From now until further notice all preplayed PS2,XBOX and GC titles are 3.99. From the Movie Gallery store I work at I picked up 2 copies of Mercenaries 2 and Guitar Hero 3.

Also if your Movie Gallery has a Game Zone all preplayed Wii, 360 and PS3 games are 25% off. Most of the next gen games that are preplayed in the Game Zone sections come as trade-ins so you can generally find good copies its just that the selection wont be as good as a Gamestop.

Edit by Io - For those with Hollywood Videos around note that this sale applies only to stores that DO NOT have Gamecrazy's attached. Also, it is still highly YMMV at any given store. Some don't participate (manager's discretion) and some are just clueless and think you are talking about the concurrent $3.99 movie deal (which requires 2 rentals and only applies to movies $12.99 and under). I've gone to about 6 stores and have gotten about 4 different versions of the deal. There is a code they can scan that makes all these games come out to $3.99 no matter whether you rent or not and no matter what the original prices are - it is just YMMV whether they can A) Find that code and B) Choose to apply it to the games you want to buy ;).

My local HWV, actually the only one within 30 miles, was completely stocked with good games. They didn't have any signs, but the guy at the counter knew about the sale. Just ask, and make sure to clarify it is for older-gen games because they might not know what you're talking about. I only bought $20 worth, but now I'm thinking of getting some for my friends for Christmas.

Had another amazing haul tonight! For not having many HWVs in our area (3 total), I've made out awesome at each one. Visited the Chelmsford, MA store tonight where there were two really nice employees working and this store actually had a WORKING buffer machine (Woohoo!). It took us like an hour and a half to get there because of traffic from all the slacker last minute Christmas shoppers lol. Got a total of 21 games including some Wall-Es, Call of Duty 3's, Star Wars titles for all systems, Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, GTA San Andreas, and Sims 2's. The guys told me that this is a pretty low traffic store and they rarely do pulls, but just recently got a corporate pull for LOTS of games so I really lucked out.

Also at our local HWV, had to exchange some games that were in crappy condition and picked up some fresh pulls: God of War 2, a couple Lego Star Wars IIs, and a couple Godzilla Unleashed.

I keep getting the "only 19.99 and under" speech at one of my HWV's. Now what's interesting about that is their pricing is insane. Mario Tennis 24.99. Really? Is someone really going to buy the mauled, no manual HWV copy of Mario Tennis for 24.99? Similarly, did it ever occur to you (Mr. Super Smart Manager Guy) that the reason you have 15 copies of some of these games is because they're priced at over 19.99?

Well, unlike most deals, which I get shut out of because I live in the middle of nowhere, , I actually have a Movie Gallery about 50 miles from here and happened to be passing by.

Not a great deal for me, since 90% of the games were marked 4.99 anyway. I did pick up Guilty Gear X2 for 10 dollars off. Which was pretty cool.

I had a bit of trouble checking out though, because none of the employees even knew there was a sale until I pointed out the sign hanging from the shelf. And it took 10 minutes for them to find the coupon on their computer.

remember guys, if you go in to a HMV or MG and they dont know the code, just tell them what it is: "HVGM399" thats the code for the games.
remember guys, if you go in to a HMV or MG and they dont know the code, just tell them what it is: "HVGM399" thats the code for the games.
Does the HV code work at MG? I thought the MG code was Copp399 or something.

coppg399...that's for MG's though. They HAVE to manually type a code for each game; their computer does not make the deduction, nor do they have a barcode to scan. From what I've seen, HWV's just have a barcode to scan per game.
Does the HV code work at MG? I thought the MG code was Copp399 or something.
You're right. H-wood and Movie Gallery do have separate codes. Movie Gallery employees can actually scroll through a list of all the current codes right on their computer, though I'm not sure about Hollywood.

I'm surprised there was much left there. Perhaps they got a new shipment. I also have a higher cutoff than most for GS flipping, $6 before bumps, so that I at least double my money. So I did leave some SW: Rep Commandos and stuff like that laying around.

I hated that Chelmsford HWV when I was there a week or 2 ago. The chubby little Asian ringing me up said I couldn't buy multiple copies of games, so I ask him why (considering they are having a major sale to get rid of their stock). And he says to prevent resale, to which I questioned "Are you still buying last gen games even though you are having a major sale to clear them out, and, if so, are you paying more for the titles than you are currently selling them for?" He answered YES! I have no idea how f'd HWV's business plan is, but that is messed up. So, I told him I was planning on selling to GS, and that if I had more time (I was in a rush), that I would have called corporate from the store to see if that was truly a policy that they have in place. Luckily, from my haul of 15 or so games, I only had one double (my best one, though, Lego Batman :bomb:).

Also, check out the Medford, MA HWV. They have at least a handful of the $5+ TIV games that I left (plus a copy of Strikers that I left before the TIV went up to $7 :bomb:). If you feel like making a bigger hike, the one in Waltham has a few good ones that I left (I bought 20 or so games at that store, it was a gold mine) including a Conker for XBOX that I left before TIV went up. Avoid Needham though, they have nothing but crap, unless you don't mind TIV closer to $4, then you might find a few.

Also, if you are looking for a very few strings GS to trade in games. There is a brand new one on Broadway in Malden. Just make sure you keep them in the case or they charge a $.50 missing case fee. They are great about not doling out refurb fees, and the employees are nice as hell. I've traded in about 85 games there without any problems.

A missing case fee?!?! WTF? Hope that doesn't mean all will start doing that. I get refurb fees as it is every 2-3 times I visit so it's not too bad. I'm still way up on profit. Might need to sell another Wii to offset my actual spendings again.

I think all have the ability to do it, but most managers don't know how. It is hidden in the Hot SKU menu. It is a pain, but the manager at the one I go to doesn't care if it is a generic case or anything like that. I was surprised when I first heard about it as well.

OMG, thank you so much for all the info! I thought the only stores we had were Saugus, Medford, and Chelmsford because none of my other searches were pulling anything up. I wouldn't have had any idea there were stores in Waltham or Needham if you didn't mention it! I set my minmum at games that are atleast $5.50 base trade at GS and have managed to pull quite a few higher $10-$12ers. I'm sorry you had a crappy time in the Chelmsford store. That "policy" is BS because the 2 clerks sold me game multiples with no problem. They just asked to make sure I knew I had 3 copies of Call of Duty 3, etc. They were also wicked cool about buffing the horrid discs that the other HWV's sold me. Have you checked any of the Movie Galleries in NH? We're thinking about hitting up the 2 in Manchester.

Sweet, coming home for Christmas, I was finally able to hit up two Hollywood Videos today. I know from certain posts here that they've already been raided, but I was able to pick up a few nice things for myself, including Gotcha Force, Mario Superstar Baseball, Silent Hill 4, Sly Cooper 2 & 3, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Plus, I found a Futurama, Lego Star Wars II, and GTA: San Andreas to flip. I think I left a lot of potential 2:1 flips behind, but I was more interested in finding things for keeps. It's just too bad I don't normally live near any.

I've made some decent hauls @ some MG's and getting shit from GS employee's about the games would either have a sticker on it or magic marker and saying they can't take it, because of 'top damage'. Luckily I managed to flip them across the street in the same city.

But I've been calling around locally on all the HWV's and MG's around me and everytime I call a HWV they get confused when I ask them if they are having a sale on lastgen games and refer me to Gamecrazy.

Is there anyway to get around this or something, because if this is nation wide I know a few places that are still packed to the brim in games and desperatly need to be freed for my PS3 fund.
But I've been calling around locally on all the HWV's and MG's around me and everytime I call a HWV they get confused when I ask them if they are having a sale on lastgen games and refer me to Gamecrazy.
Are you calling standalone HWVs? Because the deal isn't valid at locations with a Gamecrazy attached. If you do happen to call a HWV with a GC about games for sale, they'll just refer you to next door.

To answer your other question, this deal is nationwide at all standalone HWVs and MGs.

Well that sucks, but thanks for the response. And it looks like all the HWV's around me won't be having any sort of sale since they all have GC's attached to them.

Movie Gallery is my only hope it seems.

Anyone still finding stuff? I found the HWV that time had forgotten on X-mas eve...around 35 games, lots of TASTY stuff. They literally had HUNDREDS of last gen titles, and even a ton of brand new last gen stuff.

Wow, great score - thanks for the info.

Since I am not greedy -> The store I found had row after row after row of PS2, Xbox that I didn't look at, and some GC. They had a sign up about the $3.99, and no issue with pricing.

The store is in Thorndale PA. Happy hunting.

So far, I've just been buying games to keep, not flip. I came in late and found:
Fatal Frame
Ninja Gaiden Black
Metroid Prime 2
Naruto Ultamite Ninja

What are some good titles to flip and their value, other than obvious ones like mercs 2 and lego batman? Thanks.

Really? This thread is 107 pages long! Here's the distillation: Check the GS 10/20/30% tiered trade in thread: it contains pretty much the most updated TIV list for GS. Scroll down to the bottom for last gen systems.

With this trade in bonus, GS will kick you an extra 30% of your total TIV (or 40% w/ EDGE), so when you look at the values, factor an extra 40% on top of that. You are going to be paying $4 and some change so obviously you need to get more than with bonus to make a profit, so just determine what your margin will be.

Some don't like to mess with anything less than a 2x flip, etc...But there is still a bunch of rare GC/PS2 stuff that can yield those miracle 4-6x flips (Pikmin 2, Futurama, etc...), but you gotta get out and find 'em.

Why don't people here flip to eBay? Pikmin 2 gets >30$ disk only.

After bonuses, GS gives you ~ $22 for Pikmin 2. You probably wouldn't clear much more than that, if any, after paying Ebay and Paypal fees. Less hassle to drive to GS and get instant credit than to wait for an auction/buy it now, hope the person pays, ship it out, wait some more....

Now if you had found a complete, pristine condition Pikmin 2, that would be a different story. But with the condition that I've gotten most of my games in from HWV...I'm glad that GS takes them without a refurb fee

I just found a movie gallery near me (like 15 minutes away) and they have 3 copies of pikmin 2. Sadly, they aren't liquidating the last gen games yet. Though I did find one copy at family video for 4.95.

I found a completely untouched Hollywood video.

Let me just name a few games: Baldur's Gate II, Pikmin 2, Futurama,MARVEL vs. CAPCOM 2 ps2, Kirby Air Ride, Mario Tennis, San Andreas, and a few others...

Yeah..nothing too significant... ;]

You do know Marvel vs Capcom 2 is extremely rare, and sells for like $100 on ebay, right?

Seeing as how the first 4 games he listed are relatively rare, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he used a tad of sarcasm.

You won't get $100 for the HWV copies, though you can make a nice amount from them - had 2 myself for a short while ;).

I have 3 stores in my area. One of them has been picked pretty clean and all that is left are about 6 copies of Kirby's Air Ride, some Fire Emblems, and a GTA San Andreas. Last week there were about 10 copies of Lego Batman- so I think someone else must have caught on to the deal.

The 2nd one has a limited selection of games, but yesterday I managed to get a copy of Double Dash, and a personal use copy of FF: Crystal Chronicles so it was worth the drive.

My 3rd store, a Movie Gallery has yet to convert anything over for the sale... They have at least 5 copies of all the good TIV cube games... but they are slacking.

all the mg/hwv that were close were all crap from the beginning, but i ventured a little far away and managed to come out with only dark cloud 2 for ps2. not bad, but not extraordinary. they didn't have much else. still, better than all sports game like i'd been seeing.

I've been to 20+ HW/MG here in the south, and still no Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. If anybody has an extra one to trade, lemme know. I've got plenty of Movie Gallery bounty to trade (Ico, Fatal Frame 2, Fire Emblem (GC), Fire Emblem (Wii), etc.).

If you have any Family Video stores around you, check them out. They are having a sale similar to HWV but the prices range from 4.99-14.99.

Stopped by another Movie Gallery today that I didn't even know existed and found complete copies of Way of the Samurai 2 (PS2) and Digimon World 4 (GC). Not much but still decent.

stopped by today, I think I missed the restock day. Saw only a few titles worth the hassle, nothing worth more then $6 trade it, so I passed, I'll give it another shot on Tuesday.
Yup, still finding stuff.

Picked up today:

:ps2:

Yakuza 2
Lego SW2

:xbox:

KOTOR2
SWBF2

Jer, I thought you cleaned out the Milwaukee area

Which store you find those at?
must have been pulls!?

No fv's near me. Boo. Thanks for the head's up though.

I went to another store and picked up:

Alteleir (sp) Iris 2
Dirge of Cerberus
both for my collection.

And they said that they would buff games from the other HWV who's buffer is broken if i brought the receipt, so I'm gonna go back there and buy all the scratched as hell games.

I haven't been able to get them to convert the rentals, how do you guys get them to do that?

Most of my stores are pretty picked over, I know for a fact that there are a shit load of flippers and hoarders in tucson.

Germantown.

They still had some good stuff left, but it's all in super crappy condition.

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. I picked up a pretty good condition Pikmin 2 in a generic case, and ordered the case and manual over the internet. I'm planning on saving it and if the time gets right when the stock market is booming in 2022, I will have myself an easy $500. Yeah, I said it!

On a more serious note, how can you check that you're getting over the 3.99 or whatever you payed at HWV towards what you're getting at GameStop?

Use this thread:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202411

It's a compilation of the most recent known trade in values at GS. It obviously doesn't list every game, but does list a TON and is very helpful when hunting. I copy and paste the list into a word processor and then edit it down to my specifications (I only make a list of the games that give atleast $5 base credit), print it out, and carry it with me when I go into HWV

So I guess I should get rid of it as soon as possible..

I'm glad I sold my Pikmin II for $80 when the price skyrocketed before the summertime.
