I had a 60" SXRD XBR1 that started giving me green blobs. Is that the problem you are getting? Best Buy replaced the Optics block or whatever it was called twice and called it quits offering a replacement after just two attempts instead of three since the part was so expensive. If the service plan at Tweeter is the same, they will not give you straight up credit but instead will give you credit towards another TV. So if your replacement TV is less than your current one you will not get the extra. I could be wrong about this, but you may want to look into that as well.
When I replaced mine I wanted to get the 60" XBR2 as the new models do not have the same quality issues as the XBR1s but Best Buy does not carry the 60" XBR2 so I upgraded to the 70" XBR2. Best Buy gave me about $1000 off as well as crediting me the $4000 I had spent on the 60" XBR1. I had to pay the difference that with tax amounted to a few hundred. Alot of money to drop on a TV, yes, but I also wanted to stay with the XBR line of SXRD TVs as they are widely regarded as having excellent picture quality and I didn't want to leave Best Buy with any of the credit.
How are you liking the 70" XBR2? I'm considering the 70" XBR5, which comes out soon. What is your seating distance by the way? Mine's about 13-14 feet, so I'm hoping 70" will be about the right size.
