Nintendo 3DS - General Discussion Thread
You contradicted yourself with trying to give definition of INCENTIVE. Ambassador was an incentive to buy prior to price drop. Meriam-Webster:

Definition of INCENTIVE

: something that incites or has a tendency to incite to determination or action

incentive adjective
Examples of INCENTIVE

 1. The company is offering a special low price as an added incentive for new customers
Nintendo had 2 Incentives: free games for early adopters or wait and get discounted price; unless you're a true CAG and capitalized on both. Depending on when you wanted to "TAKE ACTION" you got games or cheaper price. Nintendo did not owe consumers/gamers anything, so this is not reparations. Companies are in the biz for money. Nintendo could have went about it in the normal business way and said, "Sucks to be you early adopters", but they didn't. They gave people who bought system early something FREE. No matter how you spin it with games don't equal price cut or any other moronic reasoning, the games were FREE because they did not have to be offered at all.
I don't care about whether the games should or shouldn't be offered go all. I'm just saying the whole program was designed so people who already bought the system wouldn't feel totally screwed over. That's not really an incentive.

Concession, compensation, or goodwill building, but definitely not an incentive in terms of an already made sale.

In terms of maintaining a healthy relationship with an existing customer, sure, incentive could apply.

The English language is such a fun thing.

I see that Neudog's menstrual blood is lining the walls of this thread.

Got the 10 GBA games! Fantastic selection by the Big N, though I would have loved to see Mario & Luigi. Though, given the great list I'm not sure what game I'd sub out for it.

EDIT: So if I'm understanding this right, these games don't have savestates?

I played Wario Land 4 for half a minute when I had time this morning. I closed the 3DS for a moment to see if it would sleep - the screen shut off and when I opened it, the game was right back where I had left off.

So it *seems* like it's in a sleep state. Why wouldn't it be (other than the games saying they are not)?

The games continue to play, I checked with fire emblem on the start screen. it kept scrolling through the character bio's even though I shut the 3ds.
I still think this is one of the best incarnations of Mario Kart, behind Mario kart 64 and probably tied with Mario Kart DS.
I'm curious to hear the reasons you consider Super Circuit one of the best incarnations, just to get a different perspective. To me it always seemed like the most pointless installment, being more of a direct sequel to the SNES Super Mario Kart, which I've never been able to get myself to play again after Mario Kart 64 was released because the gameplay of the first is so vastly inferior in comparison.

Same thing happened to me with Yoshi's Island, but a bit more involved. I actually put it in Sleep Mode manually and closed the lid. Opened it up and it started again. Very weird.

I may get Xevious after all.. I wanted to save my surveys to be platinum until 2015, but Nintendo has other plans...

I buy enough games to hit platinum every year, but this is just annoying.

Is Nintendo going to add save states, sleep mode and the ability to access the home menu to the GBA games? The NES games still need the saves states and that'll happen eventually but I'm not sure about the GBA games. I know what I'll be writing about in my Club Nintendo surveys.

There definitely isn't a sleep mode for the GBA games. I closed the system while one of WarioWare's cutscenes was happening and opened it up a minute later to a Game Over screen. Your best bet is to just pause the game first before putting the system to sleep.

Technically it would still be an incentive, for the people who already bought the system they are getting an intensive to stick with the system. Also it will be an insetive for early adapter of the next Nintendo system as they have showed that they are willing to try to minimize any screwing over.

God, I'm lying on my bed, as a 27 year old male, with my feet up in the air with a huge grin on my face playing F-Zero Maximum Velocity, being transported back to my youth.

Lucky dogs. I've never gotten more than two in a single day. I'm hoping that will change in the coming year, what with all the incentives and price drops for new 3DS owners.

I got 4 in St. Augustine on Saturday Night. I was hoping to get a few since it is a family hangout around Christmas time. I haven't taken my 3ds to an NFL game and never thought that would be a street pass hot spot.

I've not gotten any streetpass hits yet, because I don't go out much (basically to work or doctor's office and back) but soon, very soon....

Multiple people I work with are now out buying Nintendo 3DS's after watching me play mine at work on breaks. And you know what sold them on it--it wasn't me demoing Zelda Ocarina of Time.

It was Nintendogs+Cats, in 3D. They could not resist poking and petting 3D virtual puppies. "So I can have a 3D puppy and it will play all my old DS games? And ooooo, it has an analog stick. MUST BUY. FOR PUPPIES!" I swear, that freaking game should just come pre-installed on all 3DS units to move them faster.

We plan on leaving them on while we work so they can communicate via streetpass.

I'm a cart pusher and I get a street pass every day at least one from the demo unit, however sometimes I get one, two or even three on a busy weekend. I have my 3DS with me 80% of the time. I even went to a hookah bar and got a street pass there. I am worried though having my 3DS on a lot will drain out the battery sooner than later. Oh well warranty!!!!

That wireless stuff ate my 3DS battery down within like a day or something, so I shut it off the first time it did that. Gimmicky anyway, but geez!

I've gotten street passes in Target and Gamestop, but no luck in random places. I'm surprised I haven't had any traversing the university where I work, but I think a lot of people don't know or don't care about street pass.

I beat the last Platinum Event in Pilotwings today. Then the game said 'get 3 stars in every Event.' My question: Why? Do I have to do it to see the Credits or something? Do I easier time restrictions or something (because they suck)? What's the point in me continuing the game at this point?

I'd say Pilotwings Resort is good $15 game, but a bad $40 game. It's a good thing I only paid $10 for it, otherwise I'd be really angry about that.

Picked up Pushmo (my first 3DS purchased download). I'm about 70 puzzles in and really enjoying it. I got stuck on a level last night and put the 3DS into its charger. 30 mins later I had figured it out in my head (the answer was so simple) and had to solve it in game right away :)

That's how I felt about RE Mercs. Glad I got it for $20 and would recommend it to others at that price, but I would have been pissed to pay $40.

Guys, guys, guys... Well, and girls. You gotta go to a con to rack up the street passes. I went to one back in October, and got over 50 hits within about 4 hours. I think I would've gotten more had I checked more often, since the limit is 10 at any given time. Any other time, I'm lucky to get one every other week.

Interesting. I should be going to Ohayocon end of January. I'll see what happens there (beside a dead battery) Hopefully it doesn't get stolen.
Nice I just picked up Mario vs Donkey Kong Minis March Again free being a Club Nintendo member and having done a few registers/surveys.
I want to, but I don't want the game that much. I'd rather save my points for upcoming games. I can't think of anything I really would like, other than Shantae!

I've yet to have a legitimate streetpass hit, as I've only gotten hits off of demo units.

There are a few new preview trailer/apps for Kid Icarus, Sakura Samurai, and Rolling Western for those that want to see those games in 3D.

I have to say that the GBA lineup for Ambassadors is great. The quality is high and that these are already portable games makes them a better fit for the 3DS than the NES games.

The 3D in the Sakura Samurai trailer pops right of the screen, especially near the end. Looks like an interesting game.

As for the GBA games, I wonder if there will ever be a sleep mode. DS game emulation on the 3DS has it since they already had it implemented originally. I would think if it is possible to have save states, sleep mode should also be plausible.

Idk, my gut tells me that unless they do end up deciding to sell them, then we aren't going to get any updates.

The 3D in Rolling Western looks really good to me. As does Kid Icarus.

Anyone else with glasses/contacts notice that the 3D works better with contacts? I wonder if it's the astigmatism correction of my glasses.

Has anyone else developed a 3DS hand-cramp? It seems the pressure required for the analog stick is slightly different than other systems I've used, and I've got a rather unpleasant pain in my palm below my thumb. A Google search shows there are others who have had problems and some of those hand-grip things seem to help, although I think that would hurt the portability of the system...
Has anyone else developed a 3DS hand-cramp? .
Yes, but with the d-pad because of Fire Emblem.

the 3ds hurts my hands badly so i do use a big grip on it so that my fingers can rest at a normal distance

you're right that there's essentially no portability using the grip. for me in particular its not an issue because i rarely play on the go, and when i do its not for long enough to need the grip.

aside from the portability i highly recommend using one.

Mario Kart kills my hands, but I hear the circle pad pro is much easier on them. Might get it just for that. Any idea if the circle pad pro works with the new Kid Icarus? Has Nintendo announced that?

Based on the demo I played it probably wont.

Swapnote is now available as a free download on the Shop, along with Mighty Switch Force ($5.99). You can now spam messages to all of your friends.

Japan gave LOZ an update for Ambassadors, but it's not up here yet. It has a snazzy new icon and save states to go along with it.

swamp note is okay, i just made a note for my three 3DS friends. I got the free 3DS games using my points. Xevious is good and I like mario march of the minis

I can't believe I already have a pretty big library for having the system a little under a month:

Zelda
Mario 3D Land
Mario Kart 7
Nintendogs
Steel Driver
Pilot Wings

Zelda Four Swords

FYI, if you use the CPP on a game that isn't made for it, you will lose access to the R button. You can't use the R on the CPP in place of it.

That's kind of terrible. I wonder if they can do a patch for that.

I just got my kid a 3DS. Is it the same size as the DS lite (so it fits in the carrying case) and does it use the same car charger, or do I need to buy all new stuff?

About the same size. It will probably fit in most of the same cases. It uses a different charger than the DS lite, but it uses the same charger as the DSi.
