From now until further notice all preplayed PS2,XBOX and GC titles are 3.99. From the Movie Gallery store I work at I picked up 2 copies of Mercenaries 2 and Guitar Hero 3.

Also if your Movie Gallery has a Game Zone all preplayed Wii, 360 and PS3 games are 25% off. Most of the next gen games that are preplayed in the Game Zone sections come as trade-ins so you can generally find good copies its just that the selection wont be as good as a Gamestop.

Edit by Io - For those with Hollywood Videos around note that this sale applies only to stores that DO NOT have Gamecrazy's attached. Also, it is still highly YMMV at any given store. Some don't participate (manager's discretion) and some are just clueless and think you are talking about the concurrent $3.99 movie deal (which requires 2 rentals and only applies to movies $12.99 and under). I've gone to about 6 stores and have gotten about 4 different versions of the deal. There is a code they can scan that makes all these games come out to $3.99 no matter whether you rent or not and no matter what the original prices are - it is just YMMV whether they can A) Find that code and B) Choose to apply it to the games you want to buy ;).

This seems to be very YMMV at Hollywood Videos. I got one to do it no problem and the next one I went to said it was only for $4.99 titles ($1 off is a deal? No thanks...) AND that I had to rent two movies. Also I didn't find anything good at either to be honest, seems all the good stuff (if there ever was any) was picked up early on.
I can't keep reading this thread, it makes me sad i'm not scoring as good as most of you. So far, 2x Grandia 2 ... 2x Shin Megami (the 2005 one), and Castlevania: LoI for myself.
Don't feel too bad, since someone cleaned out my local two HWV stores of anything really GOOD. I've been lucky enough to manage to scrape up some of the leftovers(like Disgaea 2 and Yakuza 2)they left behind.

However, I wouldn't even dare to try checking my local Movie Gallery store(s) since they never had more than a handful of used titles in the first place and a couple of them had N64 and Genesis games(for sale, NOT for rent) still at them.

It should not be YMMV. If a store isn't letting it happen, it's because the manager or employee doesn't want to let it happen. There is a coupon code for it. They have to scan the game, then a coupon, each time individually.

It is YMMV in the way the employees handle it. Some just refuse to believe that the restrictions don't also apply to the games. In fact one guy said the movies are $3.99 no strings attached and it is the games that are supposed to have the rent 2 requirement. When I asked why the signs were backwards he just said they were wrong :bomb:. I asked you this before but you didn't answer - what store in the Portland area are you having such an easy time at? I got shot down by 2 of them last night (well, they said I had to rent and since neither was close to home I didn't want the hassle).

Also, read your PM's ;).

Is it confirmed that one could use GameCrazy credit at Hollywood? If that's the case, I would be a very happy boy. I thought I read that someone had done that, but I wasn't sure if was a go.

bump that im headin not now but right now!

I dont know I just went to a hollywood video without a gamecrazy in AZ, had sc4 and others ringing up for 37ish. Even had him scan the coupon for 25% off. The base price of these games were the standed price. Am I missing something?Or is this just a YMMV?

I hate to drag the kids back to the same two hollywoods tomorrow, but some of these are nice flips. I'll probably keep Soul CAliber IV, COD4, and GTAIV, SuperSmashBrosBrawl.
I think i'll just call out sick from my 'real' job and run out once the wife is home tomorrow night. The kids cut into my profits needing candy at every store we go to.

haha...the g/f cuts into my profits the same way

looks like another trip to HV..tho im plannin on doing my final run (a total of 180 miles...but BELIEVE ME, IT SHALL BE WORTH IT!)

Today i went 130 TOTAL miles (meaning there and back to my house) to hit 3 HVs and came out with a HUGE haul..mostly ebay games...but i'd say it was WELL Worth it as i got:

:ps2:
kung fu panda x4
street fighter alpha anthology x2
grimgrimoire x3
warriors orochi x3
Yakuza x2
Wall-E x5
Karaoke Revolution Party
Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol
Wild Arms 5
Rule of Rose (apparently it's BANNED in a couple countries o_O)
XenoSaga Episode I
XenoSaga Episode II
Monster Rancher 4
Final Fantasy XII
Kingdom Hearts 2
Naruto Uzumaki Chronicles 2
MX vs ATC Untamed
SW: FU x2
Chicken Little: Ace in Action (traded into GS for $1.75...ouch)
LEGO Indiana Jones
Streets of LA (Limited Edition) - For myself :whistle2:D

:gc:
Mario Kart DD! x3
SW Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast
Tales of Symphonia x2
Zoids: Battle Legends
Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
Mario Golf: Toadstool tour
Mario Party 6

:xbox:
Street Fighter Anniversary
Fatal Frame
SW KOTOR II
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis
Beyond Good and Evil - for myself

not a bad haul...and most of stuff goes to either goozex, ebay, or GS..and pickin up a couple Wii Sports to sell on ebay at a couple GS's helped my trip as well!

Went today before work they didn't have much. I found out from the guy working there someone came in yesterday dropped like 300 bucks and cleaned them out of most stuff.

However I did grab some games I always wanted to play:

24 the Game - PS2
Sly 2 Band of Thieves - PS2
Jak & Daxter - PS2
Jak 2 - PS2

I might have to go back and look at next gen titles but I don't believe they had much.

finally! i think i found a hollywood video without gamecrazy and its just past my school( i have to go there tonight for a concert anyway)

Picked up 19 mores games tonight at the same store I went to yesterday. I pretty much picked up everything that traded in for at least $6 at GameStop. The guy that rang me up was cool, talked about games and stuff. Felt bad because he had to scan all the games, then scan the coupon 19 times as well. Also, for the first half, he scanned the DVD coupon instead, and it worked until it hit SF Alpha, which didn't work because he was using the wrong coupon. He switched on that and the rest. No biggie, final price was the same. And needless to say, that store is DONESKY. Going back to the GS tomorrow (guy there too is awesome) to flip them all. I'll report trade-in prices on the GS thread.

Unbelievable. I have to go BACK to the two distant Hollywood Videos to pick up more Wii games. I went out as soon as I read the ridiculous prices and managed to snag:

360
Assassin's Creed- $3.75
Soul Calibur 4- $13.50
Battlefield Bad Company- $11.44
Tony Hawk's Project 8- $.38
Call of Duty 4- $14.82

Wii
Super Paper Mario- $8.07

Well, I had Guitar Hero III and GTA IV scanned and they came up $29.99 and $39.99 so these ridiculously low prices seem to be YMMV.

And mastersun1 - NOW that it is wiped out can you tell me what store you went to?
Tony Hawk's Project 8- $.38
Please tell me this is a typo lol :)

Also noticed alot of people picking up wall-e for ps2 does that trade for alot?
This is so crazy. Some of these games are so ridiculously low, but question are they usually complete?
All of mine were complete except for THP8, which I can't really complain about... it was less than 50 cents. Generally Hollywood Videos aren't very good with original cases, but the cashier was super nice and let me look through the games that were just traded in and repriced (not on shelves yet).
Please tell me this is a typo lol :)
Nope, lol. I picked up two. And Madden 08 was something like 15 cents BEFORE 25% off. Or close to that anyway.

I don't see why people trade in games at HWV they give you worse credit than BBV and GS. I got a price-quote for my Gears, and they said $12... That's ridiculous.

Hmm werid. my hollywood video has a SHITLOAD of rare GC games and they won't sell them because they have no case or no bar thing to scan, something like that. So, I told one of the employer there to hold Pikmin 2, LOZ TP, and LOZ 4SWORDS

But are the wii games that cheap?

I saw mario galaxy for 39.99 but was it really like around 10-16 ?

The clerk told me that the price drops happened today for them... so they haven't restickered anything. That coupled with the fact that the drops were pretty massive leads to cheap games for CAGs. Ask for price checks.

I'm so like surprised. I can picture just going into HWV and seeing a plethora of nice used 360 games. Question; does gamestop require original cases, and manuals?

bummer the Hollywood without game crazy near me did not have a game zone/movie gallery all the old used games were overpriced I thought I was gonna get something cheap TMNT and Alone in the Dark on PS2 were $14.99 each I passed

If you didn't bother asking, then you conned yourself out of a deal. It always pays to ask the cashier and if they say no, tell them to check their promotions. Given that it was not a Gamecrazy there's no question that the deal should have been running. It's only the HV w/ GC that's YMMV.

Btw, I believe I figured out how to find out if your Gamecrazy is running the deal or not. Official Gamecrazies are on the Store Locator for GameCrazy.com. The two Gamecrazies that I went to that were running the deal are NOT listed in the locator. They do have the signage and inventory, though.

The low prices are indeed YMMV, I had them scanned it myself, If I could get some of those games at good conditions, I'd goozex them all!

I found a Promotional Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition for GameCube. It's got LoZ 1 and 2, LoZ OoT, and LoZ MM. It trades for 11.xx at GS base....I've never even seen this thing..tempted to keep it, just wonder how rare it really is.

It isnt that rare, as you can buy them at GS. It was free at one point through nintendo website.

No update on using GC credit at HWV? I've got a pair of games meant for BB but if I can match them at GC and get the big drops at HWV, I'd be stoked.

Pmed ya. On another note, the employee mentioned that somebody before me on Monday bought around 35 Gamecube games. No wonder there were no Mario games at all....All I picked up on Cube was Tales of Symphonia.

Non of those prices were in effect for current gen games WTF

Did pick up some trade fodder however, but some asian kid beat me by minutes in the FV store (luckily it was my second trip) :)

A mint/sealed one sold for $70.

Many, many years ago, it was a promotional disc that (if I recall correctly) you could get by subscribing to Nintendo Power or registering 3 games. That's how I got my copy. I'm still looking for a strategy guide for it w/o having to pay an exorbitant amount of money.

I just got Metroid Prime 3, Call of Duty 4 (360) and Civilization Revolution (360) at the new prices - all complete including original cases and artwork. I'm sad that I already have Assassin's Creed, GTA4 and SCIV. Oh well, I'm going back to loot the place tomorrow after I check GS trade-in values on the 360 games. :D

Hey, IO. Did your Hollywood Video store have Game Zone in it? A tiny little gamestore with a glass case full of new games? I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.
Can anyone who got the cheap games verify there was NOT a Gamezone store built in, with a glass case?

I wonder what the deal is with some stores having the new low prices and others not...could it simply be an update in the computers or something? I stopped by the 2 stores 5 mins away from me, one had Ass Crud 360 for 49.99, and the other which i assumed has the lower prices had Tiger Woods 08 360 for 3.25 (only game i saw marked with a .25 rather than .99)

The place where I got the ridiculous drops had a Gamezone but no Gamecrazy.

Mine did and the Civ Rev and GTA4 both rang up full price.

Mine has a Gamezone, and I got the new prices.

I just checked the thread with GS trade in values, and the only thing worth flipping is Battlefield: Bad Company at $11.44 -> $28 (after 40% is added). Still, these are great prices for those who just want to play the games.

I'm willing to bet that if you tried Blockbuster you'd find many more flip worthy titles. I'm planning on keeping mine, but for those of you who just want flip material, that would be the best way to do it seems.

Something to note, guys. My clerk said that the prices dropped TODAY for their store and are automated by the computer. This could mean that it would take a day for it to reach all Hollywood Videos. I know this doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but when people first claimed the $3.99 deal existed, it wasn't on my local HV's promo sheet. The next day it was active. Try again tomorrow or maybe during the weekend if you have HVs relatively closeby.
Those crazy prices for current gen are used games right? I know that question sounds stupid...
Yes, used games. Most of my local stores have disc-only ex-rentals, but one of them has lots of games with the original case and manual for some reason...that must be the one that gets all of the trading action.
I'm willing to bet that if you tried Blockbuster you'd find many more flip worthy titles. I'm planning on keeping mine, but for those of you who just want flip material, that would be the best way to do it seems.
Good point, thanks for the reminder!

Well i raided one HWV store tonight and cleaned house of the next gen games, all the last gen was gone. I picked up

Super smash brawl for 15.75 *4
Super Mario Galaxy 10.69 *4
Grand Theft Auto IV 7.88
Soul Caliber IV 13.50

Now to trade into GS im calculating an est of 237.3 credit with the 40% promo (or 20 each for buying a new game). After i spent 127.14 thats w/o tax.. At a ratio of 1.8 the trip wasn't worth it and im gonna be doing alot of returns. If someone wants any of those let me know.
