New XBOX Experience - General Discussion

I really hope we get more suits and glasses. Also, it's really lame that you don't have the option of selecting the color(s) for the clothing and accessories. Just doing that would near infinitely expand our options.

I absolutely love being able too download my games to my hardrive. Just wish I had enough room to fit all my games because with the games I don't have enough space to download, I really notice the loud noise the 360 makes while playing.
I'm not sure what you're saying. You mean it's faster to launch to the menu and then launch the game manually, then to have it boot right into a game? I switched so it boots to the menu as soon as that was available (have ever system with that option set that way).
That's exactly what I'm saying... To me, it seems faster to auto-load the menu and then manually load the game than it does to auto-load the game... which is really strange.
I've had quite a few issues, including games freezing for a few seconds at a time, the blades freezing for a few seconds when looking at messages, and complete lockups of the dashboard when looking at friends lists.
This is what happens to me. Only it is not for a few seconds. In fact it is over a minute. I actually timed it one day and when it hit a minute I just shut the 360 off and turned it back on.
I searched the thread for this, but I couldn't find anything. With the old dashboard, I would automatically be signed into LIVE. With the NXE however, I have to manually select Connect to LIVE. It is not a major problem, but it is a nuisance nonetheless. I did find an option for "Auto Sign-In", but it was already enabled. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
I had this happen with the old Xbox dashboard after I migrated from my 20 gig HD to my 120 gig HD. I could never figure out how to fix the issue and it still happens with the new NXE.

Yeah, really strange!

For me it's not too big of an issue as I usually just play one game at a time so I only need one installed, but yeah, it is SO much easier to enjoy a game without a blender/vacum cleaner/space shuttle running next to your TV.
I'm glad they added that option, although it should've been added long ago.

Its new. This option lets you put a disc in without the game automatically starting.
That's been there for a fairly long time. Not sure when it was added, but I'd guess 2006 or early 2007 (I'm leaning towards mid/late 2006). I switched as soon as it was available.

No there are a couple options in the console settings, Startup and Auto Start. Startup has been there, Auto Start is the new one.
Auto Start - Option to set whether you want the disc to run/or stay idle when the disc tray closes with a game or media disc inside, by default it's set to run
Startup is the one that lets you pick if it goes to the dash, windows media, or straight to disc when you turn on the console.
Yeah, it was always annoying when I started XBox and jumped straight into the game/DVD that was loaded in the tray.
That's something different from what they were talking about. That was fixed a few years ago.

Finally got around to installing a game to the hard drive. What a great feature. I have an older model, so it's nice not to hear the stupid drive whirring all the time.

Yea that is what I was looking for, thanks. Man can't believe I missed that! Sweet:applause:

The only issues I've had so far are the locking up of the friends list after viewing their details, then exiting back to the friends list, getting to the download page of stuff on the marketplace can take longer than it should, and it takes about 20 seconds for most of the options to show up in the game library when exiting from a community game. Other than that, this update's been very good.

I just wanted to update what I said earlier. I disabled 'allow background downloads while the 360 turns off' and the 10 second lag during shutdown went away.
Anyone else have a 5-10 second lag when exiting out of a menu?
In the guide, yeah, but that was around when the old dashboard was around.. sometimes.

Ugh. I just got a disc read error while playing CODWaW off the HDD. How does that happen? I've been getting disc read errors a LOT lately, even before the NXE, so I'm not blaming that.
what ever happened to that Primetime thing they were talking about at E3?
That's coming in 2009, I guess they couldn't get it up at launch.

Ugh is right! What the hell could cause that? I'm kind of still waiting for my red ring... I wonder if it will occur a month after my warranty expires? Not that I mean to imply you're got a ring on the way.

Keep us updated. I'm curious what's going on with your 'box.

I have been getting disc problems every since I upgraded to NXE. When I boot up, it sees whatever disc is in the drive as a DVD. Open and close the drive, and it sees it as a game.

This may be just a coincidence, but since my elite is a year and a half old and I don't use it heavily, it seems strange.

My second XBox did this right before it stopped reading discs altogether. Exactly this.

That's exactly what I was worried about. I'm hoping I can make it to my holiday break, and then I'll probably send out the coffin.

Do you use it to watch DVDs? If you do, stop. That helped me.

My errors are always in game. I'd be playing and the "disc read error" blade would pop up, telling me to clean the disc, and then I'd be pushed back into the dash. I could restart the game fine.

With the NXE, I was playing off the HDD, navigating the barracks menus shortly after starting the game up and the disc read error popped up and shoved me back into NXE, where I could then restart the game and play fine.

Sorry of this has been asked, but what happens if you install NXE using a memory card on an Arcade unit, and you remove the memory card? Does it just go back to blades?

The blades don't exist any more once you have NXE. I'm not sure which part of NXE needs physical storage to function, but my guess is it would still work, but accessing parts of it would tell you to put the card back in.

It's all in flash, same as before. Your profile and I guess a little data for your "avatar" are stored on the memory device.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but if you go to the my features (for your avatar) and keep your cursor over the hair tab for one minute the tab will spin and it will unlock more hair colors.

Don't actualy hit the hair tab. Make sure its the very first tab that says change hairstyles

The netfix is awesome, but the streaming quality sucks during the daytime. Once the sun goes down my vid quality goes from 1 bar to 5. I dunno if the bottleneck is me or the netflix server, but it kinda sucks

Looks like some movies have come off of the no 360 stream list. It wasnt like this before House came on, and after Fringe was over I turned on my 360 and went to netflix and there were more movies. Shows up in my queue online with no conditions either. Sweetness. Real Genius here I come!!
