when i saw gungho for the first time as a kid i thought the asian guys were evil and they were being mean to the americans and i wondered why that guy was able to eat cookies in the store without paying.

with older eyes the movie is stil great and i get all the adult humor but all i can think is man the fuckin americans are lazy and annoying and they should be glad to have gotten their jobs saved why the fuck are they complaining.

what about you ?

The Matrix was one.

I guess I didn't really get it the first time, but I love that movie a lot now.

Also, not a movie, but watching the older Simpsons episodes, I always see stuff I never understood or just missed when I was younger.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3. I loved the first two (still do), so when installment 3 came out, I begged my mom to take me to see it. I loved it so much that I ended up seeing it in the theater four times, with a different relative taking me each time (I conned them into thinking I hadn't seen it yet). Now, I recognize it for the horrible turd it is. I own a copy, but only because I bought the box set of Turtles movies.

Uh... Sadly the only one I can think of atm is Battlefield Earth. It was bad back then when my friend and I went to the theaters for it (ugh...) and it's still even worse catching part of it while flipping channels.

Edit: Commando! Especially now since it's duh Governator...

When I was a kid I couldn't stand Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Gene Wilder gave me the creeps for some reason. Now I can sit and appreciate the movie more after seeing the newer version and comparing the two.

Robocop 2. I Used to think ANYTHING with a half man-half machine all justice could do no wrong. Now that I watch it I see all the plot holes and how it can't compare to the smallest fraction to the first movie.

I use to ask my dad to check the TV guide to see if The Guvyer was coming on when I was a kid.

Horrible, horrible movie on rewatch.

Is that the one with Mark Hamil and based off the anime and had terrible men in suit costumes?

i used to do the same thin with Buckaroo Banzai.......im still on the fence about it aside from tht guy from 3rd rock constantly calling that guy big bootie its not near as cool as i remember it being. that chick is freakin hott though .

i guess wth most movies we see as kids its the women you finally notice years later. the mom and older sister from poltergeist were damn sexy and the cheerleader in the goonies well shes an annoying whiny bitch and a bit of a tease. the dark crystal and labrynth are both still awesome but man for kids films theyre pretty dark and adult at times. i can see why i had nightmares after seeing the dark crystal.

and the entity though still a scary movies is kind of an odd mix between a horror film and rape porn. the chick in that film is hott beyond belief.

yep jj from goodtimes and i believe the guy who played evil characters in weird science and the original hills have eyes was in that one too.
Poltergeist. The mom gives me a boner now. When I was a kid...not so much.
Ever see 'Teachers?' Uncut, I mean.

The blueberry girl scene terrified me as a small child seeing it at the drive-in in its original release. But it is an incredible bit of work for its era.

I was sooo letdown by that sequel. Frank Miller's role in the story gave me high hopes but a lot of what works in a graphic novel was just obnoxiously brutal in a movie. Plus it just lack for good ideas.

A lot of movies I saw as a kid were impossible for a child to entirely appreciate. Like 'Harold & Maude.'

Also, the censorship constraints often made discussion of certain subjects so roundabout it was very hard to get what was being inferred. It was like there was a secret code telling adults that this character was a hooker and this other character was impotent.

Speaking of Censorship... There's A LOT less than I remember in Braveheart then before.

Monster Squad. As a kid this was one of my favorites. I remember it being just about as good as it can get. Rewatching it about a year ago I had all of my childhood memories destroyed. Awful, awful movie. Even the funny scenes I remembered were pretty stupid.

There are several, but the only one I can recall at the moment is Aladdin, since they were showing it on ABC Family not too long ago. I wouldn't say my opinion of the movie has changed, but you do pick up more things (like jokes and double meanings and whatnot) when you're 21 than you did when you were 5. Plus it looks a hell of a lot better than I remembered it. Then again, they didn't have 52" HDTVs back then (back in the day all I had was the 13" Magnavox my parents bought for my room), and I'm pretty sure the one they showed was remastered, since parts of it looked 3D.

I wasn't even hardly a kid but I saw XXX (Vin Diesel not porn..... I wish it would've been porn though) twice in theaters. What an epic turd that movie is.

I loved the "Never Ending Story" as a kid. Now I can't even get through it without wanting to shut it off. It think its probably the bad video quality and audio quality that does it. Im just so used to all digital now.

The Exorcist. That movie gave me nightmares when I was a kid. I used to always skip channel 5 because it seemed like they always had that movie on. I couldn't stand to look at Linda Blair's demon-possesed face.

When they re-released it in 2000, I went to go see it with a bunch of friends. I was nervous going into the theater. Then, the movie started and everyone in the theater started laughing. I guess the movie didn't hold up so well.

Stephen King's "IT"

The clowns seriously scared the :censored: out of me as a kid. The part where the little boy lost his sailboat down the drain was awful. As an adult, it's more retarded than anything, especially the ending.

There's a crazy long list of films I saw as a kid then was completely annoyed by as an adult, but two instantly come to mind:

~Monster Squad = Nothing looks corny when you're 7 >_>

~Gremlins 2 = I enjoyed this more than the original when I was young, yet as an adult that opinion reverses. The reason I liked this version at first was mostly due to the diversity of gremlins with their cool new variants. However, I dislike most of those variants now (although spider-mohawk and the gargoyle are still awesome, not to mention the still amusing ending) but mostly disliked the kiddiness of the film and how it did little besides parody the first (right down to destroying the dark humor of the Christmas story).

Damn that clown! Gave me nightmares for a while.

I'd have to say the Garbage Pale kids The Movie. I loved collecting them as a kid and the movie was just great. Scenes where they put together clothes with snot, priceless.

I remember seeing child's play when I was really young, and that Chucky doll scared the hell out of me for years, and years. It took me forever to get over that. Now I can watch it, and it doesn't really bother me.

3 Ninjas movies, man I loved those movies as a kid. I tried to watch them now that I'm older and I definitely don't think they are as awesome as I thought they were. Still entertaining though, in the "so bad, it's good" sort of way.

i remember that one. i begged my mom for the longest time to let me see that and she wouldnt and it always pissed me off that she wouldnt let me but a year or 2 ago i got to see it lmao that movie is the worst damn film ever glad i didnt waste her money on it.

pee wees big adventure is another one that doesnt hold up anymore especially that large marge scenes as a kid that scared the shit out of me but its a joke now. not to mention pee wee kinda comes off gay in alot of that film.

The Princess Bride - No male child wants to sit down and watch a movie named The Princess Bride. This carried over into my adult years until early last year I actually sat down and watched it and wound up loving it.

Friday the 13th series - I loved these movies as a kid, but was utterly horrified by them. Nowadays I love them even more, but now it's because of how hilarious they can be. Made even better if drunk with a few friends.

I can't believe no one's said Cool Runnings. Maybe it was just popular with my fifth grade class?
I loved the "Never Ending Story" as a kid. Now I can't even get through it without wanting to shut it off. It think its probably the bad video quality and audio quality that does it. Im just so used to all digital now.
WTF? This movie is still great. Granted the frame story kind of sucks thanks to Sebastian being an annoying kid, but the movie has great themes and better visuals. And the Gmork is still scary.

I'm 24 and to this day I refuse to see that movie. I've never even seen it, but I can't tell you how many sleepless nights I had because of that fucking doll. I had a My Buddy doll that I had to get rid of when Child's Play came out. The only tv channel I could watch when the movie was being released was Nickelodeon because they didn't have tv spots for it.

On topic, I'd have to agree with The Guyver. I loved that movie, but yeah, its basically a trainwreck.

I hate to admit it,but I was the same way I just couldn't stand watching it. I can watch it now, and it still freaks me out,but not quite as bad. :whistle2:# Yeah I had one of those my buddy dolls as well. I still have it somewhere. That didn't really bother me,but for years I had nightmares of that chucky doll it still kinda messes up my mind. I can watch Friday The 13th, and all sorts of over crazy disturbing horror movies, and they don't bother me at all,but the stupid chucky ones still do. What was even worse where I rent movies they had one of the chucky dolls open with the knife. It freaked me out to walk by it honestly. I use to think it might try to come and kill me. Ha. Come to think of it when I was young I watched Jurassic Park, and had nightmares about the T-Rex eating me. I find it funny now.

you might want to be careful that doll may still be pissed and looking for you to exact its revenger lol. now that puppet toy in poltergeist was scary and that damn treee. living in the south theres alot of trees that look like they have faces lots of sleepless nights because of that film.

As far as bad goes I'd say Monster Squad. It seemed like that movie came on everyday on HBO in the afternoon when I'd get home from school. But when I found it re-released last Halloween on DVD and I bought it, damn that movie was bad.

That reminded me, I freak'en loved Little Monsters. Fred Savage + Howie Mandel! In retrospect its definitely not as good as I remembered. The boy who could fly is probably up their as well.

Holy shit! Monster Squad! I just youtubed it and now I remember. Haven't seen it since I was a kid but I remember being pretty upset when Frankenstein sacrificed himself at the end.

I can't believe so many people are saying Monster Squad. Like everyone else I watched it a million times on HBO and loved it. When it was re-released I bought it and watched again and was shocked at how much I still liked it.

Not much to say as far as I'm concerned, I loved it when I was a kid... and I still love it.

Same here, I still love that movie. I guess I have a taste in "bad movies" since some of the ones mentioned I still like. Pee-wee, Monster Squad, Cool Runnings, Commando... hell I just watched Commando the other night, that movie is still great, although I'm a big Arnold Schwarzenegger fan.

arnold and sly have a lot of love em and leave em films. the running man and predator are still awesome to me but total recall i cant get into 3 tits or not.

demolition man and the first 3 rockys are still great but the 5th rocky and that mountain move he did not so much. btw have any of you noticed in the rocky films how alot of the punches are way off the mark from hitting or even looking like a real hit?

and it still kinda weird me out the running man and demolition man seem to be coming true in ways. and i have to disagree with some of you i think monster squad is still funny even today so is that movie with the kids who shared a dream together and built a spaceship using alien code given to them by kid aliens. cant remember that film for the life of me but i think river phoenix was in it.

and creepshow is still a great set of movies the crate one and the bday cake one were scary as hell. too bad the sequel was trash.

Hahaha exact opposite for me. I saw all of them in the theater and thought 3 was the weakest of the bunch. Years later now watching them with my kids we think 3 was the best of the bunch. No cursing just pure action and fun.

explorers

great movie. still not too bad

hmm i need to watch solarbabies again see how that one held up...

Last Action Hero springs to mind, even though I still do enjoy the concept.

Ones that i liked but no longer do...
Mom & Dad Save The World
Problem Child 2 (1 still holds up pretty well)
Uncle Buck - i'll still sit through it once in a while, but don't enjoy it as much as I did originally.

The Cannonball Run movies were both great when I was a kid now I cant even force myself to sit through either of them.

FAIL

that movie still fucking rules... Burton, Hartman and Ruebens made a classic.
Mom & Dad Save The World
every actor in that movie still talks about how amazing and funny the script was, and that it just got totally butchered throughout the filming of the movie... quite a story really

Commando is great BECAUSE of how cheesy it is... "Don't wake my friend.... he's dead tihhad"... and the car crash that looks amazingly fake where Arnold and Alyssa Milano just jump out of the car and run right after? wow. it's so bad it's good.

it doesnt very gay film. at least the porkys films still stand tall 3 is kinda weak though. im surprised they havent tried to remake those yet. revenge of the nerds 1 does too.

oh yeah damn near all burt reynolds earlier movies still kick ass. smokey and the bandit, the longest yard, deliverance.

and the romero films ( the first 3) are still good but not scary at all.

Not a movie per se, but Tales From the Crypt. I had two older brothers that used to watch the show and they had a halloween mask of the character. This would result in me being terrified many many times.
