Well, I decided that I really need to get an Xbox 360, but which games should I get? Here are the ones I'm thinking of getting.

Gears of War
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
NBA Street Homecourt
Dead Rising
Saints Row
Crackdown

XBOX (original) WISE
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy
Halo
Halo 2
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness

Any others that I should look into?

gears of war is a MUST HAVE game. download the demo's for the other games, and see if u like them, then buy it after.

what kind of games are u into?

Well, I like 2D games personally. But, they seem to be nonexistant this generation.

I like all genres of games, to be honest. My least favorite is shmups (some are great though!) and RPG (haven't really liked one in a while). My favorite would have to be platformers.

But, I play everything.

Oh, one quick question. If I buy a used Xbox 360, is there anyway I can tell if it's still under warrantey AND is there anyway to wipe the HD? Like, delete all the XBL stuff?

rainbow six: vegas is a great game IMO. you can always download demos to try them first. after playing vegas online, i really can't get back into gears of war at all. i personally like realistic shooters though, so my opinion may be a little unfair.

Edit: i am pretty sure you can wipe the hd (at least you can delete it all 1 by 1). i would day the only way to find out the warranty part would to be checking the manufacturing date on it.

I don't know if you can check if it's still under warranty without calling up microsoft to find out, but wiping old information off your harddrive shouldn't be much of a problem at all.

As for great games, here are two from XboxLive Arcade that you might find interesting (at least worth downloading the demo)
Hexic
Geometry Wars

Also, some nice titles for Xbox you might find intriguing are
Otogi
Otogi 2
Ninja Gaiden (Or Ninja Gaiden:Black)

and...erm...that's all tat is coming to mind at the moment.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. One more question.

If I had the reciept for the system that proves when I purchased it, would that be proof Microsoft needs to repair the system if it had any damage?

I definitely don't recommend Saint's Row. Not a good game IMO.

The best 360 games to me are:

Gears of War
Oblivion
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
Dead Rising
NBA 2k7 (if you're into sports)

These are the only must have games I have. I really want to get Crackdown and Rainbow Six Vegas.

Oblivion is the only game I would really reccomend to you at this point, based on your tastes.

Gears of War is definitely worth a rental just to see what the system is capable of, but the game is darn short and if you aren't into it the multiplayer won't be that rewarding. Dead Rising, Condemned, Ghost Recon, Tomb Raider and Saints Row are all worth cheap pickups or rentals (try the demos).

From the replies, I decided that Oblivion will be my first, 2nd will be NBA Street Homecourt. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Oblivion is a must-have title.

I suppose Gears of War is as well.

Can't think of much else. Great titles, but not really "MUST haves".

Usually I score games using my own scale. 9.0 = fantastic 9.5 and above = must have.

Oblivion 9.7
Gears of War 9.5

only must haves on 360 i can think of are Gears, Crackdown, Oblivion, Fight Night Round 3, and PDZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Correct me if Im wrong, but I thought Elder Scrolls was going to be a hits game soon. Wouldn't that mean the price would drop to $29.99? If so you might want to wait on buying that one.

Anyone here have knowledge of that one becoming a hits game soon?

It is not in this current round of new greatest hits set to drop soon. No one knows when it will be made one.

Oh, then nevermind OP. Buy it right away.

I would definently recommend Viva Pinata, it id probably one of my most played 360 games. It's atleast worth a rental if you are questionable about it. Since you like platformers, Kameo would be worth buying. I really enjoyed it, and it is only $20 used IIRC. And, Saints Row is definently worth buying if you like the GTA trilogy, as it is quite good, and has lasted me a while.

I wouldnt really say must have, but IMHO Hitman Bloody Money is a must play. Play through the game a few times and have fun with the numerous ways you can take out your targets :D

as for the original xbox, Fable! Fable was a fantastic game (even with the over hype) and I bet it's really cheap by now. And of course Halo and Halo 2 are a must have as well (that's the whole point of getting an Xbox)

For the 360, you'll get the most game for the money from Oblivion. I've played it for over 90 hours and I still have stuff to do not to mention all the extra missions they continue to put out (for a small fee)

You can format it in the menu. THe HD, that is.

And:

Oblivion: Collectors Edition is going on sale for 10 bucks in BestBuy tomorrow, or so I hear (from the BestBuy Clearance Topics)

Definitely! I played Fable as a BC game after I got my 360, and the experience was definitely as fun (and in alot of instances much funner) than anything the "next gen" games have to offer.

Yeah but something tells me there are like a total of 10 copies left in all BB's in the US.

anyone expect a price drop for viva pinata anytime soon, to at least $30? i'm hoping its an amazon DOTD soon...i missed the $30 deal back during the holidays at BB

I would say only buy Gears of War and Dead Rising. Oblivion if you really liked Morrowind. And definitely Geometry Wars.

The cheapass in me really enjoyed Kameo, Halo, Halo 2, Forza 1, Psychonauts, Jade Empire, and Fable: TLC. Great games that I got for less than $20 each. (Well, Halo 2 was a gift.)

Must haves?

Single player FPS experiences, I would have to say Call of Duty 2 takes the cake, but Oblivion is the BEST single player experience you'll find for the 360.

Multiplayer wise Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas are must haves (R6 is better then Ghost Recon imho).

Xbox Live arcade goes to Geomtry Wars since day one.

Viva Pinata, Dead or Alive 4 and PGR3 are also great games that all need to be considered as well.

My expierence is limited, but thus far positive.

You'll want to drop $5 on Geometry Wars, maybe even before you shell out $60 on a new game. ;)

Crackdown and Gears of War seem great. I've spent much more time with CD thus far, and have been really digging it.

Avoid Halo 2 if you're looking for a solid single player game (thought for multi online it's pretty good I guess, never played that aspect myself). And if you haven't already played it, get Ninja Gaiden (or preferbly, Ninja Gaiden Black--same game, more content). Ninja Gaiden ranks with Resident Evil 4 and Twilight Princess as my favorite last gen games.

Geometry Wars is crazy good times and a pretty essential purchase. I need to stop sucking at it, though. :)

XBL Arcade has some really decent stuff on it. I've really enjoyed Lumines Live, and was tickled to get Frogger for free as part of a special MS promo. It feels kinda wrong to play a 20+ year old game on a $400 next gen console, but man does it bring back memories!! Tremendous fun.

For new stuff, I've gotta give a huge recommendation for Tony Hawk's Project 8. Hands down the best thing Neversoft has ever done. If you have any interest in the series at all, it's a great purchase. I think it's even better than Pro Skater 4, which is saying something.

oblivion is a must own. actually that and GoW are the only two true must haves imo. it really boils down to what type of game you want.
just fyi i have several friends who refuse to play rpgs, think theyre lame bla bla bla. and they all have loads of hours in oblivion. couple of them are close to 100 and still playing.

Well, I think he said he didn't like shmups. If that's the case, I doubt he'll like Geometry Wars, though it's definitely a game that I'd recommend.

Even though you aren't a big fan of RPG's either, I would recommend Oblivion. It is much improved over Morrowind. Even if you hate RPG elements, I think you'd be able to play it as more of an action/adventure game and really enjoy it (and, you really can avoid quite a bit of the tracking through the woods if you want to).

So, I definitely think it's worth a look. If you end up liking it, you'll find an incredible world and an absolutely huge game (I've put in 65 hours so far, and I haven't finished any of the guild or main missions (I've done many missions for them). I'm guessing, buying none of the extra content, the game has around 150 hours of play, possibly 200 hours.

condemned, and hit up that Best buy clearance thread dude! Theres some good shit just to play. Oh and you're not wrong that Oblivion is going to be a platinum hit. They just announced it. Nevermind it was taken from the list that i read. Damn.

OH and sign up for Gamenflix.com i love the service and its only 12 bucks a month right now for 3 games out
Yes.
Then don't go off everyone's opinion. Most games have demos on the Marketplace, so I would recommend trying those out before anything. Games like Gears and Oblivion, however, don't have demos out, but are easily the most popular choices for 360 owners to have.

I just got a 360, have had a ps3 for a while. I recently just bought GOW and Mass Effect, and of course GTA IV when it comes out. Are there any other exclusives that are must gets for the 360. The list I got now includes...

Mass Effect
GOW
Bioshock
Halo 3 - maybe
Saint's Row - maybe

Or recommend a 360 game that is now a must buy due to price drop/deal.
