N64 game case project - live!

Added 13 new labels to the Boxnet Dir for a new total of 48 labels.

I EBAYed some 47 games recently which I'm waiting on. A lot we have boxes for..a few we dont.... but it'll make a big dent hopefully in the labels arena.

Just for reference though for the N64List .... 2 of the game are definitely not mentioned in the list. Those being

F1 World Grand Prix II of which I have a boxed version on the way and
Michael Owens WLS 2000 .. a soccer game ... cart only I'm afraid for that one.

So there you go ..... 2 more games for the list and a box soon for one of them :)

Later

PS. Just purchased a N64 package including five boxed games so I'll be able to hopefully add FIFA 64 PAL, Cruisn USA PAL, WCW/NWO Revenge PAL to the Mickeys Speedway USA PAL, Rugrats Treasure Hunt PAL, Amorines PAL & Castlevania PAL that I am waiting on with bated breath. Should keep me busy when they arrive
I can see a problem with the covers, we have a list of all of them but some of them show complete when it fact theres an AU, a English and a US version of the cover (in most cases the US and AU ones are red and the English ones are black. If it says complete then it might put other people off uploading the black UK version that some of us would like.
Well .... if you contributed cover scans to the project rather than complaining about the differences between Aus/NZ covers and Brit versions I might take your comment a tad more seriously.

While I appreciate where you are coming from the fact is the N64List is a quick guide to whether we have a US and some form of PAL cover. Note that we dont include Japanese covers? It isn't meant to be a definitive statement.

Snack-bar provide the ability to upload both AU and EUR covers. So by all means feel free to scan any EUR boxes and upload them as it'll give PAL users more choices as to which box scan they prefer. And people should look on Snack-bar to determine what's there anyway. You're just lucky I've been imageshacking them here as I do them so you can see what's going up on Snack-bar.

I would've thought you'd be happy with the fact that through Aus/NZ PAL covers I have been able to take the total percentage of game covers from 20% to 46% rather than complaining about our/my efforts to date.

Cheers

Im not critisising your efforts, im very greatful for the scans youve uploaded, however i did try scan f1 world grand prixII but as im on very slow dial up it took nearly an hour to upload and then it wasnt the right resolution for the project after all. Ive got banjo kazooie, fifa 64, mickeys speedway usa, goldeneye, donkey kong 64 and beetle adventure racing in pal formats scanned in and edited but i havent got a way of uploading them at the mo.

I'm getting Mickeys Speedway USA sent from the UK at present so assuming it's good condition I'll be able to up the same one as your's as soon as I get it. Has the black surround around the edges eh!

Sorry if I sound cranky. There's been little effort from others recently so I've been pretty much contributing everything. So any nigglers get under my skin especially after I asked if anyone would send me some cases and only one person even offered. Feeling a tad unappreciated of late.

Hence I'm cranky. No offence

hi, i was wondering what page the latest info for this project is on? I was previously involved a lot (owner of ukbeats.com), but quit my job, went on a road trip, moved and am still revamping my friends small company so i completely neglected this project. Enough excuses though....

I can provide a gallery (if it's still needed) where people can upload raw pictures too, I know the finals are being stored over at snackbar (if it's still being updated) and since I can now allocate time to this project (again) an updated list of what we have and what's needed.

Just basically looking for all the info on this project (i see that pg.1 hasn't been updated since last dec. - but perhaps that's still the latest) and what's needed (other than I'm sure boxes).

Nate

valeman - you can't get cases or the print outs out on legal paper or what? I'm a bit confused (just skimming some of the pages) or maybe I'm way off. Let me know what you need, I'd like to help anyone whose been active in this project while I've been gone. =)

It's ok..... I was just letting off steam.

I asked if anyone was able to send me some cases as I've uploaded some 85 covers to Snack-bar and I dont have access to the cases in New Zealand as Mediashelving dont ship out of continental USA.

However, one person here kindly fired me off some boxes..... only one person mnd you.

If you size the cover to 180 x 280mm the fit perfectly whether you use letter, legal, A4 etc.

So dont fret .... I was just miffed at a member telling us that Aus PAL isn't the same as Brit PAL where boxes are concerned.

As a matter of interest though.... on my 3rd attempt I got an email back from Videoshoppers re sending to New Zealand. Get this ..... the postage alone is $92US to ship 100 box .... holy shite!!!! So I'll be waiting a while to build up enough funds to cover the extra $40 I hadn't counted on.

ahhh i see, mediashelving doesn't ship international? that's surprising, shipping international is a pain indeed, but they should still offer it.

well if you want mediashelving ones I can order them and re-ship them to you. I'm not sure how much s/h would be.

Here's FIFA 64 PAL.........

Upped to Snack-bar as usual. On the subjetc of Snack-bar they seem to be up to date once again as my Excite Bike 64 cover is now available for download. Way to go Snowcone :D

4 more PAL labels added to my Boxnet Dir http://www.box.net/public/jd7u3z2nlf .

Note that you need to sign up to Boxnet to download anything you want but it's free so no big issue. I'm scanning the N64 game manuals into better condition pdf's than are available on the net at present. They'll go up soon but there are a couple over 10mb's which I cant upload as there's a 10mb limit for free files on boxnet

Sorry I've been checking the thread regularly but I've been really slack on updating the OP. I'll try to do that today. 4tygames made a new improved version of the list you were updating - check the last few pages for the link (I'll add it to the OP soon).

Basically what happened was that after you left and your site went down, we didn't have any people uploading scans to convert to covers. That's still a problem, except that theValeman has stepped up majorly and bought a ton of games and made covers for them, rather than waiting for other people to scan the boxes they already have.

awesome, yeah my webhoster updated some database and then the gallery thing went down and i never spent the few hours rebuilding it... what a nightmare, thanks for the update.

so there is still not a place to upload raw images?

shipped on Monday from the UK so in a week or so I'm going to be a happy gamer with 35 more games to look at. :)

I decided to list one of the mediashelving boxes I got sent on the local auction house in NZ. Thought it might be interesting to see if other people are keen on protecting their carts and look good at the same time. If there's plenty of interest I'll order that box from Videoshopper sooner rather than later. Oh.... I think I used your piccies from the early pages on this forum Backlash as they're perfect for showing people what they look like and my digicam's busted at present.

Don't worry ..... I'm not looking to make a wholesale profit out our efforts .... just recoup a few of the hundreds of dollars I've spent buying the boxed games to scan for the cause.

Nate .....Getting that site to upload raw scans going again may help in getting people not too comfortable creating covers but who have a scanner and boxes to at least contriute to the project. So sooner is better ......

N64 List Updated

I added the two PAL games to the list.

I have been really busy, not having time to scan my n64 game labels. Once I get a good five hours of free time, I could do it.

Thats great that Videoshopper is now offering international orders.
It's ok..... I was just letting off steam.

I stick to my point though, why is there a list for PAL AND NTSC? I put to you that it is because people would like a cover that is accurate to the game and country of origin. You have done some sterling work by uploading all these covers for us but as a British user, i would like all my covers to be british, not simply a very similar version of the NTSC ones with the word PAL stuck on them, as a fully qualified designer i am perfectly capable of adding 3 little letters if that was the issue. I am NOT suggesting that you buy or upload anymore covers, i would simply like it to be recognised in the list that most of the games are not in fact complete and would like to add another column if possible. I own 62 games of which i have genuine PAL(UK) covers for 12, 4 of which i have downloaded thanks to others efforts and 8 I have scanned and edited. If another column was included i would like to try and find a way to get these 8 covers online.

If my point was not valid then we would simply have one list column rather than two. Its the same point purists in the US made when they asked that a NTSC version be included rather than a PAL.

What? ..... do you think I text in the words PAL on a US box and then submit it as PAL? Don't be daft! Have a look at the back and you will see AUS/NZ in the wording.
I'll state it again. The list is NOT a definitive statement and shouldn't be read as such.
Snack-bar is THE definitive statement of what we have as it nicely seperates EUR from AU and so on. If you can look at the list then surely you can browse the images at Snack-bar?
And if you can submit those EUR covers with the ugly black borders around everything go for it. The more choices the merrier. I was under the impression the first UK games were just like the AUS ones and it was later in the N64 life that they started re-issuing games with the black bordered boxes much like the player series in the States. I have several boxes coming from the UK and not all have the borders which tends to support my view.
So maybe it would've been better if you said " I prefer the PAL boxes with the black surrounds ". That's a personal preference statement and that's fine.

Does anyone else here have an opnion one way or the other?

I've been searching for N64 covers for 2 1/2 years now until I found Snackbar and this site. Since there were mainly Ntsc covers I just downloaded them because I never thought that there would be any PAL covers. But even now that TheValeman stepped up and is uploading tons and tons of PAL covers I'll stick to the red NTSC covers although I have only PAL carts. This is mainly because I like the red much better. I guess thats one of those personal preference statements :) It's great to have the choice, the more the better, but I kind of doubt that there will be PAL covers for all my games considering the pace of this project before TheValeman joined and gave it a kick in the behind. So I guess people are and should be happy with what they have here.

Yeah, let's not lose sight of the original goal - having a nice way to display and protect our cart-only N64 games. Having the exact original matching case is just a bonus for some people. Heck, at the very beginning of the project people were making custom verical cases that didn't match any boxes!

http://www.box.net/public/kc94e2d5kq

I uploaded the Megaman 64 cover to Snackbar, and a copy of it is in the gallery, check it out.

(Sorry I took so long, I always have a hard time asking my brother to scan anything... But it's his scanner, so...)

And about the PAL issue, I cannot say much, as I am not from Europe, thus I can't say I have memories of seeing the black border or something like that.

Exactly.

And there are games out there which we may never end up with scans of the boxes. So home created covers may be the only way to go for those.
Hell.....just using plastic boxes is unauthentic.... hehe. But so much better for keeping carts safe yet usable.

Hey... I'm more than ready to let other people take up the reins and create covers and I'll happily take a back seat. If they can do a better job... kudo's to them. Not that anyone has to date though. I suppose that's why I got annoyed and let it spiral out of control.

Everyone's entitled to their view. I should've let it pass. Apologies to everyone for that. Still ...... at least we got some dialogue going again eh ...:D

Many boxes over here dont have black surrounds its true, as far as i know though none of them have a red right hand side, they just have a full front image. I see your point about not needing a list, i can just download them. I dont want this to get out of hand, i was just putting across my viewpoint, i still think your an absolute legend for uploading all these covers. I think my reasoning is that i want to regain my childhood and have the boxes for games how i remember them if that makes sense? Ive just bought a job lot of manuals to make my games thta bit more accurate. No offence intended.

being F1 World Grand Prix II, Mickets Speedway USA and Fighters Destiny.

Which means you may see box scans of F1 and Mickey's Speedway when I get around to editing them. They suffered compression damage in transit which I'm annoyed at as now it'll take a fair amount of work to clean them up.
Updated the OP a little bit. I'm update again once Nate gets his site back up, if he can.
Everything should be back up right now, I haven't extensively checked really any features except the basic ones, but it should be working now, same info as before.

Are all of the raw scans already done? Probably, but like I stated a few months ago - no info/files were lost =)

Any chance you may be able to host raw SNES scans?

THATS GREAT NEWS!!!!

Thats means that some games like Automobili Lamborghini and Star Soldier are not lost! Awesome! That gives us like about 5 more covers to complete!

with those black borders someone's been dying for :)

Best I could do with the crushing it got in the post. Sigh

Still .... I think it looks pretty good considering

courtesy of EBAY UK.......

Another one of those black bordered jobbies someone here likes

I think that's about contribution #90 up to Snack-bar now.
with those black borders someone's been dying for :)

Thanks ;) hopefully my cases will be arriving from the US any day soon

bringing it up to 65 scanned for prosterity.

I'll have some more box scans up soon too. :)

EDIT. First up after a truckload of cleaning up ......... Rugrats Treasure Hunt PAL

2nd EDIT.... Next we have Quake II PAL wif the luvly black sidebar. Taken off a brand new still sealed box [ I removed the seal though ]

Dont worry about the cut off Quake sign on front cover. I saw it and rectified the full size copy submitted to Snack-bar. Just cant be buggered resubmitting a small pic to imageshack

Next up we have WCW NWO Revenge PAL....again with black sidebar as opposed to US red version........

And last for today is F-Zero X PAL aus/nz to round out the Snack-bar F-Zero collection. Just missing JPN now

OK .... this is the last for the day ..... Cruis'n USA PAL ......

All upped to Snack-bar for Snowcone to do his thing

for those of you interested in my latest purchases for the project.

I have Dark Rift PAL, Extreme-G PAL, Extreme G-2 PAL, Bust a Move 3DX PAL, Turok - Shadows of Oblivion PAL, Robotron 64 PAL, Nascar 99 PAL, Amorines-Project SWARM PAL, Earthworm Jim 3D, Castlevania PAL and Carmageddon 64 PAL all paid for and awaiting arrival. That should bring 4 new covers into Snack-bar and off the "None" list.

And no ... I'll probably lose money reselling them to get all new games.

Maybe we should set up a "contribute to my Paypal" fund. If everyone committed just $5 I could EBay a whole heap more boxed games we dont have covers for. I know some people cant afford to buy games etc but even a small contribution would make it considerably easier if pooled together to make it feasible to make a big dent in the "no scan available" list. For instance ... I have Rugrats in Paris PAL available on Ebay ... only one I've seen anywhere .... but no funds at present until I get these others scanned and on-sold. If I miss it it's highly unlikely we'll see it again. And I've access to some USA boxes not yet scanned too.

And it doesn't have to be me. I'd happily contribute if someone else who's been consistently around on this list wants to do it. I'm already paying out heaps anyway but I'm in too........

Food for thought anyway ...... any opinions or idea's?

when the project first started there was a few auctions with 100 n64 box lots on ebay, i just thought they were a regular thing on ebay so i didn't purchase them at the time... Well I was wrong because i'm still waiting for another large box lot on e-bay. Hopefully if one ever comes up again I'll just buy it, scan em all in, and then resell it again...

As for your donation idea, i can donate $10 to you purchasing games for boxes, but honestly anytime I donate money people always email me back saying thank you you're on of the only ones.... donating via internet just doesn't seem to work.

It's a pity everyone .... well almost everyone .... is from the " I'll take that thanks very much but contribute? No Way" variety. It was abundantly clear when I asked if anyone would send me cases as I was having trouble getting them shipped to New Zealand. And only two people fronted up... one offered covers and the other offered to bring them over personally as he's on holiday here. That's it ... period. BTW I caught up with him and his cousin in Auckland today. Great guys. Had an excellent chat. Alway's good to put a face to a name :)

So? Where to from here?
Maybe I'll just scan boxes for myself and provide the two guys who've helped me out with a copy if they need it.
Or maybe I'll contribute one scan for every scan provided by someone else as an incentive for people to get off their butts.

Rest assured though that the full version of Duke wont be appearing on Snack-bar at the present time. Nor will any others until I work out what I'm happy with.

If people think I'm blackmailing to get money .... nope .... contributing covers will do just nicely thank you.

It's time for people to change their attitudes.

Too bad you're not going to put your new covers on snackbar. Earthworm Jim and Duke Nukem Zero Hour are 2 of the 8 covers I still need.

I understand why you're unhappy with the situation as it is right now but I think you should not blame other people. Nobody ever said that you have to buy so many games on ebay to scan the boxes and now you're complaining that you have spent so much money and nobody else has.
Also I don't like to think that I'm from the " I'll take that thanks very much but contribute? No Way" variety. I have no credit card so I can't send you money via Paypal and a normal money transfer to your bank account would have insane fees. I don't have access to the boxes everyone is using here so I can't send you any of these either. I don't have any covers to scan or contribute, this is why I came here in the first place, to get covers that I don't have. And I won't buy any games just for covers because I don't have a scanner, nor does anyone I know.

I'm not trying to give any excuses, I just tell it as it is. You know I'm thankful for every cover you did, I told you numerous times, so did many other people here. I know and everyone here knows that you're the major player here, and that nobody has uploaded as many covers as you have or put as much enthusiasm in this project as you have with buying all these boxed games. rest assured EVERYONE knows that and EVERYONE here hopes that you stay around for a long time.
But not all people can contribute as much as you have for whatever reasons. I told you mine and I hope you can understand as I don'tz think I'll have to change my attitude. If I have something to contribute I will do so the second the chance comes up. Trust me I'm not happy with the situation either, just getting what I want and not giving anything back but as of right now it can't be helped. :(

I DO hope that you can work out anything you're happy with and if you don't I want to thank you for the covers you've done so far.

Looks like I'll have to save your guys' asses. I'm currently watching around 5 or so auctions for games we don't have, so let's hope for the best here.

EDIT: So far, I won the following(All US):

WWF War Zone
NFL Quarterback Club 98
WCW Mayhem
WWF Attitude (list said a better-quality box was wanted so I grabbed it)

I'll try to get more to please Valeman

I never said I was unhappy paying for buying the games.

I said I was unhappy that even with all of that contributing etc when I asked if someone could ship me some cases.... at my cost as I was happy to pay.... no-one fronted up except one person.

So that sort of gives you an indication of the level of helpfulness that exists here at present. No-one even had the guts to PM me and say they didn't have any or were maybe ordering some at a later date. Nothing.

So get off the high horse on telling me no-one wanted me to buy boxed games to fill in the gaps. Most everyone here has benefitted at my expense. And I was okay with it until no-one helped me.

So....why help others? Do unto others what they do unto you.

Sorry you had a bad experience valeman. From my experience with internet projects you have dozens (or more) reap the benefits, but really just a handful pulling the reins of it all. I actually thought this project had great contributors. We've received scans from quite a few people (at least 15), and there have been people who've broken out case lots to others, also anyone that has drawn more attention to this project (via other forums or even the mod who pinned this topic), and let's not forget about snackbar. Even at one point I was buying boxed games and giving the boxes away to collectors in exchange that they scan in covers I didn't have. Perhaps you just needed help at a slow point in the project.

Regardless, we all hope you stay and help, and if there's something I can do let me know.

Back to the project though.... do we still have photoshop guys that can doctor up all the raw images? I assume we do, but not 100% sure.

Nate
ps - I think (to respond to your somewhat rhetorical last question) you help others because you want to, not because you expect something in return.

ps - I think (to respond to your somewhat rhetorical last question) you help others because you want to, not because you expect something in return.
Yeah ... well ... I got grumpy.

Since December when I found this forum SMMM provided Mystical Ninja raws, 4tygames provided a few raw scans and hardly anyone else. I enjoyed taking them and creating the covers you see on Snack-bar. And just maybe I got carried away with the fact I had access to sooo many unscanned games that I lost the plot. I think 90+ scans is testament to my helping others. I just didn't expect to get shafted when I needed help. As I was happy to pay for everything it wouldn't have cost anyone anything other than a little time boxing some cases up and taking them to the PO. Sheesh....

I also bought a Convertor cart off EBAY so I could buy US games to get some of the more esoteric games like Dual Heroes, Deadly Arts and Aidyn's Chronicles. Then I could play the games which is always a nice diversion from paintshop pro'ing.

But that's taken a backward step now while I evaluate where to go from here. Realistically ..... I'll have to sell off the games I'm waiting on arriving to cover any further purchases. That's why I asked if any one wanted to contribute... so we could get these reasonably difficult to find boxed games off the market and onto snack-bar.

So as the contribution thing crashed and burned I'll settle on option 2. When someone contributes a scan to the cause I'll reply in kind with one. I'll advise what I currently have so people dont duplicate and that's as good as you'll get from me at present. That way I at least get something out of this myself.

Cheers

This will be the message store point for all the box scan's from games I have purchased for the project that HAVEN'T been uploaded to Snack-bar. This will save duplication of effort and anyone else buying games I already have scans for....unless they want the game to play of course.

All pics here are of the box scan ready to upload... minus the "not on snack-bar" wording of course.

Here's how it works. Someone uploads a NEW box not already available in another format gets a new one from this lot uploaded. Someone uploads a variation on one we already have and I'll reply with another one in kind.

I think that's a fair way of getting other people contributing but at the same time avoiding them buying one already available. And I'll always put up here games I have purchased and are awaiting delivery.

So ...... Currently I have ready the following games ..... All PAL .....

Dark Rift ..... NEW!! ......................... Now uploaded to Snack-bar

Earthworm Jim 3D ..... NEW!! ................. now uploaded to Snack-bar

Bust-a-Move 3DX ..... NEW!! ................ now uploaded to Snack-bar

Duke Nukem Zero Hour .... NEW!! ...... now uploaded to Snack-bar

Nascar 99 .... NEW!! .... Uploaded to Snack-bar

Extreme-G .... Alternate PAL version .... Now uploaded to Snack-bar

Extreme- G 2 ... Alernate PAL version .... Now uploaded to Snack-bar

Carmageddon 64 ... NEW!! .... uploaded to Snack-bar

Cheers

N64 List Updated

I do not know where to classify Bust-A-Move 3 though, as only 2 versions of the game were released in the US.

TheValeman: Could you upload the Pokemon Stadium scan to snackbar?

Also, I know N64 Game Boxes are hard to come by. Many people threw these away. Even gamestores like GameStop and EB Games throw away boxes and manuals customers bring in when they trade their games.

I have been really busy, hence I have not checked this thread in over a week and tons of things happened!!

I think the best way to contribute to this thread, even if you do not have any n64 game boxes anymore is to reach out to people and introduce them to this thread. Friends, people on ebay, etc. are great contact sources to get game scans.

When I get some free time, hopefully soon, I will scan some n64 labels.

I thought someone had already uploaded the Pokémon Stadium box :S There is a scan at Gamescanner, but its resolution is not very high, I'm going to make it a box and upload it. If you don't like it I'll get my brother to scan my Pokémon Stadium box.

By the way, I uploaded the Megaman 64 cover on Snackbar, and I posted the image of it, why isn't it on the list?

btw, I also bought some SNES games to bring the SNES project back to life. I posted raw scans a few days but it looks like so one's interested in making them into covers. I'm not trying to soliciate(I bought some boxes for this project as well), I just need that Fatal Fury cover >_>

Is there another Activision game in there? We could just replace it with another game's copyright info and presto! all done.
