Nintendo 3DS - General Discussion Thread
I mean, other than the short swimming bit. It looks exactly the same so far in regards to gameplay.

Need A LOT more details.
The series doesn't have to change. Nintendo knows this. Release it, and I'll buy it. ;)

But c',mon, it does need to change. It's funny because I spent a whole hell of a lot of time playing the Gmaecube one, a fair amount playing the DS one, then very little time playing the Wii one. I could see the dropoff of not even buying the 3DS one if it doesn't bring something new to the table (besides swimming ;)).

Animal Crossing is awesome, but it does need to change. I was RIDICULOUSLYYYY obsessed with the Gamecube version. Each version after.. DS.. Wii, I wasn't so hooked, because it was all the same. It's a good thing, but a bad thing.

So, when does everything think we'll get a new model 3DS? It's bound to happen. It seems through people I know and various posters across the interwebz, one of the concerns about the 3DS is the battery life is.. only so so. I'd imagine they'll make a new version with a new color or 2 as always, with longer battery life and something else just to call it new, lol

I want one, but am having a hard time dishing out $250 for one :(
I am so pumped up for Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS!
Don't hold your breath, lol. Wondering what will get released first, Wii U or Smash Bro 3DS.

Wii U, no doubt. They haven't even started development on the next SSB. Very soonest we would see it would be 2013. Likely even later.

Yes, Animal Crossing definitely needs some change. Also spent lots of time with the gamecube and wii versions....

I think one thing I would really like to see change is to not have your shovel, fishing pole, watering can, and net take up a spot in your backpack. And maybe some extra room in that backpack TOO! I always had to carry stuff in my letters.

I'd also like to have some of the features return from the gamecube version. I kinda missed having that sign to decorate outside your house. I bet I could think of a lot more stuff to add.... I hope its good.

This, basically the same exact thing as you. They need to have a persistent city or town. Animal Crossing MMO!

Re: Animal Crossing

There's at least a few new mechanics according to the video: swimming, hanging stuff on your wall, NPCs following you around, and a "vertical" shoreline as opposed to only horizontal. Not much to go on right now, no. I still personally maintain that Animal Crossing could be a great candidate for user-generated content to be shared online. Not just patterns and so forth, but everything. People should design furniture, program mini-games for certain things (pool table comes to mind), maybe be given a way to develop small games to play with other users (sort of like how people will make unofficial games within the context of the world's existing ruleset), etc. They should also beef up some of the options in general for the game - no expression restrictions, quicker way to cycle through most-used-items, etc.

Re: Luigi's Mansion 2: Another reminder from me that fuck yes. My only fear is that multiple mansions were mentioned, so I hope this doesn't mean the game is now on a level-by-level structure, since I enjoyed the somewhat claustrophobic exploration the original embodies.

Rolling Western looks interesting, but the environments seem a little sparse. Seems like it has action and defense tower elements. Really looking forward to hearing about it more.

Picture Lives (or whatever its called) looks hilarious. Need more information.

Mario Kart is Mario Kart. Seems like you can customize your vehicle this time around though. Maybe they are trying to work in more strategic layers into the game - these tires go faster, maybe you can get a part to protect you from one red shell per lap, etc.

Kid Icarus looks great, wish it were already here.

And Super Mario looks amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Excellent stuff.

Animal Crossing would be awesome. Loved the GC one (liked the classic games to unlock), didn't get into the DS one because I was burned out on it by then. I could see myself liking the 3DS version because of the 3D and new features.
One does not talk about Paper Mario. One elegantly converses about it.
Mrs. Foltzie loved Super Paper Mario and was absolutely giggling at having Paper Mario be a 3DS game. She claimed it was "Funny and Weird". Seems the old boys charm is still working.

She is also enjoying a Zelda fix with Links Awakening on the Virtual Console. Of course, one simply cannot help but enjoy Links Awakening.

Been busy filling up my Pokedex...now 91 (out of 151+) critters, including all 4 legendaries, have appeared on stage. It's kind of fun for a completist like me but the process of obtaining them in a hurry is quite tedious.

How? Just visit this link:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/632535-pokedex-3d/59386256

It's simple but time-consuming. Do it only if you don't want to collect them slowly...3 a day for 50+ days.

I'm going to do the remaining 60 later tonight.

Tedium is a sin. It is.

EDIT: If you are going to do the above, remember to set it back to today's date when done so to continue getting stuff for other games via SpotPass.

Animal crossing was awesome but I am not ready to do it again especially since the DS game was ruined horribly by hackers. I didn't play the GC one but I did play the DS one a lot.

There are still some awesome games coming to the DS, Super Fossil Fighters, Dragon Quest Joker and Fortune street for the Wii will likely all get my money, and those games would keep me busy for quite a while. Not to mention all the games I have that I still haven't played!

Has anyone been able to find the 3DS points cards at retail? I can't seem to find any where I live, but then again I've only checked Walmart and Target. Any suggestions where to look? Stupid 3DS wont take my Discover card, even though the Wii does. Lame.

I found them at Best Buy.

I bought mine at Gamestop.
The eShop taxes. Lame!
Gayness. I wonder if you can have it set to get taxes from a cheaper state, for those living in expensive places. I live in S.C., so my taxes are lower.

Thanks for the link. I might try getting some of those if I get really bored ;-)

From what I understand, there is no way to transfer games/data form one SD card to another, and from what I can tell, the 3DS doesn't have any internal storage other than the SD card (so you can't move a game from the SD card to internal storage and then back to another SD card). Has anyone seen anything to the contrary?

Also, is it possible to redownload something if you delete it form the SD card?

If not, it does cause me some concern that the 2GB card won't be big enough and that I should swap it for a larger one now (while I still can) so I don't have to carry around 2 cards. I'm also concerned about the SD card getting corrupted, which seems to happen on semi-rare occasions.

I hadn't heard of these announcements at all until you mentioned them. I actually just finished playing Fossil Fighters today and really liked it. While the game stretched a bit too long and had a wonky ending, it was full of stuff to do. The dinosaur battles were pretty fun, and the variety of dinosaurs was really great.

As for Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2, well, the first one kind of fell flat. It just didn't have any oomph to it and was nothing like the great GB/GBC predecessors. Still, I've come to love the DQ franchise more and more with the great DS games, so I'm sure I'll come into DQM:J2 a bit more enamored that with the previous entry.
Just put in a zip from Oregon, no taxes.
For those of us not from Oregon, can you post one of those zip codes?

Make sure you are using an Oregon zip code, and not a New Oregon zip code. New Oregon actually charges double tax to subsidize their existence as the "New" Oregon.

'Flare Red' 3DS coming to Japan

I expect there to be more colors stateside as the holiday season nears.

You know, I'd agree that in the vast majority of cases when someone responds with a lmgtfy link it is the proper response to a question that would take far longer to answer than for the person to just google the answer themselves.

However, when the question only requires 5 keystrokes to answer, the answer is already in your head and takes no time or effort to research, the answer would be of benefit to many people reading this thread and you took far more time and effort to generate the lmgtfy link....well, I think it kind of makes you look like a jerk.

For those that were interested in the answer that don't want to dig through various links for the answer, here are a couple:

What makes you think I walk around with Oregon zip codes memorized? I live in Arizona and I googled Oregon zip codes like you should have done, entered it in my 3DS and forgot the 5 "keystroke" number. So no, the link I made took about the same amount of time if I were to google it a second time and well, I think it kind of makes you look lazy for not doing it your damn self.

That's what I'm waiting for, to be honest. An announcement of either a new color.. or a new color/bundle .. or a new model.

That $250 is staring at me. I can't put my finger on it -- Can someone say if that price is worth it? Not trolling -- really I

Thanks for that. I was looking for that info yesterday but only found stuff for the DSi.

I was also browsing through the 3DS printed user guide and found some more info under Data Management (pg 78) that I still need to read more closely, but at a glance it definitely seems to contradict some of what I said about not being able to copy games to different SD cards.

But I did find the part that had me confused. On page 24 it says "NOTE: Downloaded software that has been saved on several cards cannot be re-saved onto a single card".

So, you can upgrade your card to a larger card if you run out of space, but if you are running out of space you shouldn't just swap to a second card because if you do, you'll never be able to combine the data on the two cards back onto a single card.

Hey, you bastards, stop using my state for your tax evoision!

Or if you are, use my in-laws zip: 97211 ;)
Do they still charge tax even if you use a eShop card? Or is it only if you directly purchase with your CC?
Charged me tax and I was using a prepaid eshop card.
