Netflix Streaming Thread 2.0
I've been watching SGU for week or so now. Tonight episode 22. :)

It is a great show. Sad that there's only 40 episodes.
Do you need to know anything about Stargate going in? I've never watched any of it.
Do you need to know anything about Stargate going in? I've never watched any of it.
No not really. I've never watched any stargate but the original movie before SG:U. I still enjoyed it.

There are rare references to stuff that happened in the other series but it's easy to follow still.

Just to watch Stargate: Atlantis, because it's better. I couldn't stand SGU. Having only one likable character will do that to a show. :bouncy:

I know people enjoy the Stargate, but I can't get past the MacGyver part of the deal.

Plus, I have friends who like the TV show but talk down on the movie, which makes me think I wouldn't like the TV show because I like the movie. Am I wrong, is the movie a turd? It's a fun flick, Snake Plissken + James Spader + half-assed egyptology + Crying Game dude with weird voice. How the shit isn't that good?

I've seen every stargate thing made I think haha - I can't say that I recommend SG1 or Atlantis even or really any of them. Me and my wife got "invested" in them and just kept watching. SGU was pretty good we thought. More edgy drama (think BSG but not near as good) and less campy. SG1 and Atlantis were a bit campy and cheesy - esp. SG1. There is some neat mythology to them all and we enjoyed it but I'm not sure we'd go back and do it again. But I guess the campy-ness is what they got known for really.

The movie is a different beast and I thought it was a neat movie. To me the SG1 series sorta went a different direction (umm I know I keep saying it but - campy anyone?)

Yeah a friend kept telling me to watch SG1 and when I did I was surprised by how corny it could be. The movie had a serious tone, those shows do not.

I am really not wild about the new "Watch Instantly" page. It's really stupid that if I click on something I'm interested in, it starts streaming it rather than taking me to the page with the description and reviews on it so I can find out more about it. Even dumber is that, if I choose a television show, I have to let it start streaming then choose what episode I want to watch.

This. While I agree Atlantis and SG1 were campy, they were still pretty good. SGU was a knockoff of BSG, and not a very good one at that. The last episode of SGU makes me want to punch a baby in the face.

The movie is good. At the time we didn't have the Mummy movies or the Fifth Element. So all of the Egypt scenes were new and exciting, and throwing the scifi element into the mix was fairly novel.

Part of the fun was finding out what was on the other side of the stargate (there was a long buildup IIRC). Knowing what it's all about beforehand ruins alot of the surprise. Plus it was an effects-driven summer popcorn movie and they almost never age well.

That is driving me crazy. I'm used to clicking on something and having it load the description page, not loading the movie right away. I can't believe anyone would want it to honestly.

Dammit. Now I have to watch SGU. I want to punch baby faces, too.

It's been a while, too, since I last punched baby face. Maybe the final seasons of LOST? The finale certainly did it, after that was over I walked around the neighborhood and punched baby faces like an angry Wee Willy Winky. God I love kids.

Christ is there a way to change the instant queue? Now I can't even order it or anything and I can tell they just fucked up the order I had shit in again.

Not a fan of the new UI Netflix is using on the PS3 app, as it's like the Xbox 360 app and I preferred the simple set-up that I had before.

 I remember when Sony Pictures' Netflix contract expired a few years ago and people turned it into a conspiracy about Sony pulling the movies so Xbox 360 users couldn't watch them.

neat thread

i really like netflicks anime. it's not really as fast as lets say hulu but they keep up with the dvd releases, great quality(sort of hard to find on the web sometimes) and is in freaking English hehe.

I got through terminator about a month ago. was good till the 2nd season then was a trainwreck from there.

working on Battlestar Galatia again. 1st time i didnt really start watching it till the pegases movie then got hooked. Imo except for the opening movie, thats really w hen should watch it lol. :)

Enterprise? Voyager? I know DS9 (the one I really want) isn't coming until October but I thought the others were available now...

Are those seasons actually there? When I added the original series to my queue, it only had seasons 2 & 3 and said the first season episodes are unavailable.

Seasons 2 and 3 are up, but I don't think the first is. It should be soon. SHOULD be. When you go to the instant streaming page, it says "Seasons 1-3".

/edit: Via the site, I clicked Star Trek, and it still says Seasons 1-3, but at the bottom, just shows Seasons 2 & 3. However, when I clicked "streaming episodes", season 1 popped up. I clicked an episode and it played.. so.. give it some time, I guess. Maybe they're still updating.

Most are coming online now, but a few episodes are still missing, for example Broken Bow from season 1, and the last 12 eps from the final season are still not up.

ahh TNG streaming to my TV while I drink heavily of Long Island Iced Teas this weekend is about the greatest thing ever. Maybe even rent Bulletstorm.

Star Trek is one of those shows I end up watching backwards, cause they all seemed to get better around the second to third season. So starting at the last season gets to the quality stuff faster.

I think ill be checking out Enterprise and Voyager (and DS9) once they are up. The only Star Trek i've ever really watched is TNG. Have the Original series on blu that i will get to eventually - don't have high hopes for the other series, except Enterprise, making it to HD.

Enterprise was okay, I really liked it when they had the Xindi arc. The last season was terrible though.

All seasons for the original series are showing up now. I could only add Next-Gen to my queue, as the others seemed to have issues showing up so I could add them.

Though I'd imagine that it looked great in the 60s, I'm fascinated by the special effects that they came up with in the original series. This reptile-like alien that Kirk is fighting seems to only move at the speed of an old lady and breathes like a huge nerd, which I'd bet are due to the crummy suit.
New season of Pawn Stars is up.
Thanks!

My wife and I have been waiting for this. Unfortunately.. she won't be back from visiting her family for 3 more weeks. Must not get the urge to watch without her... !

That show would've been very interesting had they not done the whole temporal cold war thing. The Xindi thing worked but ending the season with the Alien Nazis was a dick slap to the face, it was trending upward when they cancelled it though. The series finale was so bad that it probably killed Star Trek on TV for good.

And the irony is, nearly all the Star Trek series are the same. Fairly bad seasons 1 and 2, and slowly improving through the end.
X-men Evolution is up too. Yeah!
Evolution was garbage when it started, but got better in the second season.

We've temporarily put ST talk in the Netflix thread.

Enterprise's theme (I know, I know, it's a dead horse...) typifies, for me, so much of what was wrong with the show. It was looking to expand the ST demographic using a lot of superficial tricks, but at its heart, the writing and production really just wanted to re-heat DS9/Voyager leftovers. So it lost on both counts, it couldn't be appealing enough to the non-ST demo, and it couldn't be innovative and fresh enough for the casual-to-hardcore ST crowd.

I don't like the "re-boot" film at all, but at least it gives 100% of an effort in appealing to a broader audience. Enterprise was incredible weak sauce, it didn't know what the hell it wanted and it showed in pretty much every episode. I dislike that show so much for how lazy it was.

I especially hate Archer's dog. I think of myself as a dog person, but I want to punt that dog across the bridge of the Enterprise like so many cats. Stupid captain and his stupid dog. And water polo? Overheard in pre-production writers' room: "Hey guys, you forgot to give him a sport like Sisko, remember? FILL IN THE BLANKS ALREADY. Seriously, guys, how hard is it to make a captain? Now, where are we with the sexy vulcan?"

EDIT: Suffice it to say I will not be viewing Enterprise on Netflix. If I want Jolene Blalock's tits, I'll use GIS like every right-minded ST fan should.

I think its clear that I havent!!!
Are any PS3 owners having playback issues? I can't connect. 360 is fine though...
I have constant issues with the PS3 streaming which is why I've switched to using my 360 almost exclusively for streaming. I don't get what the deal is but just starting up Netflix on PS3 almost always causes it to hang for at least a few minutes and sometimes it'll just timeout completely.
