New XBOX Experience - General Discussion

Well, I got home from work a little while ago and the update was waiting for me. I've been playing around with all of the features and I'm really enjoying NXE so far, even the avatars, which I didn't think I would care about.
I'm thinking about installing the leaked NXE Tuesday night and then signing on to XBL in the wee hours on Wed in hopes of getting a quick update.
I installed the leaked NXE on my backup 360 a couple of weeks back and got picked for the 3rd wave yesterday on my main unit. After getting my main unit running, I put the backup's HD on and it went through the entire process again.

So I don't think it'll save you much time. The leaked NXE seems to be really stripped down.

My little NXE/Old Dash story...

I have a 20GB pro downstairs and an arcade with a 512mb memory card upstairs. I got into the 2nd wave of the NXE preview. After installing NXE I went and bought a 120GB HDD and did the transfer. I then took the 20GB upstairs and moved the profile i had on my mem card to the 20GB HDD and removed the mem card. This was 3? days ago. I was in the bedroom earlier today and turned on the 360 and the profile wouldnt automatically login to XBL. When i tried to manually login the system would freeze up. I did the network test and everything was perfect. And the profile even signed into XBL during the test. After the test was over I couldn't login again. WTF!??! I went to memory settings and found i had a small Avatar System file left from NXE on the 20GB. I deleted it and then I signed into XBL without a hitch. Kinda crazy how much XBL checks for before letting you login.

Thats my story.

Wasted your time?

Good.
It actually isn't going to be funny  there are going to be a lot of pissed off people that can't get the update and I have the feeling XBL is going to go DOWN!!
Remember when the first Halo 3 trailer came out on XBL during E3......o man
i don't remember king broly being retarded before, but something about this update has made him go like this: :whee:
Server stability. They made all this noise about making sure the servers were stable for GTAIV's release, but they can't do the same for this thing.

There's a difference between being prepared for multiplayer gameplay and having possibly millions of people downloading data off a server at the same time..

you also have to remember that by default there are more people that have xbox 360's and log into xbox live than there are xbox owners that bought GTA IV and went online with it

Well, it doesn't seem like they're openly saying the servers will be able to handle it. They're keeping awfully quiet about the whole thing.

All the server crashing is happening on the PC Xbox Live as well. Last night I was getting disconnected every 5 minutes while playing Fallout 3 and did not even realize I was disconnected when I got an Achievement so now I am stuck with one that just shows Acquired with no date which is lame. They should give the option to delete Achievements so you can reacquire them as I would like to have the date when I got that Achievement as to me, it looks like I cheated to get that one.

Wow, some of these Avatars look way better than I thought they would.

Yeah my avatar is popular. The monacle is what sold me on making my guy. I was going to make him look like me but I couldn't pass on a monacle. If only they had a pipe. Then he would truly be a sophisticated british millionare

Major Nelson said that all the issues were identified and fixed. (I saw it on his twitter)

Update: Any LIVE issues you've been having should be all cleared up now. Thanks for your patience.
So let me get this straight, everyone is assuming that the release of more NXE previews and live instability lately must be connected? Without any proof?
It's not that far fetched to come to that conclusion.

Many of us installed NXE and then noticed connectivity issues.

Wow I have a very important question.

If your console is offline, does your avatar still show up?

Does all the other blades have the full graphics when offline?

If you are signed in as your gamertag (regardless of being online), your avatar will show up.

Much of the interface is different when you're online than when you're offline but going into specifics is kind of hard because I only did it once last night when my connection went to hell.

I just tested it for you, yeah your avatar still shows up but you can't access "Friends" so you can't see your friends avatars while offline. Not too surprising.
Man, I really wanna try this.

Anyone playing with the leaked version? I wanna play with an avatar.. that's all!
Unfortunately for you, the leaked version doesn't contain the update needed for that. It requires a 120ish MB update to be downloaded from Live.

Wow, I was playing Gears 2 awhile ago and I FINALLY got into a online match and some stupid kid was like "WHY IS YOUR GAMERPICTURE THE OLD XBOX LOGO BLA BLA BLA" I told him I had the new dashboard and he started calling me a "hacker noob" and he is going to notify his uncle who works for Microsoft.

Sigh.

Ha ha that quote is so full of awesome!

That quote is made of win and awesome :D Way to go. I love hearing stories about stupid kids like that.

This more or less sums up exactly why I never bother using a headset for online gaming.
This more or less sums up exactly why I never bother using a headset for online gaming.
I mainly use my headset to hear if they are talking about me and so I do not hear them yelling through my TV speakers. Many people on Xbox Live do not realize the mute switch is your friend.
Quantam plays some...interesting games
It's the byproduct of having a GameFly queue that reads almost entirely as "Very Low Availability".

And BTW, I have played a ton of horrible games in my time, and Madagascar and Space Chimps are two of the worst games I have ever played. :cold: The animation in Space Chimps is beyond laughable.
It's almost as bad as Too Human.
You would think so until you played it. The first time that you jump on a trampoline and the cloth doesn't move at all, you pause for two seconds, the fire into the air with no change in movement to the monkey or the cloth on the trampoline, .... horrible ... at least in Too Human the body parts actually moved when doing something.

If anyone's done that hard drive offer for Core and Arcade systems through MS recently, does it still give the option to get just the 20GB HD for $20 or do you have to take the HD + 3 months of Live for $30? I really don't need Live Gold (don't do much online gaming outside PC) so I'd rather save the $10 if possible.

If you have the Core, I believe they offer the hard drive only for $20. I just got an arcade with the memory card, and was offered the HD + 3 months Live for $30. Still a good deal, so I went for it.

Thanks for the info. I guess $30 is still a good price for the 20GB and I'll probably use up the 3 months during the summer.

And for another question, can I get the "Serial Number" and "Console ID" required to get the offer without taking my 360 online (don't have the system yet)? I'd rather just wait to download and install the NXE when I get the hard drive.

Also, I hope the system bridges fine with my laptop when I need to go online because I'd rather not get a wireless adapter (router's kind of far from my TV).

20GB isnt enough

I dont keep anything (demos, vids, music, game saves for games i wont play again, etc) on my 360's HDD and I only had room for 1 game install. This is mostly due to me having 3gb of saved data for rockband 2, but still...20gb isnt big enough

Agreed. I wound up giving in and buying a 120gb drive because between my game saves, DLC, a number of arcade games, and two or three Xbox Originals, at any one time I would only have between 300mb and 1gb free on the drive. Granted, if I didn't have the Xbox games it would have been a bit better.

Does anyone know how to delete games on your gamercard that are 0GS? My bro is on the NXE (how I have an avatar) and we were trying to figure out how to clear out our 0GS games. Me especially that certain crappy car XBLA game needs to be deleted...

I know feel great that I exchanged the great deal I got from dell for the 60 gig 360 for the elite.....because lord knows i'm installing every single game I have on my hard drive because one thing i hate is long load times

if i can go take a piss and wash my hands before the load is over, i'm frustrated

quick question though: concerning the actual game being in the hard drive....does that mean MY copy have to be in there or could a friend just bring his over?

even if you install the game on the harddrive you still need to have the actual game in the cd drive, as long as its a legit copy then it will work.. so if your friend has a genuine copy then it will work (backup cds will not work).
HOW TO DELETE GAMES WITH ZERO GAMERSCORE

From the main dash:

Guide Button -> Games Blade -> Select Achievements -> Scroll To Game With Zero Gamerscore -> Press "X" To Delete Game History
Thank you I had searched and could not find it! Thank you!

That "certain" Car XBLA title haha and Vampire Rain need to be deleted I won the latter in a contest... quickly traded it in for $2 haha

It also helps for all those Trial Games which I'm sure a lot of people are looking forward to getting rid of.

So have they completed the new Dashboard yet or is it still sort of beta-ish?

It's been complete since the first wave was released. It was never a beta, simply a Preview to allow some people to get early access. It builds up hype and all that for it when people start talking about the cool new features.
