proton rays. However, maybe it'll look better in motion, or with some TV calibration.

Yeah it is hard to judge something by just a screencap. I will admit that for the most part the new remaster on GB1 does look better - finer details are more noticeable, colors are more solid, etc. I'll just have to wait and see it in motion myself when I watch the new version.

(That's if I ever finish watching 24 Season 3 lol)

I have a question. I just picked up the new Ghostbusters gift set today. I grabbed it, paid, and went out the door because I was in a hurry. When I got time to look at the package, the back says that Ghostbusters is in full screen 1.33:1 and Ghostbusters 2 is in widescreen 2.40:1.

Did they put out more than one version of this new set or is this a box misprint? Or is origional theatrical aspect ratio of Ghostbusters 1.33:1? I only buy widescreen movies if possible and I want to return it if i grabbed the wrong version.

Its a misprint. GB1 is 2.35:1. I'm assuming whomever did the packaging accidently put the aspect ratio for the cartoons instead of GB1 in that spot.

Thank God. I had a mini-hear attack.

It'd be in their best interest sales-wise to correct this for future shipments, as a lot of people DO care about original aspect ratios..

I agree. I can't believe they let something like that slip and fixed it in the promo shots. The could at least put a sticker over that part that corrects the mistake.

I scored my Ghostbusters set today; there was a bunch of Wedding Crashers DVDs laying around so I went ahead of snaggled one of those as well.

It is pretty crazy that they misprinted the box. I am sure an recall exchange will be issued soon.

Doubtful as this has happened quite a few times before (ie: Harsh Realm).

A recall would be possible. They recall sets for dumb reasons sometimes. They just recalled the Bill & Ted 3-disc set because on the phone booth, there is an obviously fake 555 phone number that when you call it (1-800-555-6969) you get a phone sex line or something.

Also, DavisDVD (I think that's the website) has a corrected cover for the GB set, so they might just start shipping the corrected sets.
