NBA 2K12 - October 4th - The Greatest Mode Full Reveal
Just read about the kings 01-02 roster being included. Was going to wait for a price drop but I dont want to miss the code. That was their year for the title.
Yeah they even included Funderbruke  I was expecting them to replace him with one those generic bald big men like they did for most legends teams in 2k11.

I also remember reading that the codes were in retail copies as well, probably in the first print run of the disc.

I don't really get why developers have Platinum Trophy achievements for Xbox 360 games.

A month out and zero info on franchise/career additions is kind of worrying.

i dont like how nba 2k uses almost the same achievements for a few years in a row. its not a big deal but when you play the game every year its like ohh this one again because i won a 3 point contest etc etc.

Wow i just read how you couldnt use the classic teams online in NBA 2k11..... they NEED to change that for 2k12. At least in non ranked matches, if i want to play friends im more interested in using classic hornets, magic, knicks, sonics, bulls, than any current team. Or even making my own custom team for online play against friends. If i cant do this then that really makes me wonder if i want to buy the game or not.

oh yeah new trailer

Even though I will end up skipping this since I buy it every other year I do hope they fix the street ball portion. I loved 2k9 playing 3v3 with old school (Magic,Bird,Jordan) vs new school (Wade,Melo,James) but hate 2k11 version with that damn spotlight moving around all the time.

Street ball has always been the red-headed stepchild in this game. The dev's don't really care about it, its really only in there as a "Here, now shut up" feature.

And tell me you didn't just compare Melo to Bird. Wade/Magic and Jordan/James, fine. Okay, I can see the parallels. Melo/Bird? That's just an insult to Larry Legend.
It features an achievement that might not be unlockable already, the NBA Today achievement.
The schedule has already been released, so I'd imagine the NBA Today mode would at least be able to allow us to play the matchups even if there are no real life stats to display in-game.

Demo's been out for almost a week now. Here are some of my impressions.

The new introduction for games is pretty cool. Flashy, poppy, it feels like a TV presentation. The players seem to look more like their real-life counterparts, maybe older due to some lacking textures. Game play seems extremely fluid. I pulled off a pass in mid shot and the animation seemed far more fluid than 2K11. The new post moves controls are a lot better than last year. Pulling off Dirk's step-back jumper was far easier, and felt more rewarding, with the new control scheme. The lack of play calling features in the demo always upsets me, I'm a big fan of running plays, but the one on one play seems to be slightly improved too. Pick and roll defense seems better, but I won't really know until I can call my own picks with the retail build. Overall, I feel there are a good deal of improvements on 2K11's gameplay, but to the untrained eye it could seem like more of the same (just a roster update).

I'll be interested to see how they handle team rosters, but my guess is it will be current up until the day of the draft, which is right before free agency (or when it would have happened). With Rudy Fernandez on the Mavs, this where I get that thought.

Having just one quarter to play, no settings, no commentary, no way to switch teams, and gimped gameplay made this one of the worst demos for a sports game in a while. It seems to play fine, but the package it's presented in is terrible. The demo wouldn't tell me what's going on with career mode, so it would not have made me want to buy it anyway.

Is there any word on what's going on with the career/franchise modes? I haven't seen anything about it and the shitty official site has barely any info on the game existing. Being a week out from launch, the lack of info seems to tell me to stay far away from 2K12.

i reallllllly care about the My Player mode. i played the crap out of that in 2K11 so im hoping thats truely improved. not that it was bad last year but it could always be better.

You guys should both check out the NBA 2K Facebook for more info on both of those. They've put a lot of work in to the Association and My Player mode this year.

As for the demo sucking, it's the same way it was last year too (Celtics/Lakers, user locked to LAL, no commentary/play calling/anything) and we all know how well that game turned out!

after reading most of the developer insights i like the idea of training camp (teaches you how to pull off certain shots) and im happy what i read about my player! finally money involved in negotiating contracts woooooo. more endorsements is cool as well but dynamic goals are one of my favs....getting crapped on by kobe?? stop him next possession and boom bonus points! very cool ideas im glad to see my player really getting fleshed out. first thing im going to do is play the nba's greatest then straight into my player!

So some guy on twitter said there was a way around playing with classic teams online, but i never saw anything about it since. has anyone heard anything about how to use them, because from what ive read, you cant. I really wish we could, or use custom teams online.

yeah 2K has always been a joke when it comes to playing online matches. i literally sat around for over an hour with my friend looking to find opponents in 2K11. if people have to pay for it they damn well better not have any issues. realistically i more than likely wont be buying the "legends showcase". is this 2K's project $10 you guys think?

I'm signed up with the CAG league, so maybe I'll end up getting this. I've got some old friends that still work at the 2K test facility, so maybe I'll do it to help support them. Honestly though, if I had never worked there, I'd probably be shitting all over them for this move.

I wonder what the "Import My Player" feature will be. I hope its not from last years game (even though that'd be awesome for some people) as I didn't play that mode at all.
yeah 2K has always been a joke when it comes to playing online matches.
You're not kidding, that's why most of the 2k leagues of CAG have failed. I had to stop playing in one a couple years back just because I couldn't take the online's craptasticness.

As much as I love the NBA 2k series and everything offline about it, they really do need to work on the smoothness of the online matches.

I'm already pumped to play as the 94-95 Magic next week.

That would be awesome if you could integrate My Player from 2k11 in some way. I put in waaaaaaaaaaay too much time in that.

Im still on the fence with buying this game, so i was hoping someone who gets the game could answer these questions....

1. How much does it cost to play with classic teams online?

2. Can i make a created team with nba jerseys and use them online?
I read in 2k11 you could make a team in association and then export them out and save it as a created team. Hopefully you can do that, and use em online.

This game is pretty insane, in the best possible way. I'm so pissed I have shit to do tomorrow.

#7, if someone hasn't responded by the time I get to game tomorrow, I'll check both of those out tomorrow. The one thing I can point out now though, is that rosters need to be the same for online play, so I don't know if you can take created teams online.

Okay, id also like to know how the online is. I cant stand playing games where you press a direction and it takes him a second to actually move. So any comments on how good the online is would be great.

That export trick still works (side note with vintage team's and uniforms later). Don't know if you can play them online. I can't find the DLC, but I didn't really look that hard, so I can't answer that.

On to the side note. The vintage team jerseys are only available for that team, so I can't use the 65 Celtics jerseys on the current day team, so I took the 65, 85 and 2011 Celtics into the Association and put everyone on the 65 team. All the 2011 C's shorts shrunk when that happened.

So the lesson here is: They wouldn't put all the vintage jerseys in use for current day teams because they were too lazy to dev a short length option per player and not per uniform.

i have a 2K11 question actually. in 2k11 can i play as the 98 bulls in association?? i read that i could but for the life of me couldn't figure out how to add them from the teams to select from. it would be awesome to play as the 98 bulls and pop in the old celts, hawks and jazz teams with 2011 other teams. meanwhile just killing time until my copy of 2k12 shows up.

I really hate how they change the post moves. I see no reason why this had to be changes and it no looks to be more limited than before. How the fuck do you do a regular drop step hook shot?

Last year all you had to do was hold LT then hold the shot stick toward the way you wanted to turn and hook. Now it wants you to press it toward the basket but that makes you jump into the defender and causes a wacky animation.

Turn Customize League on in the Association Settings when setting up your new Association. This will send you to a menu where you can replace existing teams with vintage teams. Its the same way in 2K12 too. I believe this is how you can bring in player-made teams as well, but don't quote me on that.

In other news, I still can't get online to work for me.

Damn i got this game and in my first game i lost to the 95 magic as the 95 knicks by 1 point. At the end of every quarter it was tied, then near the end ewing missed 2 point blank shots to tie the game. Magic scored again, Christie hit a 3, but there wasnt enough time to intentionally foul after that, game over.

I was able to make a team in association, then export it out and save it. But i was hoping to use last years wizards jerseys and not the new ones they would wear this upcoming season. Is there any way i can do this? When i load the team i saved, it only lets me pick the current jerseys home or away and nothing else.

I dont get how to share images/video. I linked my twitter/youtube accounts, did the email, but so far nothing shows up. Ive tried to upload video and images. It like renders the video, then says its done, ready to share. Is there something else i have to do?

Oh i got magic johnson, i didnt really care who i got i just let the guy grab me a copy and Magic was the one.

Got a Magic copy through Amazon.

I've played quite a few games online with friends and have encountered 0 lag problems or anything else thus far. I really hope this continues because that was my only real problem with the game in the previous years. I've beaten two of the greatest games so far and they have been a blast. The only real annoyance I have is that my player may be too realistic... Vince Carter won't pass the damn ball.

Ive beaten

Michael Jordan
Hakeem Olajuwon
Scottie Pippen
John Stockton

Actually just crushed Lakers with Jazz 36 to 65. Only one i failed was my first game Knicks vs Magic so far.

I might try Creating a legend later, with someone like Jordan Crawford maybe. Someone young. I dont really want to get into my player yet until maybe the lockout ends and i get real rookies.

I can't beat the computer on Hall of Fame anymore. Seems like every shot they take drops and I'm even struggling on superstar.

Anybody find a real play calling menu yet? I hate this new truncated one they have. Last years was so much better. I don't want to just call "Post up", "Iso", "Get Open", I want to call and run actual plays.

One thing that bothers me is when you are on a fast break and you pass it forward your teammates slow down to catch the ball instead of just staying in stride. Which causes you to lose your cutting lanes half the time.

I was playing the magic johnson legends challenge, and made a sweet drive and dunk with byron scott and right when i dunked the anouncers said "OHHHH", it was pretty awesome. So far they have all been pretty easy aside from beating Orlando with the Knicks. I beat that on my 2nd try but it was still close.

Playing the John Stockton challenge my player of the game was Malone, and when i played the Malone challenge Stockton was POG. LOL

Practice is kind of annoying. Do i really have to watch the guy walk to the court, or press A to skip it for every new move? Why cant i just pick which ones i want to learn. If i do a my player or create a legend ill be a guard, no need to learn post move, i want to learn off ball movements, or passing. When i do learn a move why do i only do it once, i wont remember shit if i only can do it once and move on. It should let you practice it over and over until you want to move to the next move. I dont even like using the RS for shooting, or anything, im more likely to use X for shooting, which takes away half the moves.

i got the Jordan cover from Newegg which im super happy about, love MJ. im struggling with this game for some reason, seems the controls are different and im just used to 2k11. i really love how they re created the old style of the games from the 60's and 70's very good presentation work. the only thing ive tried so far has been the greatest players i think tomorrow i'll jump into my player.

Ive been playing my player and its pretty cool. But there are little annoyances here and there.

- I get penalized for opponent scoring when im guardian a guy in the post, but someone else made a 3. I guess my matchup switched when i was waiting for my matchup to come running down the court. The switching is a little annoying, but doesnt happen that often.

- I got penalized for bad transition D when a guy stole the ball in the backcourt and had clear path to the hoop. How was my 7 foot 350 pound guy supposed to go hoop to hoop before a quick guard, who was already 10 feet ahead of me?

- I actually got penalized because i was pressing A to skip a cut scene, but ended up calling for the ball in a bad spot.

- You have a circle to get into when running a play, and it takes 5 minutes to get there because every step you get shoved, or your player has to take 12 step animations that take you out of the way.

- Love when the team finally passes me the ball, too bad 3 seconds are on the shot clock.

- Trying to lock up with a guy to deny him post penetration is hit and miss. Ive tried to hit LT to initiate it, then someone like nene or mcdyess just walk right past me, get the pass, easy score.

- Sometimes i get out rebounded by smaller guys when i clearly should have grabbed a rebound.

- I post up, make a move, and hit the shot stick/button and my guy throws up some wacky goofy ass shot like he never played basketball in his life. This is annoying. I mean do your hook, stop and shoot, dont fumble bumble and throw up some whoop de do shot.

Whats the deal with the blinking circle underneath your player when you shoot? Is that like the release point or something?

I am having a little trouble with the controls also 7th. Its getting a little better the more I play but I really hate how they changed everything....I just dont see a reason for the change.

Still havent figured out how to do a drop step hook shot...it was easy and made sense in the last game.

Maybe its because my "my player" sucks rating wise. When i played ewing/olajuwon greatest games it was pretty easy to score, and didnt throw up stupid shots. Especially with Hakeem. He was almost too easy to use. But sometimes i think its the packages i picked for his runner or whatever.

Its weird because my guys rating is like 80 inside, 70 close, 35 mid..... yet i can consistently drain 15-18 footers. Yet inside, half the time i throw up a shot like my guys never played a game in his life.

Played some more tonight. Its becoming really boring and annoying playing My Player as a center. Im 7'2" and I am constantly getting out rebounded by my 6'0" teammates on defensive boards. Its almost impossible to get an offensive board. Either i get blocked out, or when im under the hoop my team always makes the shot. I try to post up and they never pass it. When i do get it there is 3 seconds left on the shot clock and it takes my guy 5 seconds to do a turn around jumper. Last game they passed it to me with clock running down and i was by the 3 point line. ummm ok. I want to actually do SOMETHING with my guy. I cant rebound, score, block. All i do is run up and down the court setting picks and blocking out. Last game i had to get a damn rebound, dribble it all the way down the court, then post my self up to actually get a shot. LOL

My guy is averaging 21 minutes a game, 6 pts, 4 rebs, 0.8 ast, 0.7 blk

For some reason my GM decided it was a good idea to trade Dorell Wright and Vladamir Radmanovic for Shannon Brown and Luke Walton. LOL

Figured out the full playcalling settings. Press LB (L1), pick a player, pick a play. Confusing, in comparison to last year, but a lot more is there. Still reserving judgement on if its an improvement or not.

I had the same issues. I was getting passed to a bit more than you're saying you are. When I'd post up, and the ball was on my side of the court, I'd call for the pass. More often then not, I'd get it. Try that? I didn't get any "bad call for pass" mark downs as long as it was on my side too.

Yeah sometimes i get that bad call for pass when im standing in the middle of the paint. I just got my first start. In 37 minutes i had 6 points (2/7 FG) 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 4 blocks. Maybe im just expecting way too much too soon. I think i should at least be getting more rebounds, smaller guys keep getting them over me. I cant see me playing this mode for 5+ years of 82 games a season. I might have to start skipping to next important game. I just hate skipping a game, though he might end up doing better then what ive been doing.

Is anyone else receiving an you must be signed into xbox live error when trying to do anything online? Clearly I am already signed into xbox live.

Ok so i played a My Player game with running plays off, and my center General RAAM scored 40 and 10. Wow, i got 11,000 skill points off that one game since i got extra bonuses for scoring 30, 40, 30 & 10, 40 & 10, 3 steals, etc. This game i shot very well too, sometimes i get games where my hook just misses every time. I still hope i can help his rebounding, i should be averaging more, but like i said before guards are out rebounding me for them still.

It seems like its better playing without running plays on. Guys dont stand around waiting for me to get in the circle, then play pops up, wait more for my to get over to set the screen, and so on. So yeah im leaving that off, setting picks when i want, calling for the ball more. This is a really fun mode. The only thing i hate about nba games is their 82 game schedules. I always preferred madden franchises because its only 16 games, and it goes by quicker. So its easier to do multiple years in football.

Play only the important games? You still get skill points.
