New TV season
Lost, Smallville, Law & Order, and Las Vegas.

Is it just me or do both "Invasion" and "Threshold" look like great cancellation candidates.
So far I've only watch the first hour of threshold and though the pilot so far is a little sloppy, I'll wait to pass judgement till i see a couple of series episodes. Same with Invasion, I'll have to wait and see when I watch it tonight after Lost.

My Name is Earl was actually pretty damn funny, I didn't know what to expect. The Office is ok, I've tried since season 1 to get into it, but I just can't seem to, though the last 1/3 of the season premiere was pretty entertaining.

I still have threshold on my DVR to watch. The second episode of supernatural was solid like the first one which makes me think it may stick around if the ratings back it up. I noticed Mc G is one of the producers and it seems I usually like shows he's attached to like the OC and the cancelled before it got going fastlane.

I enjoyed Kitchen confidential as well. It's not the best new comdy but a pretty solid one. The missing finger part was hilarious
forget new shows, im looking forward to monday, when i get to start watching arrested development again!
Preach on. GET ARRESTED EVERYBODY! WHY DOES NOBODY WATCH this!
Preach on. GET ARRESTED EVERYBODY! WHY DOES NOBODY WATCH this!
Because it sucks

Supernatural- I thought this was going to suck but it ended up being quite good IMO. Was very creepy throughout but I can see this as being a show that will struggle for viewers and get canned

love this show.. has to be best this season

if this show gets cancelled EXPECT SCI FI to pick it up

Threshold has a chance to be a great show (another lost)

I watched My Name is Earl last night, pretty good so far. I tried to watch The Office for the first time last night, it sucked...
I watched My Name is Earl last night, pretty good so far.
Watching it now, full of funny moments and the absence of a laugh track from an audience makes it better. I wish more shows would take note of that.

i watched my name is earl too last night and really enjoyed it... i thought i was gonna hate it but its not your run of the mill sitcom.

The Office was fantastic. The first third of the show was a little off but then it hit its stride. "It says bushiest beaver" - how could you not laugh at that? Maybe you have to work in one to appreciate it but I love it. The Office and Arrested Development (which was also really really funny on Monday) are the funniest shows on network TV right now.

They usually only use laugh tracks / canned laughter on shows that are filmed on studio sets (Everybody Loves Raymond, Home Improvement, Cheers, etc.) and either have an actual audience or look like they could have an audience.

Canned laughter can't be pulled on on shows that take place outside and on location. So it's only common sense that My Name Is Earl would lack it.

Then again, some shows rely on canned laughter because people will only "get" a joke if the laugh track rolls after the punch-line. Coincidentally, a lot of comedies that don't have laugh tracks tank because of the previously mentioned. People are sad.

I thought the Office was hilarious last night. Also watched House for the first time...I now have a season pass to that. My most wanted show that hasn't premiered is Veronica Mars. Does anyone else in the world watch it?

The best comedies on TV do not have laugh tracks - The Office, Arrested Development and Scrubs. I haven't seen My Name Is Earl but I'll give it a shot after all of the praise it has been getting...

I've watched House, M.D. and thought it was spectacular. I've been trying to find a good deal on the season one DVDs so I can get caught up.

Lost tonight, beaches.

That's my point. The best comedies get cancelled. "The Office" was canned for a while there. "My Name Is Earl" will be canned. "Scrubs" won't get canned, though -- I've never seen it.

People, synonymous with the term "idiots", rely on a laugh track to know when something is funny or not. So, if there is no laugh track, they say that the show wasn't funny and that they were bored.

A sad world we live in.

Invasion (ABC) received 4 out of 4 stars in USA Today today. Looking forward to it's premiere, as well as the start of the second season of Lost, tonight on ABC.

Scrubs is "on the bubble" - it's already not coming back until January as a mid-season replacement and NBC had to fire the lead blonde-haired actress because it didn't want to pay her high salary. The show is not getting enough viewers. You should definitely try to watch it though if it is on in repeats or whatever - it is inspired comedy. People are sad indeed.

I'm praying that The Office can last at least 2 or 3 more seasons. "IT SAYS BUSHIEST BEAVER" - holy crap was that funny.

So far the new shows I have watched are

Rome ..its ok, but you can feel the buildup, like they do with there other drama shows
Threshhold ..i thought it was solid, decent story and writting, has some kinks, but usually the pilots suck..high end production

prison break...some great episodes, and some slow ones, good potential
war at hom...ehh
bones...i thought it was ok, but it will be canned imo
my name is earl...i expected more..it was ok
out of practice..actually fairly funny, wasn't expecting much
reunion...good show, good idea of a show could use better writters
supernatural...great show, scary,

some shows that have aired that aren't new

house...keeping up the great writting..love it
ncis...it was a borderline show for me to cut...good start
las vegas..interesting new characters, but first show was bland
law and order svu...great opener, supposed to show stablers more violent side this season
king of queens...poor opening to a good show..some funny spots, but very slow and boring
medium..another show i wanted to cut, but fiance likes...excellent opener

I hate lost. It's BY FAR my favorite drama, but I want to tear my hair out after every episode.

For every question they answer, they make three more.

Fantastically annoying because it totally left us hanging AGAIN!!! It makes me mental but yeah it was great.

You're missing out. I hate being left hanging too but this is some serious pop-culture going on. Plus, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow.

It was beyond fantastic. Lost never ceases to amaze me just how awesome the show really is.

The Invasion premiere wasn't bad either. I'm interested to see where they take the series.

Indeed it was a good set-up to a possibly good series, we'll just have to see how it goes after the next couple of episodes.

This reminds me of a futurama quote :)
[Dr. Zoidberg's underwater home has burned down]
Dr. Zoidberg: My home! It burned down! How could this happened?
Hermes Conrad: That's a very good question.
Bender: [picking a lit cigar from the ashes] Oh, there's my cigar.
Hermes Conrad: That just raises further questions!
I love being left hanging. Makes the show better.
I guess I am lucky I had a chance to watch Smallville S4 last week. It made me actually want to tune in and see the first episode of S5. And this is the only show that has every really made me want to do this. But then again, I've only seen S1 of 24 and The Shield (want to get S2 on the cheap so I can finish the seasons that are out now;own S3 of each, don't want to ruin anything in S2) and haven't watched an episode of Alias, (own S1 & 2).

Edit: On topic, I've only seen the premiere of the following shows:

Bones: Thought it was pretty good. But like others said, it definitely needs something to make it stick out, so that it will stick around. Then again, its on Fox, so it could be crap and stay or be great and gone,

Supernatural: I enjoyed the first episode and it left me wanting more. Definitely plan to keep up with this show. And does anyone know if the older brother, can't think of his real name or name in the show, is going to be on S5 of Smallville. I know the end of S4 left me with many questions, but I wasn't sure if he'd be returning due to him being a main character on this show or what.
I love being left hanging. Makes the show better.
I'm not sure how old you are or if you can remember but watching 9 years of the X-Files kind of sucked when it was all said and done. It was great for 5 or 6 years but then all of the unanswered questions really got annoying. I hope Lost either answers questions on a regular basis or only lasts 5 years.
Lost was good tonight, Earl was also good. I hope Everyone hates chris doesn't suck.
The way the hype machine has been rolling on that one if it does like My Name is Earl then Everyone Hates Chris should be decent and be around for a minute.
Anybody watch the two-hour series premiere of Threshold tonight? It was awesome. Looks like Threshold will make for a very interesting and exciting season, if tonight's episode is any indication of the rest of the season.

Oh yeah, don't forget; Lost and Invasion start next week.
Threshold is the best new show on television. It had decent ratings (20th for the week) but those are only going to slide against stiffer competition this week.

I had access to the pilots for this year and got advanced viewings of most of the shows. Threshold was my number one favorite, and that only solidified once I watched the HDTV feed. In addition to the great visuals, the DD 5.1 mix was spectacular. Really heavy mix with a lot of bass and active surround channels. It was definitely up to feature film quality.

And the story? Awesome. I had only seen the first hour as the pilot, so the second half of the episode was new to me. My wife had asked me how they could keep up the premise for an entire series, and then the story threw a curve at the end. Characters and story are great. This is the best show, even better than Lost, dare I say?

Quick synapsis - Invasion and Surface stink, although they did pretty well in the ratings. Supernatural is okay, and the Night Stalker (premiering on ABC in October) is really good.

It's not easy. Thank god for the DVR. Unless it's sports, I NEVER watch a live TV show anymore - it's not an efficient use of my time. 1/2 hour shows are 20 minutes and hour long shows are only 40 minutes. I also watch ALL of my TV during the week between the hours of 10 p.m. (when I usually get home from work) and 12 a.m. (when I usually go to bed) but I hardly ever watch a full 2 hours of TV in a day. On the weekends I can usually catch up with everything because of the kid - we can't go out anymore! There's nothing else to do but watch TV on Friday and Saturday nights!

Yeah, I hear that. My TV/gaming time is pretty much Friday and Saturday nights. I get a little bit of time after the little dude goes to bed during the week but I usually go to bed pretty early. For the most part, I gave up on watching stuff when it's actually on (except for sports, like you). I ditched House MD, Lost, Alias, 24, and the Shield last season in favor of just getting the DVDs when they come out. I tape Prison Break and watch that a couple days later so far this season.

Getting home at 10pm. You must be pulling 12 hour days plus your commute. That sucks, but such is the life of a corporate lawyer in NYC I guess. More power to ya....I couldn't handle that.

That's a different kind of "left hanging". Lost will have completion to it's storyline. I wouldn't be surprised if it's "finale" was a film -- which I hear is what they eventually want to do with Alias (also created by J.J. Abrams, in addition to Lost). Alias is another show that leaves you hanging, answers questions which reveals three or four more questions.

Brilliant writing -- the kinda people are afraid to do anymore for television... and film, really.

The Lost episode was pretty bad. The flashback scene wasn't all that interesting - seeing that cheap wig on Jack was funny though. The revealing of the guy in the hatch wasn't that surprising either.

The thing I'm worried with Lost's second season is that I'm guessing it'll be more plot driven, whereas the first season had all the flashbacks and was more about character development. I watched Lost because of the flashbacks - I didn't really care about what was going on on the island.

Invasion was horrible. None of the characters were likeable.

Loved watching Big Brother and Rockstar INXS, but both had horrible finales. Love Prison Break (even though I missed the first episode), Arrested Development, Survivor, looking forward to Veronica Mars and Amazing Race.

And Family Guy has to be the biggest guilty pleasure - even though the episodes have little plot and is basically a sequence of unrelated/self contained jokes I can't stop watching it.

I agree. None of the characters stood out. It felt like a bad WB show instead. Heck, that old show Roswell was more interesting in the first episode.
