New XBOX Experience - General Discussion

Hmmm, I couldn't get my 0 gamerscore demo to delete last night. It didn't give me the option to press X. Does the demo have to be currently downloaded? I want that thing gone.

I'm resisting dumping money on the premium themes, but it looks like they've reduced the points on the old ones. I got a new set of Heroes gamerpics for 100, and a new Heroes theme for 150. Some other ones seemed to be real low too....unless it's just my imagination.

I'm gonna search the XBOX site to see if they have previews of any of this stuff. I'm digging it all so far. Not mind-blowing, but nice.

Oh, and speaking of UNO and avatars did anyone else click the marketplace link for the Street Fighter II remix? The premium theme for that looks awesome and they have an upcoming Street Fighter UNO deck. Sweeeeeeet.

Can anyone fill me in on the use of this Photo Party thing that was mentioned?

You're in the wrong spot.

Press the Guide Button ----> Go to the Games Blade ------> Go to Achievements -----> Find game with 0 GamerScore -----> Press X to delete

Agreed. By the time you add movies to your online quewe, you might as well just hit WATCH and view it on your PC to begin with. Disappointing.

Over the principle of supporting arguably the most fascist consumer company on earth.

I own a PS3, but have never bought a game.

Everything about Sony is disgusting. How they defeated HD DVD was disgusting, and now consumers get the format that's not as good.

Even down to movie theaters. I usually get discount passes when I go to the movies. Saves me about $3 per ticket. But Sony/Columbia films have told the theaters they are not allowed to take discount passes for their movies. They are the only movie company that has done that.

And now the netflix thing. They are such greedy sore losers they would rather muddy the watters of digital entertainment, just because they are now, as of today, two whole magnitudes behind their competitor in the interface/os department.

So fuck Sony. I saw Quantum of Solace, but it made me feel sick to give them money for it. I will still sometimes have to give them money to be a good little consumer, but when I can help it, I will always choose their competitor over them.

I think the main reason this wasn't out over a month ago (when it was finished) was that they had to go back and do tons of retro artwork for old games. They likely still don't have all of them done.

Themes don't take much testing, nor do they require certification.

So has anyone gotten any of those 30 Community XNA games to download?

Also, anyone else notice that voice chat sounds better in party's than it does in games? That new codec is nice.
 
I'm underwhelmed by the NXE. It's prettier, but it seems like there are more load times along the way when I go to download stuff (demos, trailers, etc.).

I wish Microsoft would have spent more time, money and effort on fixing the current hardware than breeding the Wii and Playstation themes together. Then again, I may be biased (see sig).

Thanks Linkin. I'll try that when I get home. I think I may have looked there at one point and didn't see it. But under my profile achievements I saw it. I hope it was just the late night getting to me.

Right now I'm assuming there's just a bigger load on their servers, so I expect downloading shit to take longer now. Hopefully it's better soon.
 
I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm kinda underwhelmed and freaked out at the same time by some of the features (Auto Start up Disabling should have been there from the start), and the Marketplace is just as cluttered as it ever was (and at the moment is down). It seems like you can change the default where you start from on the Menu, but I can't figure it out, along with a lot of other features on this Dashboard.

It's not very simple, something the Wii Channels, and to an extent, the PS3 XMB both have.

I've also had it crash on me a couple of times when exiting viewing a friend's party.

I do agree but I think right now they are putting R&D into the next console. If anything, a mistake last time was jumping away from the Xbox far too soon. The PS2 still sells a ton and what Microsoft should do is at least redesign it's hardware to really cut cost and slim it down before they announce a next gen hardware. This should include wifi and new HD system that would be cheaper.

I don't understand how you think the Wii menu is simpler than this? If you want to buy a game you have to go through multiple screens to even find it and tons of loading just to get into the store. I havn't used the PS3 XMB but this is pretty slick. Again, this is all new so if there are more tricks and tweaks I am sure we will all know about them soon enough. Just don't understand how this is not better than the old stuff, especially the loading times for menus and pictures.
 
Mine has been smooth as a babies butt. Netflix worked first time, downloaded and updated worked first time.

I am happy watched a couple movies already.

Really? It takes you so long to add movies to your instant queue that it would be more convenient to watch them on your PC? I don't see how adding movies to your queue on the 360 would be any different than adding them on your PC - well except that it would take 10x longer.

fucking whiners. It's a feature they are offering for FREE.

EDIT: Just an FYI, Gears 2 right now is my GOTY despite the faulty matchmaking. So there's a positive.

MS would never have made any money on the Xbox because of their Nvidia deal. And launching a year before the PS3 put the Xbox 360 in a very good position this generation (albeit not helping against the juggernaut Wii).
 
I went back through the thread a bit and couldn't find this, how do I change the section that I start at from when I login. It always starts at "Spotlight" but I want it to start at "My Xbox".

If your system automatically logs you onto Xbox Live then your will see Spotlight first. If it just logs you onto your profile, you will get My Xbox first since you will be disconnected from Xbox Live.

Ahh, but when you login doesn't the screen go black for a few seconds then come back to the spotlight screen.

Also when you exit to the dash from a game it goes to spotlight, I want to change that as well.

When you say "crash," do you mean it locks up your 360 or it actually crashes?

I've found that after clicking on one of my friends, it sometimes hangs when you try to go back to the main list. It will look like it is completely hung, but if you wait for 10-15 seconds, it will eventually go back.

I was just wondering if this is what you are seeing. I think Live getting hammered is causing all kinds of weird things to happen.

Yeah, happened to me several times and its all from the friends page... so the problem is on their side.

It hangs up, I can't do anything, hear anything, 2 minutes pass, I have to turn it off.

OK, I'm getting the same thing but not for 2 minutes. It lasts 10-30 seconds and then goes back to normal.

Or map the 'Select' button to your friends list. That button is fucking useless except on the guitar/rock games. I could see them adding a dedicated 'Friends list' button to the next Xbox controller.
