When I put games in my NES, I have to shove 'em in with a pretty fair amount of force. I think this also contributes to the blinking screen a lot, as well. Is there a guide that will walk me through fixing this, step-by-step?

that's what she said

Did you put a new 72 pin connector in it (Or did someone else?) those things can be really tight sometimes. Have you cleaned the games themselves?

And what games? All of them? several of the unlicensed games seem to have thicker PCBs.
Maybe you've got a cartridge slot troll...
Someone's a Kev Smith Fanboy :x

On the same note, I saw Clerks 2 for the second time today :D

you want a tight slot to start out with. As you insert carts into your slot over and over, it will gradually loosen up over time, as you use it, until your no longer interested in it and go get yourself a nice new young console with a tight slot.

If you've taken it apart recently to clean or replace your 72 pin connector, loosen the screws that hold down the cartridge tray about a quarter turn each.

Has it always been like this with your NES? Did you replace the 72-pin connector recently?

I haven't replaced the connector, it's just always been tight. I actually bought it off someone on CAG. Bastard said it worked fine! ;) I did open it up recently to clean the metal pins, but I didn't mess with the tension in those screws. I guess I have to re-do the whole process, as the blinking light syndrome has not gotten better at all.

sounds like the connector might not be good. I've never heard of it being too tight to play games (the new ones are always super tight.)
this is a dumb question, but your games are clean too, right?

Have you tried taking it to an italian resturant, have a couple bottles of wine till 2am...then having great conversation with it as you drive it home, saying things like "We really get each other"?

From there give it a good night kiss, it should ask you to come in for a nightcap.

Usually at that point, I ask if it wants to watch a movie and then work up to it closer and closer until I'm throwing my tongue in it...

Then I slowly rub it's expansion slot until it rolls to the floor where I gently lick around the hinges of the enclosure while telling it, that it tastes so good... Some times I throw a finger in there while biting the "power" and "reset" button slightly. Then usually I'll nibble its power cord a bit until I look it in the blinking red light and thrust the grey cartridge into its gaping orifice. If you press it down, at the right spot... you're golden.

Then its on to some Mega Man 2! Hell yeah!

Anyways, thats what usually works for me, just keep at it... and it'll moan in Mario 3 everytime.

*Dont know if this works on a Famicom, I'm not into asians.

Do you have a Game Genie?

In the past when I would have blinking problems I would try putting a game in the Game Genie and the problems weren't as bad.

I opened mine up for a cleaning last night, and it was too tight as well (and the cart holder wasn't staying in the DOWN position).

Loosen the screws that hold the top of the case on, as well as the screws that hold the cart holder in place. This might clear it up.

I bought a new 72 pin adapter and eventhough it works grewat (seriouslly plays like 90% of games on 1st try) it is VERY TIGHT when it comes to pulling games out. I wondered thsi too when I got it, but this is how new 72 pin connectors are.

Inspect the cart slot with a flashlight and check for a bent pin. If that is not the case work the cart in and out several times to wear your new 72 pin connector in. Tight is good!
