NHL 09 CAG Team - CAG Game Night - Fridays @ 10 PM EST

Eh you have to read a few posts back. I was just making fun of the XFL because it was so bad. But i said it becuase the one guy came in here saying he was good and nate or whoever said we arent great. So I said we were like division 3 football. Then someone else said we hit a lot and thats where the xfl came in because that was the point of that league. Got it?

The way you said it, it sounded like you meant the team was a failure, which I didn't understand. Even if we lose, it's active. Miscommunication.

So there is no confusion: CAG Team = Awesome Personified  Looking forward to tomorrow night guys! My skater has been a force lately. I will lead you to Lord Cheapy's Cup!

We need more hitting!!!!!!!!!

We need a Hanson brothers and Bash Brothers combo.

Watching a couple of the replays last week, we had a lot of double team hits going on. Those were cool.

Don't we normally average 100 hits a game? lol

Getting excited for tomorrow night. Hopefully I get at least one assist or one goal. Either way it's always a blast.

We still playing CAGHL games tonight? Also did anyone notice if they ended up releasing the roster update they promised for this week?

Yeah they updated the rosters.

Still on as far as I know. Good thing too, I was going to play for about an hour and go out but its supposed to rain all night so I'll just pack it in.

I went to a free skate today and it reminded how much I miss playng hockey. To damn expensive though, and living in Florida made it difficult to play. I was always the poor kid with the pure wood stick and used skates(liked them better because they were broken in). Everyone else had 5 different carbon composite sticks that cost more than my skates. But I was damn good. I was always starting left d....ah the good days

I have stuff to do and can't get on till maybe the last hour or so of games (1 A.M. Eastern). If people stay on later than 2 Eastern, I can keep going.

Don't worry, I'm the same as you. No composite sticks for me at all. I'm all about the wooden sticks. But of course I have new Nike skates cause I needed a EE size. You know, we should meet up some time and do a free skate together. The wife never wants to skate with me for some reason. But we could shoot the shit ya know? I'm in Hudson so I'm not that really far from ya. Which Rink you go to? Clearwater?

1 hour to go till I'm ready to play :D

Yea I guess. I use to play at the Icot center, right next to the Nissan place. Have been there in a while. When I played there it was pretty crappy. If it rained there would be holes on the ice
I actualy went to a free skate in Nevada today....For some reason they didnt give me hockey skates so I got the figure skater skates. Not good. Those things are piss poor as it is. Going fast was not an option and it resulted in what I think was a partially dislocated shoulder and bruised knee

Hey guys, yup...I'm ready to go for tonight. Had a long day, but some good CAG hockey will be a great way to wind it down! I also see that the title of the thread has been updated to reflect our weekly night. That's awesome! One hour till game time!

I forgot it was 10 o clock not 9. I need to find something to do for an hour now :p

That was really fun, even though we lost every game I played in. I ended up getting back on some 2 hours or so after we all got off, and I got an achievement in 1 game of BAP as a defenseman. I also played 3 games as a BAP goalie, losing all 3- two of them in overtime by 3-2 scores.

I want to practice goalie, but I'm getting beaten by the CPU on Pro. I'm not sure how much I'll play since I haven't played my main, center BAP in 2 months.

I'm going to hockey games the next 2 nights, but if anyone wants to play late at night, let me know.

Thanks for taping that play apathy it was sweet.

I dunno if Glock heard me or not when I won the faceoff back to him because I didnt hear him all game. But if he did, that was a perfect setup play.

I like everybody's celebration after the win because we finally got one, lol.

That was the first game Ive won with the CAG team.

Yeah, great night of hockey last night guys! There was an obscene amount of overtime games, but we actually won a few, and it felt like we played better as a team. I really don't understand the CPU goaltending sometimes though. Shouldn't all CPU players be created equal?

I just don't get how we'll have a guy who bites on every deke or lets clear view wristers from 20 feet away get past him. But the other team's CPU goalie is stopping quick one timers and blistering slapshots. I think one of the last games I played in, we lost 3-0, but outshot the other team, outhit them, won more faceoffs, and had more time on the attack. I really don't know how you can control a game any better than that.

We did discover a great defensive tactic to go along with our devastating hits though. One of the guys eloquently dubbed it the "human obstacle course". This is where everybody just dives on the ice and stays there at various locations around the net. It is not advised to employ this strategy unless you're losing by several goals and are generally just pissed off at the other team, haha.

Also, since I'm always trying to improve my skills (since I finally seem to have the faceoff timing down pretty damn good), I wanted to get an opinion on something. When doing one timers or other quick shots in front of the net, do you guys use the left stick to try to pinpoint your shot, or do you only use the right stick and hope your guy is good enough to find a hole?

I used to try to aim it all the time, but I'd find myself missing wide from like 3 feet away. But then sometimes if I use just the right stick, I'll just jam it into the goalie's pads. Of course shot accuracy plays a big role, but I was wondering what the general consensus is on the best way to score. Anyway, good games overall. I still can't believe I was in a game that went 5 overtimes tied 0-0...and didn't even have an ending because the freaking connection died. That was nuts!

I'm not sure if I'll be available for hockey night next week...since it'll be the day after Christmas. At best, I'd probably need to move it to Saturday (12/27). I'll leave it up to you guys though. I'm not the "final say" on anything, so if Friday works better for everybody, I'll just have to miss this week. Feel free to cast your vote.

Yea, nice video Pure Apathy! That was a nice win we had in that game. Makes it easy to forget all the other games last night. Didn't we come back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits in that game too?

FlyersFan, didn't you win a ton of faceoffs that game? It was either that or another game where we were winning well over 75% of them. Seemed like I kept getting the puck off the faceoff. I did hear you in the lobby comment on the pass. I just moved it down the boards to you and you hit the guy in front for an easy game winner. ;)

It seemed like the voice chat was pretty hit or miss for me last night. It would probably be better to party up in the future so we don't get shut out of communicating.

Well we might not have won too many last night, but we defintely out-hit and out-fought the other teams, and I had a blast! :D

I'm the one who said it was the Human Obstacle course. :D I almost pissed my self laughing from that game. For some reason, they couldn't get a single shot in when we laid down like that. Go figure lol.

Plus some of those goals are those cheap glitch goals. God, I can't stand them. I was getting picked on good last night for saying "Oh man, that big dude is on our team." So yes I know who you are now. :p

In due time I'll come to learn all your names. Of curse I know Nate and of course Matt. I'll get to learn em all.

Haha, and THAT'S when we'll break out The Flying V. Team first...win second! :D
Haha, and THAT'S when we'll break out The Flying V. Team first...win second! :D
Ha, Anybody up for a few games later on tonight? Like around 11 ish EST? lol. I wanna see if we can break out the Flying V and video tape it lol.

Depending on what the wife want's to do after going out to Applebees (I go for the two for one drinks :D) Hopefully, I'm thinking 11 EST HOPEFULLY. If not later.
Anyway, good games overall. I still can't believe I was in a game that went 5 overtimes tied 0-0...and didn't even have an ending because the freaking connection died. That was nuts!
That might have been a blessing, I would have been crushed if we would have ended up losing that game. :)
Both teams had plenty of good chances to get a goal the entire game, but no one could seem to find the net.

You did get pretty good at shooting and having the puck roll down the goalie's back only to have him cover it up before it went into the net though ;)
I couldn't believe we couldn't get you a goal in the few games I played with you.

Yeah, that was a crazy game. I lost count of how many overtimes we had gone through. When the connection died, I stayed on hoping we could finish the game. I played center in that game (I didn't get to pick) and was surprised that I was winning some faceoffs. My BAP player has like a 65 rating in FO.

Haha, thanks man. Yeah, I don't know why the CAG team has such bad luck with scoring. We usually get a good number of shots (sometimes even outshooting the other team), but just can't get it past the goalie.

Now that Flyersfan is on the team, we've got another center who has no trouble winning faceoffs. I started to wonder if I should change to a wing and redistribute my guys stats in an effort to score more goals. My skater grade is up to a B now, so I've got a good amount of points to play with.

I know we're mostly playing for fun, but it sure would be nice to win at least half of the games we play. Maybe taking a head count of our active players preferred position (and skater type...ie. sniper, playmaker, grinder, etc.) would give us an idea of what we need as a team. I'll start it off. As of now, here are my guy's stats

I'll have to wait to post my stats until I get on tomorrow. All I can tell you now is this:

#37 - Matt Young - C - Sniper

Anyway, as I told Vulcan and Pure Apathy, I'd like to play tomorrow night after 8 Eastern. I'm not going to the hockey game, so I'll be available, but I probably won't be on till then.

I'm not going to post my stats because I change them a lot, but here's the rest:

#13 - Devin Dinkins - LW - Dangler/Playmaker/Sniper

I've been switching between those three trying to find something that works for me.

Yeah, I was doing good on the faceoffs until the later part of the night.

I asked if you heard me because I didnt notice if you saw how close we came to scoring doing the same exact thing one faceoff earlier, I just didn't angle the pass enough to apathy or cubsfan on the right (I knew one of them would be there again.) I said, "Glock if you can hear me do the same exact thing you just did."

Guess you did notice it too though. And yeah, what the hell is up with the mics with this game? Sometimes I can only hear one person talking when I know they're talking to other people because what they are saying makes no sense without hearing the first part of the convo.

Highlight of my night was that game and the game where someone (forget who) gave me two great passes to score with 30 seconds left and 1.5 seconds left to go to OT. Still lost, but was a good game. And of course all the hitting and diving everywhere ;)

I'll be on tonight more than likely. We should get a set time down so someone wont be sitting in the dressing room all lonely.

8:30 Eastern?

I don't think I'm on the CAG team yet, but I'd like to join in if you guys have room tonight and you're playing around 11EST. I just started getting back into this game, but only the offline stuff so I'd love to try out the online aspect of it. (#4 - C - SteveMcQ)

Question: In playing the single-player Be A Pro mode, stats are automatically given out based on your on-ice success right? I don't need to be going into menus and adjusting my own attributes?

You can def. join, just need a GM to let you in.

You need to go into menus to adjust stats. You're on-ice success gives you more points to play with.

I will be on in 45 minutes, so whoever wants to play should join me then. Of course, if you could always get a game or two in before then if anyone is on. When I sign on, I will invite SteveMcQ if no other GM has.

#19 - Andrew Kennel - RW - Sniper

Don't have the stats handy, but I am free to change to whatever for my player type.

Just add me to your Friends list. I'm usually on at all different hours cause of Insomnia.

Also, I have never quit a game in my life except for last night. If we lost the face off, the game was resetted. This happened literally 50 times. I'm a patient person when it comes to games, but god was I pist off. Cheapest thing I have ever seen in my life.

#2 - Gary Russell - Right Defense - Offensive Defense.

I don't have my stats handy. But I'll post them up when I get em.
Tonight was really fun. We won more games than we lost. Nate, Pure Apathy, AK85, and S3anAmI all played.
Yeah, tonight was really badass. Every game was really competitive, and we definitely held our own out there. I don't know why both of us seemed to struggle with the faceoffs tonight though. I was only winning about 33% of them...which is lower than I've had in awhile. Things did feel a little jittery and laggy sometimes though, so maybe that had something to do with it.

We actually had solid goaltending most of the night too. I don't know if Apathy's "team region" theory is right, but at the least, I think the new uni's gave us a spark. Can't wait to play again. I think we're starting to heat up! :)
We decided to retire the green jerseys after that happened. Don't forget the quality is better on YouTube.
Haha, thanks for posting that Apathy! It's even more retarded watching it back now. It should also be noted that that happened in overtime, after fighting off a 5 on 3 disadvantage. As soon as the team gets back to full strength, where we can finally try to attack, this happens.

This defines my biggest gripe with the game. The AI defensemen usually have no clue where the puck is...which allows about 99% of the glitch goals to happen.

EDIT - Also, nice choice of music! I'm guessing that's in honor of our very own Matt Young AKA Hannah Montana...or should I say Hannah Mattana, haha

Yeah it goes along with Matt's new name and a running joke that I started in Halo 3 with "Hannah Montana" being a code word.
