I'm curious to see if this is a new Ninja Gaiden game, or a watered-down version of the Xbox game (since that's the only Ninja Gaiden game they've done, three times now :D). All that's known is that it's apparently 3D (well, uses polygons anyway). Per the scan on the link below, it looks like the DS will be held book-style, which is... interesting for an action game.

It is by Team Ninja, not some outsourced developer.

Already not to thrilled with the control scheme:
It seems that the entire game is controlled via the stylus, minus blocking. Tap where you want to walk, double tap for jump, and attack with stylus commands.

New scan from NeoGAF:

That's disappointing-- the control scheme and 3d graphics are not too appealing. A new 2D Ninja Gaiden would've been much better. Can't wait to see more on it though.

hmm, i think id rather have a 2d ninja gaiden. and the stylus controls, that also seems a bit iffy. but if team ninja is doing it ill hold old hope that itll be good.

It might be saturating the market with all the Castlevania games out there.. but I would have suggested a...

Ninjatroid?

Metroid Gaiden?

That style of game, but with much more focus on combat. Oh well, maybe it'll still be good.

All I know is that this is the absolute last thing I wanted to see from Itagaki. So when's this going to be finished and when will we get Ninja Gaiden 2... y'know, the game people wanted.

Team Ninja is a laughing stock. I remember reading some interview where the team acknowledged that they had never played the original Ninja Gaiden games. They can take their shitty 3D games and go fuck themselves. I'd rather play any of the 8-bit games any day.

Yeah, 2D is the way to go. Look at the TMNT games, the DS game is fucking awful, while the 2D GBA game is fantastic.

Just because it's on the DS, doesn't mean you damn developers have to make it 3D. We're more than happy with beautiful 2D sprites.

but u kno what I really want?!?!?!

a metroidvania type megaman game!!

it would be so dope, coz when u beat a boss u get their ability which would let u progress the area more.

i.e. like your flame weapon burning vines, or your whip weapon allowing u to swing on stuff

of course rush would be there too!!

Isn't that called Mega Man ZX?

Anyways

I'm looking foward to Ninja Gaiden's Homecoming to a Nintendo system.

I have a 360 too and I would love to see Ninja Gaiden 2 but why bother we're Getting Devil May cry 4!

I'm with RAMSTORIA. If they can pull it off this could be sweet, but seems like a tough thing to do well. I do love holding the DS like a book and if done well using the stylus for everything can be great. (Kirby Canvas Curse, Brain Age)

This doesn't look like it will end well. 3D on DS?! LOL

And Itagaki needs to stop wearing sunglasses and trying to look badass. He's a fucking game developer who makes unrealistic-titty games. That is no way badass.
looks damn hell good. I still prefer my DS games to use 3D graphics... The jaggys make me happy (not being sarcastic).
Aliasing makes you happy?

I suppose it could be good, but i just hope that going 3d with ninja gaiden does NOT have the same effect as Metroid, which in my opinion, should have been kept 2d. I still play Hunters and i like that game to a point, but i think that 2d metroid is better...

anyways, im not sure. Ninja Gaiden has always been a favourite of mine, so, i gotta check it out!

wow, I'll definitely pick up a temporary DS just to play this.

Moving with a stylus is freakin' retarded... why is that a good thing?

Sigh... If it was like the original Ninja Gaiden...(Not the xbox version BTW)

Agreed! the boss camera is horrible & hope it fix on final version. I really wanted normal control like SNES version instead too much stylus.
New gameplay vid? (according to people at neogaf...I haven't been keeping up with this though):

I think I'll have to temporarily own a DS for this one. Looks fun and sounds exactly like the console version.
Looks incredible. I know it is just 3D models over a pre-rendered background but I'm still damn impressed with the graphics. And that last battle had an environment entirely in 3D so it looks like some stages will take that route. I also noticed the boss' health wore down fairly quickly so it looks like they toned down the difficulty a few notches.

and today I did just that.

with spare time to play Puzzle League and Card Fighters.

Finally a hard game on the DS! Scurge Hive was close but that's all because of the final boss battle. Take that out and you have a easy game.

Now if I can only find a decent deal on this. $40 is a lot for DS game, even if it is NG.

New female ninja! The cutscenes look great-- nice shout out to the original trilogy!
Yeah dude I miss the originals' cut scenes and just general atmosphere. NG on the Xbox had great combat but everything else lacked that unique vibe to it. Based on these scans it looks like that 'vibe' is coming back. I especially like the bosses which seem to have quite the bizzare monsterous look to them. If only the boss fight in the bar from NG1 were updated in next-gen 3D.

from what I've seen, this game looks pretty easy. I wonder if they're able to make great AI with the restraints of the DS?

Is very easy to do great AI by making them quicker and boosting the HP and attack damage. So far no Ninja Gaiden game has been easy so I doubt that will be the case for this game.

Yeah, people forget that the most difficult games ever are from the NES era.
