Most of you know the deal...This week (6/20-6/26) it's for GTA: Vice City on the PS2.

For the uninformed, go to your local Target and see if they have GTA: Vice City for the PS2 in stock. If it's out of stock, ask an employee for a raincheck and he/she will hand you one for 48% off any item in the same product category, that being games. GTA: VC is regularly $30, it's on sale this week for $15.88, hence the 48% off.

As always, this deal is YMMV due to some Targets changing their raincheck policy from the Madden fiasco. Also some Target stores will only let you use the rainchecks on a $30 dollar game as opposed to a game that's more or less than $30 or you may only be able to use the raincheck on the same system the raichecked game was for.

Last but not least, DON'T ABUSE THIS DEAL, you'll only ruin it for the rest of the communtiy if you go out and get 20 rainchecks and then your store decides change it's policy. It's happened before, so just keep your raincheck hunting to a minimum.

Confirmed Game 48%*:
GTA: Vice City

*Raincheck may only work on $30 games.

I don't understand why I can't continue to use the Manhunt rain checks. The clerk last week seemed to input the 48% off manually. Is there something on the receipt that says when it will be cancelled or something?

if you have a problem with the last few remaning copies of a game at your local target (lets say 3 manhunts), and you need that 45% raincheck, just buy the manhunts, return them at different targets or at seperate times, then ask for rainchecks. its a little work but at least you get the shot at the percentage off.

its above the item description on the raincheck

A little drastic. I hope you didn't go through this process.

no, i did it for two copies of a game once to get a 48% raincheck. Didnt bother me much because at the time (before my area basically stopped clearencing games) i would go to multiple targets in a week, since i was there returning virtually was a breeze.

sorry to u veterans...
i'm a total newbie at rainchecks, so can someone give me a throurough explanation of what I should do and how it really works... thanks...

You know, perhaps it is just me, but that just sounds slightly less than ethical.

I'd say that half of what I read on this site is "slightly less than ethical" I'd say this and about another third of what is on this site is flat out unethical . . . not illegal, but unethical.

Then again, I bought an Xbox at Target with a free MechAssault and returned the Xbox and kept the free game (the way they calculated it, the game and system were not linked). That was pretty bad
I picked up Chronicles of Riddick today with a Manhunt rain check.

System automatically dropped it down to $27.88.

The game is $39.88 this week so I thought the 45% off might bring it down to under $23 . . . I didn't push it with the clerk (I don't want to be an ass**** on top of being cheap).

Funny the reciept shows "XBOX SFT . . . 27.88 (with a down arrow) the line below says "Regular Price $39.88"

The $27.88 price is consistent with the raincheck policy of discount from a "regular" price . . . I just had hopes of saving the extra $5

Anybody else pick up Riddick?
I wonder if you could go back and get a price adjustment :)

I picked up a raincheck for GTA VC for the 48% off. Any chance I could use it for Xbox Ninja Gaiden ? Any steps I should take?

I just figure that they may tell me to pick a 29.99 game vs. the 49.99 that Ninja Gaiden is going for. But, I figure I can go with Crimson Skies which is 29.99. The games are behind a glass case and will they let you bring them up to the front register for check out instead of the electronics department, say you have more shopping to do?

Well if you have a PS2 or a GC you can always pick up Megaman Anniversary and use the raincheck. Thats what Im gonna do. Thats IF I can pick up a raincheck on GTA for PS2 this week.

it YMMV. Certain stores have different policies. The ones in Orlando won't yet the one in Tallahassee does. Just ask sometime when you are there.

How do you go about getting these rainchecks? If the game's out, just ask any employee for a raincheck and they hand you a coupon for 48% off any game?

Go late at night, usually the elctronics department cash register is shut down by 8:30 or 9:00 (at least at my local Target) and if I buy a game from the case at that time, they tell me to take the game to the regular checkout area.

Just pulled it off in Chicago, got PGR2 for $17. I just played dumb, and got the clerk to admit it would work on any game, although he wasn't happy about it.

Me: "So, in theory, I could come back with another one and get whatever I want half off..."

Him: "Well, if you have those intentions...."

Me: "Well, as long as you have the policy I can take advantage of it."

Him: "Not while I'm around."

Sounds like a challenge to me. :)

Well, I managed to snag a rain-check (just one...didn't want to abuse the deal).

Now I gotta decide...do I want Full Spectrum Warrior for $25, Metal Slug 3 for $20, or Metroid: Zero Mission for $15...
