Yay!

My adored Subaru Forester (don't even bother with the stereotype remark about women who drive Subarus... it isn't applicable here =P ) purchased brand new October of 1997 turned 200,000 miles old today. I've put every stinking mile on that car myself.

Because I never pull it into the garage, it's paint has suffered more than it's fair share. The interior has carpeting has been abused by my habit of leaving windows cracked for fresh air, and forgetting to put them up during rainstorms. And because a vandal came and smashed my rear window a year or so ago, I have a rear window without tinting while all the other windows are darker. Above the rear window is an indent which could be construed for a gunshot. So nowadays it looks completely disreputable, but I love it, and almost always take it out instead of the Prius.

Of course, just a mile or two after 200,000 the Check Engine light came on, but I chalk that up to the sense of humor Providence exhibits.

Okay. Tell me about your wonderful charriot of love.

200,000 miles is quite the achievement. Congrats.

When I worked at a Honda dealership we had one customer with an Odyssey that had 480,000 miles. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it for myself. I was told his job requires him to drive across the country all the time.
The light could have come on simply because you had passed 200,000 miles.
It's possible. I'm going to give it a couple days to sort itself out, and if it remains on, I'll call my mechanic and bring it in.

I too have a mismatched window tint, since May.
Isn't it awesome? I remember taking it to be done (as Subaru didn't offer that feature) and asking the men, "this won't fade or bubble or look ghetto after a while will it?" I was assured it wouldn't.

Well, with the rear window letting all that light in, all the windows look like this cheesy purple color. >_< And the film is peeling on a couple of the windows (rear driverside, front passengerside) from the above mentioned indoor monsoon I habitually invite.

Oh yeah Bay-bee. I am styling.

But hey, it drives beautifully.

Yowza that's awesome! The dealer had told me with regular maitenance I could ideally get 350,000 out of this engine, and that's I'm aiming for.

What's so nice about the boxer engine (horizontally opposed) is that there's no idle vibration, even at nine years old. That was one minor thing that always irked me about my earlier vehicles. You'd sit at a red light and the engine would shake the car (sorry I'm not describing this well, I know very little about car mechanics).

Maybe I'm just lazy.

Oh, and I passed 100,000 miles myself this June:
'96 Buick LeSabre still goin' strong after 132k miles. I love her.
Sweet!

One of my all time fav modern era cars are the mid-90's Buick Riverias. They're gorgeous and have an awesome engine.

That's a great pic, sblymnlcrymnl! My first car was a 1986 Dodge Colt sedan and it rocked. A total beater with no radio, no ac, no nothing. I'm surprized the shift stick didn't fall off in my hand. Anyway, one night a bunch of my friends came over an we all decided to pile in my car and drive till it hit 100k, as it was pretty close.

What was funny was that they were all guys from my youth group, and my neighbor called my Mum asking if she knew I had just driven off with about 8 boys in my car. *giggles*
I'm nearly upto 100,000 with a 5 1/2-6 year old car.
That's impressive that you've kept the miles under 100k on a five year-old car. Are you in a city? Wanna tell us what make/model?

i've got my honda civic up to 205,000....i'm hoping it makes it to 300,000 before it dies and/or i graduate college.

Wait a minute whats the stereotype?

My 1997 Buick Century is at 98,659...... It wont be long before she grows up and reaches 100,000 *sobs silently*

Another Buick enters the track.

Nice work on the Civic, Dingle. Those drive forevah!
I got you all beat.. 91 Celica 243K.. Still running strong.
That was a nice year for the Celica, too.

gizmo, my younger brother purchased a new PTCruiser in April of this year and has roughly 1300 miles on it. We're gonna have some fun in December and drive it out to Colorado and then swing by Phoenix on the way back. I asked him if he wanted to take my car to keep the miles off of his, and he just glared at me.

Galant and now adays I do mostly city driving which constitutes roughly 40 miles total back and forth to school plus whatever else I do. I used to put major mileage on it driving in Cali a week or driving to Cali.

Congrats on the 200,000 guinaevere. I know what your talking about with leaving the windows down about an inch to get the fresh air in, although not when there is a chance of rain.

The "best" car I ever drove (relatively speaking) was a '78 LeMans wagon. It was the worst shade of brown, bench seats torn to hell, floor rusted out (had a road sign shoved under the carpet so I wouldn't fall through), and the 5L V8 only fired on 7 cylinders. The car ran like a champ though. It had about 160,000 miles when I bought it. I turned it over to my girlfriend after putting more than 20,000 miles on it. She drove it for a while before selling it to a friend of her dad's. He drove it down to Florida, and then it was sold again. About a year later we saw it parked outside a (local) restaurant we were eating at. No idea who the new owner was, but the thing had to of been well over 200,000 miles at that point.

136k on a 93 Lumina and 80k on my 98 S10.
I put about 20k on my lumina in 2 years and about 100 miles on my s10 in the 5 days I've owned it.

345k in a 92 Crown Victoria. Still original differential, engine and transmission. However none of the windows work (run A/C all summer long) and IAC (Idle air control valve) has to be replaced every 3 years or so ($260.00 parts and labor) other than that a great car. Father is original owner.

Just remember when you pull next to a red light and see a young guy/girl in a 350z or WRX Sti just quietly say in your head......No car payment, no car payment, no car payment.......and the pain goes away of driving an old beat up car.

I'll never understand why people who work for a living spend so much cash on cars!!!!

My 1992 Chevy-S10 has over 100,000 miles on it, but I don't know how much over because that's when the odometer broke. My friend has 2 93 Civics with over 250,000 miles on both.

You know that IAC (idle Air Control) valve probably costs $50-$80 and can be put on in under 30 minutes. If I am not mistaken it sits right on top of the engine on that motor right behind the throttle body.

Anyway most my cars have over 100,000. I just bought an Escape and its at 98,000 already and its an 01. Before that I drove a 1998 Taurus that I bought in 2000 with 120,000 on the dash. I sold it 2 years ago with 228,000 and have regretted it as the newer car I replaced it with was a joke for repairs.

the 100,000 mile mark is a common occurrence on the newer vehicles and the 200,000 is actually not that hard to do if you change your oil regularly etc.

We are putting 30k a year on each of our daily drivers now.

Then there is that million mile mark. I know of a Cadillac and a few Toyota's to reach that. I am sure some Honda's have reached it also.

Cool deal for you though.
Are you sure? Not that the light is on, but that nothings wrong with it?
Yeah, I had it checked a little while ago for other things and there was nothing wrong with it, nor did my car handle any differently. It's just a quirk that my car has.

Damn gubment made me get rid of mine before it hit 200K. I think it was at something like 170K and it failed the emissions inspection we have here. Owning a visible smoke belching car is my constitutional right damn it! (It was burning oil.)

Ended up giving it to a relative in West Viriginia where they don't care about silly things like clean air.

My 'Check Engine' light would always come on. I had it looked at and the guy said nothing was wrong. I talked to a guy who knows about cars at work and he told me to buy a new gas cap. That fixed the problem.

No way its most likely a Faulty Oxygen Sensor. If you want to improve mileage you would change that out otherwise you would never know it was bad until it got severe.

If you want a real answer stop by Autozone, Advanced Auto, etc and have them runt he codes for free. They will tell you what code its throwing.

It has to be throwing a code or the light wouldnt come on.

the gas cap and gas evaporation is a typical check engine light problem on a lot of cars... but so is the O2 sensor... however the gas cap is a lot cheaper to fix!

my 325 had over 100k miles and that poor machine got road raced this past summer... it would still be if it hadn't been totaled at a red light

It depends on the situation. Usually that is what it is and you can get it check at an Autozone or checker or something. When I had a check engine light it turrned out that my sensor had broken, this tiny stupid piece of crap, and so I had to buy it and replace it. $60 isn't too bad.

Kayden you sound like a Chevy man. Why did you only own the truck for 5 days?

oooh... I really like the Nisson Fairladies (z-line in America). And when my Forester reaches 350k, if everything else mechanically is running well, I'm wanting to put a WRX sti engine in there.

Cars are definately cool. I go to the auto show every year, and imagine I had tons of throwaway money so I'd be able to justify buying a new car. Specifically a ford gt. Recalls and all...

That's inspiring to hear an American car reaching the 1 million mark!

 Because I bought it last Friday.

I don't really wanna get rid of my Lumina, but I'm moving soon and the S10 will be more room and less gas.

I have a 95 Volvo with over 200,000 miles on it and it's still running strong. Congrats on reaching the milestone.

That might've been me you were driving next too :)

But seriously, I have my beautiful 1992 Ford Explorer XLT with 140k miles on it and my new baby, 2003 Nissan 350z with a little over 42k miles on it, both are in excellent condition.

And congrats again on that 200k milestone! I really hope the exploder can make it, but I am unsure if it will reach 150k miles now

I got in a car crash 3 weeks ago ;_;

My poor Scion XB hadn't even reached 5,000 miles.

And it's gonna cost me a pretty penny to fix it. The guy hit me right on my front right tire, and shook up all the goodies in the hood, save the engine.

I'm wondering if possibly it is related to the gas cap, because it wasn't long after having my emissions tested (and they do that gas cap test thingy). But I've tried taking off and then putting the cap back on with no change.

Someone mentioned the o2 having a relation to fuel economy. That sounds more likely in my mind as my city driving gas mileage has noticably gotten worse the past week.

I'm sorry to hear this. Are you alright?

Do you have those awesome interior leds? My Mum keeps wanting to buy me a new car (probably and XB because it's a great vehicle for the money and I really like the amazing use of interior space... as I'm often carting either Mum, Jaeli or both around, I prefer having a car which can seat tall people comfortably) and I keep arguing that my car is fine. But those stoopid cupholder lights are such a temptation. =)

Oh, and more importantly... also make sure that your car frame has been twisted or bent at all. Especially on such a new vehicle... you don't want to have the frame bent and be driving it around for years down the line like that.

No it was the standard 3.0 24 valve Taurus.

The car I replaced it with was a 1993 Taurus SHO with only 48,000 on it when i bought it two years ago.

Its almost at 100k now though. My wife is driving it as her winter car as she put up her summer toy. I replaced it with a decent (gas mileage wise) Ford Escape 3.0 2wd. I am getting close to 25 mpg on the highway and around 18-21 in the city. Yet I still have the towing capabilities.

Going against the trend here, but my 1989 Dodge Shadow just hit 50,000 miles this week. :D Only problem is a bad oxygen sensor, as was mentioned earlier.
