Man I'm having a really hard time not opening Ridge Racer DS in case they don't pricematch.... I know it won't be a great game but my lack of DS titles make me want to try something out on it....

Guess I'll just use Meteos to satiate my poor neglected handheld...
 
I would go pick up some games but I dont have the extra cash to do so. Hopefully not all the games will be gone on the 3rd

a lot of these games went up in price and then back down. I got breakdown for $10 last october and then it went up to $16.96 and now it's right back

I still have Slugfest 2004 for Xbox unopened from last year's sale. I probably have some other games unopened as well but I can't remember right now.

I got too many games last year that I only played once or twice and I ended up trading a few in during the various EB promotions.

This year I am going to be much more selective (not even sure if I am going to get anything)

I did have a shit ton of the more...craptacular games still sealed. That is, until the whole EB bonus credit (no exclusions) deal a few months back. Man, I unloaded so many of those shit titles...then I used the credit to get a dirt cheap PSP! Whoo.

Yup, I also still have sealed games from that sale.

I went crazy with last years sale considering they were $5.00 each, I bought some games I never thought I would ever end up with.

This time around I will have to be more selective. It truly is amazing how much $5.00 can make a difference.

hahahaha i know just how you feel... haha... i mean i guess i could play more mario 64 or kirby canvas curse... but a new game i haven't tried yet is sitting right over there... oh well... im pretty sure i can hold out.

It forces you to choose quality over quantity.

But if you use Pricegrabber rebates, many titles become $5 dollars in the long run.

Ridge Racer DS is one of them.

How long do their rebates take?
 
Are they even worth the time?

You have to write a review, then mail out the form, and it says that it's limited to the first 50 submissions as well.
 
They won't let you get the rebate form if they have 50 so you won't waste time writing a review for no reason (if the page doesn't say $5 bonus, then there is no rebate or they already have 50). You can send multiple forms in one envelope so it's no big deal on postage.

It takes me about 10 minutes to write the review, print out the form, make the copies of receipts and UPC codes and fill out the form.

Indeed. I actually wouldn't really be interested in this sale at all if it weren't for the Pricegrabber rebates. Pretty much everything I'm getting is good for the Pricegrabber.
 
after thinking this through:

this sale sucks and youre all caught up in alot of hype and memories of the sale from last year.

alot of the games on the list arnt worth $10 (or the hassle of the rebates) since most of those game will be $5-10 ANYWHERE shortly if not already.

the 4 games i was looking in to getting were baten kaitos, ridge racer ds, day of reckoning, and warrior within. and the only one i thought this might be my last chance to get at $10 was kaitos.

so i went and picked up kaitos for full price today, if they dont let me adjust it, ill simply return it...but really this sale is nothing special, but i might be there sunday morning, just to see people go crazy over something so unspectacular ^^

alot of the games on the list arnt worth $10 (or the hassle of the rebates) since most of those game will be $5-10 ANYWHERE shortly if not already.

the 4 games i was looking in to getting were baten kaitos, ridge racer ds, day of reckoning, and warrior within. and the only one i thought this might be my last chance to get at $10 was kaitos.

so i went and picked up kaitos for full price today, if they dont let me adjust it, ill simply return it...but really this sale is nothing special, but i might be there sunday morning, just to see people go crazy over something so unspectacular ^^[/QUOTE]

It depends on what games you want.

I missed every EB temp. price drop on Rumble Roses, so getting it for 9.99 in a store is a good deal to me.

$10 dollars was my magic price for Suffering and KoF: Maximum Impact.

Ridge Racer is $5 after the rebate - even if it sucks, I can trade it into EB / Gamestop for more than that.

There was hardly anything spectacular about the $5 dollar sale either, other than the games like Rez, Disgaea, or MvC 2. Alot of those games were pretty shitty. It's just subjective to who's buying it and for what reasons.

On the whole though, yea, alot of the games are meh, but Circuit City really dosen't have alot to clearance out other than this.

Also, about the rebates being a hassle - CoffeeEdge has made the Pricegrabber rebates seem extremely easy to do compared to other ones. If it wasn't for his constant backing of them, I probably wouldn't care to do them.

you cant just bust into a store with a video camera (especially looking like i usually do) if i tape, im doing it with my digital camera, which is much easier to hide and inconspicuous.

$10 for the games I wanted off that list, which were a few, seemed like an OK thing to me. $8 after PM is a tiny bit sweeter. Pricegrabber rebates make the few more even sweeter.

$5 sale netted a few gems for me, DOA:XBV, Crimson Sea, Morrowind:GOTY edition, and a few others. Most was enh, OK.

Pricegrabber rebates are as simple as they come, as long as you understand what needs to get done.

I just think it's the fact alot of these games are getting universally clearanced.

This is the 3rd time Rumble Roses has hit rock bottom prices at three different stores, for instance. In last year's $5 CC sale, alot of the games just dropped out of nowhere, but with this year's sale, alot of the games we've been seeing are dropping.

It's mostly like playing catch up on clearance games you might have missed.

obviously it varies person to person as for what titles people want, what im saying is eventully (soon-ish) every title on the list will be readily avaliable for $10 or less, if youre picking up games to trade in, i doubt youll make much.

last years sale has marvel vs capcom 2 (for ps2 and xbox) rez, ikaruga, viewtiful joe (gc exclusive at the time) disgaea, mario party 4, r.a.d., and thats just off the top of my head, and these were $5 not $10, other than MAYBE VJ have you had the chance to get any of those for $5 since?

the rebates are also person to person, i dont have a printer, so they do me little good. i could print them off in school and stuff but classes dont start for another 2 weeks, and who's to say ill even remember to get them done? i can be pretty flaky, and knowing this, i avoid rebates whenever possible.

im just saying the amount of hype this sale is getting is not proportionate to the quality of the sale.

Very true. Last time, we were "WTF is with these games for $5?" since most didn't make much sense.

This time around, yes, most make sense for their pricing. RR is a great example of it.

i will say though, if these were gunna be 5 bucks, i would be stocking up on games id never play again.

what can i say? im a sucker for a game that $5 or less

I used to own RR DS and Asphalt and RR is absolutely horrible. The only reason I might pick it up again is because I need to spruce up my DS collection since I decided to rebuy it not too long ago.
 
I lost interest in Ridge Racer fast but I think it's worth $10. I didn't pay that much for it(used the $10 gift voucher from when EB had 1080 and Wario World for $9.99 each and the $20 gift voucher from when they had Max Payne 2 for $9.99 with a $20 gift voucher) but it's a fun game. I think the problem for me was that it was just a port of a N64 game I already finished. I know Mario was a port as well but they added so much to Mario to make me want to play it again. Had Ridge Racer had new tracks, I think I would have played it more.

That's exactly what I did. I have a summer class in a computer lab so I just sat there after class one day and printed all the UPC's and forms I needed on the lab's laser printer. I figured, why waste ink and paper at home? (plus the normal computer labs not for class only have dot matrix printers which of course wouldn't work for the UPC's).
 
Well as of now, the only game that is gonna be an actual amazing price is KoF Collectors Edition, since most of the other ones go for around the same price (or cheaper) on eBay. Here's hoping they decide to change their minds last minute and drop these to $5 a pop.

I bought KoF Collectors Edition for $15 a few months back. So, for $9.99 it really isn't that fantastic.

well from my experience, handheld games dont seem to drop in price too often or too low... thats why i was pretty glad about the $10 for RR DS (plus the extra $5 off for remembering to do pricegrabber rebate(s))

No, it's not bad at all, in my opinion. It's pretty much the exact same as RR64.

one question... does it have the blur fade trails for the brake lights?
 
Well, it really isn't all that amazing.
It is exactly like the N64 RR ver. since it is just a port and it has not aged well at all. Furthermore, Ridge Racer DS is (IMO, of course) the worst RR game available.

Also, the reviews are not spectacular at all. It has a 64% at Gamerankings.com.

I really wish Namco had created an original RR title for the Nintendo DS because it could've been extremely better. It's just hard to say it's good when you have RR games like Ridge Racer Type 4 which blows RR DS away. At least if Namco was porting over a game, I'd rather it have been RR Type 4 or one of the other PSone versions but I'm sure that would require more effort (god forbid :lol: )

Anyways, for $9.99, I definitely say it's worth having in the collection just for the heck of it. Not to mention, it makes for a decent game to play in short bursts since it is a game that you can lose interest in extremely fast.

Oh and yes it does have the blur. :)
 
yeah i remember when ridge racer was the ku racing game back in the day, ppl were always talking about the blur.

well im not expecting anything amazing like pgr2 or forza, just a racing game that isnt horrible... i guess "horrible" is dependent on the beholder tho eh...

*shrug* its only $5 after the rebate. not a big deal. plus i could always just return it since im not going to open it for another week (return/rebuy option)
 
I am getting POP:WW and Project:Snowblind for sure. I own a XBOX, GC, and will own a DS on tuesday. Any games I am missing? What is Baten Kaitos like?

Baten Kaitos is regarded pretty well on this forum, it's the only forum I've been on where people praise it a lot; but then again the Gamecube has a pretty paltry RPG lineup so most RPGs on GC get more praise than they deserve. I'm still going to get it for $10 if I can since I really want a new RPG for cube.
