From now until further notice all preplayed PS2,XBOX and GC titles are 3.99. From the Movie Gallery store I work at I picked up 2 copies of Mercenaries 2 and Guitar Hero 3.

Also if your Movie Gallery has a Game Zone all preplayed Wii, 360 and PS3 games are 25% off. Most of the next gen games that are preplayed in the Game Zone sections come as trade-ins so you can generally find good copies its just that the selection wont be as good as a Gamestop.

Edit by Io - For those with Hollywood Videos around note that this sale applies only to stores that DO NOT have Gamecrazy's attached. Also, it is still highly YMMV at any given store. Some don't participate (manager's discretion) and some are just clueless and think you are talking about the concurrent $3.99 movie deal (which requires 2 rentals and only applies to movies $12.99 and under). I've gone to about 6 stores and have gotten about 4 different versions of the deal. There is a code they can scan that makes all these games come out to $3.99 no matter whether you rent or not and no matter what the original prices are - it is just YMMV whether they can A) Find that code and B) Choose to apply it to the games you want to buy ;).

Reading about a major hoarding/flipping bastid getting DENIED: PRICELESS
you must be unclear on what a rant is
I wasn't ranting
I said I had a negative experience for the first time
2 people asked what happened
I told them
you cry about me like always

I never bitch about someone beating me to something, thats why I'm always the first one there

As I was ringing out, the guy in the next register was buying a 360 game. They told him they were 3.99 too...I said"you know, go ahead and ring those up, I drove an hour here, I'm gonna get everything I want so I dont have to come back"...
Sounds like some employee is gonna get fired. :hot:
Before they released that on 360 you could have got $80-100+ on fleabay, I think the price tanked though and now most complete and mint copies only go for around $20-25.
I figure one for the collection and another one to sweeten a trade.

Hoping I can play blue discs....
OK I lied. I DID get all those from Movie Gallery, but those are all empty :(

I only bought Simpsons game and Hitman -- rest were cases that were going to be thrown out in trash so I said I'd take as much as they'd let me. So I got all those for free, but no games

I couldn't resist pretending I got those. Other CAGs must have cleaned out the store in Greenville, SC. If you are one that did, please PM me, I am not mad at all, just curious what you managed to get!
I was gonna say, cause a few of those titles just came out not too long ago, so I wouldn't have expected them to be converted over as of yet.

Oh and Capa.....calling the one clerk 'Fat Albert' among other names isn't ranting and being pissed about being cockblocked? Whatever you say......but from my perspective it came across as you being annoyed/pissed that maybe this clerk was actually getting the games for themselves to either PLAY or flip on their own.

I admit that when I used to hoard guides, I posted rants, but nowadays I avoid using namecalling, since it just shows you're childish and mad that you didn't get it "Burger King Style", where you can have it YOUR way(all the time).
I thought Kunai got banned? ;)
I thought so too, but it appears he had an alt(Capa). I can only imagine the mileage on their odometer from all of this running around for deals/flips. I know I put a good 5k on my car doing that back in the day.

No, sorry, I didn't mean to come across as ranting...I never have a problem with losing out, I belive in first come first served (obviously), but I DO have a problem with the customer service and treating people like shit...and judging by the closest store's manager's opinion of that place, I wasn't the only one.

My real job has me drive all over this city, so it's no big deal for me to hit the GS/Kmart/Target/whatever I'm scouting for that day as I go to that particular area. I put about 800 miles/week on my car, but most of that would be on there whether I flipped or not.
I got 20 next gen games at 3.99
2 copies of NBA 09
Fracture
Too Human
Midnight Club LA
Rainbow 6 PS3
Brothers in Arms
BF Bad company
Civ

and I still left a ton there, I'm out of cash...
Utterly insane... You are one lucky bastard.

I was putting alot of mileage on either my own car or one of my relative's cars from their lot when we were going to NY state ALOT for auctions. I was there as a driver, mainly, but if there was something close enough they'd let me take a cruise over and check the stores out. Because of those trips, I've been far and wide in upper NY state, far out into NJ and down almost to the MD line.

From the experiences with Kmart and Gamestop that I've had in the past, I guess I've become accustomed to shitty service and lazy/annoying employees so much that I just give up too easily anymore.

I do apologize if I got snippy, but the namecalling does come off as 'it's not fair that someone else is getting this stuff and I'm not'.

Im about an hour and a half from home, but I put an ad on CList to sell a wii, I have a buyer, if he buys it, I'll go back to that HWV and clean it all out tonight

Crap, they had already shut it down. I just picked up 15 more that I left earlier, LoZ WW, Hulk, SW BF2, KOTOR2, and found Grim Grimoire and a Fatal Frame 2 that had fallen in the middle of the rack on the floor

Ok, really, how are you getting these? Are you just bringing over the rentals and asking if you can buy them? Or are you just going thoug the stacks?
Ok, really, how are you getting these? Are you just bringing over the rentals and asking if you can buy them?
Stacks...you mean their whole gc games?
They weren't for sale or for rental to begin with. They just have em in their inventory thing and i asked this one cool guy if he could sell them to me and all he did by checking the games i wanted and he was glad to do it.

Oh and i got those Zelda games from a pawn shop :p

That doesn't really make sense....at all.

Anyone know (sorry if this has been asked) if MG/HWV will 'transfer' some rentals to sales eventually?

Sundays. It's in the thread somewhere and I can confirm that myself because I asked the manager that question. Apparently they have until wednesday to do the conversions but the list of games to be converted comes out on Sundays.

My guess from what he means is that ether they can just flat out sell you the games (I think the guy who I think he is talking about is a manager too), or they should be on the sales floor and just aren't.

Eh idk. Either way, I got my games and will be looking forward to playing them

Although, they didn't have a case for the games that weren't even on shelf, so you are probably right

Stiill, what do you think of my hauls ;)
kirby, im willing to make a trade with ya

My local HWV doesn't seem to transfer/replenish their sale stocks. I first went there for this deal on a Friday, and went back the following Thursday, but nothing new was added. :(

Hmm possibly, but I thought it unlikely cause everything left on the shelves looked exactly the same as when I went there the first time. Didn't see one new addition to the shelves.

But the guy working there wasn't the usual clueless store clerk though. He knew his games and which were the good ones (and not just those obvious huge hits), so maybe he got the good ones for himself first.
Does anyone know what games would be best for me to buy that are PS2, Xbox, or GC that would have high trade in values at Gamestop?
First, Epic Fail. But it's ok.

Second, because I love all CAGS, check out the first post of the Gamestop 10/20/30 thread.

I don't suppose you'd sell one of those Fracture's to a CAG for 3.99? ;)
How did you get them to make the current gen stuff 3.99? Just grabbed it and acted casual? And did you turn the 1,000 dollars into 7,000 by buying gift cards with giftcards during that promo? If so, sorry man, but that's pretty shady.

Epic double post! :)

You sir are one lucky lucky lucky man and I'm jealous as hell. Do justice with the luck God gave you and get some good Christmas gifts for your kids/family :D

No, paying for GCs with counterfeit money, or hot checks would be shady. Kmart and Sears accept the following forms of paymet: Cash, CHeck, Debit/Credit card, and store credit/GC. Kmart and Sears are the only major retailer with a POS system that allows you to purchase a GC with a GC...the other major retailers have computer systems that kick it out. Imagine this: You get 3 sears giftcards for christmas, so you go and purchase 1 large card with those 3 so you can carry one card around. That's not shady. It's not shady to pay for an item with a legally accepted form of payment. If Kmart /Sears had set their system up to not allow it, and I was talking CSRs into overriding it, that's shady. That whole promo was one giant loophole and I drove a truck through it. That promo is actually how I got into flipping games...I had a few hundred bucks left in credit, and I started buying clearance games and moving them to GS to get a PS3. When that promo was running, I would run into CSRs or managers who would not allow the purchase, and I said fine, thank you, and walked out..they have every right to refuse an offer, just like they have every right to accept a legal offer. If they choose to start a promotion with a loophole that big, it's not shady to take advantage, it's opportunistic. :)

Don't worry...GS had done a B2G1 the week before my nieces/nephew birthday (they are 8, 10, and 10), flipping allowed me to give them a wii, 3 extra controllers, 2 mics, an extra nunchuk, and 10 games. I'm going to get them a wii fit and one of the RB/GH band setups for Christmas

edit--I didn't "do"anything on the next gen stuff...I was checkign out with 35 last gen games. I stuck 2 next gen in the stack, when I did this on Friday (and not trying to get it for 4 bucks, it was a Oblivion GOTY mistagged and I was legitimately buying it) the manager just kept running the coupon, and I got the GOTY for $4. I figured it was worth a shot to get 2 next gen games in the huge stack he was going through. As he did this, the CSR next to us was ringing up someone else, and she asked the asst manager what coupon went with the next gen stuff, and the asst manager said"try the same one, I don't know"...I immediately said ,"I might as well go grab the rest of what I want, so I don't have to drive back" and made a bee line for the next gen stuff. I grabbed all the expensive stuff, since there wasn't anything I REALLY wanted. They ran the coupon for every single game. I was out of cash, but had put an ad on this towns CLIST earlier for a wii, and had gotten a guy who called me. I got on the phone with him, negotiated the deal, met him and sold the wii, then went back to the HWV to clear it out completely, but they had already caught on to the correct promo(I was gone about 2 hours). I told the manager that I knew of several other stores who made the same mistake, so not to worry too bad, that obviously there was something confusing about the verbage. I just bought some of the older stuff I'd left behind before (KOTOR,SWBF2, etc)

All of this was in a town about 60 miles from where I live. There are almost 30 MG and HWV to hit within 2 hours, and I've only gotten to 10 or so right now.

No. It's shady because they haven't found a way to block people like you from doing it, so they haven't ran the promo since. I don't see how you don't see how it's immoral to basically steal 6,000 for a store. It's kind of like the people who buy sealed clearance games and take it to Walmart because they let you do a receiptless returns. Walmart is one of the only stores that allow games to be returned in that fashion. People keep doing it because they're not getting in legal trouble (thus the morality buzzer doesn't go off in their head) But you and me know that Walmart has that policy for an entirely different reason.
The cashiers at Kmart and Sears who would allow that are idiots though. But I am a little resentful that they don't do the promo anymore... because the of the loophole exploited to ad nauseum by many people like yourselves.
$7,000 in Sears GCs for $1000 cash
wow
How did you manage to do that?!
What kinda promo were they running?

You got a 20% bonus basically for whatever you bought on a giftcard. (you spend $500 on GCs, you get a $100 GC for free). Sears and Kmart accept each others GCs. The last time, Sears was doing a 20% bump too.

Start with $1000. Buy $1000 in GCs at Kmart. YOu get 1200. Go to Sears. Take your Kmart cards and buy 1200 in Sears GCs. You get $1440 in Sears cards. Go to a different Kmart. Buy $1400 worth of GCs. Pay with your Sears cards. You get 1680 back. etc etc etc etc etc.

You're using legal tender to purchase an item. You arent misleading anyone. You are using no deception. Nothing is stolen...yes you are "manufacturing "credit out of nothing...just like we do when we flip games. No one HAD to allow you to do it, and in fact, most people get shot down and just quit. I got shot down a few times, that's part of it. Anytime I'm trying to work a deal or get something, I always find the 18-22 year old female csrs, they usually do whatever I want

Well, I'm not going to derail this thread anymore, but if you seriously think Sears and Kmart intended people to flip giftcards into a 600% profit, then I don't know what to tell you. It's wrong. You just got away with it, so please don't confuse the two.
Anyway, I'm still waiting for my store to restock... they promised around Monday or Tuesday so I'm pretty hyped to see what comes in.

Capa, where in the world do you live that you have that many MG's near you? I only have one within a 40 mile radius, it's ridiculous. And I do not live in the boonies by any means.

and its easy enough to stop...every other retailer has done it. It takes probably under 100 lines of code. It would seriously take a programmer less than 1/2 day to fix it. They don't care about it, it drives traffic, and it makes their numbers explode revenue wise (because the same credit is spent over and over).

Walmart allows receiptless returns as a customer service. Kmart offers them still, and I heard Target was about to stop it completely, but last I knew for sure, Target allowed it in very limited fashion. Returning items you did not purchase at a store to that store IS illegal. Buying gift cards with legal tender, if the store elects to accept it, is not

Don't feel like reading through 3 pages of old posts. Just wanted to give an update. Had a good experience tonight. Signs everywhere, hand written, about the $3.99 sale. I bought 12 and the lady was nice but it sucks she had to find all the discs in the drawers. I played dumb that this was my first store visit and asked why the big sale. She said to make room for the rental conversions over the holidays. She didn't know how long it was going to last, another week or so she said.

I managed to get:
GTA:SA (xbox), my first Wall-E, Spidey FoF (first), Mercs 1, God of War 2, FFX (for me), Mario Sunshine, Family Guy and Lego Star Wars.

Hoping to sell all for cash. Even if I make $1 profit for each game, it's worth it. Got about 12 other games in my car. Hoping to make back some money I've spent.

The lady was also nice enough to tell me to come in tomorrow when they do the rental conversions. She said last weekend they had 13 LBM and they went quick. Good to know but I'll stay local (I was 180 miles from home).
Wow Capa im jealous.
If only i could hit up the HV's in miami
why can't you?
brb, booking a flight
lol

And I was told tonight that the sale was to get rid of old gen stock completely. If thats the case, it will run for awhile. If it's just to clear out room for the holidays, I'd expect it to maybe run through the weekend after Tgiving.

Too far, I live a county away and my parents obviously won't drive me there cause of "games". Whatever. I guess my haul was good enough. but not enough for a profit :p

edit: Didn't some people on here get lucky enough to buy a 3.99 current gen game?

Are you sure? I thought I only had 2 HWVs here, and then 2 more in 2 different directions about 90 miles away, then I started going on the MGs website and typing in all the little towns around here, and lo and behold, almost EVERY single little town has a MG. I had planned today to road trip , hitting MGs on the way up, then hit 2 HWVs, then hit MGs on the way back, and hopefully get in 8-10 stores today. Instead, I got through 1 MG that was empty, and then hit the motherlode

After a week, I got "stuck" with $7,000 in GCs. Right when my DLP bulb went out. So I bought a 50 inch plasma. Then I bought a Wii. Then some more wiis to sell. etc etc.

You can't throw in more money than you can afford to be without, because it will get tied up in credit, but it will multiply many times. That's why I said $1000 to $7000 in GCs

Wait, I'm stupid. I misread it I understand now. I was thinking you would of had to spend like $1500 to get the 1680 giftcard. I forgot that all the money was just stemming from the initial $1000.
