New XBOX Experience - General Discussion
It's been complete since the first wave was released. It was never a beta, simply a Preview to allow some people to get early access. It builds up hype and all that for it when people start talking about the cool new features.
Um...then what have I been hearing about it being updated over the past 2 weeks?

How did you get access to that grey suit? I only have the option of the white or brown one.

Also not sure if you guys saw, they claim to have new avatar items every two weeks.
Um...then what have I been hearing about it being updated over the past 2 weeks?
I don't know what your definition of beta is. Is it buggy? No. Are more features coming for it all the time? Yes.

Call that beta if you want.

I consider a beta something that's not out to all consumers with all features being of use.

So, in this sense, I consider it a beta since you can't download it and use it with Live.

So then a trial product of a piece of software is a beta? If I were to download, say, a WinRAR trial or something, that would be a beta since I wouldn't have full access to the software since it's just a trial?

A beta is something that is released in an incomplete form that is designed for testing purposes. The NXE Preview that was released is not incomplete. Nor is it being put out solely for testing purposes. It was released early to help build hype and to test the distribution system (not the NXE itself).

They had a bunch more suits up last week. Don't know what happened to them. Some other content has been removed as well.

So will the themes specifically designed for NXE cost more than the typical 150 points?
What about clothes? Any word on pricing? Also, are they going to sell things separate (shirts, pants, shoes, accessories) or full wardrobes?...or..both? O_O

Gears 2 are 250. The Vigilante 8 one is 150, but apparently isn't as "complete" as the 3 Gears 2 ones.

As for the clothes, I haven't seen or heard anything yet.

If you could make your own clothes and then be able to submit it on the Marketplace as "Custom Clothes" (for a price), and if people bought them you'd get a small profit, that would be so badass. So, it'd be like:

make killer sunglasses. Costs 200 Points
submit to marketplace. Costs 300 points
listed in "custom clothes" section, priced at 100Points (set price for any custom clothing)
User A buys killer sunglasses + 10 Points to person who made it
User B buys killer sunglasses +10 Points to person who made it

I believe this little gadget would be pretty sweet. Microsoft would still be making a good profit, and you yourself might even get more points than you spent, and would also spark creativity.

AFAIK, the updates fixed issues with other languages, and added/removed clothing. Nothing drastic.

And for the suit...I don't know...there used to be a lot of suits, they must have took them out with the update.
20GB isnt enough

I dont keep anything (demos, vids, music, game saves for games i wont play again, etc) on my 360's HDD and I only had room for 1 game install. This is mostly due to me having 3gb of saved data for rockband 2, but still...20gb isnt big enough
As long as it can store 1 game install and 1 demo at a time I'm good. I don't really buy DLC or other marketplace stuff (might get 1 or 2 XBLA games like Braid eventually but I can't imagine that taking a ton of space). I'll end up downloading most demos and installing most multiplatform games on my PS3 anyways.

i have my current game im playing installed (fallout) but also want my pick up and play games installed too (cod 4 & rb2). Simply not enough room on the 20gb.

Also, the ps3 doesnt do full installs so it isnt a fair comparison

I meant more to say I'll be picking up most multiplatforms on my PC and PS3 (I like the free online) so the games really won't be piling up for me. I'll probably only be playing one game on 360 at a time so when I'm done playing I can just uninstall it.

I haven't followed the prices too closely on the 60GB HDD though. If they are around $50 or so somewhere I would go for it for the extra convenience.

the 60 gb is $100 and comes with a headset, 3 months of live and an ethernet cable. It would be smart if they replace the ethernet cable with a data migration kit.

$65 on ebay.....

Free shipping, use the live search cashback ($16.xx back), sell 20gb for $30.xx or so

Wasnt the whole point of the market place when it was first annouced, user created stuff being uploaded and sold on there. Not just EA becoming the biggest D-Bag company ever

But I think the whole point is that it's for people who don't already have a hard drive, so they wouldn't need a migration kit. Not that I'm defending MS's strategy, which certainly has holes (like all of us, who just wanted a bigger hard drive and didn't want to be ripped off).

And the ethernet cable is odd, I agree. How many people have their router in the same room they want their Xbox 360? It's lame that the system doesn't have built-in wireless, and an ethernet cable won't fix that. And the external wireless adapter is also really expensive.

Luckily, I've found my own solutions!

Anyway. Just chatting garrulously.

I know this is a dumb question BUT, Did anybody else have problems with Chat last night Privately? I was in Private Chat with a buddy of mine that doesn't have the NXE, And It was so horrible. I could hear every other word and the same word like three times before the next one. Unless it was that Live problem. Im hoping so.

ALSO, Did they ever fix that VGA to DVI problem? Would be nice to use my VGA cable for once.

I'm hearing that there are problems when someone with NXE chats with someone who doesn't have it. That problem will be fixed after the 19th, when everyone downloads NXE.

Voice chat is definitely screwed between NXE and non NXE's...IN game voice works perfectly though.

Does anyone know what happened to the picture party application? It is not in the spotlight and it dissapeared for my friend who had the NXE since the first wave.

Private Chat was screwed for me around 2:00 pm today EST. Although I didn't have any problems signing into live like yesterday. Only couldn't hear my friend on the chat.

Still plenty of people having major problems though by looking at Major's site. That thread is going to reach 1000 comments soon.

so is this worth downloading and running online now even with the online portion not working for the next 3 days? I won't be home to try it out for a while till the end of this week so trying it out now might be a good idea. thoughts?

also the link to download would be nice if anyone has it. if this can't be asked I'll edit this post.

If you play online, I'd say no. It's just the dashboard, so the question is if it's worth not being online for a new interface.

Say for example, you like playing World of Warcraft. Vista is about to come out, and you're all excited for it. You have the option to try Vista out, but you won't be able to play WoW if you do.

Kinda like that. But not really.

Kinda off topic, but is your avatar Obama? Or do you just look like Obama in real life?
And it just keeps getting worse for Nelson. He's made 3 update changes in the past 2 hours.
Haha, yes, I think giving out his personal email address is sweet and all, but will have dire consequences when he gets overloaded with teh SPAMZ.

I use to like Nelsons site, but I don't know now.

But yah, I had no problem at all with live. Hell I played The COD Nazi Zombie mode almost all night with not one disconnect. But when I pop in NHL 09, non stop lag and disconnects. Before the NXE, I had 0 disconnects and barley Any lag at all.

Yeah, ever since I got into the preview program, I haven't been able to talk to my friends through private chat. However, it works perfectly ingame when we play gears of war 2.

I haven't been able to connect for about 3 days now....always fail at the IP address part!

Just to be sure, which is the cheapest Netflix subscription that'll let me stream to my 360? The $8.99 one?

I haven't had Netflix in a long time, but I'm strongly considering signing up again to take advantage of the feature.

Yes, $8.99 which includes 1 DVD out and Unlimited Instant Watch.

The $8.49 one works like a charm. I can confirm the $4.00 one doesn't work at all with the 360 (I accidentally signed-up for that trial), and then had my brother sign up under the $8.49 trial, and that worked perfectly fine with this.

Any Good TV Shows and Movies on there?

They charged our CC 20 bucks Cause of the free trial. So now the card is over drafted and We still have no Damn Netflix.
The netflix thing was crap in my opinion. Their streaming library sucks
Considering their primary business is DVD rentals...10,000+ instant watch options is a fairly good start.

It's great. I already have Netflix and started using PlayOn a few weeks ago, to tide me over until the update. They have a ton of awesome catalog movies and plenty of television shows, too.

My PlayOn trial expired 5 days ago :( Tried clearing my registry and it still won't install so i'm without until Wed.

So how does the Netflix thing work? Could I link it to my 360, and have you add a couple of flicks to the instant queue?

1) Get an account with Netflix if you don't already have one.
2) Download Netflix from the Video Marketplace and run it.
3) Go to www.netflix.com/activate while signed in and throw in the key the 360 generates when you run Netflix on the 360
4) Add anything from watch instantly on the netflix website and then it'll be on your 360 to stream
5) Choose video on your 360 and it'll run the video with the picture quality based off of your download speed.

I haven't tried doing it on someone elses and probably won't. I assume there's some type of recognition system in there, however I've had to put in my activation key like three times already. So /shrug

EDIT: It's possible that you could give the "activation key" to someone else with an account and play movies from their account via that method. However activation keys expire pretty quickly I assume, so don't expect for them to work if you wait more than 10 minutes.

I just noticed I got into the second batch of the "beta". I LOVE the netflix streaming. They had a good amount of TV shows, documentaries, and independent movies. It works great and I can not argue against 30 Rocks streamed in HD. :D
