Wish they had screenshots/renders, but whatever...

The Blutsaugher
For players that earn one third of the 36 new medic achievements, they will be given a new syringe gun. Called "The Blutsaugher," this new weapon no longer has the ability to score critical hits against an opponent. Instead it will draw health from enemies each time a syringe hits. Especially useful as a weapon to retreat away from the fight while staying alive.

The Critzcrieg
Once a medic has earned two thirds of the achievements, they will be granted "The Critzcrieg." This new medigun uses its ubercharge not for invulnerability, but to give its recipient 100% chance to fire critical ordinance. Medics and the player they are charging need to be careful though, because as much fun as it is to fire critical rockets as fast as you can, the other team will see what you're up to and try to put a quick stop to your plan.

The Ubersaw
For the determined medic that has earned all 36 of the new achievements, they will find themselves the proud owner of "The Ubersaw," which will take damage done in melee attacks and convert it directly to ubercharge. Four hits with this new weapon will fully charge whatever medigun the medic has equpped.

Or.. 2 medics with uber gun and uber saw= Chained ubers+ kills. One ubers the other and he hacks away with his saw, charging his uber. Then loop and repeat.
Get ready to log into a server and see 3/4 of the people playing a Medic :p
Good. I love games where each team plays as mostly just one class.

Medicling rush! ^_^

If you've seen the achievements for these, half of them are going to be hard as hell. I mean, deploying an uber less than a second before a crit explosive hit? Seriously now..how can you ever do that except on accident.

Yeah, some of these achievements are fuckeded up. I can see a lot of medics saving on their ubercharge and running towards enemy soldiers just so they can invuln themselves from a crit.

Sounds like the return of the combat medic from Enemy Territory. :\

Or how about the one that's something like: Be the first person to switch to medic on a team with no medics when someone calls for a medic, and heal them 500 points.

The new achievements are going to make most servers 10x less fun to play because people will be dicking around with the new achievements and not helping the team.

Well, you got 3 days to email Gabe or Robin with your achievement alternatives. Get to it. ;)

I usually have faith in Valve keeping things balanced, but they are getting themselves into a whole new ballgame when achievements that offer tangible rewards are involved.

Yea, if I cared enough about achievements with rewards, I'd be emailing, but meh. While it's great for some people, I'd much rather get good using the original items, and dominate people who are using the new stuff...and make them feel like they wasted their time, because the uber items don't help.

Agreed... I saw an achievement list a long time ago that was doable, fun, and still kept the game true to its roots, but I guess it was a fake.

This is just going to be ridiculous, because you're right, everyone on pubs will want to be a medic, and instead of playing the game, they are going to be trying for some ridiculous shit to get new weapons.

I mean, healing someone while they get an achievement? Most TF 2 players I know have gotten most of the achievements at this point, which just leaves the medic achievements, which means we'll see medics healing medics constantly.

I don't know... I wish the achievements weren't so bad to the point where they disrupt gameplay, because you know there will always be those few people that are ruining a game because they are "so close to a new weapon".

At first I was happy because hey, people are actually going to play medic, but now I realize people will just play medic for the wrong reasons. On one hand, I'm glad the weapons are hard to get, on the other hand, some of those achievements border on the impossible and are going to disrupt gameplay.
I dunno, that thing didn't look like something I'd give up two people being invulnerable for.
Quite honestly, from my point of view, Soldiers can take enough damage to last shooting their four rockets without dying even if everyone is looking straight at him. It's enough to kill 1/2 to 2/3 of an opposing team in the right situation. Having invulnerability on two people got screwed anyway so it's not as efficient. It would be also great to see an uber + crit-uber on a single character if that's possible or watch two Medics, one with each, walk in and destroy a whole team. I can't wait to see how this all plays out. There's also the balance to worry about.

I like that these achievements are hard as hell and will have you trying to gain them all for months if you want all three weapons. Not everyone is going to play Medic, even if they want these achievements. Any good admin would kick idiots who think a team needs more than 3-4 Medics anyway.

The thing is, there are so many more situations where making a character invincible is better then having them deal crit damage. With the regular uber, you still have the potential to get crits/kill people while being completely unable to die. With the crit thing, both the attacker and the uber's source are vulnerable.

I'll gladly take that risk and I'm sure plenty of Medics would too. This isn't just about doing crit damage here, it's the ability to completely decimate an opposing team. These are all situational though so of course it would be required to have smart players. Rushing in against an encampment of SGs is bad, rushing in and killing them while during their attack (Medics auto-lose their charging ubers) or while they defend (like if they're all standing on the CP trying to stop someone else) is good.

I already am behind other players because I don't play very often, but that's cool. However if every class starts getting unlockable uber weapons, and everyone has them but me, I won't want to play. Also, you know clans will be holding "get your achievement nights" where they will set up everything for each other.

Haven't played in a while, could you stack two medics on one heavy? Either with a different Medgun, one for critic hit and the other for health. That would be one hell of an assault if some heavy had invulnerability and instant critical hit.

Its not a question of if people are willing to take the risk, of course they are. Some people play scout and heavy to just melee people.

Its a matter of it not being smart to use in a tournament.

Well the patch isn't out yet so we'll have to wait and see. I'm thinking that wouldn't work though. Since you can't have two ubers on one character, they'll probably say something like that.
Never liked unlockables, ever. Just provide players access to them from the beginning.
I don't see a problem with it but that's because I play a lot of TF2. Let those that work hard (in TF2) get the goodies they deserve.

It's out now guys.

I just played Payload twice and it was absolutely crazy in a 32 player server. 50-80% of the team at any time were Medics though. I'm glad that wasn't my normal server because a Medic-limit will probably be imposed.

Yeah, there's way too many medics playing right now.

Sorry to derail a bit, but anyone experiencing weird input (mouse and keyboard) lag in TF2 since the new update? It's almost like the keys are sticky where it would keep going even though you aren't pushing any keys.

I updated DX9 and my ATi drivers and still experiencing it.

I'm not sure if it has to do with connection problems, I tried messing with the tick rates also and that didn't help. Comes and goes, but persist consistently. :whistle2:#

I wonder what Valve will say about the unlock all console command. I haven't used it "yet" and have only unlock 5 of the achievements.

this is ridiculous...
yesterday I joined a game and my team was 8/11 medics.
I kinda hate when stuff like this happens because everyone for the next couple of days/weeks is going to play medic and people stop caring about the only thing that really matters: WINNING

I've only had time to play a tiny bit of payload (Mario Kart gets my priority), but there are a shitload of medics out there. The hope is that after it dies down, we'll have a few additional players converted to medic who'd normally be wasting their teammates' time as a pyro or sniper. I like that they're encouraging people to play medic, as it's definitely a major need in 9 out of 10 situations, at least on public servers.
lol this is awesome. Its demoman paradise.
Running towards the demos and sidestepping their attack should fix it. ;)

Hey, Shottie, I think we frequent the same pubs. I remember wondering if the [CAG] tag on the demo who was fragging the bejeezus out of me was referring to this CAG. You really had my number one round. I'll have to keep an eye out for you. Would be good if we could resuscitate the CAG TF2 clan--the new update might help. I'm mammy2shoes, btw, formerly MonkPunk (which I got rid of once I saw another dude with a similar handle).

I still play nearly every day. Even have the tag still, though the only person I've seen in the same game as me was tetsche. Oh and our tag is [CAG-S], not just [CAG].

The new update is lots of fun on a server with good admins. Goldrush is a great concept, lots of chaos and focused gameplay. Lots of medics. I'm OK with that. I just play soldier or demoman and bring the pain.

That sounds like the exact same problem I have on my old computer (just got a new one a week ago). It happens in tons of games, though, sometimes including source games. A couple of things to try:
1. Lower steams priority (ctrl-alt-delete, processes, right click steam.exe and set priority to low)
2. Disable ATI hotkey poller (I think it is in msconfig)

Doing those things helped reduce the frequency of the keyboard/mouse lag but it never went away for me completely. Definitely one of the reasons I bought a new computer.

Oh and it has a Radeon card as well (x850 pro). It also might have had something to do with Logitech mouse and keyboard I have. I don't know and now I don't have to care anymore :)

Heh intresting, I'm running a x850xt right now as well and both my keyboard and mouse are logitech (generic media keyboard and G4 mouse). I'll try the suggestions out, thanks!

I'm still trying to get the achievements the normal way without farming/boosting. It kills me whenever my KPD is low though, so I occasionally switch back to my main classes.

I got 10/39 yesterday simply by playing medic for about an hour. Normal way FTW.

It's stupid that they're making unlockables work this way. They lowered the standards on some achievements, but they should've done it across the board if they insist on making achievements the way you unlock weapons. Some of these remind me of WoW farms/grinds. That's not a favorable comparison, Valve.

People just want to get online and play. They don't want to have to worry about the casuals/raiders bullshit that goes on in WoW.

The best solution IMO is to just open the content to all players. You can keep the crazy achievements around for people to prove how leet they are, but keep all features of the game open to everyone.

You know, this Team Fortress 2 update has got me thinking. It's shown me it's always good to add stuff to games. Simplicity is outdated.

You know what game really needs a facelift, to be modern and cool and hip like COD4? Chess does. We'll start with upgrading the "knight" class. Through a series of achievements, such as capturing a queen which is being protected by a pawn but also putting the king in check, you'll be able to unlock new moves for your knight in future games. At the beginning of the game, you can announce you won't be using the normal knight move, instead using the "calvary charge" move of diagonal three spaces, vertical or horizontal one space! Once we add all the changes to all the classes, it'll be so awesome you won't even recognize it as chess anymore!

This. And give all the bishops laser vision that cuts the other pieces in half. Also, would it hurt for the queen to show a little skin?

Glad I'm not the only one who despises unlocks. The beauty of TF2 was its simplicity; you knew exactly what weapons each class had and what they could do. These unlocks will muddle everything.

And has any game ever had more byzantine achievements?

Brilliant post btw, sideswiper

Am I alone in saying TF2 sucks? I just stopped playing the free weekend. I must say for all the positive I've heard, I only played a pile of negative. Most classes require lots of practice to even use partially effective. Other classes are stupidly simple, like the solider and you can just get plowed in a second. I found the game unbalanced and I just didn't enjoy my time with it. I guess its hardcore player game. The games that people play ten hours a day every day and become godly much like CS.
