name games that are impossible to beat even with codes.

Golden Eye was really easy, but I had a hell of a time unlocking two cheats. The invincibility and invisibility. I finally got the invincibility cheat usig a gameshark so I wouldnt be thrown back by bullets and beat it with ~5 seconds to spare. The archives, however.... AAHHHH!!!! I couldn't get any lower than 1:28 cheating or not.

Jurassic Park for the SNES - it wasn't hard but I don't know anybody that beat it because you had to do it all in one sitting.

I found Friday the 13th for NES to be impossible.

Other hard games for NES

Golgo 13 (the last stage)
Ninja Gaiden

After reading one of the above posts, I now realize that I wasted hours of my life trying to beat X-Men for NES.
Metal Slug 3....so freaking......get to the very end of a level, die, start all the way over.
I hear ya

TMNT, I could get all the way up to Shredder but then lost to him. BTW, I never understood why people thought the underwater part at the dam was that tough, maybe that was just me though. Same thing for Ninja Gaiden, got to the last boss, got her down to 2 bits of health and died. I did end up beating Friday the 13th, took forever and was hard as hell but can say I beat it.

a ahaha I tried playing the Facility the other day and tried to beat/match my old time that gave me invincibility. But I could not even beat the original time you were supposed to beat. I had to turn invincibility on and then run through the thing to do it. I can't figure out how I did it way back when and without using a GS, I did it twice even! I guess I don't play games enough anymore... I'm out of shape! :? But it seems I don't play games anymore, I just buy them and add them to the stack...

I honestly can't remember a game that was too hard to beat. But ever since I was a kid, almost the only games I ever got were ones that I had earned the money for. So they were few and far between. That probably explains it. I would get a single game and have months alone with it, without other games distracting me.

Battletoads you just need to play a lot, and either you can do the bike leavel or you can't (there's even a warp in there if you're quick enough). Goonies II you just had to know where to go. Once you had beat the game once, it was no problem.

Actually, I never took the time to figure Shadowgate out for the NES. So I don't know if it was that hard, or just that annoying. And I guess Ikari Warriors, if you want to say the A,B,B,A continue code is cheating...
According to a friend....TMNT....the first one on NES.
that is actually easy to beat if you give 2 of your turtles 99 scrolls. those spacemen at the end of the game before shreddar are very VERY vulnerable to scrolls

now if you want to talk unbeatable, i think the adventures of rocky and bullwinkle is impossible to get anywhere bc the controls are so dodgy. Anyone who ever played ufouria for the PAL nintendo 8 bit knows it is ass hard.

ikari warriors 1 & 2 were damn hard.

ninja gaiden 3 is pretty difficult. Everyone says the first one is tougher, but i always have trouble with ninja gaiden 3.

ghosts n goblins, i think i got to level 5 and then got stuck. i am pretty sure that it can be beaten without codes.

There was something about the animation on that jump in the seweres of TMNT. Took me 3 years of off and on playing until I found the sweet spot where I could make the jump 33% of the time. Then the game was ok enough to beat. Definitely the most frustrating 1 second section in my 20 years of playing videogames. Battletoads was hard, but it was a general difficulty spread throughout the whole game- beginning to end. TMNT just frustrated me with its sewer jump.

contra??!!!? golgo 13???! you have to be shitting me. those games do NOT belong on the same list as battletoads, ninja gaiden 3, ghosts n goblins, and ikari warriors.

contra can easily be beaten(without using the 30 lives code) and golgo 13, oh man that game is a piece of cake once you get the hang of it.

I would say friday the 13th is pretty difficult until you get the sweater and pitchfork, then it is cake.

The reason why people think that ninja gaiden is so hard is because they probably are trying to run through the whole game. Take the game nice and slow and you'll beat it. Always hit birds and enemies first, before you jump. The hardest part is part 1 because of the fact that if you die at the last boss, you have to start the whole level all over again
According to a friend....TMNT....the first one on NES.
Yep, a very hard game. Also the Transformers game for the NES, but it only came out in Japan.

Ok, not old school, but I just played Gitaroo Man for the first time today. This is hard. I finally beat the first guy/song, thought I was getting the hang of it, and I just got my tail handed to me by the second guy/song.
Transformers (japanese version) for nes- i think it loops infinitely

also, ive never beaten an atari 2600 game- dont remember if they were hard, havent messed with the system since i was about 6
Sorry I didn't see your post. Anyways so that what it was. I really wanted to beat it one day so I cheated using "save state" and I noticed when you got to level 9 and you got past a certian screen you just start the level over. That pissed me off. I guess they tought it was impossible for anyone to actually get to level 9 they skipped the ending.

According to a friend....TMNT....the first one on NES.
I second that :bomb:

Bayou Billy...
Contra: Shattered Soldier... For me at least.
Goonies 2 for NES
The last guy before Shredder's door killed my last turtle... God that game pissed me off, I could never finish it without a game genie.

Oh and good luck beating Abadox without a code.

once you beat stages 3 and 4, the game gets easier. I need to go and play some more of that, as it is really fun.

as far as games, I agree with everyone who posted TMNT (mainly because of me not being able to master the short jump) , Battletoads, and Ninja Gaiden III (that continue system is dumb)

this is not a cheat but I had to cheat by lookin at a guide, the game im talking about it silent hill 1 , that damn piano puzzle with the bird clue , maybe im dumb but I never got that friggin puzzle .

I beat TMNT, it was hard though.

Try Battletoads.
I definately second battletoads. I only made it past those stupid speed bikes *wham* into the wall level like twice. Even with a slow motion controller it was nigh impossible. ackkk.
I love Battletoads. I've finished the NES version, no codes, no level warps, no continues. Did you know it is actually possible to jump the tall walls in the speed bike level?

:notworth:

I made it at least to the rat bomb level (can't remember, been a while :) ) but never beat it.

Again,

Abadox was hard as hell. I only got passed a few levels...

As far as games and completing everything, how about the RUBY and EMERALD weapons from FFVII? Took a very long time and a lot of trying and strategisng to beat those two. Main reason why I love that game.

Random game but the one of the Lion King games for SNES was very difficult... I don't believe there are any cheats for it. Got stuck on one of the levels when I was little so maybe its easy and I just was doing it wrong.

My thoughts exactly. My buddy and I actually had competition to see who could beat Contra (NES) from start to finish more times in a row without dying. It eneded up being a tie as we both died at some point after three times through. It's all about the Spreadshot/Rapid Fire combo baby!

On aside note, I have made it a personal quest to be able to complete every single Ghosts 'N Goblins installment without dying... and I have yet to run across one of them that I couldn't eventually make my bitch... Maximo included.

That being said, Ikari Warriors kicked my F'n ass so hard that it's 20 years later and I can still feel it.

Hehe... thanks tdphillips. Trust me, it took a while, but I just love that game so much. The trick to level 10 is to headbutt the rat off the wall to force him to retrace a plank, while you race onward, then repeat if he catches up. Beware though, levell 11 is a pain, and 12 is - well - a jumping nightmare.

Actually, the way Ninja Gaiden was meant to be played is with enough skill to run virtually through the entire game and just kick ass. It took me a long time and lots of practice to finally beat it, and now I'm good enough to basically do that, only slow down in a few choice spots.

It's always nice to have other people mention games as really difficult and know you've beaten them, such as Contra (without dying), Castlevania, Castlevania III, TMNT, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, etc.

As for the toughest I've played, although obviously not impossible, I'd have to agree with those who said Ghosts 'N Goblins and Battletoads. Both are brutally difficult, and this is someone who has beaten Ghouls 'N Ghosts and Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts pretty comfortably.
Jurassic Park for Genesis was brutal, I don't think it could be beat.
Agreed. Fun game, nonetheless.

After playing NARC for a good 30 minutes today, I can definitely add that one to this list. I cannot beat Mr. Big for anything. Then you continue and the level starts over again. GRRR.
